FIRST YEAH!
-
ON AICN.... I THINK I JUST CREAMED MY PANTS!
-
Hey, since we're pandering in the sleaze, where's the mention of the other torture-porn, the one with chase me down the mountain with a mountain lion Cuthbert? Or do we just mention movies made by buddies of the site owner?
-
WOOHOO! Looks good to me.
-
That clip just looked like a movie about people doing nothing in particular. A girl takes a bathy and then runs around a little. I sure hope the movie is just like the clip.
-
who the hell are you and what have you done to MCMLXXVI?
-
It's fun to know in March what to skip in June.
-
Then I can support them and no longer have to read Harry going down on Eli Roth, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodgiuez, & Michael Bay.</br> Is there any doubt that Harry's mind (or his wallet) has already given thumbs up to Hostel 2, Gindhouse, & Transformers?
-
Because they already have the whole movie and director "figured out" by watching a short clip. It's like listening to a chorus of Comic Books Guys.
-
That was a great line. That dude needs to be nominated for something, not sure what, but he really just had me hooked. Can't wait for some HOT ASS covered in blood. Let loose the blood and cleavage, uh I meant cleavers.
-
Is there a problem here, with Captivity and Hostel 2? Is there a point where these filmmakers are just going too far? Bijoux Phillips holding her own head, with that fantastic body in the European poster? What's the message there? Oh, it's so sexy to watch girls getting slaughtered? Are we so numb as a society that we just want to watch torture porn, screw the plot? And if not, what's next? I like Heather Matarazzo, and I don't find the idea of her being gutted on a meathook to be the least bit entertaining. I loved Halloween, I loved watching Jamie Lee getting away from Michael Myers ... but this just looks sick, and kind of depressing. I don't care how plucky the heroines are, it's just not the same. That being said, I will say that showing the two jerks from Desperate Housewives talking about their fun little outing at the Hostel ... that was chilling. But I can't support this film. Bet it makes 80 million opening week-end, though. The level of violence will be the only thing that makes people take off their Ipod headphones long enough to watch.
-
We had Roth figured out based on Cabin Fever and Hostel. Fool me three times...
-
Does anyone else think that Eli Roth makes Michael Bay look like a genius?
-
...how much longer we have to wade through torture porn? Oh, excuse me, the marketing term is "claustrophobic cruelty"...
-
And i'm sure most people do, overwise there would be no Saw or Hostel movies, it's human nature to want to see people go through horrific situations. It doesn't make you sick, i'm sure many of us are not the violent type but we all watch this kind of thing. My only problem with Hostel is that it never really went far enough, I was just expecting much worse. Lets hope he ups the anti this time.
-
also, I love Lost. and I think the Iraq war is going swimmingly...
-
...who don't watch Lost every week slag it. The show only works if you have watched every single episode (probably at least twice). All these haters just 'lost' track and now just say it's crap because they can't get back into it. I can guarantee that in a year or so the same ones wil be slagging heroes. This is the problem with TV, you have to commit yourself to something like Lost otherwise you may aswell not bother. The amount of people I know who just watch the occasional episode and then say it's crap. I'm sure most films would be crap if you missed a chunk out.
-
I dont know what you guys are smoking.
-
harry bashing ehhh... be nice...
-
This just in ... the filmakers of Hostel 2 are so impressed with the second film, they're moving ahead with a third. First was the guys, second was the girls ... the third one will be the kiddies. A school trip to Europe turns ugly, when the backers of the Hostel realize child torture sells even better. But, wait, this one won't just be torture porn, its really a film about female empowerment, as the plucky 12 year old heroine seizes her inner warrior to escape from the brutality of the Hostel, but not without losing a few digits. If they can't get Dakota Fanning, they're going to try for that chick from Little Miss Sunshine. Seriously, horror movies can be cathartic, and it doesn't make you a bad person to watch them. Maybe Hostel isn't going too far, but those Captivity billboards were, those people should be ashamed of themselves. But instead, they're probably proud because they know they scored a ton of free publicity for their little turkey.
