Ridley Scott kidnaps CHILD 44 and Fox 2000 pays the ransom!!

Published at:  Apr 17, 2007 3:03:45 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now this project sounds pretty cool.

Fox 2000 nabbed the rights to an up and coming book penned by Tom Rob Smith called CHILD 44, with Ridley Scott attached to produce and direct.

The story is set in Stalinist Russia where a secret police officer is on the run with his estranged wife after having been framed for treason. The interesting part is that while on the lam, the couple stumble across a string of child murders and they begin their own investigation even though that exposes them to discovery.

Sounds like a cool flick to me. More Ridley Scott is good, too!

Sounds very cool, after Gorky Park...

There have'nt been many Russian set thrillers made by Tinseltown. Can't wait to see how Scott shoots his Russian locations, sounds quite dark and gritty in subject, augres well.

Is Fox 2000 like Death Race 2000?

    by laserbrain

With the studio racing to kill as many innocent films as possible? Anyway, this sounds like a very interesting premise.

What the hell is it with buying rights to unpublished

    by jackpumpkinhead

books? The damn thing isn't out yet! Who the hell is "Tom Rob Smith", or are those three guys? I guess you know that it will sell, because that's what propaganda, er, excuse me, "marketing" will ensure. But how do you know it won't be shit? Then again, I guess it doesn't matter as long as you can put "From a bestselling novel" on the poster and announce that it will "star the hot up-and-coming actor", right?

I'd say use Clive Owen, but

    by grammaton cleric binks

after Chidren of Men, and this interpol one he has coming up they will just end up being too similar. Can't go wrong with Liam Neeson, and I don't know what he's got in the can at the moment.

    Kingdom of Heaven: Director's Cut

    by spandau belly

Not only does it make sense, but it's actually really good. The theatrical cut was rushed and did not explain any of the main characters' motivations. This film was much better and smarter than Gladiator, which I also liked.

I wish Ridley Scott would do another sci-fi picture

    by benbraddock

The two he did are undisputed classics! I'd love to see him do another. Incidentally, I liked "Matchstick Men" a lot, but I'd agree he's not the great director he once was. He does great dvd commentaries though.

..shitty general release. Yeps, cut from all the important material with some terrible marketing. And then of course a limited released theatrical director's cut without any advertisements. And then a general dvd release and a on top of that the director's cut dvd release. Looking forward :)

    Last good Ridley Scott flick

    by kaitain

Last GREAT Scott flick would be easier to pinpoint, as he's only made two genuinely great movies (Alien and Blade Runner). Last GOOD one was Thelma and Louise. Anyone who says "Gladiator" needs their head examined, imo. It's not even a good *action* film, let alone a good film.

Few directors can make great dramas, but no one can make a sci-fi movie like Ridley Scott.
