Dan Conner and Janet Weiss join the cast of SPEED RACER!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some pretty exciting casting news. At least to me. I love both these people. John Goodman and Susan Sarandon have joined Emile Hirsch in the Wachowski Bros' SPEED RACER, playing Hirsch's parents.
I don't know if anybody else feels this way, but the idea of a Wachowski Bros' SPEED RACER movie just feels so bizarre to me. Not in a bad way, really, just that it shouldn't even be a possibility. It'll be a weird production. I like how it's shaping up so far. What about you?

Sorry man, but to me the idea of those guys doing a speedracer movie makes TOTAL SENSE. I know they'll come up with awesome imagery, great action sequence, and I'm really interested in the fact that it's a kid'S flick. I think it'll be genius.

If they can do anything, the Wachowskis can do action, so hopefully this will be fun little action film for the kids and whatnot. As long as they keep their ambition in check and don't try to turn the film into an analogy for every religion, philosophy and myth they've ever heard of, they have every chance of doing well. You know, just tell a straight story. I don't know too much about this Speed Racer, but I am keen to see what the Wachowskis do next.

... But I didn't know Speed's mom was still around? Always assumed Pops was a widower. Now, who's playing Trixie, Spidle, Racer X and Inspector Detector? Is Chim-Chim gonna be an actual chimp, guy-in-suit or CGI? And Uncle Stan.... it was called "The Mammoth Car"!

really bad based on some of the past versions. The car stuff and fighting should be great with this team. Will it take place in the 60's? I hope they work some ninjas and flying dragon subs into the plot and we get more than "Speed steals the Mach 5 and wrecks it, pops is mad, They fix the car and Speed wins race. The end". Please, Please, keep the crazy shit like Giant Apes and Races thru Volcanos. Fingers crossed lol.

Goodman is a very good fit for Pops though. I'd like to have seen Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Speed, but I like Hirsch for him too. Wasn't Vince Vaughn supposed to be playing Racer X? Is that off the table now?
