‘He’s Not A Paper Salesman!!’ L-Prime Gives Tonight’s HEROES (The Jack Bennet Flashback Installment) FIVE STARS!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
“Heroes” 1.17 aired Oscar night in Canada, a full day before we here in the states get our look. Tonight's episode at last tells us the secret origin of Claire’s bespectacled pop.
Ain’t It Cool’s main TV Canadian gives the episode five stars. Which shouldn’t surprise anybody, because it was written by “Dead Like Me”/”Wonderfalls” creator and all-around ubergenius Bryan Fuller.
Here’s “L-Prime”:
What’s it called?
“Company Man”
Who’s responsible?
The wonderful Bryan Fuller handles the words; Allan Arkush the lenses.
What does TV Guide say?
“The Bennets are taken hostage by Matt and Ted Sprague, which leads to a tragic showdown---and some insight into Mr. Bennet's mysterious past. Eric Roberts guest stars.”
That tricky little TV Guide hiding anything?
Not really. This is more of a visceral, stripped-down hour than this usually multi-tiered/plotted series is used to, but man is that single story a doozy.
How long do we wait for the first surprise?
About two minutes into act one. It has to do with the rumoured scene with HRG conversing entirely in Japanese.
The next one?
Not even an act break.
We go all flashbacky this week?
Boy do we. We hop back 14 years and meet HRG’s recruiter, HDC (High Dark Collar), Claude (Mr. Invisible), the Haitian, and two other familiar faces too good to spoil.
Do we find out which side HRG’s people are on?
Not completely. We start in one place, migrate to another.
Do we find out which side HRG himself is on?
We see a good chunk of his motivation. But whether they apply when the hour is out will be another story.
So we knew it would be HRG intensive, but does it open the man up completely? How does Coleman acquit himself?
Not everything about the man is laid bare (no first name for one), but we get a much more concrete sense of where his ultimate loyalties lie, and the forces he has been navigating. Coleman also definitively proves himself to be one of the show’s major bedrocks when it comes to gravitas and carrying the dramatic weight. Top drawer.
Do we find out what or who is behind ‘the company’?
We’re definitely presented with one huge, shocking answer, but nothing is fleshed out. Suffice to say the Heroesverse got a little smaller tonight.
What else is crazy?
How about friggin’ everything! The Haitian reveals a secret motivation! We (kinda) find out how Claude fell out of HRG’s peoples’ good graces! There’s a hell of a fireball! Multiple people are shot! A mind is set to be wiped! Plenty of exclamation points!!!
How about Peter, Simone, and Isaac?
No sign.
Hiro and Ando?
Absent (mostly).
Nathan?
Nope. Noticing a trend?
Suresh and Sylar?
Negatory.
Niki, DL and Micah?
What do you think? Basically, except for the flashbacks and one trip to Primatech paper, this could be a stage play set in the Bennet house. If you could light that stage on fire. And, interestingly, in a reflection of the scarcity of regular cast, the main credits are truncated to Grunberg, Panetierre and Coleman, plus supporters. Don’t know if I’ve ever seen that before in a series like this.
What’s good?
“I wouldn’t hurt … Mr. Muggles.”; “So tell me, how do you feel about paper?” “Wildly enthusiastic.”; Claude’s initial intro; “He’s not a paper salesman.”; the track a bullet takes to exit; “I wanted to put it in the front of my fridge.”; basically every moment of HRG’s backstory; Claude’s exit; “Just one more thing: when should we be expecting Claire?”; we witness the birth of HRG’s nickname; the cliffhanger, a real hum-diddly-dinger, leaving the fate of … let’s just say watch the damn show.
What’s no good?
Absolutely nothing. As perfect an hour of TV as this series has yet to deliver. Some questions answered, others raised, menace presented, stakes pushed.
How does it end?
“I love you, Clairebear.”
Rating for Heroes 1.17 (out of five stars)?
*****. Emphatically. On another show, it might have been a bit of a gamble to depart from formula so heavily and zoom in on just a focused story, but this installment worked in the tradition (flashbacks and all) of the very best of Lost — and I do realize just how high that’s setting the bar. And I realize that for a spoiler site, this wasn’t terribly spoilery, but that’s cuz you all need to watch it for yourselves. Possibly the best ep of Heroes yet, and one of the best hours of TV yet this year.
9 p.m. Monday. NBC.

Can't wait
-
It started and ended fantastically, but the hostage situation gets REAL DULL, REAL FAST in the middle section (except for the flashbacks of course). Claire, Claire-Mom, and Claire-brother spend a good 20 minutes having a Bad Acting Contest in the middle of the episode. Fortunately they can't derail the whole ep, but it definitely pulls it out of 5-star range. Don't get me wrong, still a great episode.
-
Definitely a 4.5 episode up there with the episode off buffy where her mum dies, but not quite perfect have to agree about the middle section.
-
...and his only reaction was "OH... MY... GOD".
-
and also playing poker and vomiting...but I love AICMN, and the Heroes advanccesd post...love it!!!chrth, what'm'I gonna bowl? I lost a clean Grand last night betting on bowling whie I was drunk...tomorrow, I need to win my shit back...CHRTH, WHAT AM I GONNA BOWL?!?!?!
-
playin da WoW i see?
-
and it was freaking awesome episode!
-
...a lot of good reviews. Even the previews have been giving me chills, so I hope tonight doesn't dissapoint.
-
You guys are gonna love this. Best episode of "Heroes" yet, for sure. After tonight, I don't want to hear about "blah blah crappy writing and acting blah blah". This episode takes the show at least to the level of the best episodes of "LOST". For all the spoilers and theories floating around, I have to say this episode caught me completely off guard - some awesome twists. A new bar has been set.
-
This episode was without a doubt the best yet. The ending was jaw dropping !! Watch this and DVR 24 because unless Jack Bauer is scheduled to die tonite there is no excuse for missing Heroes tonight.
-
Young Hiro uses the power of !AWESOME! on his gameboy..... you'll see.... I liked the ep, but I find the whole Peter/Hiro's arc more fascinating.. don't get me wrong Claire/HRG's whole story is cool, but I am just creaming at the idea of a Sylar/Peter Showdown where peter uses sylars powers against him.......... domoarigato gozaimasu! *BAMF*
-
With Eccleston playing Claude, giving him an honorary doctorate seems more appropriate, don't you think?
As for tonight's episode, I'm glad to hear that the momentum shift HEROES has received from LOST is still in effect. It seems Monday is the new Wednesday.
-
but that's OK -- work is over rated.
Less than 12 hours!!
HOOT!!
-
Now I dont even know what the hell is going on.
-
And it has replaced '24' for me in terms of "must see". Gotta agree with ya mr ahole...only night of tv I get psyched for. C'mon Jack, raise the bar!
-
Guys, (i'm assuming no gals, I gotsa give credit where credit is due. Both Lost and Heroes (watched 'em both while on vacation in sunny Orlando) had excellent episodes last week. I think something is clicking with the Lost producers and a REAL endgame is prepped. HEROES is just jammin'. I think Peter is finally discovering his newest power...Balls!
-
I wanted that show to succeed so bad...ugh...I'm glad we have Heroes now though.
-
I was all teary eyed at the end of this one.
-
Why does the headline say "Jack Bennet" when the story says we never learn his first name?
-
This is THE BEST Heroes to date. By far.
-
I really thought the middle stretch acquitted itself well against the fantastic bookends. We get a taut, intense snapshot of a desperate situation, and rather than a bad acting contest, I thought for the first time you actually get some depth to the mom and even more into Claire, Ted, Parkman and others.
-
can't freaking wait. When Heroes started, I thought it was a great idea (if a bit derivative from the X-Men), but overacted and erratically written. I'm starting to think that was just a "necessary evil" of juggling so many balls. It has evolved and improved nearly every week, becoming more and more focused and more "nuanced" as it goes. It is clear that Kring has a plan, he is working that plan, and the cast and writers are evolving with the characters. This is becoming truly great TV, and quite possibly could be the best thing on broadcast tv. In fact, outside of The Sopranos, I'm having a hard time thinking of a show I get more excited about watching.
-
I love to stir the pot.
-
I love them all, and I'm damn lucky to have 4 great shows to like so much...many a tv season there have only been one or two standouts.
-
I was ind of going through the motions with Heroes, but ever since it came back from it's hiatus I've been invested and impressed with the episodes, and I'm absolutely looking forward to this one.
-
Okay, sometimes I get annoyed with certain storylines in the episodes, and as a result they bring the episodes down as a whole. The Claire stuff on the other hand is reliably entertaining, so hopefully a full episode dedicated just to that could be one of the series best so far.
And I'm all for a break from Hiro. Hiro is to Heroes what Jar Jar Binks is to Episode 1. Everytime Hiro talks about "my mission" and needing some stupid fucking sword to control his power I'm reminded of Jar Jar and whatever the hell language he spoke. -
but not five stars...the story aspect of it was outstanding..but there was no peter throwing the invisible man over the roof and flying after him moment....
however, the whole ep is cool as hell...and parkman actually to me was the sleeper agent of coolness in this ep...he really came into his own...and really was pretty fricken awesome... -
you are sooo right about peter v sylar.....if I knew when it was going to happen..I would be counting the days....it will be fricken awesome..especially that peter is all bad-ass now....hehehe
-
last weeks episode did kick ass I have to admit. The episode was by far the best written so far and Peter's use of his powers almost made me cum in my pants. Actually looking forward to the next episode for the first time.
-
than stick to Heroes and stay out of the Lost talkback mr. ahole because you obviously don't like the show. It was a solid episode that was pissed on for no reason by "Jack Haters."
-
but i guess my review writing skills are too poor to be posted on this fine website.
-
Fantastic ep! Definitely the series of the year. Let's hope that seasons 2 and 3 keep it up, and that it doesn't go the way of the meh-3rd-seasons of Lost and Battlestar.
-
The last 15 minutes are "edge of your seat" goodness with great f/x work. And I too got weepy at the end. Can't wait to watch it again tonight.n
-
BALLS!tm....and mr. ahole is just trying to get a rise outta ya. He really loves Lost (especially the Thai hotty episode from last week). I do the same thing over in the Studio 60 TB. Just for shits n' giggles. Now THERE'S a show that sucks.
-
But yes, last week's show was bad. Regardless if it was about Jack or not, I don't need a fucking flashback about his gawd damned tattoo to tell me that he "walks among us, but he is not one of us".They are dragging it out, and it's painfully obvious.
-
But I'm not out to hate the episodes before they start. I will go out of my way to find problems with "THE CLASS" tonight when my wife makes me watch it. Now that's a show that SUUUUUCKS! Remember when liking Lost was concidered Nerdy-cool... Now it's mainstream, so everybody gotta hate!
-
summons the power of !AWESOME!(tm) that he got from his meeting with Ando.
-
Since Peter is connected to Sylar's telekinetic powers, is he going to be able to access any future powers that Sylar acquires since they last met? Like the power of Super-Headaches from last week?
-
(sigh), how I'll miss ye'. !Awesome!tm forever!!!!

I wan't to meet the heroes with inconsequential powers
by phantom einstein
Like burping a really long time or turning their pee-pee purple. How come everybody has to have a comic book crime fighting power? Then all the minor powers should get together and form the League of Lameasses and band together to sulk about how they didn't get invisibility or invincibility or whatnot. And they could conduct smear campaigns against Peter on the internet.
-
or the teen in Boston that was hiccuping for over 3 weeks? Can she have a spot on that League? She promises to do her own dry cleaning.
-
He does.
-
I hate it when you put SPOILER-Y quotes in the title to the article. Kind of defeats the purpose of putting a spoiler warning on there, doesn't it? Just be a little more subtle, for fook's sake.
-
'Cause I think that we've known otherwise for awhile... ;)
-
what the hell happened on that bridge when HRG shot Claude for the first time?
He seemed more surprised by that gun going off then the Invinsible Man did.
Sure, it could be sort of a blooper or something, but after Coleman's performance last night, I kinda doubt it... -
and then give him the powers of the Apache Chief. Now that, my friends, would be great television.
-
...The Wonder Twins! And Micah is Gleek.
