John Woo's THE BATTLE OF RED CLIFF regains an actor!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. On the heels of Chow Yun-Fat leaving RED CLIFFS after 3 days of shooting, the word comes in that Tony Leung (HERO, INFERNAL AFFAIRS), who also left the project, was wooed back (yes, I meant that and am damn proud of it if you must know).
No word if he's filling in his old role or the one Chow left open, but at least the project seems to have recovered slightly.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo.

Woo and Chow need to get back together, before both are too old and out of it to have a chance of recapturing the glory of the old heroic-bloodshed movies. Yea, this movie would not be featuring guns, but still, it's like Scorsese and De Niro, Spike Lee and Denzel, Spielberg and underage children... At least, if Woo who's been complaining about not being able to make the movies he wants in the States can't make a great film in China with such vast sums of money, then he really truly is finished. A sad thought.

He will play Chow Yun-Fat's role.
-
He was in Infernal Affairs and hasn't made a good movie in as long as John Woo.
-
I love that he acted as if he still has any clout. Does he think he has his career back now that he will be in 10 minutes (at most) of PIRATES 3? I bet you he'll disappear again only to then start making a bunch of direct to DVD movies with Steven Seagal and van Damme.

(a would-be) cool movie I'm looking forward to. HARD BOILED 2 anyone?
-
But Monkey Peaches beat them to it! From Scren Daily: "Tony Leung Chiu-wai to replace Chow in Red Cliff. Leung left the John Woo project in March due to scheduling conflicts but will now replace Chow Yun-fat in the role of Zhou Yu."

Okay, we need to get more "Woo guys" back into the mix.
by gibsonusa returns
Among the "Woo guys".
On board: Tony Leung.
Departed: Chow Yun Fat.
Still out there: Danny Lee, Jacky Cheung, Simon Yam, Christian Slater, John Travolta, Nick Cage.
Were "Wooed", but not quite Woo guys: Jean Claude Van Damme, Tom Cruise. -
I love Tony Leung. He be a good actor, and most handsome and lovely...
-
That guy throws himself full-hearted into that role! I bust a gut laughing every time I watch him dance around with his gold plate pistols or get all stoned and start mumbling about taking Travolta's face off.Cage is the ultimate cornball actor. I will see any cheesy action movie that features him spazzing out, spitting while he talks, and manically throwing his arms around.

I'm with you again bud. Castor Troy is Nic Cage's finest overacting of all time. But he also does some pretty impressive acting as the other guy inside Castor Troy's body. The scene where he has to try to convince Joan Allen that he's really her husband, not her enemy, is some of his best work in my opinion.
Too bad he then went on to do Con Air, Ghost Rider, etc. I used to think that bastard was some kind of twisted genius, now I think it might've just been an accident. (I still haven't watched his version of Wicker Man though, I hear that's the funniest shit ever.) -

6 minutes is all you need to see of that POS. 6 hilarious minutes. -
I haven't seen Ghost Rider yet. I'm surprised that The Cage playing a flaming skeleton biker could be anything but solid gold. His version of the Wicker Man was pretty funny, but I could've used a less talented supporting cast and weaker direction to rise to Cage's level.I really want him to do a werewolf movie. I think his spasms and sputtering could be put to really good use.
-
I just remembered he was in that Grindhouse trailer about werewolves. That's not the type of werewolf movie I had in mind. I was thinking something more like a TREMORS movie, but with werewolves.

Come on Woo.
One last time.
Bring in Chow and Tony Leung to kick it one more time as a throwback to 80s asskickery. (Yes I know HB came out in 1992.) I know Woo wants to try new things, but as a fan I an concerned his equity has gone down over the years. It's time to give the people what they want to see. It's time to kick ass again. It's time to make Hard Boiled 2.
