A Betterer Version Of That Super Cool DAYWATCH Trailer Is Now Online!!
Merrick again...
We recently posted a link to a trailer for the impending American release of DAYWATCH (the sequel to NIGHT WATCH).
Accessing the trailer through that link was funky at best - with very slow load times (if it could be loaded at all).
Apple has now posted the same trailer in vastly more glorious (and infinitely more accessible) QuickTime.
Click the dude beating down the bus to see it!

Night Watch sucked cock!
-
yeah!
-
It's about the acquisition of magic chalk.
-
almost every time a trailer in quicktime format comes out, you guys spend half the column space perving over the format rather than the actual content. it's not as if it really is that much superior, infact it's the only format i always have problems trying to view on firefox. then again, i'm nibbling on steve jobs' glorious apples. -
Wow, Russians can do souped-up high octane occult crapola like Constantine too.
Whoopee-shit. -
It's because Apple own Quicktime and quicktime as mentioned by JFP2006 is a far superior format.
Plus Apple are in MY personal opinion far better computers. and No I dont use it for Games. I have consoles for that.
Nightwatch looked amazing and had amazing imagery, pity the story felt like it was written by drunk russian. This trailer looks pretty cool but will probably be the same broken story telling. -
...the truce was struck."...?
erm, no...
the truce was struck in their overall conflict and unless the US version of Daywatch is going to be very, very much recut, it had nothing to do with that damn chalk.
oh, and is gandalf now gonna do the narration for american versions of all foreign fantasy flicks? or just their trailers? -
Im not expecting this one to be any better.
-
You guys are so jaded over american action films. any moment you may have to think during a film you call it a piece of crap. It's sad really. And i'm sure the trailer doesn't even come close to revealing the true plot of the film because the trailer for night watch sure as hell didn't.
-
that is all......
-
fair enough, quicktime maybe indeed superior- i'm not here to defend it, nor enter into the mac/pc debate. the thing i want to know is why ainc mention how "glorious" it is every single time theres a trailer using it. i mean, they're not even varying the damned adjective. i don't hear how great a certain type of camera a production uses is when they review a film, even though i'm sure that some are superior to others. the issue of how glorious quicktime is, is very incendental to the business of film, too incedental to be mentioned with such exclaimation each bloody time.
-
The first was weird...acquired taste methinks, this one definitely looks to be more action packed!
-
The moment I saw the cruddy version posted on here I googled it and found the HD on apple....Good grief, is there much point in even using AICN at the moment?
-
to practice turning the kid against his dad
-
I've the Russian copy of this film on DVD and that fucking awesome battle scence at the front of the trailer is no where in the film.
-
Probably smells like ass too. Some interesting visuals, but my guess is that it is a frenzied incoherent nonsensical mess. Europeans and Asians will love it though.
-
oh wait....sorry, misread the title.
-
If people could follow American fantasy stuff, then Nightwatch shouldn't have been a problem. Excellent visuals too, and the comparison to Constantine is odd since that movie had shitty EFX and action.
-
I guard the chalk of destiny at my house and I can tell you now - its freakin awesome. Way cooler than the crayon of myth and more mighty than the marker pen of incredulity. This film will be more amazing than underworld evolution or even tombraider!
-
I can't believe that Fox hasn't hyped this up more.
-
is this the new matrix or some new age techno music visually satisfying movie.
-
...but they couldn't get the licensing. sniff.
-
I just watched the trailer and wow - what the heck does this have to do with Daywatch??? At least Nightwatch was a _little_ like the book, but this just seems random.... I mean I know Daywatch was just supposed to be part two of the nightwatch novel (as opposed to the actual Daywatch novel) but this is a bit silly.... To all those who only seen the movie(s), read the books. They are actually some of the best modern fiction today. The movies are crap by comparison, but probably so popular because the books are so popular. The movies are just cheap excuse to show off that Russia can do special effects...I just wish someone would pick up the original material and make a good quality miniseries or something of it, something more deserving of the great source material than this crap.
-
That is why.
-
H.264 running at 24p -- that's what is glorious. So the proper exclamation from now on should be: "Presented in glorious H.264 compression with AAC audio encoding -- running at 24p."
-
...bad public atom found, no trailer for you.... so much for "just works"...
-
but i don't exclaim how my ass shall be wiped in glorious andrex.
-
Not too hot at all - if this was an American film people would not be getting excited about it. The first film contained many of the worst excesses of Blade 3/ Constantine garbage, but because it was Russian, this somehow became acceptable. Jotham, the action scene you say isn't on your disc is right at the start of the film, it's definitely there, I've seen it (and it's probably the best bit of the film), so maybe it's a problem with your disc. Haven't heard anyone else mention the length yet either - it's two and a half sodding hours long!! And it feels it.
-
Seriously, what does it take to get you assholes excited about a movie? The special effects alone make this a must-see. I don't care if they aren't as photo-realistic as some (I repeat, SOME) of the American summer blockbusters. There is some CRAZY shit going on here, the likes of which I have never seen. For me, seeing something utterly new happen in a movie is far more exciting than seeing the same crap done more realistically. I meam c'mon! It has a freaking horse CHARGING THROUGH STONE WALLS!