-
I thought maybe he was my daddy. This was a minor spoiler- anyone would see it coming, but he does it all the time. Makes me a little nuts. Then there was the whole "Who's James Ford?" question he kept asking on Lost articles... We've known that Sawyer is James Ford for quite a while. The tone deaf blogging plus the asinine spoiler-y titles adds up to a whole lot of pain-in-the-assery.
-
Especially since greg grunberg's character has been raving on about HRG not being a paper salesman for quite some time.
-
I was surprised they showed as much as they did. I think this may be the best episode so far, even though it is the smallest in character stories.
-
of Blake Carrington on Dynasty.
-
*Spoiler* Btw, did anyone notice the climax was lifted directly from the 3rd act of X-Men 3? Ted = Dark Phoenix, Claire = Wolvie approaching the Phoenix and decomposing from her power.
Not a complaint -- after all Fox never got off its ass with an X-men show, but still it was pretty obvious. -
If you want a movie with heroes and inconsequential powers, rent Mystery Men. Blue Raja rules!
-
Ep. Spoilers in this post, just FYI.
=So Eric Roberts at the end when he just walked into the house and fired his one shot, did that seem weird to anyone else? Plot convienent perhaps? Other than that, this was the seasons best so far. Mr. Invisible, Hiro and his Dad, Eric Roberts and HRG all working for the same outfit. Okay Hiro was just playin his gameboy, but he was there, where the pigeons shit. Parkman working for the company, yeah right, and who is that HOT little nurse, what does she do? With all these freshly answered questions, they just dig up more reasons for us to ask a whole bunch more. -
That was one huge chunk of resolution. Do you think they could spare a bit for the Lost writers.
Incidentally ********SPOILER*******Was this where the "Save the Cheer Leader, Save the World" prophecy was realised ?************************ -
Is the walking dream Missy Peregrym. What a woman!
-
kicked my ass. so much good stuff. and to chime in on the lost situation, i'm very much enjoying this year, except for the stupid scheduling at the start. the shows have been top notch at its best and good at its worst. are you going to tell me ben showing jack the sox win the world series isn't classic television?
-
...especially when it comes to the subject of this show, on which my outlook has improved dramatically over the past two weeks, but whoever typed above that they don't want to hear any more talk of bad writing because tonight's episode is exceptionally written really needs to think about what he typed there. A couple of good shows do not magically erase a half season's worth of really bad dialogue and acting. Is it a sing of improvement? Absolutely. Is it indicative of a trend? I sure as shit hope so (because I've always seen loads of potential in this premise), but it isn't a clean shake for the Etch-a-Sketch any more than saying your sorry means you didn't hit your wife/kid...or a promise that you won't do it again.
-
SpoilerXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Who was the nurse at the end?
Anyone else notice the infant Claire flashback was on top of the Deaveaux (sp?) building? That means Simone's family is involved somehow.
It looks as if HRG has been playing his bosses for a very long time. Probably since Claude. He hid the Haitians ability to talk and the whole Claire thing.
Wonder what he plans for Parkman.
Also when they all were clustered on the lawn why wasn't Parkman reading Roberts mind. Hell they barely paid attention to him.
This was the best episode yet and unlike Lost has REAL revelations. -
This excellent episode introduced a couple of big questions surrounding that particular strand: who's the Haitian working for that's in Claire's life, and why would that person not want Claire to forget? I daresay the next time we see the Haitian and Claire, we'll find out.I love that they have seemingly set up the Nakamura family against Hiro, and when Hiro comes into his own, there will be huge potential for some Skywalker type conflicts. Loving it.
-
Only one answerwho he answers to, we were shown who is 'in her life' while not actually being in it, and is involved... Kaito Nakamora (Hiro's father).
-
***********Spoiler****************
Hey look! Its HRG's boss out of nowhere to do something incredibly stupid in order to move the plot along. For an extremely powerful secret organization, Primatech Paper Co sure employs a bunch of imbeciles. Same goes for the Heroes universe FBI. Everything is too simple and small. Where's the bureaucracy? And how is it that HRG doesnt die of radiation poisoning while hes sitting in the kitchen when Ted goes nuclear (I mean, his entire house was deteriorating)?? Ok, obviously this isn't a show based in realism. But everything in their world is so god damn convenient. It just feels so sloppy and lazy. Does this bother anybody else?
Besides these complaints, it was a pretty entertaining episode. -
evilwizard - i don't think HRG knew Haitian could talk.
This episode was beyond a doubt one of the best hours I've spent in front of the TV in years.
As for 4400 - Threshold was better at least on premise. Plus Carla G is very appealing to the eyes. -
May have to get that.
-
I thought the Haitian meant god instead of another human. Remember he told Claire their gifts came from god.
Jack didn't all that surprised the Haitian could speak. He asked "who else are you talking to".
-
The boss coming in at the end surprised me because he seemed to be wearing the EXACT SAME THING as in all those flashbacks. Weird, no? Or, just a lazy costume department. So far all the storylines connect except for DL/Jessica/Niki/Micah, but that should change with Linderman. Once that happens, we'll need a Heroesverse tree to keep every connection straight.
It seems like they are setting up two organizations/systems against each other. Hiro's Family/Primatech versus Linderman (unless he's involved with them) and then there's the people like HRG who want to do more. I liked the ep (better written than any previous one, period) but it left me scratching my head still. The stuff with the Hatian kinda confused me, and with Claude, and the damn bridge that NO ONE DRIVES ON. But I digress... -
Spoiler...
HRG totally knew about he Haitian talking, at least, that's the impression I get looking at that short bit again. The "Who else have you been talking to" seems to me like he's just worried he's been talking to people other than himself. But I could be wrong. -
There is a huge revalation already. OMG so far so good :)
-
L-prime was right.
-
and quality wise, this show has already surpassed about 70% of the other programs on television.
-
This episode prob generated atleast another season worth of story atleast for the show.
-
is the blow up guy one of the cavemen people from the geico commercials?
-
He found out from claire on this ep that he could talk
-
Feb 26, 2007 8:49:17 PM CST
Why didnt the Haitian just block Tom's nuclear powers??
by shauntheedifice
Because it would have made for a less exciting ending...
-
That was fucking awesome. Great job on the burnt face makeup.
-
So we dont know if hrg will die and if they will take claire away. Also how does hiros father figure into this company. Does hiros father know he has pwoers.
-
How did the explosion not melt her hair, or even better her clothes? This show is not realistic.
-
That line came from when they saved claire from Sylar.
-
She had no hair, and was all ash like and walking. as she walked it regenerated.
-
Did he drive? was he dropped off by chopper? teleport? flying? He cant just walk through a door from nowhere
-
They have Simpsons, Family Guy, Prison Break, 24, Heroes and Black Donellys all airing within a 48 hour period on the same station, I would assume that Heroes will probably stay on Sundays @9, with Simpsons/ Family Guy for the 8-9 slot. Did Global ever air American Dad? Will they ever again? anyway, I think if Black Donellys stays on Mondays at 10 (that used to be Globals old spot for airing 24), then Heroes will probably be pernamently bumped to Sundays @9. or, you could just skip heroes and read "Rising Stars" or "Seven Soliders of Victory" instead.
-
Wow. They should hire this guy to write more episodes and director to er direct. Everything was just amazing. The story, the acting, special effects, even the cinematography seem like a mile leap foward from this. The biggest accomplishment I think was letting us know every facet that we would need to about HRG without actually compromising any of the plot or his shadowy past. Nad the ending... wow.
-
I'm sort of lost in the ending.
-
Aw snap man. That was a really good plan. Make him forget so he actually thinks that she was stolen away or something
-
I am humbled by a great show.
-
Jack Coleman for an Emmy Award.
-
I just flipped to NBC and it was still on? My vcr stopped taping like 3 minutes ago? WTF? I missed the last couple of minutes.
-
Yeah, def. sarcasm on the realistic part.
-
Hatian shot hrg right where he wont die and made him fogret either about claires powers or about the past day.
-
Twenty-what?
-
Loved it. FF2 commercial was badass. Spider-Man 3 preview next week. Marvel apparently knows where their target market is. On another note, who the fuck is Eric Roberts? There are still no real answers about where this company came from. And as ridiculously hot as Missy Peregrym is, I'm tired of new characters. God, listen to me bitch. These are just small nitpicks in an overall phenomenal episode.
-
I suppose one could draw a connection with the need to save(once again) the cheerleader this time from Linderman. But i don't think they were hinting at this moment from back when hiro spoke the words to peter. but i still dont know if that is what your are asking. its a silly question
-
Wow. What a great episode.
-
'nuff said.
-
but that episode was stunning.
-
since they saved the cheerleader, she was alive to stop the geico caveman from exploding, and therefore, she saved the world. They saved the cheerleader, the cheerleader saved the world. I think that's what he was getting at.
-
then Hollywood can suck it. From white eyed rookie, to cold blooded killer, to concerned parent in 60 minutes. Damn, where did this guy come from?!!
-
On to the most important part: spreading HDC as HRG's boss' nickname all the hell over the internet. Make it happen, Talkbackers.
-
but you all know what i meant. I'm still recovering.
-
Jack Bennet is the new Jack Bristow.
-
I don't want to give anything away, but you compared it to an episode of Lost, if Lost actually got to some semblance of moving the plot along. I really think there is a conspiracy going on between men (any women?) trying to contain the 'inhanced' population and use them for their own diabolical purposes. Great use of Eric Roberts. By the way, did anyone notice that in one scene a former 'Doctor' was in the room with a former 'Master' from Doctor Who? Nice casting and direction.
-
that on a show about super-powered characters, my favorite character had no powers. HRG has eclipsed Hiro as the most interesting character on the show. Coleman has such charisma as an actor, he carries weaker actors and overcomes bad writing. He should get some sort of nomination for this episode.
-
Some sweet special effects. Only complaint was radiation was handled as though it only makes fire, when it 'should' cause hair loss and death at the levels they were exposed to.
-
I've been wanting to say that since last night- heh. I didn't find Eric Roberts inculsion that abrupt because of the set up during the flashback. I really liked this ep because I am adopted myself but I grew up knowing I was adopted just like I knew my eyes were blue. It was just a part of who I was. And when HRG said that Claire "grew in thier hearts", it may have sounded corny to some but it was eerily familar to me, as my parents used to tell me that I wasn't just given to them, they made a choice to pick me. I felt so bad that Claire had to go on the run. I suppose HRG will end up chasing her now and become a real villian. *sniff* I'm sooo conflicted!!!
-
Definitely the best episode by far. How the fuck did they manage to top last week's episode so soon? So many revelations. So many new questions. The scene with Ted and Claire was the best I've seen on TV in years. A+. Bitch.
-
Does that mean Sulu isn't actually Hiro's dad? Did Sulu take Hiro from someone the same way HRG took Clair--until Hiro's powers manifested. Although, if that was the case, he probably would have been a little more adamant about getting Hiro to go back to their motherland, rather than just using the company as an excuse and giving up when the sister showed some backbone.
-
Not all superheroes are born with natural powers, ya know.
-
Parkman and Jack got one hell of a radiation dose from Ted. At the very least they are sterile.
-
to spray jizz like a geyser whenever Claire is prancing around in her cheerleader outfit. Overall, excellent, excellent episode. The Takei appearance was classic.
-
If he had generated radiation, then that entire area would have been vaporized. Claire was able to sedate him and allowed him to blow the door off the hinge. She was completely charbroiled. Plus she can heal which means her metabolism regenerated her cells and soon her hair would come back to it's blonde self. Apparently according to the next ep, Sloane has regenerated powers too, or Peter was able to heal her.
-
He is a great actor. Watching him ion Heroes and having watched him on Kingdom Hospital...it's like both characters weren't even played by the same person.
-
(Though no doubt drawing some guffaws) The NBC sked tonight is entirely out to kill Studio 60. They run this event ep of Heroes at least four or five minutes long so as to spill into Black Donnellys and jack up the Nielsens, thereby killing any reliability on the actual numbers for the 10:00 hour, but giving them the ammunition they need to kill Studio 60. Oh well. Give me Heroes and 30 Rock, NBC, I'll be happy. Black Donnellys, 40 minutes in, isn't as awful as I'd expected, but it's hardly genius.
