Los Angeles AICN’ers! Best Cine-Space Screening Yet! This Thursday – Moriarty, Doug Jones And PAN’S LABYRINTH!
Okay... since I evidently didn’t explain myself properly in last week’s post, we’ll review to begin.
Cine-Space is located in Hollywood, on the corner of Hollywood and Ivar, and although it bears some superficial resemblances to my beloved Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, it’s a very different vibe. Cine-Space is more of a restaurant/bar in terms of design, with one end of the restaurant dominated by a large movie screen. You don’t buy a ticket to a movie, per se. Instead, you just need to call 323.817.FILM or use the website to make a reservation, and then you just pay for your dinner or drinks. The movie is the bonus, and this week... it’s one heck of a bonus.
At 7:00 on Thursday (that’s this Thursday, April 12), Cine-Space will be kicking off with a Q&A between myself and Doug Jones, the man behind the Silver Surfer, Abe Sapien, and a fistful of characters in the movie we’ll be showing right after the Q&A, PAN’S LABYRINTH.
If you’ve been interested in coming to one of these before but you’ve been waiting for the right film, this is it. This is the week to come out and see what we’re doing with this venue. As always, the screening is co-sponsored by our friends at 97.1 Free FM’s Film Freak Show, The New York Film Academy, and Golden Apple Comics, and presented by the great folks over at Cine-Space who make it possible.
I hope I see you there.

Do I have to pay for food? The website is vague. I just want to have a few cocktails and watch the movie. I'm not cheap...I'll spend money. I'd just rather spend it on some drinks than the dinner.
-
It's really up to you. You can definitely do walk-ins, and if you're just up for some drinks, I think that's totally cool.
If you do come, say hi. -
even though A. MORIARTY DOESN'T RESPOND TO EMAILS!!! EVEN FROM FAMOUS PEOPLE! (no need to name names here though. but I do find it puzzling.) and B. I just finally saw this back in NYC two weeks ago. I am, however, very excited about these screenings. Finally a better use for cinespace than cringe inducing steve aoki nights!
-
I totally reregistered my name for the first time in years to leave the above crucial message.
-
... guilty as charged.
I've got it in my "to be answered" folder though. Swear to god. Maybe you two should just come tomorrow and we can chat then. If not, I'll definitely be in touch soon. -
I am just giving you a hard time...tomorrow night is very possible. I will see what our plans are. Man, my ban on drinking in April sure isn't going well.
-
Nothing like sitting down to a nice dinner and enjoying a dark, upsetting, brutally violent flick.
-
Dan Ackroyd?
Dan Marino?
Dan Radcliffe?
Let the games begin.
Oh yes, there will be blood.
-
SWEATING BULLETS!
No, seriously, it's Danny Bonaduce. He mentioned the drinking. -
Has anyone seen Mike Hunt?
-
Be prepared, Mori, for Doug to (hopefully) get some questions about Buffy/Angel. He was quite the staple on those shows including two of my favorite characters: a Gentlemen, who stole the voices of everyone in town, so they wouldn't scream while they cut hearts out of people & the freaky little troll who tore strips off of Willow's tummy and ate them!
-
Wish I could be there.
-
Free events free up cash for worthwhile ones. You sound like those millionaire brats who get pissed off when people expect them to pay for things. "Don't you know who I am?" Why is it that the people who can most afford to pay the least often?
-
Dynamo Moscow Football Club? Or a reference to Quint - "Do My Fucking Competition?"
-
and now I live in NYC. I was just ribbing you, Speed. I just can't believe you're passing up an opportunity to hang with Drew.
-
Doug Jones work in Pan's Labyrinth was absolutely sensational. Unfortunately I live in Edinburgh in Scotland so I won't be there. But if you live in L.A. what are you hanging round for?!
-
DAMN YOU CINE-SPACE!!
-
What do you mean dinner? Am I going to be spending $30 on a stupid steak when I just want to watch a movie? I'd love to go to this but it sounds so uptown clubbish that I'm a little intimidated.
-
And when they get together, that whole barking thing becomes doubly annoying.
-
Wasn't there a talkbacker back some time ago whose moniker was Dan Maunz Fan Club(sp?)? Same guy?
Anyway, sounds like a cool event with a great movie.
