Is this the face of The Joker? Hell nawwww!
Hey folks, Harry here... I leave the house for an hour and a half and this goes up. Sigh. Mori and Quint got a bit too excited to quickly. It's something easy to do, but the gray t-shirt, I'm thinking just would never be a Joker look... ya know? And sure enough - our ever-vigilant talkbackers found the pic on Comics2film - that was used to make this pic. This is 100% BS. AICN got punk'd. Well, Quint and Mori did. Heh
D'oh! Quint here... oh well... we'll do better on the next go 'round... For the record, I knew the pic wasn't a screen grab, but a proof of concept picture being used in the production offices to give an idea of what Joker would look like... and methinks someone might be calling the kettle black, especially since that someone also told me to go ahead and post it... just sayin'.
"Moriarty" here. You guys are both fucking crazy! Christopher Walken IS SO playing Darth Bane, and no one can tell me otherwise! ... what? This isn't about that? I'm sorry... what was the question again?!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a really damn cool image for you.
Forget that fuzzy far-away snuck pic. This is the first glimpse you're getting at how they're handling the Joker in THE DARK KNIGHT. Our source is new, but his/her story checks out and jibes with the whispers that have been coming out of the production.
My guess is that this is one stage of the make-up. We know that Ledger has the green hair from that previous pic and I'd imagine we'll see some form of the white make-up, the clown aspect. But this is what is described as a "proof of concept" still. My understanding is that the image below is what the Joker will look like at the beginning of the film and that he'll change by the end.
Click on the below to get a bigger version.

If this is just the beginning, I'd love to see a full color, official shot. Right now there might be concerns about looking too much like the CROW, but I love the look of the mouth scarring, like he did it himself to give him that permanent clown's grin. I'm really liking the look of Heath Ledger here and I can't wait to see the whole enchilada. Thoughts?

That's fake. His hairline's further back now. That looks like a doctored photo from 10 Things I hate About You or some shit.
-
Good looks on mentioning the Crow, I was just about to say that.
-
Not much to comment on, and perhaps I'm first? Like you said, need full color to be sure. Plus, we're not even sure Ledger's in FULL makeup here. So, it's hardly anything to judge Nolan's Joker upon. -NJM
-
Smart changes always have my approval
-
I still can't see this guy doing a decent joker. Hope he doesn't give anything an enema in this one.
-
Still not crazy about him in this role...still think Brody's the better choice...the scars at interesting, could have been worse, coulda been flames...

Looks like Joker tried to bite the "whole enchilada"
by Regicidal_Maniac
spliiiit. Ouch. Can't say I'm convinced but I'm sure it looks better on film.
-
Nolan and co get an automatic benefit-of-the-doubt after BB, but even so, I think they're going in exactly the right direction with the Joker's look. The scarring is perfect.
-
10 Things I Hate About You was awesome. Can't imagine how this would be a fake. How many Heath Ledger movies feature him with dark eyeshadow? Doesn't look like a photoshop job.
-
Who's with me?
-
30 Seconds To Batman
-
Even without the final stage make-up.
-
Compare this photo with the one that's confirmed to be true. Look at the hairlines. Look at the coloring. Do you honestly think people can't photoshop "dark eye shadow"? But then again, I'll defer to you since I'm sure you're a photoshop expert. And 10 Things I Hate About You? Is shit.
-
Good for you. Congrats. <br><br> And yeah, it does look a whole hell of a lot like the Crow, but we'll see...
-
I of course have a galaxy of trust in Nolan, he's certainly earned that from me and then some, but I just have never liked Heath Ledger, he's always rubbed me the wrong way as an actor (not unlike how I generally feel about Josh Hartnett), and I just can't imagine what ever would change that, hell, even if he was in the hands of my favorite director, Fincher. But it's not like I won't see this strictly on that basis. I'll just be going in very cautiously (but am quite happy at the inclusion of Maggie G., and the concentration on just one villain - minus the setting up of Harvey Dent of course, but still).<br> <br> And that's funny about the Crow reference. Yea I suppose pretty much everyone will automatically go there, because as I was scrolling down and had only yet seen just the top half of hte imagine that was what IMMEDIATELY came to mind, then I cracked a smile when I saw Quint make mention himself.
-
...and the verdict is that this is a picture of a man's face. The Computrex 3000 says that the photographer should be fired. Remember: you can't argue with Science.
-
Would be recognized as Joker even without any make-up.
-
Even with makeup taken into consideration, the facial structure just doesn't seem the same.
-
It looks good, but it looks Photoshopped. I expect Nolan's gonna give us something very far removed from Burton's version of the Clown Prince.
-
We just keep getting the same origin stories and retreads over and over again. Batman Begins was really pretty average and I am a HUGE Batman fan. (I hated The Prestige and don't think Nolan is as clever as he thinks he is.) I love AICN a lot more than I like this news. John Carter Warlord of Mars would be cool news because they haven't done it A MILLION TIMES!!!!
-
This looks so fake. Hairline is all wrong.
-
I like it. He seems happy!
-
something to do with that scar...perhaps in Nolan's story...there's no magical vat of acid he falls into...but rather, his alter ego could be very vain and a bit of a narcissist...always pausing to admire his look in mirrors....and in one of his early scrapes with Batman...The Bat somehow causes these "Black Dahlia" scars (bat-a-rang slices?)....and THAT makes him turn loopy....and finalizes his turn to the Joker. OR....they could just be going after the look Joker had in Batman #663, as drawn by John van Fleet, shown here: http://tinyurl.com/2znq8v