-
I'm freakin out over that one. What's her deal? I'm thinking it might be another Peter dream. But maybe not...And Linderman is Malcolm McDowell. Not the architect. Could be interesting, though.
-
That was badass.
-
did Eric Roberts' character believe the Hatian was guilty of anyway (at the end of the ep.)? What was HRG blaming on the Hatian? HRG is the one that raised her, surely Roberts knows he was involved in hiding her? I didn't quite get that part.
-
More thoughts forthcoming after I catch up on TB.
-
He's still going to remember his daughter, just not that she had a power. Because I doubt that 15 years will be erased, just the last couple of months. I think it will make the re-revelation when they inevitably reconcile be very cool though.
-
"Company Man" (17th ep): Heroes :: "School Hard" (15th ep) : BtVS. What makes this show great is that on one level it's all about Mohinder and his Dad's work with the Human Genome Project, and all these heroes discovering their powers, with Sylar as the evil renegade -- which would be enough plot for one normal show. But at the same time it's all about this conspiratorial organization involving Hiro's Dad, HRG's boss, and probably Linderman, which has been dealing with the phenomenon for at least 15 years -- which is also enough plot for an entire show. ***** BTW, I agree that the Haitian meant "God" as the other person that he had to answer to.
-
HRG forgetting his feelings for Claire and going after her to bring her back to Mr. Brightside.
-
1) Simone scene was likely a Peter vision
2) Raiden23: HRG convinced Eric Roberts that it was the Haitian hiding Claire, not his own self; ie HRG didn't know she had powers.
3) I'm realllly interested in knowing who Claude 'buried' ... maybe it was Jessica (although that'd be pretty dang literal, huh?)
4) I don't think HRG will be evil going forward; I think he's going to be teamed with Parkman going forward, so it'd be tough for HRG to be evil while Parkman was around. Speaking of Parkman, great job on his part today, both actor and character.
5) Holy shit that chick was HAWT! I hope we get to see more of her.
6) The episode was so good, I barely cared about what happened on 24 tonight. -
C'mon, the event at the Bennett house was totally lifted from the Jean vs. Chuck scene in X3. And even though they didn't include a cool Matrixy slo-mo shot, it was light years better th what Rothman and Co. delivered. That shot of Claire walking out the front door burnt to a crisp had more weight than any of Jackman's healing scenes in the X-flicks. It's almost as if Kring and the gang are taunting Fox for fucking up so badly. This episode solidified the show. Yes, even with the fact that Matt and HRG most likely will not suffer after effects of radiation poisoning. It's a shame that the roll this show is on will be stopped dead when Micah shows back up.
-
I remember hearing that there was going to be a Mystique style chararacter, at least as far as powers go. So, I think that was what Issac saw. Or maybe, HotNurses power to be irristable to men works by appearing to be who they want more then anyone else in the world, and Issac wants Mutiracial Art Dealer more then anything else. Even tho she's all shot and bloody and whatnot.
-
C'mon Mr.HEADGEEK sir, what say you?
-
Thinking in Japanese was awesome, the entire Ted meltdown was awesome, and Matt, HRG, and The Haitian walking and arguing struck me as particulary awesome, for some reason I can't figure out.
-
for fucking up so badly."
Yeah, Fox is reallllly suffering after only grossing $460 million worldwide. Shermdawg, we know you didn't like it, but X3, despite its faults, was a commercial success. Fox couldn't care less.
I'm hoping Micah and DL are on the sidelines next week, and it's just Nikki/Jessica.
-
So say we all.
Why are we calling him HDC again? What does that stand for? And they should team Parkman with HRG because it'll give Parkman something to do. -
I'm sure he was thinking how much fun it'd be to take advantage of dead Claire on her bed surrounded by her bears. And Yoko could be watching and giggling the whole time.
-
why would a mute, black guy who worked for HRG be so involved in his daughters life that he discovered her powers on his own AND kept them from her (adoptive) father? Was he impliying he was banging her? That would be much more realistic:)
-
The stand off when Matt shot Claire. With HRG and Claire both telling Matt to shoot her with their thoughts. That was some intense shit.
-
I suspect she will find this eventually to be the case...
-
to Claude, who did the same thing. The Haitian wanted to 'bury' her to protect her from the League of Neutral/Pulp Faction (yep, the name(s) haven't changed)
-
In the above post I was trying to see thing from Eric Roberts perspective. I mean - if Roberts character was smart - he would have seen right through HRG. He HAD to be involved.
-
I've been wondering if this is what's going to happen with her as well. As far as I can tell, her power isn't very useful in a Hero capacity outside of running into burning train wrecks and rescuing people.
Arashikage: Agreed, that was f'ing great. -
this episode just officially leapfrogged into the title of my favorite TV show not named The Wire or The Shield
-
What the hell happened to that Internet chick from last week with Ted and Matt?
And I don't get how Matt went from hanging out with the family to being unconscious in a hospital-ish room.
A good episode overall, for Heroes. -
You folks don't reeeeeally have to call Eric Roberts HDC (High Dark Collar). I just wanted a clothing-based nickname (mediocre at best, I know) to throw into the review, and thought it would be fun to viral it all over the interwebs. Though feel free to continue.
-
That's the final evidence that Roberts would need to no longer suspect HRG.
-
BSG > Heroes > Lost
Galactica and Heroes give you answers and take RISKS.
Lost gives you no answers and hasn't taken one risk since the show started. -
oh ok. So there might be some sort of underground, resistance movement for superpowered folks? Claude and the Haitian both working for - who? I never thought of that.
-
Just might be their own conscience getting in the way of the company.
-
After his Caesar-style haircut.
-
Or else when someone on the show gets gravely injured it'd just be "oh just let Claire save the day again".
Also hoping that maybe this will give Parkman something to do now and maybe boost up his powers slowly to Professor X type abilities i.e. possibly controlling others and projecting images/mental illusions. That sort of thing. -
Smallville, Andromeda, Jake 2.0, Tru Calling, Dark Angel. Definitely a worthy edition to the show.
-
there is some sort of organized movement that is infiltrating Primatech. What are the chances of TWO company employees risking their lives on moral grounds? I'm sure they have psychological tests to weed out those that take the moral high ground. Claude, especially, does not seem the type to risk his life for anyone. There's something behind this.
-
they were probably planning to get him in FBI and do the show a la 4400. Luckily they got some writing talent in willing to try something new.
-
about Stupid Blonde FBI Chick. The fact that we called her Stupid Blonde FBI Chick was probably their first clue.
-
The end was cribbed from X3, but it was so well done that i didn't even notice until someone on here brought it up. And thats one of Heroes strengths. Even when being derivative, they do it to the hilt, and better then anyone else.
-
The Killers already gave us his nickname. That's what I shall call him.
-
..that just means there are only two more episodes left. That deserves atleast two Jack Bauer "dammits!" and one "Sonofabitch!"
-
God how much do I love that awful awful movie.
-
I swear I was just about to say that if he's not Mr. Brightside, then He's Best of the best. Shall he be called BOTB from now on. works for me.
-
ANSWER: Hittin' the jukebox!!!
-
...oh, and Roberts buying HRG's story isn't too much of a stretch. With the Claude thing and the latent "them" bigotry displayed throughout the notion of one freak protecting another, or of one freak confiding to another freak instead of her own father would go down pretty easy. It would be a mark against HRG, but this is a guy who's done fifteen years of solids for these people, including, as far as they know, killing his own partner. Putting a bullet in him and wiping his memory (a proof of the freaks working together) is just icing on the cake.
-
There are normally 22 episodes in a season, and tonight was number 17. That means five more episodes, unless they pull a 24 and have like, you know, twenty-four episodes.
-
BOTB works for me. In ways too painful to go into that movie cost me the biggest paycheck I have ever been in danger of getting. I give BOTB probationary approval, awaiting confirmation by Chrth, the final arbiter of Heroes' nicknames.
-
I thought I heard in the promo after the episode that there were only two episodes left but maybe (hopefully) I was wrong.
-
I'm pretty sure there will be more than 22 hours of HEROES. Didn't LOST go over b/c it was a hit? NBC is going to milk this fucker for all its worth.
-
I can't throw my full weight behind it. I'd rather go with Mr. Brightside than BOTB.
-
Tonights episode of Heroes should get an emmy nomination. The Sulu revelation was fantastic. It answers a lot of questions, and opens up many more. Emotionally it works on many levels. To the writers (and you know you read this site) damn good job.
Lost is losing me, fast. Heroes and BSG are by far the best tv on tv (although I have a life, and aside form The Office and CSI:LV, thats all I watch). -
Next week's, and then 4 for May sweeps; I thought I read that there was going to be a 6-week hiatus.
-
Oh well.. still doesn't stop my love for that movie.
-
They said something about the final chapters, and it confused me too, cause it was the sort of thing you say for a season finale. But then I counted the episodes, and felt much better. I wasn't just giving you shit, cause i would curse and very likely have to corpse someone up if there were only 2 left in the season. And I'll probably start drinking again when the show really does end for the year. I'm fragile.
-
Eric Roberts "Has recently joined the cast of Heroes as Thompson, an associate of Mr. "Horn-Rimmed Glasses" Bennent". So he already has a name.
-
Does Linderman have abilities or not? If he does what do you think they should be?
-
only because I can't think of anything better than that either. Plus I concur with you baseballfury there will be much drunkeness for the hiatus. Not that there wouldn't be anyways. Just saying.
-
Linderman is almost certainly the "other person in Claire's life". Nathan thought she was dead, as did FireStarter. Linderman is powerful enough (as described) and entwined in the Petrelli family that he probably knows of Claire and the haitain (remember he is wearing the symbol, which is the same symbol on the sword, which is the sword Linderman now owns). My guess, Claire and Haitian will be meeting Linderman next week. If not, they go find Peter. As for the ending being very similar to the ending of X3.. as my brother said at the end of Jaws 3... there are only so many ways you can kill a fish. That was in response to my statement that I was upset they blew up the shark again like in the first Jaws. You have a nuclear guy and healing girl... only so many ways that could have played out.
-
I loved the fact that they tied together so many plots and mysteries from the first part of the season. Remember when it would take X-Files until it got into it's 6th and 7th seasons before we'd get any clue about what was going on and who was who.
-
I read somewhere (maybe tv guide or sci-fi or someother spoiler site) that there are going to be twenty three episodes this season. That would leave us with at least five weeks of Heroes left. There will be a two hour season finale.
Great episode BTW. Best yet. One question, What happens to the bullets in your chest if you turn invisible? Probably part of the reason Claude survived. -
14 years ago they were on top of the building that was owned by the father of Simone. Peter had shared dreams of Simone's father the day he died, so we can probably assume he had some sort of abilities that Peter unwittingly absorbed. Simone probably also has abilities also that will be revealed next week (as hinted at in the previews). They probably know of the petrelli's having abilities, and Nathan was therefore specifically selected to be the Nurse (it would explain the coincidences). Since the powers are all suppose to be genetic, it would make sense that they can be traced back to people who are often related or somehow inter-connected.
-
Studio 60, if only beacause it meant I had to watch the Daily Show from two fridays ago again, for the 4th or so time. I really do like Studio 60, but that's what pissed me off about it not being on.
-
Someone completely nailed it when they compared him to Jack Bristow. I don't think I have the sack to walk towards an exploding man emitting tons of heat to administer a tranq. Gotta give it to a guy who can hold his own against superbeings.
-
I didn't hate X3. I really hate parts of it, and directions they took, and even though they besmirhed the property I love, it was still a mindless fun opcorn flick with some neato effects here and there. It's like pizza. Even when it's bad, it's good.
-
Plus you don't just hire Shaft and keep him around for a few scenes of him just in bed dying. You just know he'll be in some important flashbacks.
-
I like Studio 60. We have enough crime family people from the streets soap operas. I think the Studio 60 audience isn't as great an overlap of the Heroes audience that scheduling predicted. If it's moved, I will probably follow it, but I kind of like the slot it's in now.
-
Talk about just your all-time great genre nights on television. Plus maybe having Heroes as a lead-in would bump up the ratings for BSG.