-
Always leave it up to Hollywood to destroy a television series like Baywatch. First we have Car 54 Where are You? then Starsky and Hutch and now BAYWATCH!
-
It is such a huge deal because the books are huge - think "Lord of the Rings" movies or "Harry Potter" (which by the way the book makes fun of from time to time) - people want to go see the movie just because it is a movie of a huge blockbuster of a book - that, like HP and LotR, everyone has read. Now, in the US they don't have the books (Although I think the translation of Nightwatch just came out). Unfortunately unlike HP and LotR, the actual movies leave much to be desired, and if you have not read the book, the movies make very little sense. I was very disappointed in the first movie, and judging from the trailer, I am going to hate the second one.... but I am going to go see it, cuz the books were THAT cool.
-
First off, Jotham, my DVD skipped the opening fight as well-- had to find another copy to see it. Bootlegging... meh.
That said, I love this damn movie. I love the hell out of it. It is just so epic, and so well-thought out in terms of the characters. No, it's not the books-- but if you thought NightWatch was close to the book... well, you're crazy.
I hope that the trailers to come don't show anymore of the action sets (since this trailer spoils practically all of them most enjoyable shots of the film)-- and if for some reason you're reading the talkback and haven't watched the trailer yet... well, don't watch the trailer. Save the treats for yourself.
I hope not a minute is cut from this epic film, but I'm not very hopeful, seeing as the US DVD of the first doesn't even contain the whole of the original.
I can't wait to see this in theaters for the first, though... it definately warrants more attention for the visuals and the down-right fun this film supplies.
drave117 is right... this is a MUST SEE. I have seen it, I will see it again, and I will do everything I can to make sure more people see it. -
Anybody comparing this to Blade 3 or Constantine obviously never saw Blade 3 or Constantine. Those entire movies aren't even a fraction as cool as this trailer.
-
but the first film was such a mixed bag!
-
Would you like some making flick BERSERKER!
-
Hmm, I didn't know Alfonso Cuaron was directing this.
-
I know what u mean. However, at least it didn't have that Requiem for a Dream song or a bunch of symphonic chanting.
-
to this site, the amount of fuckwits posting on the talkbacks never ceases to amaze me. Truly, you people are the dregs of humanity, twisted little embittered losers, shitting on everything that they come across, thinking that anyone actually cares about your opinions. You people will never make your mark on the world. Your opinions will NEVER be heard. You want people to care about what you have to say? Turn off the computer, leave your house and so something constructive with you lives. Yes, I'm aware of the irony of posting a tirade against talkbackers on a talkback board, but I came on here hoping for some constructive criticism about movies. Instead, all I see is a bunch of cynical, opinionated, hate-filled, and yes, even xenophobic losers spewing their bile all over this place. You people make me sick.
-
Bring me the hand of deanamatronix! So I can shake it!
-
I have seen both Blade 3 and Constantine, and disliked them both. Honestly, Daywatch really isn't that far from those films in my opinion - heavily shiny CG, lots of speed-up-slow-down action scenes. The trailer really does show the best bits from the film - there is around a half-hour in the middle of the film in which absolutely NOTHING happens - the pacing sags so badly that the viewer is almost asleep. Deanamatronix, why are you ranting and raving about people giving their opinions on the board? It's what its for.
-
which alone would make me want to see it.
-
The director has no ability to create actions scenes or fight, so instead he has slow motion matrix style camera swirls around screaming characters. Lots of pretty good effects wasted on an abysmal cast, script and horrible direction.
Worst movie I've seen in a long time, avoid at all costs.
P.S. I'm Russian and I've read the pretty good books those films are based on. Also I didn't think the first movie was all that bad (unlike most of the book fans thought). -
Quicktime looks beautiful - when it works. For me it will always be one of the pain-in-the-ass formats: you never now what will happen if you click on it, I never seem to be able to play fullscreen.
There are only two current formats I dislike even more: Realmedia and Flash movies. Especially the latter for the hoops it makes you jump through before you can download and play fullscreen. Why can't Flash be resized? I hate that.
About the nightwatch/daywatch: happened to catch Nightwatch on cable the other day and was disappointed to find (was expecting a cool story) it was indeed on Blade 3 level. Incredibly boring good vs. evil theme (another boring prophecy-story, bleh). Beautifully made, though. Well-used and well-executed special effects. Good acting and many scenes worked in themselves. But the whole was a boring, predictable mess. -
"Incredibly boring good vs. evil theme" - you completely missed the point. The point is that the "light" is just as bad as the "dark" - they manipulate their underlings to believe in the "good vs evil" propaganda (each side telling they are the good) meanwhile the whole point is to keep the balance going. Either side wins and the world is fucked, and the heads of each side understand it. Its a fundamental conflict between "good of masses" and "individual freedom", communism vs capitalism, democrats vs republicans, cold war Russia vs US, Vorlons vs Shadows, etc, etc, etc. It is a lot deeper than all the "Good vs Evil" bullshit commonly found. Of course the movies pretty much fail to bring this out.

