The New American RATATOUILLE Trailer’s Online Today!

Published at:  Mar 24, 2007 7:47:57 PM CDT

And if you can’t wait for the HD debut next week, then head over to Disney’s official site, where you can see it right now.

The Japanese trailer that leaked online about a week ago was created to really emphasize the quiet character side of the film, which is evidently what Japanese audiences like most in the Pixar films, while this American trailer contains some of the same imagery while also doing a great job of laying out the comic premise of the film more clearly.

I can tell you that everything I’ve seen from this film so far (about a half-hour total) is a knockout, and I have every confidence this will continue Brad Bird’s winning streak in style. Check it out and let me know what you guys think.

    by spencertrilby

I meant, First message on AICN ever. Wow.
I wish I could trash Michael Bay or something to celebrate this glorious day.

Back to Ratatouille, I wish it could live up to The Incredibles. That one ruled big time. Unlike these fucking Dreamworks' movies.

    Not Japanese

    by koreth

That trailer's subtitles were in Chinese, not Japanese. The two languages share some characters but there were a bunch of characters in that trailer that are only used in Chinese. Most Japanese people would not have been able to read substantial parts of that trailer's subtitles, so if that was really a Japanese trailer, it was a damn lousy one.

Too soon to damn Michael Bay, so cast Hulk Hogan.

    by jackpumpkinhead

Because he gots to know. Er, eat.

Anyway, what's with the animated rat movies recently? They're disgusting scum and kids shouldn't be taught to like them. More cute animated sharks, I say!

    by therealmoriarty

    Thank you for that.

However, I was at Pixar the week before the trailer was leaked, and I was told by Brad Bird that the trailer was specifically cut for the Japanese market. Not Chinese... Japanese. If the leaked version had been subtitled in Chinese, that's fine. That's not what the trailer was cut for, though.

It's in the same format, but ComingSoon has the trailer up as well for anybody who's having problems loading it off of Disney's site: http://tinyurl.com/ysn3nm. Looks really good; I'm thinking and hoping that this will be a lot of fun to watch.

    by negative man

...but the trailers do nothing for me. The best moment in this one, the moment that made me smirk, was when the rat was trying to ease the blinfold back over the cooks eyes. Beyond that, it's pretty flat. Like CARS (talk about overrated...), it just feels like uninspired, throw darts at the idea board and combine character hit with plot hit, sort of a film. Loves me the Brad Bird, so I give it a huge benefit of the doubt simply on his involvement. I think the kid has a future in the moving pictures industry.

...been on here nearly everyday and I guessed I missed the article concerning the final trailer. And I only posted this info in the two of three new posts because I thought our fellow film fanatics might not know about it and would enjoy it. Posting that in the obituary just plain wrong, of course.

    It Was Chinese

    by prezmike

It was Chinese man, Chinese, not Japanese. The subtitles were Chinese. And I think it was clarified in the article itself last time, and was definitely pointed out in the talk back last time. It's really not that hard to spot the difference even if you don't know either laguage.

    About time..

    by sister sam

I've been working on product for this movie for almost a year, and have seen a bunch of early stuff, which Disney made me sign a release not to talk about. I am so glad I can finally talk about this flick! I think it looks great, really brings out the relationship between Remy and Linguini. HOpe it does well, partly cause I really am excited to see it, and partly so my product sells!

    by beelkay

He's great! This looks more like a Pixar movie I'd want to watch...I'm afraid I was a little underwhelmed by "Cars". I mean, why would there even BE cars if there aren't any humans?! They've got doors and stuff...and no hands! How are they made?! It makes no sense!!!

    by shub-wankalot

A Pixar flick that has the meat and charm to cater to my adult sensibility. Although I've passed on "Cars," I'll take the wild plunge for this movie. Class act.

    by caipirina

What is it with the US studios slowly turning the global internet into little tiny villages ??? When i want to watch it in better res (which is think this XD means, disney likes to give stuff their own names) ... i get a message I can't get it because I am not in the US ... same mess as with the Andy Barker full eps ... no wonder people turn to piracy and youtube ...

And a talking rat who's a gourmet chef makes sense?

    by blackmantis

Criticizing Cars because it makes no sense makes no sense. I didn't like Cars because it was overly long and not as clever as previous Pixar entries. This looks great, though.

So talking talking toys, bugs, and fish make sense

    by prezmike

Not to mention monsters coming through closets, bouncing lamps, superheroes... It's called imagination... It's like saying The Sixth Sense was great, with a kid seeing dead people, but Unbreakable was stupid, because it was about superheroes and their nemesis.

    Pixar's borscht-belt humor...

    by bruno diaz

is getting old. They need to make their Bambi; a poignant drama and/or an Alice in Wonderland eerie trip-out flick that's kind of demented and scary and fun all at the same time. This looks great and I love most Pixar movies (The Incredibles and Toy Story 2 above all). But I'd love to see the studio stretch a little. They seem to do a lot of sitcom-ey type schtick with their characters. It's done very well, and The Incredibles hinted at more possibilities (Brad Bird absolutely rules), but they've got to try some stuff that's really different. Walt Disney was a genius because he took huge, bold risks. Fantasia, Snow White, Dumbo, Pinnochio, Sleeping Beauty, Bambi, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Robin Hood were all very different films. If Pixar wants to garner anything close to Walt Disney's legacy they need to stop patting themselves on the back for their story-telling skills (which are immense) and start using them to take us into some uncharted territory.

yeah, points noted, fellas. but all those films apart from cars could actually exist within the flippin' world we live in at a liitle stretch of the old imagination. cars was just out there. fucking wierd shit. like some one else said, who makes the cars? why do they have doors? why do they have seats inside? and more importantly why the hell do they fall in love with each other? are they gonna fuck and make little baby cars? WTF! thats some acid shit. lasseter must've been listening to some serious bob marley and smoking some serious skunk to come up with that premise. cars simply didnt work- it existed in a world of its own. story was poorly redone doc hollywood shit too. look at bugs life. that was seven samurai or some shit redone...but redone WELL. note the difference, people.

And as I just explained, I saw the trailer sitting next to Brad Bird, director of the film, while I was at Pixar, where they made the film, and they clearly told me the trailer was cut for the JAPANESE market.

Yes... the version online had Chinese subtitles. So that's where it was pirated. But it was not created for that market. It is the Japanese trailer. I'll take Pixar and Brad Bird's word on this one.

But please... by all means... tell me I'm wrong again.

    bacci40. "japanese trailer better"

    by council estate scumbag

i agree, mate. it had more heart and soul and grounded the film in reality. thats the way to sell this baby, not the usual, we've-seen-it-all-before comedy schtick we're being fed like Ready Brek. This ISNT "open season" for fucks sake, sell it to us as MORE than that, otherwise the general public with think its just another shitty CGI film. i can see the great 2d crash of the late 90's happening all over again. mark my words.

    by excaliburffolkes

That is what this trailer seems like. Then again, some of the trailers for "The Incredibles" were pretty lame, too; but, that movie turned out decent.