-
I think that's where Peter got his "dream" power from. Didn't Simone's dad say something about him having a dream of Peter flying? As it was said, this would explain how Simone would have a power as well, but is it the same as Claire's?
Also, my cousin has a theory about Linderman. Maybe someone already brought it up, but what if Linderman is future Peter using Hiro's power to orchestrate all the heroes finding one another without having to convince them. It would explain why all of them seem to have ties to Linderman, and a lot of the "coincidences".
Only problem I have with the theory is if this was the case, why would Linderman/Peter put a hit out on his own brother? Also, Linderman's actions seem quite a bit against Peter's character.
Just throwing another idea out there. -
would be one of my favorite hours of the year when this show started, I'd call you crazy. That, as you all have stated, was a very good episode, and I love how much Jack is a better character from when he was first introduced. I also don't think Claire shouldbe able to heal others as it would become too much of a convenience and cheapen serious situations. Peter healing by taking her power was enough. Also, I feel stupid asking this, but since I didn't go to the Heroes talkbacks when it started, what does HRG stand for?
-
Do you think he basically did what HRG did to Claire tonight? Sent somebody into hiding? My thinking would be Nikki/Jessica, she's the only unrelated one so far.
-
HRG stands for Horned Rimmed Glasses aka Mr. Bennett.

Venture Bros picked up for 3rd and possible 4th season
by boondock devil
Heroes season 2 and more Venture Bros... life really is good right now.
-
He makes Peter O'Toole look vibrant and healthy.
-
"gravitas" isn't a singular term. It needs a "the" in front of it. Excellent review though. I like your use of the acronym "HRG". How can they follow up an ep like this? Hell, how can they make this show more than 3 seasons? Maybe that's a good thing? Blah, the Star Trek comedy show where Warp 11 got its start, Prime Directive on google video. tinyurl.com/38fcbn
-
Did anybody else notice that when the teenage mind wiper showed up, he was wearing a necklace in the shape of Jessica's tattoo?
-
Seriously, I thought he did a good job. He has a certain level of smugness that works. What was he doing shooting at the A-Bomb?
-
But Linderman was just introduced in this episode.....
Eric Roberts is Linderman. I can just about guarantee it. Just watched the ep again for good measure... Enjoyable TV..
have you noticed that TV is getting progressively better than film lately?, in terms of writing, direction, acting, casting I mean even the effects on Heroes is top notch (taking into account the limitations of a non-"blockbuster hollywood movie" budget).. TV better in every facet, moreso than most movies these days. They can do more in 45 minutes of run time than most movies can do with 2 hours worth?... oh well... that's what I think anyway... for what its worth.. *BAMF* -
Malcolm Macdowell has been cast as Linderman.
-
I truly hope Eric Roberts ISN'T Lindermann.... and that Lindermann is some kind of Dr. Claw type character who we never get to see... (OH YEAH.. I WENT AND PULLED OUT THE GADGET REFERENCES... HEAR MY NAME O'ISRAEL AND TREMBLE AT MY NERDINESS!)
-
What are you basing that on?... more internet rumours?. God knows that's what I'm basing MY Eric Roberts thingy on! he he ahhh blow me.
-
hahaha you'll eat your own face... man that would be something... I'd pay good money to see that. And yeah, McDowell as lindermann is infinitely cooler than Roberts, but hasn't McDowell been brought on as a cameo character helping Nathan Petrelli's campaign (*he sits.... twiddles his thumbs... waits for cries of tsk, tsk, tsk, for shame YOU NAIVE IGNORANT SLUT YOU!!*) I still stand by my Dr. Claw comment... I don't really wanna see Lindermann. I want him to be fucking Keyser Soze... and not the gay limping guy, the guy who pulls all the strings... the guy who plays everyone... I'd prefer that.... but Malcolm McDowell is a fine choice (if its true)
-
It has been rumored that Simone has a phoenix like power (the bird not Jean Grey) in that she can rise from the dead after 24 hours. Nothing solid on this just speculation.
Maulrat the news that McDowell is playing Linderman has been around for weeks. On this site and many others including Variety and several reputable news outlets. Plus that was him in the preview, bacci. Although I do not think he will be in next weeks episode for long. See face, cut to credits, wait 4 weeks, then the fun begins
-
When HRG told Mindwipe to "Go deep" I was under the impression that Claire would be completely erased from his mind because if Mindwipe double crossed him, wouldn't he take everything away to cover their tracks? And wouldn't Mr. Brightside assume this to be the case becasue they already planted the seed that Midewipe was Claire's cover? If Villian!HRG is sent after Claire with Parkman as his sidekick, couldn't Parkman be a sleeper agent playing both sides? Or perhaps Parkman won't be a sidekick at all. We don't know what was happening to him on that table. Plus if HRG's midewipe is sucessful, he might not even remember that him and Parkman were even helping each other beforehand. Heroes writing isn't anthing spectacular, it's pretty straight forward really - even though they are trying to push it as quippy and sig worthy "Save the.." as an example - emotionally Claire's character has left Xanderland and is pushing into Willow and Buffy territory for me. Run away, Claire! Run, run!!Ï
-
I continue to expect at somepoint that there will be a large group of villians who will go against the heros-which will be the arc of future seasons. And it will all take place in a post apocolyptic world, or at least a world where the bomb did go off and everything has changed. It brings people with super powers out of the woodworks.
Or better yet, other groups have been recruiting people with super power for their own purposes..
anyone else notice the increasing religious references? The mom? The Hatian possibly?
Right now we don't really have bad guys except for Sylar. The A Bomb is pissed his wife is dead. Wireless (if you read her online novel) is pissed because her mom/grandma blew up, etc. -
People keep saying they are good, but only if you take into account this is a TV show. Wrong. The effects on this show are good, no matter what. Tonight, on what was one of the FX heaviest episodes yet, i didn't once get pulled out of the moment by them. Even the best blockbuster movies can't say that. Heroes goes for subtle, but perfect when it comes to CG or makeup. And Speaking of effects, they seem to be doing what i hoped, slowly ramping them up, until hopefully we get a massive fuck-off shiny sequence of death and powers in the last episode. And that's a beautiful thing.
-
" I'm not gonna nuke the dog, Matt"
-
As I have always maintained, Eric Roberts rocks and the current production team of *Doctor Who* should stand up and take notice of the man and ask him to return to the role of The Master, but this time being written better for Roberts' talents. The *Heroes* producers are obviously fans of Who, because we now have Eccleston (Claude, formerly the 9th Doctor of *Doctor Who*) on-screen at the same time with Roberts (formerly The Master). Even better, they linked *Doctor Who* with *Star Trek* by having Eccleston and Roberts be in a pivotal scene with George Takai's character. Brilliant!
-
Does anybody know when they're going to post the new episode online!? I'm dieing to see it!!!!!!!
-
She made one hell of a lesbian ghost on *Hex* so I know for sure she'd make a great super-powered heroine or villainess. And just imagine the geek-out if a rival of Claude's were portrayed by Paul McGann. Heh.
-
Do you guys know if they post it the night of or a couple days afterward? Also does anyone know of another site that would have it? Seriously, any help would be fucking fantastic!! If not, no big deal, I guess I can wait a couple days... Argh!!
-
Tossed Salad Man. That would be bad. This is a response to chrth's naming of Roberts' character.
-
One of the best hours of TV this year. On par with the Lost episode "Flashes Before Your Eyes". Heroes just keeps getting better and better. Oh, and to those who say it ripped X3... FUCK X3. Fuck it hard.
-
Wasn't Wireless with Matt and Ted when they raided the Bennet household? I could have sworn it was all three of them going after him and yet she was not anywhere around at all this week...
-
Most of the episode was terrific ... until the last couple of minutes when the writers clearly didn't have a clue what they were doing. As has been pointed out, everyone but Claire should be dying/dead of radiation poisoning. We KNOW the guy emits radiation even when calm. That's how he was found. Yet going critical he doesn't?! And how did Matt and he wind up back at the paper plant? The Haitian wasn't there, and LOTS of witnesses to see them if they were being kidnapped. Made NO sense at ALL.
-
I agree though that eric roberts (who needs a nickname when you're a doofy 80's actor with a facelift and a semi-cereer boost? he's eric fucking roberts...) came out of nowhere. shot and angered a guy that's nucluear (dumb da dumb dumb) and then stood and smiled as a crowd of people witnessed the powers of the daughter of a guy in his super secret organization. hello?now, if Hiro has powers, doesn't that mean Takei has powers as well? either that, or he is not really the father.we know that 2 people with powers having a kid, means s/he will have powers for sure. sometimes just one parent w/ powers will do it (nathan and peter's mom only seems to have the power of nasty neck and bad advice). sometimes a hero seems to have no parents with powers (nikki's father had the power of booze) and sometimes hero siblings have no power (hiro's sister). is there a consistent theme, or are they leaving it up for grabs, so they have more flexibility in the writing?so many questions!! and the black donnellys was not horrendous, just kinda boring and drawn out. "it's raining again" no shit? right when you're facing a difficult decision? what are the odds? thank you Haggis! when they showed the 8 year old kid that had somehow stolen a car and was driving down a street full of other kids, I laughed out loud at the absurdity.
-
That everyone is gonna get sick from Ted, but people can deal with a lot of radiation and not have any immediate side effects. He didn't know how to control it at first, and that's why his wife got so sick so fast. Or, maybe hot nurse cures them somehow. Or maybe they just ignore it. It is, after all, a show about people who can stop time and fly and whatnot. I don't know. Maybe suspend a bit of that disbelief for a minute there. Shit.
-
Basic (If there is such a thing) nuclear physics - there are NUMEROUS types of radiation - from visible spectrum to x-ray, gamma radiation, cosmic rays, Alpha particles - some of which are immediately damaging to human tissue - some cause DNA damage and delayed problems, and some only generate great heat output. Bombs generate all kinds at once - thus many types of badness. TED is making controlled - small reactions - could easily generate only heat (infrared) or visible spectrum radiation - depending on what type of reaction he is producing (Yes - I know his wife got cancer - I would assume he produces different types of Rads at different times) So DROP IT WITH THE RADIATION BITCHING ALREADY...and why are you griping about it being unrealistic - thats the point of the whole freaking show.Boogie
-
After tonights ep, a lot of people seem sold on Jack Coleman. Two geek facts I like about him: apparently a direct decendent of ben Franklin, and married to Tasha Yar's sister (Beth Youssaint, that is).
-
A child molester - read the online graphic novle - fills in a lot of little time-holes and character holes
-
this will all come back to the Human Genome Project. Someone figured out through the project the genetic marker that allows for the powers. HRGs' group is playing tag and release with the subjects from the project and they are killing them if they become too powerful or go out of control. Linderman may be the Big Boss behind the whole thing. Simones' father was probably a player in the "Company" but was the one 'buried' by Claude. The idea of two seperate factions formed over 'Heroes rights' is intriguing to say the least. So can we assume that registration and sentinel stories are on the way as well?
-
I haven't seen the ep yet, but Ted's ability to hone his powers in order to produce thermal radiation (IR, visible, some UV) instead of a mixed bag of thermal and ionizing (cancer-making) radiation is totally in keeping with the show. Remember Peter? Remember Sylar? Hearing Chick? They all learned to control their powers to a large degree. HRG and Parkman won't have cancer.
-
Linderman should be played by Tom Arnold, Jim Belushi, or Roddy Piper.
-
First Ted was shot. I imagine the sheer pain didn't help him cincentrate on controling his power. Second it set off a chain reaction, Parkman or Jack yell that in passing just before Eric Roberts shoots. Do you really think he was controlling the chain reaction? The evidence in the room proves radiation. Deadly cancer causing radiation. Even the burn on Jacks arm and Claires exit showed that.
-
Ya'll know eventually they will get around to Claires first love episodes. Definitely all sickly sweet and gushy sappy material.
Real terror in the waiting. -
...too bad Sci-Fi isn't rerunning them on Fri so I can record it and watch it again. Jack Coleman and Bryan Fuller FTW. In sharp contrast, 24 laid an egg and may be starting its death spiral. The end is in sight. With so many new revelations, there's the danger that they won't end up fully cooked and end up being an incoherent mess (a trap that some ABC show has fallen into), but I'm somewhat confident the producers will be able to avoid that.
