Capone Summons You To Chicago's HOT FUZZTIVAL!! Behold Big Screen Crime Greatness!!

Published at:  Mar 12, 2007 12:03:51 PM CDT

Hey everyone. Capone here with big news about a spectacular event happening here in Chicago later this month.

So, you know that HOTT FUZZTIVAL that's happening at the Alamo Drafthouse in downtown Austin on March 31? Yeah, it's that, but in Chicago, and earlier in the month, spread out over two days. Have I got your attention yet? Here are the details. READ VERY CAREFULLY!

The first thing you should know is the event in Chicago IS NOT an Ain't It Cool-sponsored event, so please don't bombard me with e-mails begging for tickets. Second, you don't actually need tickets for part of the event. On Sunday, March 25 at the Chicago's Brew & View (3145 N. Sheffield), HOT FUZZTIVAL kicks off with screenings of three classic cop movies, hand picked by the HOT FUZZ folks:

At 3pm, we've got TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A., William Friedkin's awesome 1985 work starring William Peterson and Willem Dafoe, in the film that first made me scared of Dafoe. But the film is probably best known for its scorching theme song by Wang Chung!

INFERNAL AFFAIRS (2002) from Hong Kong comes at 5pm. You probably don't need me to tell you that this is the film that THE DEPARTED is based on, but don't miss this opportunity to see it on the big screen.

At 7pm, we get the film that is most directly referenced in HOT FUZZ, the 1991 Kathryn Bigelow hit POINT BREAK with Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze and Gary Busey. You haven't lived until you've seen Keanu jump out of plane without a parachute.

All you have to do to see these three films is show up to the Brew & View on March 25. The first 25 people to show up AND sit through all three films get VIP reserved seating to a special advanced screening of HOT FUZZ the following night, Monday, March 26.

If you are NOT among the first 25 at the Sunday HOT FUZZTIVAL, you'll still get a pass to the Monday night HOT FUZZ screening, but no reserved seats for you.

After the Monday night screening, the film's stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and director Edgar Wright will do the Q&A thing. I remember Simon and Nick's post-SHAUN OF THE DEAD Q&A a couple years ago in Chicago being among the best I've ever seen (even though it was only about a half-full theater).

Folks, this is just going to be one of those things you remember for years to come. Mark the calendar, make the plans, and prepare for two days of wondrous movies.

    Genious.

I wish I lived in Chicago. Halas, I'm from Montreal, where there is no such festival. It's off to the videostore for me!

    Point Break Live

    by whatitdeux

Saw a live theatrical interpretation of Point Break on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. After Busey's character asked to "get him two", they served meatball sandwiches to the audience.

    So Close and yet...

    by fount of useless info

I live close enough to Chicago that this is incredibly tempting, but I can't do it. That just sucks.

Also, To Live and Die in LA

    by fount of useless info

was the film that first made me scared of William Petersen's penis.

Seriously, have you seen the recent DVD release of that movie? He's "hanging out" in like 3 different scenes in that movie. I didn't want to see Gil Grissom like that.

    screening location

    by therealcapone

I don't want to say where the screening will be held because I don't want people just showing up. But it will NOT be at Pipers Alley or in the suburbs like MONSTER HOUSE was. This is taking place at a theater in downtown Chicago, which really only leaves you a couple of choices.

    once again

    by bloo

Kansas sucks!!! sorry it's my choice to live here, but Kansas NEVER gets any cool screenings and if they ever have in Denver (which I am close enough to attend) I don't know about it or hear about it too late

Great - I gotta pay 20 bucks to park off Michigan Ave.

    by jugdish

There is no such thing as a free screening! Thanks.... but no thanks.

    $20 bucks for parking

    by terek

Are you new to Chicago, Jugdish? You can virtually always find a metered spot within walking distance of the downtown theaters, especially the ones that don't have reasonable validated parking.

    This is awesome.

    by crimson king

I was just at the Bank of America right next to the theater. I asked the chick in the box office about the event, but she didn't know anything about it. Oh well, I'm still gonna be there. I just have to make sure I get that Sunday off work...

    Also, Jugdish...

    by crimson king

If you're parking off Michigan Ave. for this, you're in the wrong part of town. Unless there's something else I don't know about this event...

    Oh...

    by crimson king

For the downtown screening...got it. I thought this was all taking place at the Brew & View, both days. I guess if it's "downtown" it's either the Loews on Michigan Ave. or the AMC River East. And yeah, Piper's Alley kinda blows.

This is officially more promotion than Miramax gave INFERNAL AFFAIRS during its official theatrical release here.

    Hot Fuzztival

    by swordfish3000

Nice to see that the HOT FUZZTIVAL idea is being repeated outside of the UK. An extended form of the event - which also had a Hot Fuzz preview and talk with Wright, Pegg and Frost - was held at the ICA in London before the UK opening...cracking stuff all round.
