Anderson Not Off Of CASTLEVANIA?? So Says Another Site!!

Published at:  Mar 29, 2007 1:12:19 AM CDT

Merrick here...

Earlier this week, Dread Central reported that Paul W.S. Anderson was "off" of the CASTLEVANIA feature film & was now focusing his attention on the ever-in-development DEATH RACE remake/reboot/whatever it is. HERE IS THEIR REPORT.

Turns out, this ain't so...according to THIS ARTICLE at IGN.

"Both Death Race and Castlevania are set up at Universal," Anderson explains. "The studio wants to make both films, but obviously there is a scheduling conflict which we are trying to resolve. I am very passionate about Castlevania and whatever happens I will remain actively involved in my role as writer and producer."

Disappointing, but it figures.

    by snakesonabicycle

must be the best pitch men/swindelers/liars/bullshitters in the history of suckered morons everywhere. Maybe they can both develop a tonic that cures hairloss and soft dick and certain forms of terminal cancer. Of course if it cured cancer then all their films would disappear. Get it!? Cause they stink as filmmakers!

    Paul W. S. Anderson....

    by avs28785

is dull. I feel the only thing he did right as a director is Event Horizon. Very interested in Castlevania, but honestly it is another game-to-film adaption and the story of Dracula has been done to death. Its going to suck no matter what. And of course a death race whatever is going to blow choad. As does most every remake.

Castlevania is a game that DOES work as a movie.

    by gibsonusa returns

Unlike Mario Bros. and Double Dragon, Castlevania has a storyline with depth. The movie should not be about Dracula, but the Belmont family's struggle to defeat him and keep him away. Start with Simon Belmont, the most popular one, and move on to different time periods and explore the adventures of the other Belmonts. Could be lots of fun.

for (a)wanting to make Castlevania into a film and (b) having Paul Anderson involved. HOWEVER...at least putting him on another game-movie keeps him occupied from anything else.

anderson gets a real beating at this site...

    by jimmyjoe redsky

(perhaps deservedly so) but i really like "soldier" - a real guilty pleasure - russell and lee were great in it - what ever happened to jason scott lee - is he still living in hawaii teaching karate - to me, "soldier"s only weakness was it felt too small for the the idea - "shane" in space - i cant help but wonder how it mightve turned out if more money was thrown at it during development - sometimes scale can really benefit a simple idea

as for castlevania, i never played the game - and from what ive seen, it doesnt look like a movie material - but then neither did mario bros. - if youre going to make a video game into a movie, why not pick a game that is cinematic to begin with - "splinter cell", "hitman", "far cry", "rainbow six"

    by everstranger

Loom and Monkey Island (Lucasart) should be made into movies...
Why do they keep adapting crapy video games?
I heard Uwe Boll is set to write and direct Pong, the movie. It's gonna be artsy, all in black and green. And when the green bar from the left (the good one) will train to defeat the the one from the right (the bad one!), there's gonna be... a montage !

    by gibsonusa returns

A $30-$35 million Metroid movie sounds like $$$$.
But I still would prefer live action, though to do the game justice it would probably have to be $100 million or more.

    Castlevania

    by polyh3dron

If made by Paul WS Anderson will not have a Belmont as a main character, although Leon Belmont or one of the lesser known ones will have a little bit part. There will not be one whip in the WHOLE film and Dracula won't even be in it by name. The main character will be some made up person played by Milla Jovovich and the movie will take place in the present day with the obligatory video game movie techno-metal soundtrack. The WS's Castlevania film will make Van Helsing look like Gone With The Wind, Casablanca and Citizen fucking Kane rolled into one. Yes, I called him "The WS". God dammit Michael Bay....

    by negative man

...Really, who the f*ck really cares? You're a sad troll if you are EVER excited with an idea based on a video game. Hell, DOOM was wrote by the ID makers and look what crap that was. MORTAL KOMBAT, RESIDENT EVIL and POKEMON were three of the best BOs of any of the video game movies, and they are just passing. And really, I played Metroid, I like Metroid, but a Metroid movie would suck major ass! Mainly because, like any game based movie, they would try to please the fans...like that amazing 1st person scene from Doom. Ugh! Castelvania is just the insperation behind the craptacular Van Helsing! And y'all are asking for a second chance to have gorilla crap shoved down your neck?!!! But hey, maybe they will shove it down while you're upside down this time...*cough*

He may an insipid and uninspired copycat film maker, but as long he continues to work well with relatively limited budgets and gives the investors a decent return, he will work and work and work. No disrespect meant to gamers, but I'll be happy if he makes nothing but PlayStation adaptations for the rest of his career. At least that keeps him away from films that have a chance of working (Soldier, for example, was a horrible waste of potential - not to mention Sir Kurt of Russell).

Such as Alien. Or Predator. Although I hear there is a following of this game... but come on, it'll be a video game movie, so its quality is already defined. They might as well all be shot by Anderson & Boll. In fact, the two should form a partnership. Maybe something like Paul Boll or Anderboll. And then they could invite that Pitof guy...

...with a decendant of the Belmont clan as a chick with shotguns and shit. And she'll have a five man team. All of Anderson's movies have a team. If he made Superman, Superman would have a team. Anyway, Dracula's castle will have laser sensors and a CPU run by artifical intellligence. Insert "Living Dead Girl" on the end credits. The End.