-
This is one area where I disagree with Harry without question. I have no issue with Harry personally or think that Harry takes coin for movie reviews and those who say so are fucking morons. But as far as Eli Roth goes it's just a difference of opinion. As far as the movies Roth has out out. IMO......Cabin Fever, sucked. Hostel, sucked. He is no where near the genius that Harry claims him to be. I found both movies to be terrible. I gave him two chances out of fairness. I won't even bother with Hostel 2. I did watch the trailer though and that has to be one of the worst I've seen. Nothing about that trailer even remotely got me excited about the movie. This movie will be a total failure. Hopefully Eli Roth will stop making bad movies and just disappear. Sorry Harry he's just not that great.
-
Seriously, it looks terrible. Worst of all is the camera work which cannot decide whether it wont to look handheld or not and ends up looking unprofessional - which it is. And dont get me started on the pedestrian direction. I will NOT be watching this.
-
does not matter. Looks like shit.
-
as a director that Roth is polarizing. You either hate him or you really hate him
-
No seriously mates, I hate these torture for porn flicks, argh, this be looking like something Jefferey Dahmer would shit out!
-
I like Roth, like his movies. Torture porn? Right. Sure.
-
that argument for Lost (which trust me, I have heard 4528 times) sounds to me like saying it's ok to be a crackhead, as long as you can afford it. you just have to commit!<p>the show is televised crack. great way to get ratings, but about as valuable artistically as "who wants to marry a midget?"<p>cigarettes are not good for you simply because they're addictive. Lost is not a good show simply because it hooks people into watching it week after week. you can't justify something's merit because people get hooked. that's like saying Roth's movies are great because they make money...so does Fall Out Boy...
-
I don't think artistic value was ever a top agenda for the creators of Lost. Intriging plot and suspense are though and the show delivers on both accounts. All I was saying is that no matter how good a serial drama is, it is pointless unless viewed in full. I'm taking it that you have been a devoted viewer though seeing as you can critisize, if you are not a devoted viewer then slagging the show is like slagging a film you have only watched part of.
-
I'm in a talkback of course people should be slagging things they havent even seen. Oops.
-
...'but it hasn't got an intriging plot and it isn't suspensful'. Then why do people watch it? You said it was like TV crack, well it is addictive but it ain't bad for me so all's good.
-
I watched it for a bit, but it's just plain silly. but that's not the point. if you have to see every single goddamn episode of a serial drama (as you've written a few times), then it's going to be heavy handed and overwrought, in my opinion. you can watch and episode of the west wing and enjoy it on its merits, even if you haven't seen every episode. if a show is so laden with complicated (and ultimately, mostly unimportant) twists and turns, and full of dozens and dozens of characters that come and go at random, it is obviously going to suffer under that weight. character development and subtlety end up going by the wayside. lost is just The Real World on an island. a bunch of pretty people who end up not really getting anything done.
-
....of course the twists and turns won't make any sense if you don't watch it. Of course it is a bit silly it's sci-fi essentially. And as someone who watches the show every character has been well developed, esspecially with the use of flashbacks.
-
I can't really muster up anything else to say.
-
I remember reading Rue Morgue's interviews with him months before Cabin Fever came out, and instantly feeling like he's a guy you could watch a good bad horror movie with while killing a couple beers. Those types of people are always cool in my book. Besides, that clip in the pool looks like a long lost bad 80's slasher movie. I can't fucking wait.
-
I thought the first Hostel was much better than I was expecting it to be. I had a lot of fun with it and I don't usually enjoy torture porn. That said, this clip looked like balls. Whoever this girl is, she's terrible. One of the reasons I liked the first one was the leads (Jay Hernandez and the other dude) were decent actors.
-
gotta eat hot ass lesbians
-
I really have high hopes for this film but based on that clip, it looked absoluted retarded..the pacing was off, one min she's in the hot tub in some lesbianiac L Word fantasy then all of a sudden she's in a locker area then on a roof climbing then running into the woods, is this like a bad video game nightmare? Okay so she gets caught, after Turistas, this genre is getting yawn tired!
-
In the toilet bowl at a truck stop Taco Bell Express.
-
I think, these couple of minutes are already better shot and more thrilling than the whole first movie.
-
Go buy a Lexus you top 2 percenters
-
Same old, same old Eli. Just go watch DAWN OF THE DEAD and 300 and see what a REAL film-maker can do. CABIN FEVER was OK, HOSTEL - well, didn't deliver on what it promised and was definitely one for the sickos. And as for the claim that this one's sicker 'cos it's women... <p>Eli, Eli. Either you're still 14 and the subject of Rob Zombie's new shitfest, or you really REALLY need to get laid. Seriously. Once you get off on a woman, you won't need to get off on mutilating them. On film, of course. Sicko.
