Moviehole Talks To Thomas Lennon About Sequels To NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM And RENO 911!
Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
And the distance between those two films in terms of actual funny on display pretty much sums up the current career of Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant. Talented guys, no question about it. But in giant mainstream mode, I find it hard to sit through the films that result from their scripts.
Here’s what Clint at Moviehole sent over, along with a link to the full interview:
LENNON ON UPCOMING
Just got off the CB with Thomas Lennon, one of the chaps behind the “Reno! 911” phenomenon, who filled me in a little on what he’s got coming up in the future. It’s looking pretty sunny on his side of the fence.
NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2
As we speak, he’s in talks with FOX to bring the dead president’s and extinct animals of the ‘Museum’ back to life. “I don’t think anyone ever thought [Night at the Museum] was going to make 560 million! It’s in sort-of ‘mega hit’ territory now, which is nice”, he says. “Right now, we’re actually in very early preliminary talks [about the sequel].”
HOW TO STAGE A ROBOT UPRISING
Lennon’s also got another film in the works, “How to Stage a Robot Uprising” which Mike Myers is attached to star in. “It’s slowly heading towards going”, says Lennon. “It’s a slow business the movie business – years go by and all you seem to be doing is tweaking one paragraph. Nations crumble [by the time its done].”
RENO 911 : DOWUNDER
Lennon says he’s not going to forget his roots though – and is already planning a “Reno 911!” movie sequel. One idea is to set it in Australia. “Reno 911 : Down under”, he says. “We found we really like it when we’re battling animals and I believe there’s a certain kind of wildlife that Australia has… Kangaroos that will kick you in the face real bad, and so on. We wanna do a scene that involves a Koala bear humping someone’s face! So if we can figure out a way to make a whole film around that, there’s a good chance that could happen”. If it does happen, Lennon says he’s keen to get Paul Reubens and Paul Rudd, who appear in “Reno 911 : Miami” to do return appearances, and wants his “Night at the Museum” cohort Ben Stiller to take part. He’s also keen to have another action star, Steven Seagal make a cameo. “Hopefully someone will get humped in the face by a Koala bear… and Steven Seagal will blow up…Or, Seagal’s doing a lecture on safety with Koala bears and then gets face-raped!”

J'ai un ami a Miami.

Stephen Seagal getting face-raped by a koala. I just wonder how they'll pitch it to him? "Stephen, do you want to be in a hit movie again?"
-
...I can't be the only one who still cares.
-
That was a great group movie-watching experience, especially when everyone was a fan of the show. Nearly peed myself laughing when Dangle through his plastic booze bottle against the wall..."I really thought that would break," followed by "Your watch is caught on one of my pubes...OW OW!"

DO NOT MAKE ANOTHER IGNORANT MOVIE BASED IN AUSTRALIA!!!
For fucks sake, Americans already think we ride Kangaroos and wrestle crocodiles. We don't need another ignorant movie.
Personally I like Reno 911. But this just screams "unfunny shit".
But what do you expect from an American who wants to set a movie in a country because he wasn't a Koala (not BEAR) to face rape someone. -
I love the show, and was looking forward to the movie, but it just didn't work for me. There was some very good stuff in it, but it seemed like it took too long to get everything rolling and clicking, and had they just started in the middle, as opposed to taking maybe 30 min t oset up an 80 minute movie, things would have worked a lot better. Like I said though, it did have its moments: "This is the type of place you'd take someone for a good ol' fashioned raping"
-
Every picture could benefit.
Leonidas: Segal, I trust that "koala" hasn't made you useless.
Segal: Hardly, my lord, it's just an eye. The gods saw fit to grace me with a spare. -
the first one was a lot of fun. i can't wait to buy the 2-disc edition on the 24th. {just another week of more entertainment bullshit!} the sequel's gonna be awesome. if they actually do it, it should have ben's charector transfer over to the smithsonian museum where...everything comes to life...again. robin williams and ricky gervais should probably either switch roles or play different charectors. and they should drop the old security guards and the friggin' huns. also do more with the kid and carla gugino's charector from the 1st movie.
-
...set in the UK? It would've been hilarious if they used a lot of British comedians and made it a crossover with the Scottish cop comedy "Feel the Force". And a sequel to "Night at the Museum"...sorry, but Fox needs to get going on "Eldest". And do it right, dammit.
-
...the guys are so successful and sought after. But the crap that eminates from their initial, quite hilarious material, is depressing.
-
But a sequel...? 2Nights At 2Museums? lol :P I don't know. Seems like it would be beating a wax horse. (That sounded oddly perverse.) It would only be worth seeing if they do something with it to make going to the theater more of a draw than putting Night At The Museum 1 in the DVD player. I can't imagine what they could do though. The story seems told & finished.
-
No, no... Americans think Aussies box Kangaroos and taunt Crocodiles, these days. lol Then there's also the stereotype of all Aussies ending every noun with -ie and every name with -o. ("Hey Steve-o, wanna watch some footie?") Of course... that stereotype... is kinda... accurate.... :D
-
didnt quite reach the magic that it should have though.
-
he has no say in that. the best he could say is "eventually"
-
serves him right for breaking Kwai Chang Caine's neck.
-
...with Sheriff Buford T. Justice. He said, and I quote..."I'm gonna barbeque that sum'bitch's ass in molasses"

musuem and i was impressed with it. Great way to pass the time, great effects, I thought ben stiller was very good(suprising) and Three old men, were the real stars especially Mickey Rooney who was just great. When I came on here around christmas, and NIght was no. 1 and rocky wasnt. the sly fans werent happy. I saw rocky balboa and while I think he is iconic and all that, I dont want to see another rocky film. I thought Rocky B, was a very predictable film and it shouldnt have been. It was about him getting back in the ring and no one was going to stop him. even the end was a let down. But he looked great(he must have been on something)1.