-
Yeah, same here - there may even have been some tearing up at the end, unless there was something in my eye...
-
I'm presuming the 'cops' took Ted back there and Matt went voluntarily. Remember: Lyle called 911. I bet HRG has it set that any 911 calls from his family's phones go to the Company, you know, in case something like this happens.
-
It was a bit weird. HRG looked like he was surprised every time the gun went off. He did shoot him on purpose, right? Or did I miss something about that whole thing?
-
chrth - I would agree that HRG must have any 911 calls monitored so that the company is on top of any potential situation. Now I missed it, but how did Eric Roberts know to be there?
-
Yep, there was definitely something fishy going on here, HRG looked surprised alright after each shot - who's got telekinesis then?
-
I do not think that anything fishy was going on. HRG was just surprised that he actually had it in him to pull the trigger on a 'friend'. Once he fired the first shot he had to finish the job. Those two will meet again to settle the score.
-
I think HRG's surprise was more of a 'I can't believe it's come to this' surprise.
-
Its called "Cipro" or "Cipacro" or something like that. My step dad is a pharmacist and thats the conclusion we came up with. So fuck all your bitching about it be un-realistic. All you gots to do is pop some pills.
-
1) I've wondered why the Haitian left Parkman's memory of the bar (where they 'met') intact. I think he did it on purpose.
2) Maybe Ted is right, and it is the League of Neutral/Pulp Faction's fault. Before they abducted him, he was only giving out low dosages, but afterwards, he's gone nuc-u-lar. They gave him a radioactive tracking isotope, maybe that triggered him up a level of danger. That, or the psychological effects of the abduction.
3) Next week's episode: "Like Any Parasite" ... now, I'm not sure if Ted is involved, but if he is, is anyone else thinking Kingdom Come?
4) I think Nathan Petrelli is the one who dies. -
That's why I think Parkman went back with HRG to Company HQ.
-
having just one story instead of hopping all over the place and barely moving things forward was a great idea and something they should do more of, but the amount of commercial breaks they are cramming into each episode almost ruins the viewing experience. I might just give up and wait for the DVD
-
do you think Claire ever finds out that he's her biological father? It probably matters little to her now after what just transpired with HRG. What a great 'turning' episode with him. Granted, he'll end up 'turning' back due to the mindwipe, but shit if that wasn't some good stuff. It really added some depth and complexity that just wasn't there before. I'll be curious to see what happens to Matt since I like his character. Will the company use him as a 'hound' to sniff other people's thoughts?
-
1) "Radiation" is "the process of emitting energy in the form of waves or particles." (Wikipedia). Not all radiation is of the form that can induce cancer or radiation sickness. It's never defined exactly what forms of radiation and/or what properties he may or may not be able to control.
2) Just because two parents have a power, doesn't mean the child will. Go back and study 8th grade genetics.

how about for those of us who had trouble with math?
by just pillow talk
Can ya help a brother out?
-
The one thing that DOES bother me in the show is that Nicki/DL and Nathan/Firestarter both pro-created. So far there have been some 36 (?) people world-wide identified, so we're talking about (lets just say this is in the US) a one in 8.3 million. The odds that any person with powers just 'coincidentally' knowing somebody with powers also is enormous, much less that they would end up having a child together. Related pairs (nathan, peter, claire) I can understand and unrelated pairs with a common bond (e.g. peter and isaac via Simone's dad who had been engaged in the 'organization' and may have been aware of them both). But how do you explain Nathan just happening to hook up with firestarter 14-15 years ago? Unless maybe they both knew each other from "the organization", maybe they met when they were being studied. Also DL/Jessica, what are the odds they just happened to end up together? Unless it's later explained that people with 'gifts' are somehow attracted to each other or that dl/jessica met via linderman who somehow knew both had abilities.
-
Linderman is played by Donald Sutherland. We'll meet the character next week.
-
Nice editing feature on this talk back.
-
Is this a rip from the Stephen King novel? In the book (and it's been many years since I read it), the parents were 'gifted' after being given a substance. Both hid their abilities and produced a child that could start fires that was later chased by the organization. Is the fact that her mother's powers are the ability to start fires a knowing homage to the King book? Since the stories are vaguelly similar if Nathan and Firestarter met via the organization and produced Claire, but then had to escape from the organization.
-
Does the talkback have an editing featur enow, or were you being sarcastic?
-
none of what you just mentioned is coincidence. The company is behind all of it.

Radiation poisoning is not deadly if treated quickly and if the exposure is not severe. Since we can't begin to guess how much radiation Ted was generating at the time, and how it affected each person (we do not see what treatment they may have received) there is no way to say if anyone should have died.
-
Ted was killing all plant life in a fairly large area at his wifes grave. he was semi in control then. Do you think he was more in controll after being shot and already having a kill us all mindset?
Ted was generating a shit load of radiation. -
When Claires mom called Nathan she asked if he remembered her. Sounds like a one night stand thing.
Of course the Petrelli's are involved with Linderman who may be involved in the organization.
As far as connecting the dots between the gifted, if we assume they all were found only according to the information given the human genome project that means there are many more who have had no contact with the project.
So far we see heroes not really getting along. Claude/Peter had issues, Nikki/DL she robbed and tried to kill him, Peter/Isaac violent fight Parkman/Ted obviously Parkman never fully trusted Ted and one could sense animosity Eden/Sylar we all know what happened there and Sylar who hunts them down. It looks as if the Haitian is the only one who can function for long periods with the others. Maybe it's a highlander thing where they can only function together for a short time.
As far as who dies, it has to be someone NOT in Peters vision. Haitian maybe, or Ted. -
At his wife's grave I'm not sure if he really was in control...perhaps a controlled rage since he was rather angry and promising his wife he'd get back at them if I'm not mistaken. But you're right, he had to be generating a lot of some type of radiation after being shot. He wasn't in his happy place. The one night stand between Nathan and firestarter had to be setup by the company unless they are in fact drawn to each other (those with powers like was mentioned above).

I'm in the UK and it's got to the point where i am counting down the percentage on my bittorrent client. I get my cup of coffee and a spliff ready and soon as it arrives it is fired up. Truly up there with 'Seven Minutes To Midnight' as the best episode so far. Please stop mentioning X-Men as Heroes makes it look like peurile rubbish in comparison. Face the facts - 'Heroes' is the best treat for SF geeks since the arrival of 'Star Wars' in '77.
-
Radiation Poisoning is kind of a tricky thing. It would depend on the type and intensity of the radiation Ted was putting off, also the areas of the body affected. Certain organs of the body are much more vulnerable to radiation then others. Once you are exposed there it not really much you can do other then hope you haven't suffered enough cell damage that you would die immediately. Even if you do survive in initial exposure there is always the long term effects down the road. The only medicine that I know of that can help is Potassium Iodide, which can prevent damage to your thyroid if giving early enough. I know the the government keep a stockpile of it for federal workers. In a earlier episode though it was established that Ted was giving off deadly amounts. I guess if you wanted a way out in terms of everyone being poisoned in the house you could say Ted had gained more control over his powers since we had last saw him and would giving off more thermal radiation then the more deadly beta or gamma types.
-
Seriously, the guy can act, and I totally forget he was Sulu or Howard Stern's announcer when he's on screen. I hope he remains a frequent guest star. And I agree with everyone, last night's show was the best yet.
-
it would have sucked if it had melted like everything else in the room.
-
OMG, that episode was so excellent, so intense, so layered. Awesome acting! Oh, the humanity+actual use of powers lots of times. Definitely the best drama on TV, and I'd even say this show is better than any movie I've seen in months, or longer! Top-notch!
-
...where he became human and enjoyed a day with Buffy and then rolled the clock back at the end and erased everybody's memory of it except his own...
-
and you will enjoy the episodes more. It was an ACME needle. Do I need to explain more?
-
Remember, the 36 are only those Chandra Suresh found through the Human Genome Project. Obviously there are more than 36 are out there, because not everyone in the world donated blood for the project.
Also: " Just because two parents have a power, doesn't mean the child will. Go back and study 8th grade genetics." So just because the two parents have eyes, doesn't mean the child will have eyes? We're talking about an evolutionary shift with the powers here. This isn't eye color or blood type we're talking about. I recommend studying high school biology. -
Interesting insight on HRG guys organization. It appears to not be just a US project but a worldwide one. Also it seems to as much about controlling the mutants(can we start calling them that yet?) as studying them. Parallels with Heroes and X-Men continue to grow. Who was Claude protecting? Just what did the Haitian erase from HRG guy, will this change his behavior in any way. Will Matt final hit rock bottom and go to work for the very organization that has ruined his life. If he does will that make him HRG guy's new partner now that Haitian guy is on the run with Claire? Where the hell is there a valley that deep in Texas for that bridge, I thought Texas was pretty much flat as a board. Anyway, great episode and I am looking froward to next week.
-
I don't think he'll lose everything. I'm sure the Haitian will just take out everything from him getting in the car with Claire to getting shot on the bridge. Also remember from the graphic novel that the Haitian can leave emotion behind ("leave the guilt"), so I doubt HRG will lose the tender moment on the bridge.
-
Does anyone else find it odd that they brought Claire all the way from Texas to New York if she was just going to go back to Texas? Seems like a waste of travelling to me. Or does the Company try to get as many frequent flier miles as they can?
-
Made up of Claire, her mom, Hana Gitelman, that Nurse and Niki/Jessica. And me. Guess what my super power would be ? Hint: It would be like I had Pinnochio in a leg lock, and he just kept lyin' and lyin'.
-
can someone explain how he apparently survived three point blank shots to the chest ? And why he would go back to the Deveaux building to hang out ?
-
Claude knew it was coming, maybe he had some kind of protection ready? Like a bullet-proof vest that had fake blood packets? Also, he probably thought the Deveaux building was a good place to keep an eye on the League of Neutral/Pulp Faction.
-

I would think the tender moment on the bridge had to be
by just pillow talk
wiped. Like it never happened. I would think that would leave the door open for a slip-up by HRG in the future if the company realized his emotional investment into Claire. They expect him to be a cold hearted bastard.
-
but not the emotion. He wouldn't remember what happened, but he would remember the emotion expressed by Claire. Again, I'm going off the graphic novel, so I think it's feasible.
-
was to his shoulder area. Not sure about the second, though I don't think he took a 'kill' shot.
-
If I remember correctly, the son said he made the 911 call from a neighbors house, so unless the entire neighborhood is on that "company" network, I don't think the fake police were involved. This definitely was one of the more focused and intense episodes yet, so I can't wait for more.
-
Why then did Claire's mom flip out on Claire and said she didn't know her, yada-yada-yada...wouldn't she still have retained the emotional attachment to her daughter, and just emotionally 'knew' to trust her even if her mind was betraying her at that point? Or do you think that was something different?I gotta read those graphic novels then since I saw the blurb you are talking about in terms of leaving the emotion intact.
-
That's a different thing entirely; that's whatever is wrong with Claire's Mom's brain as a result of all the memory-plucking. She remembered her shortly thereafter.
-
The Company knows about it, unless he's concerned they'll drag it out of him. I don't see how they can remove that and remove everything else related to it. Although maybe they can?
-
Plant life dying from radiation is not a human dying from radiation. We can deal with high levels of radiation for a short period of time without dying.
-
I guess the only part the Haitian guy would have to wipe would be the part about HRG knowing about Claire's powers before everyone else, that and the escape plan. At this point Claire's adoptive mom and brother know about her powers. not sure if anyone else in the neighborhood saw Claire come out of the house and heal. So unless HRG's organization has another person that can wipe memories the cat is out of the bag on Claire's power. Also even with HRG's mind wipe, Matt still knows everything that HRG guy told him, so it will be interesting to see how the writers handle that.
-
HRG's knowledge about Claire's power and/or plans to get her into hiding. It had to be in formation for a while now, and he must have decided a number of years ago that he would do everything in his power to protect her. Perhaps that is why they showed him trying on glasses/letting Claire know for the first time he wasn't her biological dad. Her reaction may have cemented his decision to not let the company get her.
