DiCaprio adds another flick to his to-do list, this time it's with Ridley Scott!!!

Published at:  Apr 09, 2007 1:09:57 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a little bit of news for ya'.

Leonardo DiCaprio is about to join up with yet another project. The plan is to do REVOLUTIONARY ROAD with Sam Mendes and Kate Winslet and then jump on over to Ridley Scott's next flick, BODY OF LIES. The film is based on a David Ignatius novel and has a script by William Monahan, who apparently is writing everything in Hollywood for the next two years.

The Warner Bros. flick is about an ex-journalist (DiCaprio) who is now a CIA Agent that is sent to Amman where he'll work with Jordan's intelligence chief to track down an Al Qaeda leader planning an attack on America.

I remember he bought the rights to Vonnegut's book (my favorite novel) a few years ago and I've been waiting impatiently for the movie ever since.

    Leonardo DiCaprio...

    by remcycle

...really was great in Blood Diamond. I enjoyed watching him, even through his accent. He's growing to be a pretty good lead and I'm sure I'll enjoy him in whatever Ridley has to throw at us.

I thought Blackhawk Down was fantastic, even though some critics didn't like it. I'm glad to see Ridley doing a new 'current affairs' type of movie, especially after Kingdom of Heaven.

Let's all make petty insults about Leonardo DiCaprio...

    by ribbons

...that'll teach 'im to make good movies, the bastard! How dare he?! If only we could retroactively cast "man-god" BRUCE CAMPBELL in his place; he's someone who's actually worthy of being directed by "man-god prototype" Martin Scorsese! And by "worthy," I mean a geek icon who we celebrated and identified with, rather than DiCaprio, who we miasmically mocked and derided and "Othered" as an untalented pretty boy before he started making movies with our favorite directors and winning Academy Awards. NOW how am I supposed to feel better about the fact that women like him better than me?! I know! I'll call him... overrated! [/rant]

    by film_fanatic_in_the_original_black_and_w

Loved his work in The Basketball Diaries, Catch Me If You Can, Blood Diamond and The Departed. I'm still pissed that Children Of Men got ripped off at the oscars though.

Is Gladiator any good. No. It's Awful...

    by no.6

White Squall may not have been great, but it's the last one to look and be constructed as a true Scott film. In G.I. Jane he dumped all of that for these appalling techniques that he's used ever since, and people think it's as good as Alien or Blade Runnner...

Hollywood's soapboxing is tedious, I'm glad I don't have to watch it. But I'm sorry the talent I like is tied up in it rather than making movies I'd like. Oh well, c'est la vie, et la vie est la merde.

    by kinghenryviii

Ridley is the man and I still say that the Extended / Directors cut of Kingdom of Heaven is still the best peice of work he's done in a while - heaps and bounds above Gladiator. And I can't stand bloom. Agreed though, he should do some more sci fi - Alien and Blade Runner is the top.

Mr. Monkey, what are you talking about?

    by dauphin534

escapism in hollywood has gone nowhere and is here to stay. every week there's at least two new ones coming out. right now i can choose grindhouse, ninja turtles, 300, the host, meet the robinsons in 3D, male couples figure skating, the reaping, ice cube in a family movie, the list goes on. this week we've got disturbia, pathfinder, halle berry & bruce willis, and aqua teens coming out. not that you or i want to see all of these movies, but we live in a time when the sheer amount of escapist movies reaching the megaplexes is greater than ever before. so i think you're overreacting when bemoaning the quarterly release of a title with a current event plot or theme.

    Gladiator...

    by mcvamp

No.6, love it or hate it, there are several things about GLADIATOR that make it very watchable. BIG FAT #1 is Joaquin Phoenix as Commodus. Whether you think he acted well or hammed it up, either way it's pure Hedonism-Bot entertainment. He took a one-note role and stretched that one note for everything it had and more. Oliver Reed upgrades any scene he graces. The CGI Rome, wasn't nut-perfect, but at the time, it was as good as your going to get without retraining your mind to imagine it looked that way RIGHT NOW. And most of the fighting was excellent. Now, does that equal a Best Picture in everyone's mind? No, and there are massive weak points of the film. But it's still generally well-remembered and if your big beef is with Russel Crowe, well, he'll foit ya, ya peckah!

    DiCaprio has proven himself.

    by playkins

I can understand the jealousy guys have for him after his ridiculously toe-curling romantic role in Titanic, but come on- "Aviator", "Departed", "Catch Me If You Can", "Blood Diamond". I think he's proven himself WAAAAAYYYYY beyond being just a pretty face.

    by fluffybunnywhiskers

That's pretty much it... guys were pissed when he was Romeo back in the 90s cause their girls had his pictures their walls instead of them (their boyfriends). The fact is, be a better man for your girls and she'll like you more... unless she's a shallow bitch, then dump her anyway. But seriously, he seems to only get shit because he's good looking nowadays when he clearly doesn't want that image. He's churning out some good roles and I'm liking him each time I see a new movie he has.

But when was he ever a bad actor? I was under the impression he's been making good films since he was just a youngin'. I've enjoyed them, anyway. Seems he's been one of the best we have in the states, whatever that may mean, for quite some time.

    by bill brasky

Yeah, right. That's like saying an “ex-Greenpeace member who is now a big oil exec.” C'mon Ridley! Any self respecting journalist would throw their lot in with Al Qaeda and not against them. I mean, isn't the beheading of live human beings really more socially acceptable then the NSA's wiretapping or other 'draconian' Patriot Act provisions?!?!

    do Americans like these movies?

    by spandau belly

I hate this crap. But they keep making movies about how being a spy sucks and that the world is nothing but a big ethical grey zone and how Africa is somehow the fault of Americans and how being a spy's wife is even crappier than being a spy and blah blah blah... Even James Bond is brooding and disillusioned now.The trailer for The Good Sheppard was too boring for me let alone the idea of actually seeing the movie. Please, Hollywood, stop retelling this story!

Bout time Ridders got back to Sci-Fi and Fantasy

    by killakane

Granted it's interesting to see him attempting more politisized/socially relevant fare. But I'd like to see more of that visual perfectionism and directorial flair focussed on another genre defining Sci-fi/fantasy movie. Plenty of great 'optioned' properties have come and gone, here's hoping Ridder's next will be something to geek-out over! ;-)

Dicaprio is a solid good actor

    by lilana

He's just got to that stage where he may not pull out any surprises but he'll keep pumping out dependably watchable performances.

He's always been a good actor, Titanic's crappiness is all down to weaknesses in the script.

Actually IMO Gladiator and Titanic are very similar in feel. Both beautiful to look at, great casts and epic films. Both let down by some shoddy writing and cliches.

BUT I think both actually age well, they'll always be entertaining pieces of cinema and classics for their type of film, that is not critically acclaimed but fantastic popcorn movies.

Outstanding script too! Leo will put together a body of work in the next 15-25 yrs that will put him amongst the greats. But let me just restate the question a previous poster posed: WHERE THE HELL IS THAT BLADERUNNER SPECIAL EDITION?? That will always be Scotts masterwork!
