One Of BUFFY’s Nerds Of Doom Has Written Sydney Pollack’s Next Movie!!

Danny Strong, who played Nerd of Doom Jonathan Levinson on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (and continues to play former Yale Daily News editor Doyle McMaster on “Gilmore Girls”), wrote the screenplay for the HBO movie “Recount,” to be directed by Sydney Pollack (“Jeremiah Johnson,” “Tootsie,” “The Interpreter”).
“Recount” is about the turmoil precipitated in Florida by the 2000 Bush/Gore presidential race. More than 175,000 Florida voter ballots were rejected, and George Bush won the state – and the national election - by 537 certified votes.
From Monday morning’s Hollywood Reporter:
Strong, whose acting credits include "Gilmore Girls" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," pitched the idea for "Recount" to [producer Paula] Weinstein a year and a half ago. Weinstein and longtime Spring Creek executive Len Amato then took the project to HBO.
To write the script, Strong did detailed research, including conducting numerous interviews with people involved in or affected by the recount, Weinstein said.
It’s not entirely clear whether “Recount” might get a theatrical release before it hits HBO. HBO projects “Elephant” (2003) and “Maria Full of Grace” (2004) were both distributed theatrically by Fine Line before they hit the channel.
Pollack hasn’t directed a TV project since the 1960s – before HBO even existed.

Okay, I really like Strong and think he is a very good actor, and he might very well be an incredible writer so this isn't a slight on him in any way...but WHY??? Why do we need a movie about this? It seems kind of pointless to me.

I think that's awesome. Danny has always been a favorite of mine and to see he's able to do something like this is great. And why not do a film about this? It's a valid point in American history where an idiot was able to screw over an entire country thanks to his brother being in political office already. Why not shed light on it even though it's nearly 8 years too late.

They go all over the top conspiracy with it including involvement in the plot by aliens from another dimension working in league with the scientologists and the illuminati and make up a ton of crazy scenarios that have yet to happen due to the results of the fixed election.
If it is straight up account for the events…..Pass. Already saw enough of that crap on the news to last me my next five lives.
