Brief Bits on RED, WHITE, BLACK AND BLUE

Here's another article to keep your mind off of what happened today...

Hey there Harry, it's the UCLA Phantom again.

I was recently at the Entertainment Networking night for UCLA alumni and
undergrads. I sat at Donald DeLine of DeLine Productions table. DeLine has a
first look deal with Paramount and spoke about current projects he's working
on. He told everyone at the table about a film he was developing "Red, White,
Black and Blue" He said it was a film set during the 1976 bicentennial and
focuses on three characters who by society's standards look like gutter trash,
but really they represent the good in america. He said something like an
action film with heart. The most interesting thing was that he said Lauryn
Hill was very, very interesteed in playing a lead! After her Grammy win it's
about time she did some films. She was pretty much the only good thing about
Sister Act II.

    Red, White, Black and... yawn.

Hopefully there's been some major rewrites since I read a couple drafts of this project about a year and a half ago. What I read was overloaded with violent, senseless, unimaginative action to the point of numbing repetition. Despite what this producer says, while the characters had promise, they were all pretty thin and one-dimensional. Story wasn't much to write home about either. This is one of those projects that's been mired in development - but based on the drafts I read I have to say it belongs there.