Check this sketch that Lee Barmejo did of Joker http://tinyurl.com/2q389s

Wait, this IS the bad guy? That's messed up.
-
http://tinyurl.com/2vbgd3 Too bad, I kind of liked it.

Nice job frazzle dazzle....
-
Friend of mine caught it. Oh, and what's up with the lips on Optimus?
-
then I like the way they've slit his face to give him a big smile. It its real.
-
Like the direction... he definitely looks crazy, gothy and totally capable of fucking shit up. No offence Chief Brody... i'm glad you didn't write the script.
-
Abort. Retreat.
-
Awesome, guys! Thanks for wasting my time!!!!
-
Just looking at this thing I knew I had seen the pic somewhere else. I really can't believe that AICN feels the need to jump the gun on this so badly and start calling to the hills that this is an "exclusive" scoop. I'd rather have slight delays with reliable news than fast "oops, we fell for a fan-manip" crap in the future, thanks guys. I pick sites to visit based on reliability, and I think I'm not alone in that respect.
-
I think his stitches or scars should open up and go all "Ichi the Killer" personally. Kakahari style.
-
When I said It its real I meant If its real.
-
Wow.
-
Pathetic.
-
LOL. You might wanna rethink that whole checking out process.
-
Shouldn't be that hard, even with my limited photoshopping skills.
-
...studio photo release. Anything else is simply jumping the gun. Ledger is bizarrely inspired casting. If he and Nolan pull off what I think they're shooting for, we'll have a truly frightening and disturbing Joker in store. And it's about time.
-
I think I'll draw a pic of the Joker with Crayolas and send it in, see if they bite.
-
Sorry, I got nothing.
-
seriously... come on.
-
pip1345 went right to work and called this what it is, a lousy fake. None of that annoying "first" bullshit. He wrote an actual comment!

The situation is still salvageable at this point!

