The next stage of development has arrived for the screen adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's RUM DIARY!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I am a gonzo (heh) freak for Terry Gilliam's FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS. I love that movie so much. It was exciting that RUM DIARY was in some sort of development these last few years, with both Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro attached at various points. Then it kind of disappeared as Depp went from being famous to being incredibly famous as Captain Jack Sparrow. Now it has popped up again. This time a new production company called Dark & Stormy Entertainment, created by the writer and producers of LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN, has started up, with RUM DIARY on their slate. At this point Depp is still attached with Bruce Robinson (WITHNAIL & I) planning to write and direct. No word on Benicio. RUM DIARY was written early in Thompson's life and shares no characters with FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS. But I'm still giddy to see Depp again in a world warped by Thompson's perspective.
