Eddie Murphy's STARSHIP DAVE gets some company in a pudgy, hairy comedian!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. This project does not look good to me. None of the creative team inspire any confidence... you got the director of NORBIT and the guy who voiced Crow T. Robot writing. The Crow T. Robot guy is kind of interesting, but not when he's writing an Eddie Murphy vehicle for the Norbit director. Judah Friedlander (FEAST) has joined up with the project. Just when I almost let that be a good sign, I remembered that Murphy had the coolest of the cool, The Guz himself... Luis Guzman in PLUTO NASH and that didn't help it from being the giant pile of dog crap it was. The movie's about a race of tiny humanoids that create a vessel that is the perfect full sized human form. Friedlander will be the Scotty of this body, the engineer. Well, it was good seeing that spark of life in Eddie's eye, see him actually come alive again for a film in DREAMGIRLS. Looks like he's hit the wash, rinse and repeat cycle again.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
that is awful
-
Obviously, this body they create will be wearing a fat suit. Otherwise, why the hell would Eddie Murphy be interested?
-
I'm on a role today, baby!
-
It seems like AICN and fanboys everywhere would be all over this concept if Murphy and the Norbit director weren't involved. If the lead was played by someone who gets sick amounts of fanboy lovin' like Zack Braff, Patton Oswalt, or Bruce Campbell everyone here would be shooting loads all over their monitors over it. Too bad for everyone I guess. We'll have to wait and see . . .
-
Now THAT would be comedy.
-
You are indeed right. That is because this concept is personality driven. When that personality is dominated by someone who is embarrassingly overexposed and has lost general interest with most discerning people, then it will most likely fail. By the way, Zach Braff is a half-an-assclown and very possibly will become the "Bright Eyes" of cinema in the next ten years. Courage.
-
Excuse me, I seem to have died - is that okay?
-
except talent.

with his hilarious (ironic? Who cares?) xenophibic observations. Except he didn't all he did was flood this talkback with tediously onanistic posts while successfully ignoring that nagging sensation that his personal and/or professional life was lacking somehow. Probably a bit like Eddie Murphy right now, execpt he isn't trawling the internet trying to get a rise out of people.
-
and now he floods the talkbacks with what he likes to his "creative" humor.
-
and clearly deserves it.
-
i still remember him as the grocery store clerk in meet the parents - his delivery of 'you can get a whole bunch of mums' makes me laugh harder than most of the movie. and he's one of the best parts of 30 rock; did anyone notice at the very beginning of that episode where donaghy hooks liz up with a lesbian? friedlander was directing a skit about a robot battling bears, and telling them all the rules about battling robots as if battling robots was a completely normal thing. i rewound that scene about five times.
and no, i'm not jonah friedlander.
-
Was there a falling out between Eddie and himself and they now refuse to work together?

Seriously, Eddie Murphy and Eddie Murphy should take over the lead roles in the BAD BOYS movies and maybe they can get Eddie Murphy to play the villian and love interest.
-
I think Guzman is a likable enough performer, and I usually find his presence in a project adequate enough, but honestly he doesn't have a lot of depth and basically gives the exact same performance in every single role that he plays, with only *very* slight variations (basically boiling down to "good (funny) Guzman" or "bad (angry) Guzman"), which, for me at least, can grow pretty damn tiresome after a while.
Also, I think, this is part of the reason why his roles often end up being *significantly* trimmed during editing in a lot of the films that he's cast in, or, as in the case with Jeff Goldblum's new show, he ends up being dumped completely and having his role completely recast with another actor.
Honestly, sometimes I wonder if a big part of the reason that fanboys love him so much is because he's fat and geeky looking, but still (somewhat) successful, well known, and working in a field that so many with similar physical traits can only dream of being in. Basically it's the Kevin Smith factor, elevate the rotund geek to god-like status and praise him widely, overlooking the fact that he only has a modicum of actual talent.
Still, whatever floats your individual boat I guess...

This is directed by the too cool for this class kid...
by Alonzo Mosely
from Head of the Class... You know the Fonzie rip-off guy who liked the red head and hung out with the fat guy at the back of the class making humourous quips to howard hesseman's set-ups... The fat kid is now responsible for every annoying pre-teen star that exists... Howard Hesseman is currently trying to get his Dr. Johnny Fever Gonzo porn series off the ground...

I think if you really think about the concept of this movie, it's actually a really big idea. Perhaps its more geared towards the whole family, but that doesn't make it automatically suck. Not every movie has to be a grindhouse or a 300 to be good. I think that's where film fans sometimes come off as cocky and elitist. It's like unless the movie is this badass macho/indie/new wave fest, then its just another Hollywood piece of crap. Additionally, the concept reminds me of a G rated version of the last vignette in Woody Allen's Everything You Wanted To Know About Sex. That was hilarious and definitely could be stretched out into a feature length film.

Why does Eddie Murphy prefer fucking Dead Babies?????
by Lord Thislewick
Because they explode when you fuck em in the arse!
-
It wasn't a highlight and I don't think that I will ever buy the DVD but I saw it on TV and it was entertaining.
-
THEY MADE US SUCK TEH DICK EDDIE!!!!! *ahem* seriously though, theres always Beverly Hills Cop 4... (please be good please be good)

and crash lands into a scary hole. All seems safe except for a minor crack in the pilot's safety helmet. After backing out partway and crashing back in while attempting to exit the giant rocket finally comes out, and everyone escapes none the wiser. But like in all suspense movies we don't see the consequences until much later, about 9 months give or take.
-
you may hear some of those bits on next weeks Mind of Mencia...unless you ARE Ned....
-
MST to writing for Americas Most Funniest Home Videos..? Be afraid, be very afraid.
-
No, that's Trace Beaulieu. He writes for AFHV full time. Bill Corbett is the writer of this movie, although he handed in a script years ago and since then it has gotten rewrites and shuffled between producers. It's completely out of his hands now, unfortunately.
-
Trace Beaulieu Is the origional Crow and Dr. Clayton Forrester and yes.. he moved over to AFV and is the only tallent that show ever had. Bill Corbett was his replacement on the show when he left and the show went down hill...
-
Sorry.. that came out weird. AVF received a boost of talent in the arm when Trace joined them. The cast of MST3K always had loads of talent but was severely crippled when Trace left the show. If there is a God.. Please bring back MST3K with Trace and TV's Frank!!!
-
TorgosPizza, You really ought to check your facts before you start ranting as if you are an expert on the subject. Bill Corbett was brought back on after those rewrites to add back in his touches that may have been lost in the process.
-
Hah. It's funny cause Mencia steals material. Hah! Anyway I hear Eddie Murphy was real pissed when he didn't win the Oscar for Dreamgirls... so maybe making the shittiest movies possible is payback? Either way you have to admit the guy seems like a total douchebag, like a real cock-ass. Doesn't "seem" like a nice guy, but I guess you never know.
-
He wasn't just the voice of Crow on MST3K, he was also a writer on the show and a damn good one. This web site should do their homework before they post. That show had the best comedy writing on TV EVER in my opinion. That doesn't mean this movie will be good, but Bill being involved gives it a shot, I think.
-
looks like someone wasted 3.99(plus applicable taxes) on that 'Mexican Insult Bible'. btw, my last name is Guzman and i'm not Mexican either - it's a Spanish name. as in, from Spain. Judah was great in FEAST, but not great enough for me to watch an episode of 30 Rock.
-
Hey, Bill Corbett ain't bad, but Trace Beaulieu is "The" voice of Crow T. Robot. Corbett is merely a worthy successor.