Quint said it is a "Proof of concept" referring to photos manipulated and whipped up by a films art department. Usually stills or candid photos. So, it could feasibly be from the art department of "Dark Knight" as one of many concepts worked up for the Joker's final look in the film. Still, it could just as easily be a fake.
-
Because any facial scarring, permanent smile, etc is stupid. The Joker should look slighy deformed, but nothing too extreme except for his bleached skin, red lips, and green hair. He can have dark circle around his eyes, big teeth, etc, but any makeup that alters his mouth in any inhuman way would suck. Look at the comics - he has a big, creepy smile, but his face is not permanently shaped into a smile. That's what I hated most about Burton's Joker - the permasmile looked idiotic, and a scarred smile will look just as stupid.
-
It's amazing how quick you guys are to shit on Quint for this. No kidding it's fake, but damn people... PROOF OF CONCEPT. Read between the lines kiddies.
-
...if that's real or not and frankly I don't care to speculate, but if it is, that REALLY looks like The Crow. I mean, they might as well stick a black bird on his shoulder. I was in Barnes and Nobles this weekend buying the new Lorenzo Carcaterra and I stumbled upon the original Crow graphic novel, which is significant because The Crow is one of my favorite movies of all-time and yet, I'd never read O'Barr's original work. I read it for about an hour today and was surprised at the structure (Top Dollar dies at the beginning??), but the point is that The Crow is sacred territory. Not the sequels mind you, but the original and the character's look. I love Ledger's casting and it'll be cool to see a 21st century Joker, but I can't give that design a pass. If it ends up looking like the torn mouth in Pan's Labyrinth, then that's fine, but I know they're trying to make the Joker's costume look like he assembled it together from scratch, and if he does steal the face-paint bit from the Crow and even remotely resembles Eric Draven, I will have a heart attack and my hopes for this film will drop like Imus' approval rating at Rutgers. Please Mr. Nolan, steer clear of anything invoking the memory of Brandon Lee. Just don't go there and you and I won't have a problem. The green hair should help, but man does that picture look just like the late great. And I'm telling you right now, if Lee didn't die, he would be getting paid $20 million to BE the new Batman. He was going to be an even bigger star than his father. A true shame we were robbed of a great actor on the cusp of his breakout, and this picture only serves to dredge up those painful memories. If it's fake, I'm sure we'll take it down as soon as we're sure, but guys, don't go getting all pissy. It's hard figuring out what information is real and what's fake when you're working independently of the studios. Frauds are bound to happen in this business of internet journalism. As technology improves and you guys get more familiar with it, it becomes easier to generate stuff like this which makes the editors' jobs that much harder. Give it some time and I'm sure someone will get to the bottom of this.
-
This picture has been used in Joker manips for a while now. How could you guys at AICN fall for such a lame and horrible looking fan made picture? No wonder people always talk trash about AICN being a bogus movie news site.
-
And that means no perma-smile, scarred or otherwise. The Joker is the coolest character in comics - DON'T FUCK WITH HIM. Just read The Killing Joke and make that guy. Done.
-
Being spell-checked as we speak.

The character doesn't need to go there. He is a nutjob but even the Joker is vain. He is more of a psychopathic dandy.

Does no one read the posts before they spout off?
by earl of sandwich
Why is it that whenever there's an obvious fake photo posted (all too often around here lately), there's still shithats posting that they think it looks cool or commenting on how awesome the offical design is for days. Don't you knobs read the friggin posts? This thing being a fake was called out on the first fucking post, and only 2 out of 3 posts following that repeat that affirmation. People even post links to the source photo! So someone please tell me how 65 post down someone says "I hope it real, cause lawd all mighty, it looks rad!" Tell me please...
-
can't...urgh...go on...oh wait, yes I can.
-
sorry somebody need it to say it ...lol i like it but yes he looks like the cro
-
but that was pretty weak of Harry, leaving Quint and Mori twisting in the wind. Way to back them up, skipper. Quint, even if Harry doesn't have your back, I'll happily admit that the mob jumped on you a bit hastily...but it was fun! Now go finish a fucking contest!
-
WITH THE SPIDER_BITE OF GLORY AND YOU WILL SPIN SURFBOARDS OF MAJESTY!
-
when he got sliced open...wicked.
-
That's the correct attitude to have. I don't know why people are dumping on Mori and Quint. Chill out people, these things happen. I think some good has come out of this after all, in that I think this is a relatively new picture and we just identified it as a fake. That's good news all around. There's a secondary benefit from this in that we just heard from plenty of talkbackers who thought this was real and they voiced their opinions on the concept of a "Joker with scars" VERY interesting reactions. I don't care for the idea myself, I think Heath has a pretty good smile to pull off the whole joker look naturaly without scarring or added makeup.
-
That was very good! Shades of DHAMAKA2007 indeed. I was supposed to go to bed an hour ago so I could get to the gym before work tomorrow, but here I am goofing around on AICN. But I have no regrets, because if I'd gone to bed, I never would have received the SPIDER_BITE OF GLORY! Konichi wa, superninja.

atleast he is not a cloud or have gay stupid flames !!!

notice! Take care. :)

Whatever. Nighty nite all, especially supes.

