A Trailer For The American Release Of DAYWATCH (The NIGHT WATCH Sequel) Is Here To See If You're Extremely Patient!!

Published at:  Mar 15, 2007 9:52:43 AM CDT

Merrick here...

Every week, we get e-mails asking about what happened to the American release of DAYWATCH, the NIGHT WATCH sequel that has already been released in Russia. We were kinda/sorta told it was coming to the States, then...no substantive news.

So, if you've been wondering, here's your answer...

TRAILERY PREVIEW HERE!!!

Beware slow load times for this, by the way.

Personally, I wasn't as knocked out by NIGHT WATCH as many people seem to be - it felt a little clichéd and illogical for my tastes. This said, I've enough interest in seeing this sequel (the middle part of a trilogy)...which I haven't done yet...even though it's been sitting on my desk for the better part of a year.

Maybe this one will work better for me; I sure do like some of the imagery here. What do you folks think?

Now powered by Tesla coils! Some slow-ass shit there.

    by doctor_sin

But, I was hip to the fun factor of Nightwatch. Could have been much better, though. Still, I will gladly partake of Russian Vampire action flicks.

Wellll i liked the movie Nightwatch alot, and i have seen the sequel and i have to say... its better then the first! the imagery goes up a bigg notch and the story is really good. The only problem is that i dont quite understand the trilogy aspect of the movie seeing that the end of daywatch ties everything in nicely. but as i heard it will be shot in america so i am sure they will find a way to ressurect everyone or at least open a daywatch/nightwatch kinda franchise in the us. anywayz i think this is one to reeallly check out people!

    by catch_n_rye

Seen both of them. Personally I liked the second one a little more than the first. It almost seemed like they were completely differnt films. Definately funnier than first and a little more story and fantasy driven.

    Liked both Nightwatch and Daywatch

    by masterkenobi

And Daywatch was better. I love how they use a fantastical "historical" twist and then tie it in with the modern day story. In this case it was how the undefeated conqueror Timur Lenk finds the chalk of fate. I´m curious what the same director will do with the comic Wanted by Millar.

    Movie was nothing but visuals.
Would have been better without the hype...
Day Watch ain't that much better if you ask me, but it's getting there. Hoping the third one beats me over the head.

    by dirkd13"

How the hell do those Russkies manage to make movies that look this good for almost no money. Night Watch was a great movie once I started to figure out what was going on, and as a purely visual exercise it rocked, with bells on.

Nightwatch was interesting ina freaky russian kinda way

    by newc0253

highly stylised fights, surreal imagery, mixed in with russian folklore and goofiness. maybe a bit too russian for my tastes, but it's good to see them mixing it up.

    NIGHT WATCH...

    by wiseblood

SUCKED. I found myself 45 minutes into the flick thinking about how lame it was, then after another 15 minutes I took it out and put in Slither. I subsequently enjoyed the rest of the evening.

    total let down (night watch)

    by exador

I'd just finished reading the book when my brother in law and i watched the movie...wow..what a let down...
ok..first off, at the very least, the actors i thought were perfectly casted...but man...the movie was so different from the book it was like two different projects, just both using the same characters...i'd been expecting the same storyline..not this shit...i mean what the fuck?....anyone else read the book here?...anyone else as surprised as me when the movie turned out to be 100 completely different?...anyhow, it was a let down...the book was fantastic...atleast the movie got the main character right...that actor nailed it...he was excellent i thought..

    Confusing thing about the trilogy....

    by swiftyj

I have read the Night Watch book and just recently started Day Watch. I will say it is vastly superior to the movie. But I did enjoy the first movie. The confusing thing about the books and the movies is that the film(NIght Watch) was only the first third of the book. It looks like this movie is comprised of the second and third part of the first book. None of it is from the actual book Day Watch, which introduces us to a Day Watch agent and her view point. What gives? Why would they make a movie from a trilogy of books and only make a trilogy of movies out of the first book? Does this make any logical sense to any of you?

    Nightwatch was ace.

    by reelheed

I felt that it was funny, wierd and mythic in the same way that many modern asian movies are. It was unusual and fresh. I disliked the "evil baddy plays tekken to reveal the future" scenes but thought that all the rest was great. Particularly the umbral shadow world. Very menacing. Looking forward to seeing Daywatch!

