We need a Rome talkback... Is it just me or is this show turning into another Wire where it's practically the best show on TV yet virtually no one watches and it is never nominated for squat come award season.

    Sopranos season 6...

    by jimmy rabbitte

... was a labor to watch at times. I can't argue with that. However, I *do* feel it picked up in quality (if not speed) as the last three or four episodes aired. I have hopes that these last remaining episodes will deliver the type of pacing and action we've been waiting for since season three.

...and for all the Rome fans... I offer one small bit of encouragement...

As Joey "The Lips" said at the end of The Commitments, "Sure we could've been famous and made albums; but that would've been predictable... this way it's poetry."

So even if the general populace never wakes up to how good a show Rome is; fans of the show will *always* know; and that'll be something to have over the rest of the zombified sitcom armies...

    THIRTEEN!!!

    What am I missing

    by doggus47

I've seen every episode and I don't get it. Either I laugh at some of the funny scenes- like the train in the tunnel- or I don't care. Am I supposed to root for Tony? Do I care about Carmela? Is this such high art that there was no need to have a single new episode in 2005?

    The Sopranos...

    by jimmy rabbitte

...has always had long breaks between seasons. These last episodes have been delayed by about 3 to 4 months due to an injury James Gandolfini sustained in an accident just as shooting was to begin.

The location of the last shot is...

    by gnortsmra

The place is called Holsten's in Bloomfield. Their gig is that they make all their ice cream right there (their rum raisin is-- pardon the bad pun-- killer!).
Word on the news was that originally the mayor (an "Italian-American" according to the news) wasn't keen on the idea, saying the old line that it the show was a bad representation of their community, etc. By week's end he had changed his tune.

Wonder what made him change his mind?

The Mayor never changed his mind

    by falcon5768

And it was the Mayor AND the town counsel who was bitching about it, actually more than bitching, they denied filming of it there till HBO and a local radio show did some law digging and found that as long as you didnt need a waver (which their production didnt fall into the laws for needing one by Bloomfield) then the Mayor and government couldnt do shit to prevent it.

Basically all the chest thumping ended in making the entire city government look like a bunch of pompous asses. Not that its that hard or anything...

Remember when Herc printed that rumour of Finn getting raped by Vito?Every Sopranos TB after that was filled with TBers revealing their true repressed feelings with comments like "Where's the Finn rape? Every good show needs male rape!!!"That was frakking disturbing.

were great, let me just say that season 6 sucked a-hole. And that's not just a play on the whole fat Vito and Johnny Cakes theme. Here's hoping season 6.5 is a little better, and lacking in mobster butt buddies. Beyond the gayness, it was just oh so boring except for the 1st episode. Oh and fuck the season 6 defenders. It sucked. Period.

    by rhcp2sweet

Besides the first episode and the last 2 it was rubbish. The Tony shooting at the beginning of the season was very poorly handled and I didn't like the whole vito story or the overemphasis on Johnny Sac. Hopefully the second half of season 6 is a lot better.

    It kind of upsets me...

    by danielkurland

that shows like Carnivale, Deadwood, Rome, etc. are cancelled due to various issues, but HBO bends over backwards for The Sopranos, whether it be contract hold outs, filming movies, or anything. I understand that it was arguably their first huge show that got them some acclaim, but it's kind of ridiculous about all the stops they pulled out for them, when if any of these issues came up on another show, they'd just cancel it.

    by uss cygnus

Tony kills or dispatches all his enemies, is left alone (even if just for that moment), We have a flashback to a happy time...and Tony sits alone in thought, as Winter approaches and the leaves blow in the wind...I think it would be a homage ending, but utterly perfect.

    Better be some blood

    by bruno diaz

I'm so sick of all the dream sequences and pussy-ass crap on the Sopranos. I know it's supposed to be a family drama, but it's lost track of the mob aspect over the last couple of seasons. For these final episodes, I want blood. I want main characters getting whacked. David Chase needs to realize he's not working on Northern Exposure anymore.

It's true, season six so far has been a non starter...

    by sledge hammer

...I mean, sure, The Sopranos has always been somewhat leisurely in it's storytelling approach, but the only thing that was in more of a coma than Tony during the last batch of episodes was the plotting. Seriously, if I want to watch Carmella wander around aimlessly through Paris for 45 fucking minutes for no apparent reason or purpose then I'll watch some bullshit reality travel show. I really do hope that the show goes out on a high, but fuck was the first part of the season ever drawn out, and to no real advancement in the plotting to boot. Not only did practically nothing happen, but practically nothing happened VERY, VERY SLOWLY. Better get your shit together Chase, hate to see the show end with such a whimper.Oh, and yes, Rome is, much like The Wire, one of the very best tv shows that, sadly, all too few people watch or give credit to. Sucks that this is it's final season, but at least Pullo, et al, all have new jobs lined up. Hopefully they're in quality shows.

I just started watching Sopranos last fall

    by itchy

after buying all the box sets (on sale at Costco for $25 each - W00T !) Anyway, I'm 7 episodes into season Six, Part I, and I've got to admit, this is pretty much the best "tv" I've ever watched. Is it inconsistent at times ? Absolutely. But more often than not, it is brilliant. I've seen a lot of criticism about Season 6, but the first few episodes have been great, IMHO. Nuanced and in a different tone than the rest, but that's explainable after Tony's "situation" ... since his perspective is a little different. All in all, the show is a pleasure to watched, and I'm pleased as shit I got to watch them all together, rather than waiting a year and a half or two between seasons.

    by itchy

my favorite episode to date. You learned a ton about Chris and Paulie in that episode, and it was just flawlessly executed. I think the frustration with the Russians never again appearing is that it was so obviously set up for continuing conflict down the line, that it was surprising you never heard about it again. It was primed for a showdown between the "old" mafia and the new. When Paulie and Chris mentioned the incident many episodes later, I once again thought that "Valeri" was coming back ... but no dice.

They could call it 'Walnuts', and it could focus on Paulie's trails and tribulations after going into protective custody with his mother (or aunt, whatever), and ending up living next to some nice Jewish neighbours. Culturs clash comedy subsequently abounds. Gold idea that is.In all seriousness, I love The Sopranos and will be sad to see it end, yet cannot wait to see how it does.

Having main characters whacked every episode is their moronic craving, just like those morons who bitch that Lost doesn't reveal everything each week. Example:

"I'm so sick of all the dream sequences and pussy-ass crap on the Sopranos. I know it's supposed to be a family drama, but it's lost track of the mob aspect over the last couple of seasons. How cool would it be if the final scene in the ice cream parlor is Tony hanging with his family eating cones and all the sudden the Russian mobsters walk in and whack him, as payback for Sergei in the woods incident. Now THAT would be some serious "planning ahead".

Even in the good early seasons, it was the second to last episode that was really the best (my all-time favorite was Richie getting shot). The season finale id usually a huge letdown.