Between posting reviews of screenings that never actually happened and "disappearing" talkbackers for outscooping them with Joker pictures... <br><br> Do you guys need a hug or what? <br><br> Well, at least you're doing better than the guys over at Latino Review. I think they're STILL reporting that J.J. Abrams is off Star Trek.
-
you guys are confusing me. you won't post a blurry far away set pic, but you'll post this??? once again you're so concerned with getting scooped that you get us excited for nothing. let me know when you get something official. this is something i expect from a newbie movie site. NOT you guys...meh
-
How do you say "Too big for his britches"? In this case, literally true. If Harry were some kind of perfect human being, I would have accepted what he wrote up top without question. But Harry, you're worse than both Quint and Moriarty COMBINED in the jumping the gun department. Calm down.

had Joker cut his face.

Would kinda be nice if at some point we saw The Joker through Scarecrow vision with teeth like The Mouth from Return of the King. God I love those teeth! Peace.

Here it is everyone-- http://tinyurl.com/ 2yb6pv I think the bold choice of 18th century costume totally shows what a genius Nolan is and what a fascinating new direction he's taking the character in. I hear he'll also be wearing cowboy clothing in part of the movie, and at one point be dressed as one of the Brothers Grimm.
-
I love Nolan's work outside of Batman (well, Insomnia was just okay, but Memento and The Prestige are amazing), but I'm not sure he's the right guy for Batman. The man is too high on his 'everything must be grounded in reality' schtick, and I think that hurts the Batman character a lot. I mean, the character's history is firmly rooted in the noir style (which is captured wonderfully in Mask of the Phantasm). Nolan had himself a pretty awesome cast (Bale may be the best young actor working today), but the film was made dull by the lack of visual imagination and the often terrible writing (thanks David Goyer!). So, to make a long story short (too late), removing the Joker's theatricality removes the essence of the character. He isn't some scarred asshole with raggedy clothes; he's the clown-prince of crime. He's a purple suit wearing, big grin shining, constantly laughing like a crazy sumbitch motherfucker. And giving the Joker a scar for his smile a la the Black Dahlia is one of the most ridiculous attempts at trying to make a character appear like a psycho I've ever heard of. Here's hoping that shit doesn't happen.
-

Nice new title...
-
hate to see Batman movie into true crime territory. Ain't necessary.
-
He's vain, funny, has an insane mean streak and is obsessed with one-upping Batman to the point he will not let other criminals off him.
-
No, he doesn't. He just smiles all the time. Numbnuts. He's been shown many times without a smile - in the Killing Joke, for example, at the end he's got a sad, smileless face. You really shouldn't challenge me on Joker trivia - I'll win.
-
And I was the first to say that it didn't look like Ledger.

If it was me, I want neither, but if prizes are being handed out I'll gladly take Mori's pink bunny slippers.
-
that in an age where photoshop is easy, that the people working on the film would not take existing images and photoshop a proposed makeup onto an actor's photo just to see what it looks like? Who's to say this is not a "proof of concept" image, just a really quick, cheap one? Maybe I am misunderstanding the term, but it seems that the idea is just to get an idea of what something is gonna look like.
-
Or does he look like Edward Scissorhands?
-
"Nolan had himself a pretty awesome cast (Bale may be the best young actor working today), but the film was made dull by the lack of visual imagination"Sure, yeah, yur rigth: that jumping Batmovile was so fucking lame...Batman Beggins works because of character development, even if the script has some holes, not for pseudo art deco massive settings, neon ligths or nipples in the suit. In the end Batman is a human being: not Neo, not Superman, not the fucking Human Torch and not Wolverine; you relay on character, not in his "visual" concept. In any case you´ll be happy with "Transformers" for real "visual imagination".
-
I thought Harry's gonna take it down like they did with the Avatar fake poster post.

