Reese Witherspoon IS (Not) MISSING!!

Published at:  Mar 08, 2007 5:49:19 AM CST

And I’ll bet Smokin’ Joe Carnahan wants to kick her ass as a result.

In just over a month, Carnahan is set to being production on BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING, a remake of an Otto Preminger film in which a distraught woman tries to find her missing child, only to be told repeatedly that the child never existed at all. The original is a pretty sly little thriller, and there’s certainly room to do something new with the basic premise. Will audiences think it’s too similar to something like 2005’s FLIGHTPLAN? In the hands of Carnahan, I doubt it.

But now Reese Witherspoon, his star, has walked off the film, meaning it’s time for Carnahan to find someone to take her place. On this timetable, Witherspoon’s leaving could seriously cripple the picture.

We’ll be rooting for Carnahnan to pull this one out, but if it does implode, at least he’s already got WHITE JAZZ with George Clooney set up and ready to go.

We’ll keep our eyes and ears open as news on this one continues to develop.

I was thinking more along the lines of The Forgotten

    by boondock devil

It's nearing the point where it's going to be it's own genre. Big selling point is that it's Carnahan behind the camera which is enough to sell me on it.

Imagine if Reese Witherspoon were actually missing

    by fluffyunbound

It would be the biggest "Blonde White Woman Is Missing - NOW ON CNN!" story of all time. Greta van Susteren and Larry King would have strokes, from happiness overloads.

People throw around hack a wee bit too much

    by boondock devil

C'mon RobbedZombie... Carnahan's a hack? You were just talking about how respected Rob Zombie's films were on the Halloween talkback and have to come on here to pair up Joe with the likes of Uwe Boll? Narc was terrific and while I'll agree Smokin Aces should have been a lot more fun than it ended up being it wasn't overly horrible. Let's leave calling the really shitty director's hacks before just crowning anyone with that title.

    by badmrwonka

that was a train wreck of a film...you can't make a half crazy weird reservoir dogs wannabe fuckfest, and half normal detective drama, and expect it to not be a clusterfuck...the only good thing about that movie was Affleck's accent...

After all the hype I sat down and watched on dvd

    by emeraldboy

The very hall mark tv movie production that was walk the line. I felt that movie was soulless and I am not suprised cashs daughter from his first marriage wanted nothing to do with the movie. It all but portrayed cash's first wife as a headcase. Phoenix looked like cash but it was so overhyped. It didnt deserve all the hype.

Not sure how this is anything but good news...

    by brokentusk

Carnahnan will find a replacement and audiences will be spared another "serious" role from Reese Witherspoon. Not sure why I'm so anti-Reese Witherspoon (I actually have NOTHING against her), but she certainly doesn't sound right for this film. Also, the story sounds exactly like THE FORGOTTEN (as I see others have been saying already), I thought that film was on its way to being brilliant and then just fell apart. The concept is great though and I'm sure it can be done better than THE FORGOTTEN. Same with STRANGER THAN FICTION, I'm waiting for that to be remade in a few years with a more serious tone.

I read a piece about her in Empire magazine

    by emeraldboy

Even though she is blonde and blue eyed, Resse has a rod of Iron down her back. Her and her exhubby seemed happy prior to her divorce, did he discover that she was a bitch too. I wonder. There is something a little robotical about her.

Thought that her performance was the best she has ever given but there is something tracy flick about resse alright. beneath that blonde haired blue eyed cute demeanour is someone who would slaughter a queue people to get to the top. I havent seen her last film the one where she plays a ghost. Far from Heaven i think it was called. Looked shite. I avoided it.

    by emeraldboy

Carnahan seems like an ass. I dont know anything about George clooney about I have heard that beneath the swauve exterior lies someone who doest suffer fools gladly. I heard that the guy who wrote the original Oceans Twelve screenplay for clooney was fired on day one. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for Clooney Carnhan spats. Given that carnahan seems to be an ass. and a big one.

    Carnahan

    by cobbio

I thought Reese Witherspoon was great in "Walk The Line," and obviously so did the Academy. She showed me she's got range and singing pipes to boot. I really dug her performance.
Like a few people here, I was a bit underwhelmed by "Smokin' Aces." I love Joe Carnahan's style, but I think he clusterfucked the film with too many cooks. I'll bet he had a ton of fun making the film, though. And the .50 cal sniper chick taking out targets was pretty badass. But the film's serious, brooding ending took me out of the buildup a bit.
But I'll definitely check out Carnahan's next film. Witherspoon or no Witherspoon, I'm hoping he delivers.

    by hktelemacher

but apparently I was the only one alive who really dug it and I was really looking forward to seeing what Carnahan had in store for BUNNY LAKE. The original is good stuff, I was curious how Carnahan would give it some more oomph, especially in the wake of fucking FLIGHTPLAN. As for ACES, I know NARC was tops, but what the hell kind of curve is everyone grading this on? It seems like it gets nitpicked to death. I myself ate it up. A great genre movie with some nice action and some good character moments, and even if it was predictable in some obvious areas it was still compelling in some places that snuck up on me. It was as if Michael Bay directed a true crime documentary and that kind of mad excess is worth something in my book.

    BUNNY FORGOT about her FLIGHT.

    by darkman

Somehow, I didn't quite see Reese in the role, either. I like her, though.

And, if only for the concept, I liked THE FORGOTTEN. Even with the whole 'experiment' angle, I was drawn in.

Also, SMOKIN' ACES was terrific, save for its 'twist ending for the sake of a' twist ending. I'm sure Carnahan will do a fine job with this if a new lead is found.

    I hated...

    by crimson king

Flightplan and The Forgotten. Two movies I was quite looking forward to, which I thought ended up being shitty. I did like Smokin' Aces, though, and for once I can finally say I saw the "twist" coming a mile and a half away. Actually, I don't even think it was that much of a twist, I thought it was quite obvious. To me anyway. And I'm usually the one that gets sucked into the movie and never sees the twist.

Reese walked out of Whiteout too...

    by jacknchuckslovechild

She was supposed to star in the thriller Whiteout (so I've heard), which shooting is starting this March in Montreal, but now it's Miss Beckinsale doing the part. Or maybe she dropped out of BLIM to do Whiteout, I'll look into it.