-
Everyone agrees that th FF2 comm looked great but did anyone notice it has been pushed back to june?
Transformers gotta eat!! -
So who knows if he'll remember what happened between he and HRG. And did the Haitian wipe that out as well with HRG?
-
I wonder....if Claire's a virgin, and she regenerates any injuries. does this mean she'll be a virgin forever?
-
Star-80....you're all welcome.
-
I knew save the cheerleader save the world meant saving HRGs heart. He never would have turned on the company if Claire had been killed by Sylar. So, now we have someone on the inside, and he is powerful! Matt is going to rock! HS Hiro's dad is one of them. Does this mean he is going to turn on his son? Is this why he was adamant that Hiro come back and work in the company? How can I be so excited about a TV show? I cried like a baby at the end. I know you all did too.
-
the Claire's Hymen thing has been talked to death. Of course now it's cooked hymen. Tasty!
-
Who's to say one of the people at the house isn't a radiation dampener.... or as somebody said Clair may be able to heal others. Or -- mentally challenged brother may be a Freak too, and he could have been unknowingly keeping Ted from supernova the whole time. We didn't learn everything from this episode... I'm sure there are more surprises up the writers sleves.
-
On tonights episode of "Misfits of Science"
-
I can't believe how much they gave away. I'll never watch a preview for this show again.
-
Can Claire feel pain or not? Even Wolverine can feel the pain he is being put through. I would have to assume that Claire does too, in which case there is NO WAY she could have gotten close enough to geico man to inject the tranquilizer.
If Claire doesn't feel pain, does that mean she has no physical feelings at all? I think in earlier episodes she may have felt it, but I don't remember for sure. Does anyone know? -
...(and that's not a joke about nuclear man). The pacing was spot-on and the story answered just enough while setting up yet more intrigue. I have to say, Heroes has it all over lost and, possibly, even BSG in the plotting department. That said, much of the dialogue was still laughably bad and at least half the cast made it even worse through their deliveries. HRG was a notable exception (didn't suspect that actor had a range, much less that kind of) and fat mind-reading cop didn't grate on me as much as he typically does. Also, I don't think Claire's hair went anywhere during her struggle with Ted. We rewound and watched that segment twice because my wife asked immediately how her hair would've come out of that looking pretty much exactly as it had before but darker. If there was a scene of her bald, we missed it both times. I do hope there are some radiation related ramifications for all involved, as well. Maybe HRG can develop some powers now? He was already sterile, apparently, so that's not a concern. Anyway, good TV. I'd put it up there with the majority of Lost's first season eppys and BSG's better second season offerings. Three-and-a-half of four stars, maybe. But I'm a tough grader.

Nice "Near Dark" moment when Claire spit out the bullet.
-
Didn't catch my typo quick enough, apparently.
-
Claire is Yum-my. Plus she could protect your wimpy nerd ass from muggers and bullies.
-
Jack told the Haitian to go deep and get anything that might aid in the search. Peter is gone. The whole save the cheerleader save the world thing Parkman said out loud is gone.
Jack set Parkman up to use in the future when he told him to listen to what he thinks. Saw that one coming a mile away.
No one mentioned this but if there is a human recruiting agency for Jacks organization there is also a mutant one. Remember they work together, so someone must be vetting them as operatives. Who else but other mutants. Which means Simones daddy and Sulu may have powers and Eric Roberts doesn't ( well he could) -
Just how would Claire protect people from muggers and bullies, by dying? getting stabbed until someones arm tires?
-
What I was referring to was evolutionary distinction between species. If two Homo Sapiens* have a child, it will never be a Homo Erectus, always a Homo Sapiens. If Chandra Suresh is to be believed, then the Heroes are a separate species from Homo Sapiens. We could, for example, call them Homo Sapiens Superior (as they do in Marvel Comics). Thus, just as we wouldn't expect two Homo Sapiens to give birth to a Homo Erectus, we wouldn't expect two Homo Sapiens Superior to give birth to Homo Sapiens.
In reality, we're not talking about genetic traits; we're talking about the base genetic makeup of a species.
Now, if Homo Sapiens and Homo Sapiens Superior get together and have a child, it's feasible that the child will be Homo Sapiens, not Superior. I guess we'll find out based on Nathan's kids with his wife (I like how I had to make that distinction).
*Yes, the correct term is Homo Sapiens Sapiens. I just didn't feel like typing that out every time. -
I don't think she does. When she took the cupcakes out of the oven (and burned her hands), I would've expected her to drop the cupcake tin if she felt pain.

Prey covered the fact that something like a %3 change in DNA would make a totally different race.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominants
The Dominants or Homo Dominants are a fictional splinter group of humanity that appear in the short-lived science fiction television series Prey.
In the series, bioanthropologist Dr. Sloan Parker discovers that a serial killer's DNA does not match that present within Homo sapiens and learns that there is a new breed of humanity present in the world. This new breed of humans, later classified as "Homo dominant", are attempting to compete with humans and drive them to extinction just as Homo sapiens did to the Neanderthals.
The Dominants are known to be smarter and more aggressive compared to regular humans who use any tactic to secure their survival. They are idealogically convinced that, as the superior form of life, they must dominate their environment and all other forms of competition through any means necessary. This aggression seems a near instinctual genetic characteristic as seen when a young Dominant child attacks three older as well as larger human children and on another occasion the introduction of Dominant DNA into a monkey showed the monkey being aggressive as well as killing the other monkeys within the cage. Furthermore, evolution in mental abilities does seem to be present as a Dominant child demonstrated the ability to cloud the minds of others. It was stated by Tom Daniels, a Dominant posing as an FBI agent, that they have the ability to 'sense the emotions' of others which suggests that they may be partial empaths. However, in order to execute their belief in destroying Homo sapiens, the race has somewhat learnt to suppress their emotions as they do not wish to empathize with the species they are dominating. Finally, a mummified remains of a Dominant girl showed that she possessed four uteruses.
It was speculated that global warming and other environmental conditions led to a speciation within humanity and that there were 200,000 members of this new branch of Humanity living in a 'shadow society' among humans who were near blissfully unaware of the threat posed by them. Their point of origin, referred to as their version of 'Eden', was a deserted village in Mexico which was a sacred location for their kind. It was also the location of a mysterious pillar with arcane writings on its surface.
It is interesting to note that there are groups of humans who are aware of the Dominants and collaborate with them in their attempts. Similarly, there are groups of Dominants who wish to co-exist with their sibling species. It also seems that as part of their infiltration techniques, the Dominants suppress the memory of their own agents to avoid compromises in their security should the agent be captured.
Technologically, the Dominants made use of genetic engineering in an attempt to 'convert' the more numerous humans into more Dominants. They also made use of both cloning as well as nanites in order to achieve their goals. They have also been noted to use extensive brain washing techniques on individuals. -
Not if there is a layer of dead nerves just above what gets healed.
The real question is why she didn't slough off the dead skin?
She instead healed all her damaged tissue.
Which seems impossible. How does she regenerate dead skin? That would mean she would never have dandruff or when her hair gets cut it immediately becomes the same length again and no dead skin cells to remove so no need for facial treatments. -
Would tissue removed from Claire grow into a second Claire? No matter how small down to a single cell.
-
We also need to remember we're not talking about Unbreakable here, where a 'normal' human has superhuman powers. It is the fact that the Heroes have powers which distinguishes them from normal humans.
-
Remember, her power is controlled by her brain, so only the part which has her brain would regenerate.
-
would she regenerate a new one or would it fuse back to her body like T100? If she grew a new arm, would the old arm grow a new body?
-
I stopped watching them after they revealed DL had powers before we even met him. They showed him phasing, and stuff that only happened in the last few moments of that episode. So yeah, I nolonger needed the previews to tell me to watch next week.
-
I would imagine the quickest way for her to heal would be to put the arm back and let it rejoin. Not sure how long it would take to grow a new arm from scratch (if she can even do that; I don't think we have evidence that she can spontaneously generate all components necessary to do so). Obviously, since her arm doesn't have a brain, it would not create a new body.
-
Does Mr. Bennet sell Dunder MIfflin paper?
-
Claire's hand and a foot, and swap them? Would her foot re-attach to her arm and would the hand re-attach to her leg?
-
Cell division doesn't require a brain otherwise children would never be born or eggs hatch.
-
Remember the branch? And what Chandra said (and Sylar knows)? Just like Zombies, the Heroes' powers require BRAINS.
-
My guess is that they would not because the pieces do not line up perfectly. I suspect the swapped pieces would be rejected.
Although the brachiating potential could be huge ... -
Other pwers would require a brain because they are variations, flying and telekinesis are nearly the same. Invisibility, radiation and firestarting involve various aspects of handling spectrum.
But Claires involves regeneration at the cellular level. That is something done automatically by the body.
Unless Claire is actually using a totally different power. That would explain why she doesn't slough off dead skin. That would make her very close to Golden Boy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Boy_(Wild_Cards)
Golden Boy is a character from the Wild Cards series of books. He is regarded, in the series, as possibly the strongest man in the world. His force field, which has a golden glow when active, grants him immunity from virtually anything. He is especially resistant to physical impacts, such as bullets and fists. Golden Boy does not age, and looks to be 22, despite being born in 1924. He was part of an organization called "The Four Aces" during the 1950's. Later, Golden Boy was forced to betray his colleagues to HUAC (the House Un-American Activities Committee), which earned him the nickname "Judas Ace."
She may even have her own version of the field but at another wave lenght. -
Like someone said already, he has a conscience, and God. We are witnessing the birth of the "company's" opposing force. It hasn't been organized yet. Lost should take a leaf out of their book. We recieved big answers to big questions, ones we the fans have been asking, and they created even more questions for us.
-
Just where Clair is. So they can't get the information from him. Its the only way to really protect her.
-
"Go long hard & deep..." the only way Star80(tm) would believe that HRG wasn't in on Claire escaping would be if he were shot AND raped by a Haitian.
-
1. There must be something in the current human environment that is capable of causing a specific mutation in DNA rather than a random mutation.
2. This mutation is not in a gene that codes for a directionally functional protein but in a protein that is itself involved in DNA regulation. This leads to wholesale rearrangement of DNA--in effect, many other mutations in functional proteins. (There are indeed proteins whose job it is to suppress potential mutations that have accumulated in DNA.)
3. It's hard to conceieve of a mechanism that would guarentee that this wholesale DNA rearrangement would not be damaging rather than produce a superpower. There are therefore probably many many miscarriages of potential heroes for every viable fetus.
4. What constitutes a "species" is one of the biggest debates in evolutionary biology. However, if Chandra Suresh believed the heroes are a new species, that would suggest he believed that their offspring are always heroes, i.e., the set of mutations, taken as a whole, is effectively dominant.
5. The child of a hero and a normal, or of two heroes, would get a mixture of (dominant) mutated and normal functional proteins. This would lead (in the very loose logic used so far!) to their having different powers from their parents. However, to play fair, ther should be some logical connection between the powers of parent and child. Claire's Mom needs a genetic sub-system to protect herself from the fires she start and Nathan needs a genetic sub-system to protect his body from the rigors of flight. That their child would have the power of indestructibility makes perfect sense within this loose logic. I'm not sure if other combinations work as well (Nicki / D.L. / Micah, e.g.). -
For all the Heros lovers/Lost Haters that always say that Lost is totally making it up as they go, at least they don't make clear mistakes and forget about them like Heros. I hate the "exposition" parts of any of these shows, but it was like episode 2/3 or somewhere thereabouts that HRG's pic came on in the preview or recap show with Mohinder I believe. The voice over said "...The Face Of EVIL...". They never mentioned HRG being a true bad guy again. It was internal editoralizing and a glaring mistake now since last night they said he works in some very "gray areas".