I'm not so sure it is a trilogy.

    by thebigdogg

Last I heard the series of books was a trilogy but this film was effectively part 2 of the very first book. Or something like that. Books and films don't match.

    Dusk Watch...

    by kusoyaro

Is apparently going to be a separate story or something. So that being the case, I'm not sure why they bothered to do a trilogy in the first place, since Day Watch wraps up the story started in Night Watch.

    I didn't mind the film...

    by bubcus

We kept getting advertisements for it to show up in theaters where I am but it never did. I finally rented the film a few months ago and we had some set-backs with the subtitles. Wound up having to flip the disk upside down and I think we had to put up with closed captioning. That was a bit annoying but anyway.

I didn't mind the film, wasn't overly thrilled with it, but I did love the ending and set up for the sequel.

I didn't love the movie to buy it on DVD, it's a rental in my books. (But a worthwhile rental).

    First one was crap

    by pd18

I remember reading about how Nightwatch was such a fucking cool movie. Great visuals, cool story, made in Russia. I went to my local video store to pick it up. While there, I was chatting with a couple of dudes looking to blaze a fatty and watch a cool flick. I recommended Nightwatch because of all the hype I'd read about it. Well, that night, I blazed a fatty and watched it. Now, I am a genre fanboy, I can be entertained by just about anything. I had to turn of this piece of shit halfway through. Seriously, it sucked. It had a pretty cool concept, but just felt like a Canadian Movie of the Week. I suppose it had some decent visuals, but the lead actor was so terrible - I could not buy for a second that this guy was a badass. It takes A LOT for me to walk out/turn off a movie. I had decent expectations for this franchise, but I have to say - it is AMATEURISH film-making - at best. Crappy, crappy, crappy movies...

    Not a trilogy ???

    by faust_8

I hear that Fox bought the rights to the Night Watch series, which led to the delay in release of Day Watch because they wanted some reshoots to shrink the trilogy into only two films instead ?

    This movie....

    by doomius 2.0

rocked all sorts of ass! I don't know what the hell people are complaining about. The only and I mean ONLY way to watch it is in it's native Russian with subtitles. I have never seen subtitles used in such a way that it actually adds to the movie watching experience. I saw Night Watch on DVD last year and have been patiently awaiting the U.S. release of Day Watch. Sad thing about all of this is that I keep hearing rumors that since Fox bought the film rights, the third movie will be an American production with different actors altogether! I hope that is not the case because how will that work as a trilogy if A.)all actors no longer speak Russian and B.)all actors have been replaced.

It would be as if Italy bought the rights to the Star Wars franchise and Return of the Jedi was filmed with Italian actors, with Roberto Benigni as Han Solo....imagine that!

Day Watch was a bit of a letdown

    by evilwizardglick

Night Watch was so good that Day Watch seemed a bit of a letdown.
Night Watch threw so many twists you never saw where it was going to wind up.
Day Watch changed the formula a bit and didn't really seem as linear to the Night Watch universe.
Still original concepts and the party scene was incredible.

    Hate to sound all uber-patriotic

    by oisin5199

but I felt like an American version of Nightwatch would have been so much better. The pacing was so off, the ending made no sense, the visuals didn't serve the story - it's like the director thought, now I can do these cool effects like they do in The Matrix and Underworld, so let's throw everything in. I liked the concept but was disappointed it didn't make a better film. The best part was when the kid was watching an episode of Buffy.

    Nightwatch was great.

    by neo zeed

I was afraid it was going to be all hype, but it was actually a cool little flick. I can't wait to see part 2. Also oisin5199.. I dunno about America being all coherent with the sci-fi/fantasy stuff lately. (Martix sequels were wacky and the Underworld movies are too convoulted, Star Wars prequels...) On a side note, I can't stand those Harry Potter movies for all the random FX they throw at me. I think in one of those movies a Jamaican ghost in double decker bus picked up Harry to take him to the school, and then while in school he rides a giant chicken, stairs rotate, random spells go awry for cheap yucks, and a bunch of other CGI scenes which are distracting to the actual plot. Nevertheless, it's America's favorite.