Great use of the Clerks Reference!!!!!

I have to give you credit for pointing out the theme of "There are no good guys or bad guys" shtick that the Russians are throwing out there with this film. But that's exactly WHY their culture and the ideology they created, Communism, is evil. Marc Steyn calls Russia the “the sick man of Europe”, with falling life expectancy, riddled with HIV and tuberculosis and heart disease, its infrastructure crumbling, its borders unenforceable and its wily kleptocracy draining its wealth westward. It is the philosophy of moral equivalence that has CAUSED all these problems in Russia.
Moral standards are absolute and objective. A compromise between good and evil is a victory for evil. A world where the US wins is a better world. Don't you want to live in a world where you have individual freedom? Individual rights are the foundation of a civil society. If the Russians win everybody looses. No more individual rights. No more market economy. No more free trade. No more freedom of movement. No more morals and a plummeting birth rate. I realize life is a balancing act, but to say they are both the same is infantile.
-
Communism is not evil. It is just naive. The only thing preventing it from being a viable type of government is human greed. Just because capitalism is more compatible with that greed does not make it a morally superior system; just a more practical one. So get off your high horse. I would love it if we lived in a world where communism could actually work, but it is not sustainable on a large scale. It is a sweet idea underneath; everybody does their part, and receives an equal share of the rewards. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on anything larger than, say, a small, closely-knit community. (Hey, there's that root word again, look at that!) Or possibly a co-op building full of college kid hippies.

...the argument of the "dark side" in the "Watch" universe. At least thats what they sell to the rank and file to do their bidding - a banner cry for the ignorant. Just like the "light" has their banner cry of how EVIL the "dark side" is. The books actually follow a low level analyst for the "light side" who becomes a field agent and subsequently starts learning about the chess game that is going on behind the scenes of this supposed "good vs evil" battle. The bottom line is that in the open battle between the two, it is the people in the middle that are getting fucked no metter who is winning. As for Communism, you should maybe study up your history instead of making an ass of yourself. A few facts for you - communism is not a russian thing, in fact "Communist Manifesto" was written by Karl Marx, a German. Unlike some other countries, Russia is not and never was a Communist country not did it ever claim to be. In fact the name of the country was Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics, not Communist - Socialist. Now the country was run by Communist Party, but that name signified the party ideals, not the form of government. Just like Labor party has little to do with labor and American Democrats and Republicans have little to do with democracy and republics. You are also wrong about wealth - in fact Moscow, I believe, is currently one of the wealthiest cities in the WORLD. Wealth hardly flows to the west, quite the opposite. As for moral standards being "absolute and objective" - LOL.... you are a bit naive or maybe that post was sarcastic? if not, you might understand the world a bit better after you pass puberty and experience it a bit.

Having lived with a film addict in St. Petersburg, Russia for a year, I grew to appreciate many classic Russian films. But "Night Watch" I disliked more than a little: I hated it, in fact. The "let's throw everything in the cooking pot all at once" storytelling style was stupid and weak, to say the least. Nothing about the film was inspired or original. Possibly the visual tricks were interesting for some people, but the overall lack of compelling characters and storylines sank the film before it began. In my opinion, Bekmambetur is Russia's Michael Bay. Lots of visuals, no drama whatsoever.
"Day Watch" looks like more of the same. Undead bad guys doing Matrix-y things with cars while trying to look cooler than any human alive is about the summit of entertainment here. Been there, done that. I'll skip this film and check out other, far more interesting Russian projects.

Saw Daywatch at the Berlin festival. It was not that great. I liked Nightwatch, but I recon watching movies always depends on which mood you are in watching it.
Watching Daywatch, I was expecting it to live up to my plesant experience of the first one, but I found it messy and yaddaya'ish... -
"It is much more superior than all of the other formats and supports anamorphic widescreen which none of the others do or if they do never get released that way."
LOL. WMV supports anamorphic video. Known as "non-square pixels" to those of us who actually know what we;re talking about. Quicktime is nothing but a wrapper for H.264. BFD.

I saw this in Ukaine and loved it. AS somebody said before, the opening battle is at the beginning of the movie and is amazing. I saw Nightwatch in Ukraine also and couldn't believe that Fox did such a bad job on its release. Hope they do better with this.
I'm really amused by some of the comments or criticisms of the visual effects of the film since the audacity that the director shows in going completely over the top with his choices is one of the things that made both films so engaging. As much as people seem to think it is a series of rehashes, I found them both completely original. The audacity that I'm talking about reminds me of the great Chinese films of the 80s and 90s and their enthusiasm that is so missing in the cynical product spat out by Hollywood.
Finally, daywatch takes the story into a completely different direction and since I've never read the books, and probably never will, I was completely caught off guard.
I guess if you hate it already you shouldnt' catch it at the theater but I'll see it again when it finally arrives here and I can't wait to see the 3rd one.