Note to all networks -- DON'T EDITORALIZE YOUR RECAPS/PREVIEWS (lost haters will really agree with me after last weeks 3 biggest answers). It just sets you up for failure! -
...to pick from among the many flaws in dialogue that have plagued this show since its introduction. Mohinder is not omniscient, nor is his narrator necessarily 100% reliable. He's looking at things through the eys of his character as he understands things at that moment in the show's progression. He's not looking back with the knowledge of events that have transpired already and he's not looking forward with foreknowledge of what the wrtiers have in store for the character. The mistake you're making is in assuming his voice (the narrator's voice) to be the voice of the writer and not the voice of the character. On an unrelated subject: I love htat you've given the genetics that much thought, emvan, as the wife and I were having a discussion very much along those lines in an attempt to figure out why the Petrelli brothers' powers were so different and where MIcah's ATM power came from (like you, we presumed Claire's power had soemthing to do with protection from fire and your thoughts on Nathan's contribution are intriguing). Might Micah's power be a natural progression of the idea of problem solving? Jessica/Nikki uses brute force to destroy obstacles. D.L. dad actually goes through those obstacles. Micah figures out how they work and makes them do what he wants. Just a thought.
-
When Claire took a branch through her brain, she wasn't able to regenerate until *after* the branch was removed. That right there indicates that her brain is the key to her power. This is also why Sylar removes the brains of his victim: someone could conceivably gain the powers by looking at just the brain. By removing/destroying the brain, Sylar is making sure no one else gains the powers but him.
-
I was just stating that it's okay to make it up as you go. You can only pre-plan so much. But for the HeroLovefest/LostHaterz, it's one of their biggest arguements. It isn't a bad thing, just pointing out Heros does it too...unless.... I just really hate the "this is how you should feel about this character, even if you don't really feel this way". Maybe it isn't making it up as they go like lost. Maybe it's trying to hard for the WHOA factor. They got the WHOA factor 3-4 times from me last night W/O forcing it. Maybe they are giving their audience more credit than they used to? The face of evil comment still irks me, especially when right after that they make sure he only does "really nice" after that to try to confuse you. I just hope Heros doesn't start Pandering like Lost and 24 have been would not be good. PLEASE Don't turn this into Smallville!
-
Simone. He still has some connection to her father's building because he goes there to feed the birds.
-
...or I could be wrong...
-
Remember, that was NBC's marketing department. That wasn't Mohinder or anybody else saying it. That's why we've been calling them the League of Neutral/Pulp Faction, because it isn't immediately obvious what their motives are. Still isn't, honestly.
-
http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2007-02-19-heroes-cypress_x.htm (remove spaces) ... unless the entire article was created to confuse us, but I doubt it.
-
since she's dead and all. And I gotta agree that the Haitian and Claire must be start of a "Justice League" type of heroes banding together.
-
I'm not sure how much memory of Claire HRG is going to have. "Go deep" makes me think the Haitian is taking out more than just driving Claire to the bridge. If they need to clear his mind of that, they also have to clear it of any knowledge of her powers, lest Star80 find out. I took the scene to be HRG not only giving his daughter up physically, but in his mind as well, which is doubly tough. Plus, as it appeared his affection for her tempered his work from making him a true Big Bad, maybe with his mind cleared there is nothing left to hold him back.
-
...atomic bomb" is threatening to go off in my house, what geniuses want to stand on the front lawn with me and watch? Anyone? Anyone?
-
Damn! Who can it be? Peter? There has to be some connection between Papa Petrelli and Primatech.
-
I can imagine Fuller giving Sulu the most badass power of them all yet......
-
Somewhere to study her? Do they tag and release some and 'contain' others?
-
and monitor their growth in power and how it can be handled in the 'real' world. One would think this would present certain risks that would be hard to control. What would have happened if Claire was not there to stick the ACME needle into Ted?
-
We have the Pulp Faction, headed by Mr. Brightside. They seem to be a Human organization (I suspect both Mr. Brightside and Sulu are sans powers) whose goal is to track/study the Heroes.
We have Linderman (aka Linchpin) who is currently a giant question mark. This section will hopefully get more info next week.
We have Chandra Suresh, who seems to have stumbled upon the Heroes phenomenon purely by accident (vis-a-vis his daughter). His goal appears to have been just to contact the Heroes, to possibly study them benignly. Of course, he's dead now.
Mohinder *may* be continuing Chandra's work, although I'm wondering if his exposure to Sylar is leading him to forming a Heroes Justice League (which Chandra did not seem to give any indication about). If so, then I see the Haitian and Claire as joining with Mohinder at some point; if not, they'll start the group on their own, I reckon. -
went to Vegas to get the head cheese. She caught a child porn guy instead, and saved a teenage girl from making a big mistake. Aren't you people reading the comic on nbc.com that goes along with each episode? Sheesh
Just a suggestion, if you do go read it, just view the pdf file because I have DSL and it still takes forever to load each page. -
squashed by Sylar. The HJL will need him I think, he can fill the void of being the scientist/staying back at HQ being a liaison for the field teams type guy.I will do my best to read the graphic novels. I wasn't even aware there were any until chrth mentioned it before.
-
There is the chance that there could be several of these. There is still no clear cut good guy in this thing. Claire's angst still scares me. Peter flipped out next week. We see Ando again next week from the preview, so I guess he doesn't go home after all. Does he still kick it and drive Hiro Nutz?
-
I think Claire can gain focus from recent events and make a good founding member of the HJL.
-
How many secret alliances are there?
Claire/Hatian
Hiro/Nathan
Matt/Ted
Nathan/Nikki
Peter/EVERYBODY
I just thought it to be funny. Who are the 4 horsemen? -
I understand the brain thing. The problem is Claire is actually remaking dead cells instead of creating new cells to replace the dead ones.
It is like Claire is a living .par file rebuilding missing .rar pieces in a file.
Better yet Claire is a living field of some type. Or at least her brain holds a template of her body which she continually remakes. But NOT from new cells.
Hopefully someday they will explain just what she does. After the radiation thing they backed themselves into a corner. -
He learns to trim his sideburns straight.
-
one who laughs at others with normal looking sideburns. Laughs I tell you, laughs!Claire's brain is like the Surfer's board - it can be recreated with the power cosmic.
-
Claire walking out of the house as a radiation-charred corpse and healing as she returned to her family was frakkin' incredible! What a great episode...so many cool "holy crap" moments. This show just keeps getting better as it goes along. And the emotional payoff between Claire and her Dad and the rest of her family was fantastic, too. I can't wait for next week's show...

Not as good as last weeks that's for sure. You guys need to chill out a little. Aside from rippign off X3 completely and being predictable, what's going to happen next week when everyone should be balding, bloodshot, and dying of radiation poisoning. Oh that's right. They won't be because this is TV and who gives a fuck about realism. Lost is still better.
-
tear down Lost in order to praise Heroes. Heroes is getting better all the time, but Lost is still a far deeper, complicated, and ultimately more satisfying show. They can co-exist, though, so why all the fucking Lost hate every week?
-
Where they got snowed in and ate eric roberts in order to survive? "I've got some eric roberts in a doggy bag!!" I kept thinking about that ep while watching heroes last night.
-
When Claude got shot the first time it looked like Bennet didn't shoot him or that it was an accident. He had surprised look on his face. Can we chalk this up to first shooting jitters or is something else going on?
-
"It is like Claire is a living .par file rebuilding missing .rar pieces in a file." That was the nerdiest thing I've read all day. Awesome.
-
was pulling the trigger for HRG.
-
There of course is the mutant gene comparison, etc...but how does it compare to jamming a bunch of storylines into one movie with no exposition/character development/killing off main character for no reason?Nova, I forgot about that episode. I'm still laughing at that line...that should be his name: doggy bag. Gotta agree on your Lost/Heroes thing. I don't watch Lost, but I don't see the reason to compare the two. Or with BSG. 24 is a viable comparison since they go head to head. Something that bugs Stallone to no end.
-
Heroes is kind of cotton candy television. It's getting more complicated and stuff, but it's still pretty shallow. Also, I kind of wonder how long it can last... Once they conquer this nuke senario, will it just switch gears to them being superheroes? It will be decidedly less interesting when the overaching story has wrapped up.
-
I think 24 v heroes is the only comparison that can be made because of the time slot.
-
Just enjoy this season and how it's playing out. One thing the comic books can attest to: stories are limitless. Have faith.
-
Heroes so far has done a good job about wrapping up mysteries while creating new ones. Save the Cheerleader, Save the World didn't take all season (in fact, I was surprised it happened as soon as it did), characters have evolved (Parkman especially, Peter) at a satisfying rate, and even Nikki is tolerable when she's kicking ass as Jessica. They realized Simone was going nowhere so they killed her; they're killing somebody else next week. Oddly enough, the one track that seems to be spinning its wheels is Hiro's ... although hopefully next week will kick that into gear.
It is thus arguable by the Lost haters that while Lost continues to jerk around its viewers with mysteries from two seasons ago that are nowhere close to being answered--while adding new ones--Heroes has done a strong job of tying things up and moving on. -
the scene with claire takign out nuclear man while her healing helped her survive is DIRECTLY fro mthe end of X3 when Wolvie does it with rampaging Jean Grey. That's all I meant.
-
new characters can't just keep popping in from all over like the do on heroes. Hell, the lost writers have pretty much exhausted character sources. Heroes is not isolated on the island, thus there's a much larger pool to draw from.
Lost's biggest mysteries are it's most central, that's why they can't be solved until the story is wrapping up. Heroes has no real central mystery, and the nature of the concept is that they could concievably have this shady corporation be the villain for years to come. It's an obvious but accurate comparison; Heroes is akin to a comic book series, while lost is akin to a novel. Lost HAS to have an end point, and at that point (hopefully) everything will wrap up, finishing the story completely. Heroes could go on forever, same characters (and new ones), new adventures.
I happen to be partial to serial stories, which is why I like lost so much. Heroes might lose alot of it's appeal to me if, after it solves it's big crisis, it becomes just villain of the week, or even villain of the season, in subsequent years... but I'm not going to worry about it right now. -
Does anyone have any video footage links of her flashing the audience at the DGA Awards?
-
Do you think they'll ever do something in the nature of the Skrull War or Galactus? I'm wondering if they're just going to keep it down to Humans and Heroes.
-
Exhausted character resources? What are you talking about? they have all the other survivors from 815 and whatever else you can conjure with your imagination.
-
I think I figured out what the sign is. I haven't seen anyone else suggest this, but to me it looks like a half-strand of DNA.
-
...YES, we get it! There was a similarity with the Wolvie and Jean Grey and Claire and Nuclear Ted. You'll probably see some other similarities as the seasons of this show go on. Guess what? They're BOTH about superheroes, nutbags. Hey! Didja notice how Claude, rampaging throught a crowded New York street, was ripped off from The Invisable Man?! wow. Hey! Didja notice how Jessica emerges during stressful times for Nikki? Just like the Hulk, man! What a ripoff! Get over the comparisons. This is a great show and BTW (even with it's faults) so is Lost, you dickwads.
-
way to jump into the TB and pose 2 questions (radiation, hrg's accidental? shot) that have already been discussed to death.and anyone arguing Lost over Heroes still, makes me chuckle a little bit, before shaking my head and taking a sip of my coffee. lost is going the way of the dodo. getting people hooked each week, so they keep coming back, even when everything deteriorates and their enjoyment spirals downwards... that's what a crack dealer does, brother...
-
...Sorry, but it totally did. They may have had the skin burning off sequence in X3, but it worked better in heroes because you gave a shit about what was happening. Besides, it's sort of a natural evolution of the healing power- to be used in a situation where a normal person would die. It's not like it's so totally hard to come up with.
-
Excuse me DICK. There's 400 posts on here. Granted it might because of people askign repeat questions but why don't you let me know what was discussed instead of being a sniveling little asshole. And biggles there's a difference between not being able to avoid similarities or scenarios derived from similar characters, and practically copying a scene from a movie.
-
Company Men had everything. The suprises (Sulu is in on it). The beef between Invisible Man and Paper guy. The emotion of having Paper guy forget Claire for her own safety. Great night for Heroes
-
But I just don't think they were purposely ripping off X3.
-
or you could...you know, read them yourself.mostly I just wanted to use my clever analogy for Lost.is anyone else surprised by now that paul haggis is not involved in Lost? it smells like his dung.
-
as good as Lost season 1, then you're the dodo!!! Sorry, couldn't resist. I mean, I like this show but come on now.