Because personally I thought the pic sucked. I was underwhelmed. But still, all this joker talk has gotten me really souped for Batman next summer. Oh boy! And by the way. Shouldn't we be getting souped for Spider Man 3? I'm starting to really worry about this movie. Still, I'll be there opening day to check it out myself. Peace.
-
Crispin Glover will play the lead role of a vengeful ice cream vendor in indie horror pic The I Scream Man, reports Variety. The cast includes Tom Sizemore, Judd Nelson and Haylie Duff. Horror filmmaker George A. Romero will cameo in the movie, which is written and directed by J.T. Mollner. Nicholas Terry produces. Shooting begins June 11 in Eugene, Ore.
-
That looks less like the joker and more like some pussy My Chemical Romance fanbitch. And I can't tell if Harry and Quint are just taking friendly potshots at each other, but Harry's really coming off as a dick here. Sounds to me like someone needs to go indulge in some more of their beloved yummy yummies and loosen up a little. Just sayin'.
-
Michael Bay is a hack. There's no argument there, and Transformers will undoubtedly be a terrible film. However, Batman Begins is still a visually boring film. Sure, you can see some cool stuff happen, but there's no style to it. Batman is rooted in the noir tradition (which is what the animated series got right). Yes, Batman is a real person, but so are the people in noir, they just happen to live in a stylized world. Once you strip Batman down to a real-world aesthetic, he just looks like a goof running around in a clunky suit (like he did in Batman Begins, though scenes in which they didn't show Batman moving too much looked okay). And when I say it has no style, I don't mean I want Michael Bay's MTV movie mash-up 'style,' I mean I want noir.
-
stuff is what it's all about. What do you expect them to be, Nostradomus? It's fun to discuss this type of stuff. And for Harry, that was a punk move on his part for dumping on the boys for doing their jobs.

Seriously, doesn't anyone who posts here have any sense of history? When you compare a design to "The Crow" what you're saying is "he looks like a character who was designed to resemble a cross between Alice Cooper and David Bowie, circa 1972. Look, I loved O'Barr's comic, but it was basically "What if The Punisher looked like Alice Cooper?" And if any of you little kids here think The Crow was a movie, a TV series or a wrestler, no, first it was a comic book. And anyone who thinks it was a graphic novel, no, it was a comic book. A comic book aboug a junkie rock star who looks like a cross between Alice Cooper (the mouth and eye make-up) and David Bowie (the spiky mullet and the mis-matched eyes.)
-
And Alice Cooper was a cross between Mick Jagger and Vincent Price and David Bowie was a mix between Marc Bolan and Iggy Pop. But you know what? For all intents and purposes, that manip STILL looks like the bloody Crow.
-
For a future Batman remake. And here we are. Here we are. Afte rwatching 'the prestige', I now know why Batban begins was such a weak looking film (to me)... it's because Nolan was more into that other film. Here's hoping his full concentration is on the dark knight.
-
Chis bale is not a hero character
-
And he's getting on a plane to fly over there and straighten your ass out! Shia LeBouf is Joker. And Robin.
-
at least there was some kind of BS identification for this one as opposed to last week's horseshit indyIV story...
-
This looks like something you would see in a Crow movie. And can you honestly tell me Heath has the intensity to play a darker version of the Joker? I think not.
-
This stupid idea of The Joker ought to pay a visit to Doctor's McNamara and Troy. They'd fix that scarring.
-
What movies would have been earmaked for him. For one, I bet Brandon Lee would have been Neo in the Matrix.
-
If Ledger looks ANYTHING like that weak-as-lamb-pee image AICN thought was real, The Dark Knight will join the ranks of Elektra and Fantastic Four. Just make the character LOOK LIKE THE JOKER! Sheesh, it's not that hard. Even Cesar Romero could do it...
-
the more I look at that pic the more I like it. The only thing that spoils it is the fact he's not really smiling. When he does cut loose (no pun intended) with a grin, you know it's going to be pretty outstanding. Trust in the Nolan.
-
Wow, Brandon Lee as Neo just blew my mind. I wish we could have seen it.
-
The Dark Knight is looking to be great. I think Nolan is going to get really nasty on us with this one. Great!
-
This is getting old fast. WB, just give us an official pic now please. They must be laughing at us. I guess you could say the joke's on us. HA HA A HA HA HA AAHH HA