-
Bless you MCMLXXVI. Damn the Man!
-
What could possibly happen next? Any chance we get to see the actress raped and or tortured? Very clever screenplay. Hitchcock has nothing over Roth.

Its only scary when you put yourself in that situation
by godzillasushi
and wonder WTF would you do? Makes me fear Europe greatly.
-
The rest of the film was awful. <p>I quite liked cabin Fever. Don't really know why
-
...with Eli Rot being in the chair. And if it was shot for real. Crappy gore =/= horror. Most of the Italians understood it in the 80s. Rot doesn't understand it today.
-
Actually, the gore level of Hostel probably isn't enough. What we really need is a reality series, perhaps from the producers and director of Hostel? Here's a freebie for ya, guys, which really needs special people with a certain ... level of standards. Call it, "Who Wants to Marry A Serial Killer." Have 20 greedy Bachelor style bimbettes competing for the affections of a rich Prince Charming. The twist? He's really a Ted Bundy style serial killer! And instead of a rose for the girls who move on each week, the loser gets a special "elimination date" where she can plead her case, but really, she just ends up pleading for her life. And for the final winner, who thinks she gets to live in a castle with Prince Charming, she instead gets locked in it and wins the million dollarsonly if she can survive the night. Now, thats sexy. Oh, and you could use REAL PROPS FROM HOSTEL, just to give it that extra coolness factor! From executive producer Quentin Tarantino ... who wouldn't watch!
-
this is the kind of stuff you see in new Steven Seagal movies. nothing to write home about.
-
This clip was admittedly pretty boring, I don't know why he'd choose it to put up, there's so little real tension and we don't know who the guy driving the truck is so his lines and bad acting mean nothing. But I'm not worried by any means, I love Hostel and Cabin Fever and everything else I've seen from this movie but this clip was majorly meh.

Sebastian Haff: The "he's a guy I could drink a beer...
by Childe Roland
...with" test should NEVER be used to determine someone's potential as a movie director or, as we all found out, a President.<p>Besides, most of us couldn't afford to party with Roth and, even if we could, you just know he'd hog all the blow.
-
...of Roth's, if you check the frapper you'll see they all live in the Niagara Falls area of Canada. We wouldn't know them.
-
...it's actually good. Kind of a guilty pleasure of mine is to rent it for a weekend when I know I'll have friends over drinking late one night. I don't so much watch the movie anymore as I do the people watching it. Their baffled/angry looks are priceless. But I don't think that's what Roth was going for.
-
If Hills Have Eyes cracks $15M this weekend I'll be surprised. Just like the "Scream" clones this long tired genre looks like it's finally out of gas. Thank God, maybe now horror films can have plots again.
-
Indeed
-
Looks stupid....there was no tension in that clip whatsoever. The camera work really was bad (and I don't usually notice that stuff) and the girl can't act....she hardly seemed scared when the guys were chasing her.
-
...that by subjecting unsuspecting folks to Cabin Fever after a few drinks and then watching their horrified (and not in the way Roth intended) reactions, I'm actually engaging in a sort of participatory torture porn performance art.<p>I feel kind of dirty now.
-
I love all the talentless monday morning quaterbacks making the rounds on these boards bad-mouthing directors/producers. Eli may not produce your type of film...great, don't watch it. But don't ever say Cabin Fever didn't rock.
-
What the hell happened to that story? Was it some kinda joke, or is he better, because no one on this site seems to have given it a second thought. Clip looked great by the way. Never understood the Eli hate.
-
Eli Roth, he makes the torture porn!!!!
-
I rented the First Hostel and didn't know much about it, but it really made my stomach turn and stuck in my head the next few weeks after watching it. It was gory and disgusting and I know I won't rent Hostel 2 based on Hostel. I mean I like Nightmare on Elm street and stuff like that, but this Hostel movie was just sicko.
-
Nothing but haters.
-
That was terrible. Eli Roth is the new William Castle. He talks a good film but has little to no talent for making them. He should get together with Zach Snyder and restart Troma studios. I'm sure they'd be happy there making their 'awesome' little movies....apologies to William Castles family, I merely meant that Roth is a good salesman, not that Mr Castle was a bad director. In fact, The tingler is better than everything Roth has made so far.