-
If they keep pulling characters out from the survivors, it's going to be kind of silly- look how everyone reacted to nikki and paolo! Besides, a chief complaint about lost is that there are too many characters as it is. You can't deny that Heroes has a much bigger pool to choose from, as well as a much wider canvas to use the characters on. They've got the entire globe.
-
Even if one accepts the rather thin explanation for people surviving radiation which was physically trashins a house(!), it still doesn't explain how the heck the ka-boom man and Matt wind up back under sedation at the paper factory. Uh, witnesses? Lots of them? Aware good guy(s) who wouldn't just meekly go along? Lack of the Haitian to make people forget what's happening? All of these make one wonder how things turned out as they did. Doesn't make sense. Linderman most of all wants a low profile kept on things. A little late for that. Add kidnapping in broad daylight before witnesses? Yeah, right.
-
I don't think YOU really think that the writers of this show watched X3 and said, "Oh yeah, I gotta do that scene except maybe with some emotion." I mean, really, there were better scenes from the X-Men series to rip off. The similarity is that she and Wolvie have the same healing ability (though I think Claires is a little more realistic). So please, don't be the TENTH person in a TB to post, "Oh my God, they totally ripped off that part in X-whatever when Wolverine got shot/stabbed/burned/blown-up!". Technically, Wolverine wasn't burned up in X-Men, he was disintegrating.
-
Why, the answer to that my friend is "Growing The Beard" - named so after the coincidental hike in quality of Star Trek: TNG episodes after Riker grew his.Heroes grew a big fucking beard tonight.
-
Rather than "MIND BULLETS!" maybe he can only, oh I dunno, produce farts which smell of exquisite sandalwood or something.Use your fucking imagination.

Sadly, Lost season 1 has been tainted by seasons 2 & 3
by useridgoeshere
Season 1 can't be judged in isolation because nothing was resolved and it doesn't stand on its own. You can't look back at season 1 in the same way at all after seeing seasons 2 and 3. Fortunately Heroes shouldn't have that problem because they will wrap up their main arc in the finale - Peter and Sylar will battle and the NYC bombing will be resolved one way or another.
-
is smart. you should all listen to him! heroes is gonna wrap up its central mysteries and go the 24 route every subsequent season. They won't go villain of the week but definately will go villain of the year. Which is FINE and will be great but Lost cannot do that because of many reasons that he listed so in that way Lost is very much more like a novel.
-
Why does a show being compared to a novel give it some kind of automatic credibility over that of its peers? I've read some pretty fucking awful novels in my time.
-
"Heroes grew a big fucking beard tonight" thank you for that bra.. I needed a good giggle...... you magnificent bastard you.
-
But I just finished watching HEROES online. I have to say, this was just an over the top episode, I don't even have words to describe how intense and awesome this episode is. THIS IS DAMN GOOD TV PEOPLE!!!
-
"THEY TRADED SMYTH" - Oilers tried to play Hard Ball and lost.... Looks like the Isles are trying to make a push for the finals..... NOW... back onto Heroes... You will always get the funnybook nerds on here drawing XMen/Fantastic 4/Insert random comic book icons here/Avengers parallels to this show.. which is a shame because I think it works without trying to compare it to anything else... including lost... because IMO its kicking lost's pastey overfed ass at the moment. 24 is also running second behind this show in my book (a close second mind you but still second).. but then, who knows what the seasons to follow will bring.. I may grow tired of this show Like I have with LOST.
-
Remember, Claire's powers didn't manifest until recently. Any injury she receives NOW has to heal itself, but I'm sure she got her ears pierced well before her healing abilities kicked in. If she tried to get a NEW piercing, it would likely be rejected. So, yes, for the sake of her future happiness, I hope she lost her hymen horseback riding or something in the past.
-
If she takes them out i bet they heal. As for being compared to a novel... It's not that it's compared to a novel that gives lost credibility. I think it's more than proven itself as great television over the course of it's run. As for seasons 2 and 3 tarnishing season 1, I disagree. I often find myself sort of blurring together seasons 1 and 2 because it's been a while since I've seen there. "Was that ep in season 1 or 2?" To me there was no real change in quality between them.
I think alot of people have such nostalgia for season 1 that it colors the other eps, which I think are as good, some even better. Season 1 had some down eps, too. -
Its a Caprica 6 moment. If Simone has powers, she would not have known about it. If some how she comes back, she is not going to stand there bloody cloths and all and deliver a "what, you want to kil me again" line that is so anti-here. Issac has gone cuckoo.
-
Thank you. Thank God for you.
-
It's funny that people are posting about everyone not getting radiation poisoning and other nitpicking thing. Have you ever watched this show before? It is very sloppy and unrealistic. I enjoy it, but I expect such plot holes and they keep it from being a great show. It is mildy entertaining and that's it. This was a very good episode.
-
Loved that line. best episode of the season by far. Seeing a lot of the players connections in the story. Little Hiro was a nice touch too.
-
asked: is a Television series a proper medium in which to convey a novel? I wonder if Drive will end up with the same problem (unless Drive is designed specifically for a single (half-)season.)
-
can someone speculate on how she will heal up after I make romance in her butt without lube. Will it hurt ? Will it heal ? Viewers want to know.
-
we won, and now we're in 1st place going into the playoffs...oh, and the black donnellys was boring and trite...and Henri is haunted:http://tinyurl.com/y9t7wa
-
To go back one sec to the Haitian not wiping out the emotional aspect of a memory...when he wiped out the QB, HRG told him to take everything. I would think that would be a complete mindwipe since HRG told the QB he was going to get a second chance. So I'm sure the Haitian could have wiped out all of HRG's feelings for Claire.
-
Good for Smyth, he's been jerked around by those guys for half a decade. They should have done a deal before the lockout. It's like Luongo in FL. At least they finally got off the pot.
-
But I don't think he did.
-
...absolutin' frickin' dilly! Stellar! Words elude me. Jaw-dropping. What a time to be ALIVE!!
-
I'm sorry you see things that way you poor poor Mexican.
-
me and some co-workers were trying to figure out all of sylar's powers, and we know he has telekinesis, the melting thing, and the super hearing, and the ability to freeze people (the scene when we first met matt parkman, one of sylar's victims was frozen) but theres one we can't figure out: originally sylar killed the waitress with the super memory, but then hiro went back in time to protect her, and later we find out that she was dying of cancer anyway... but, did sylar STILL taker her powers the second time around?
-
eh, close.
-
I agree with the conceptual idea of Heroes being akin to a comic book series and Lost being akin to a novel. A *mystery* novel. In which traps are laid long before they ever go off. You have to be patient. You have to be meticulous in the retention of information as the mystery progresses. If you have no care for mysteries or lack the patience to let those traps lie until it's the proper time for them to be sprung, then I pity you. But I'll be here laughing my ass off when all these mysteries come together in the big fuckall conclusion. I realize I've just jumped into the end of a Heroes talkback with a rant about Lost, but I love Heroes too. I think they've got a great thing going, and this most recent episode proved it. It's more instantly gratifying, certainly, than Lost, but that isn't a bad thing. I actually feel they're the perfect complement to eachother. One is a rollercoaster ride, delivering fast paced thrills and sharp twists. The other is building a mind expanding house of cards, for which the base is already set and is growing level by level. You can sit back on the roller coaster and have a blast for awhile, but the house of cards takes time and effort, lest you find yourself playing 108 pick up. It's just sad when one person who likes roller coasters can't understand why someone would build a house of cards and vice versa. Can't we all just... get along? =D
-
Yeah, I remember my first day in Talkback too.
;) -
"she was dying of cancer anyway... but, did sylar STILL taker her powers the second time around?" - Yes he did. It was demonstrated in one of the online strips at www.nbc.com when he used it to read a manual to learn how to drive a truck.
-
... I won't watch Lost because they're just making it up as they go along. No thanks.
-
Claires mom calls Nathan and tells him you may not remember me. So Nathan hasn't seen her in nearly 15 years. Nathan is big wig politico now. He is kept isolated except from important calls. He is rich so his number is private, very private.
So where did she get his number? -

in fact, the most fun I've had watching an adventure/sci-fi show in years. I hope they continue with the wild effects(for tv, yes it wouldn't pass Skywalker Ranch, but it's fine otherwise). I think it's become my favorite show. I certainly look forward to it more than Galactica or Lost
-
I suspect that a part of what the organization does is develop technology to counter-act the Heroes' powers. For example, Claude says he is tired of witnessing vivisections. Why would the Organization do such heinous things as vivisect human beings/heroes if there was no reward to it? My expectation is that they are developing technological counter-measures to the Heroes powers. This might explain why HRG was able to hold Sylar in containment so long, and could also explain why HRG and Parkman don't develop radiation sickness, etc. Also, I suspect that Sulu is a normal human who is not Hiro's biological Dad, much as HRG is not Claire's biological father. Unlike HRG, I suspect that Sulu has no compassion for Hiro. Sulu's attempts to persuade Hiro to come back to Japan might simply be viewed as subterfuge, ie, a way to control Hiro, who is now very powerful since his space-time powers have emerged. My guess about the Organization is that they are a private group of wealthy and powerful humans who recognize that these superhumans ("heroes") have emerged, and they are a threat to both the power of the Establishment (ie, the Organization) and to "normal" humanity, and so the superhumans must be controlled or neutralized to protect humanity and the power of the Organization. The way the Organization does this is manifold: they tag and track heroes and observe their behavior in the field; they observe and control the offspring of prior superhumans (as with Hiro and Claire); they capture and study the superhumans scientifically, even to the point of vivisection and execution of the subjects; they recruit willing superhumans to act as "hounds" or agents who hunt down or control other superhumans (such as Claude and the Haitian); they use the results of their studies to develop technological countermeasures to the superhumans' powers.
-
...what Kristen said about absorbing. The obvious conclusion to draw from that is that Peter absorbs the powers of whoever dies. But, what if it were less obvious? WHat if the key word there is "instantly" and they're treating Nikki/Jessica's separate personalities as separate entities? Could be a red herring meant to conceal the red herring of promising a major character death when all they plan to do is fold one half of nessika into the other.
-
first: that is ANNOYING AS HELL, we have to scroll past it eventually to get to THE NEXT TB POST, so that is completely redundant and jsut annoying.second: you come to the conclusion that it's peter, when right above you mentioned the quote about someone absorbing the powers of the hero that's gonna die. that has to be peter, right? sorry bud, it ain't gonna be Peter. whoever dies, Peter's gona take their power.
-
"...Jack Coleman. ... married to Tasha Yar's sister (Beth Youssaint, that is)."Toussaint.Lucky bastard!
-
it's simply going to be nikki/jessica or a bit character like the wireless chick
-
I was trying to be considerent for people who didn't want to see. Also, there is another character who does "absorb" others' powers, although a little messy. Then, Sylar can absord powers mess-free, and they just kill people in an effort to be unique.
-
Man, this was just freakin' top notch stuff. Some of the earlier outings have had issues...I'm not crazy about Mohinder or Simone and the actors that play them...but this was a 5 star for me. HRG became a real person. Definitely conflicted, but you got a sense he's a good guy because and in spite of his employment. The elaborate cover smacks of CIA or NSA rather than a private "Corporation" but the presence of Hiro's dad would make that seem unlikely. Unless it's a Rainbow Six deal as the various intelligence organs of the major powers recognized the threat and opportunity presented by the super humans. Wow. Great stuff. And while I'm still hanging in with Lost, I can't ignore that Heroes has really progressed the story...over a similar timeline of several weeks...in far fewer episodes.
-
GIVE HIRO BACK HIS POWERS ALREADY. That is all.
-
two episodes ago with the altered bullet back through the gun barrel trick that he pulled with chip stealing chick. It will be interesting to see how he grows with his powers/confidence to the point where he visited Peter from the future.
-
I'm pretty sure that they all work for Linderman and not a government organizaton. Although he is in the process of buying a government official (Petrelli). What surprised me was that HRG went from reporting to Linderman to reporting to Star80(tm). And did you see how fast Star80(tm) showed up at HRG's house when Atomic Ted was about to blow? Government workers don't move that fast.
-
In the 1st or 2nd episode he licked Claire's blood from the floor. I would assume the dog has her abilities.
