Bruce Campbell’s Going On VACATION With Richard Stanley?!

Published at:  Apr 15, 2007 10:31:49 PM CDT

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I really, really like Richard Stanley, and I think so far, he’s gotten a bum rap. Part of that is because he’s a prickly, hyper-intelligent guy who doesn’t seem to be able to play the studio game very well. Part of that is because of his legendary meltdown involving THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU. But I hope this report from FilmIck is correct, because if so, it means we might have some new Stanley to look forward to, and that he’ll have a really groovy movie star in the lead:

    WHOA!

    by mr. nice gaius

This is like two kinds of crazy. I've only seen "Hardware" but I understand "Dust Devil" is really cool. And the story behind "The Island of Dr. Moreau" debacle is one of the more intense filmmaking tales I've ever read.Hey Mori - any word as to whether he'll be casting Carl McCoy from Fields of the Nephilim in this? ;^)

    Holy...fucking...shit.

    by theta

I'd see this movie just for the plot description. Man, I hope this gets theatrical; anybody who hasn't should run out and get Stanley's "Dust Devil". It's not perfect and has some seams, but it's still a fascinating and well-made film.

    Hardware & Dust Devil...

    by frank black

Are easily two of my favorite films. The Dust Devil DVD (the 3 disc set) is worth picking up if you are a fan! The docs on voodoo are insane!

Straight to DVD, but still I love Bruce

    by allpowerfulwizardofoz

With a budget of $1 million no one can expect this to make a full release. Maybe some small movie houses but this will fair well in the straight to DVD market and there is nothing wrong with that at all!

As far as Hardware, it's about damn time!

Now can someone anyone tell me what the fuck is going on with "From Beyond"? This is a classic Jeffery Combs/HP Lovecraft Gordon film that has till yet to see any US release on DVD. Why?

Great News, Stanley's been out in the wilderness too lo

    by killakane

Richard's the real deal, eccentric, incredibley intelligent and a very talented film maker/anthropologist! It's a shame he got railroaded out of Moreau, he certainly is'nt cut out to play the hollywood system, his style is much more European (in the tradidition of Argento, Fulci, Jorodowsky etc). Hut he won't go without a fight! He was making superior low budget genre films long before the likes of Boyle and co beacame lauded for such work. Just check out the kick ass cinematography of Colin Chivers and the halucinatory visuals of Hardware (which was shot for under a £100k) which belied it's paucity of budget. Dustdevil is still one of the best (Jorodowsky)styled pyscho thrillers out there (and that was hastily assembled while Palace Pictures went under). Pairing him with the mighty chin is a recipe for greatness, here's to a great comeback for the South African Soloman Kane!

Stanley deserves a hit after being screwed over...

    by monkey_king

especially during that DR. MOREAU fiasco. Another fine example of "what could have been" turned into "what a piece of studio shit" due to lack of faith in a new director.

    Hardware is a forgoten classic

    by starfury 2007

HARDWARE was a superb sci-fi / horror film, and I'm astonished that its been unavailable for so long. As to his meltdown on the set of Dr MOREAU; Val Kilmer has a reputation for being a grade A cunt, and by all accounts was responsible for this.
