I'm all over this. Anna Paquin's yummy.
-
are cool. I'd love to see that little girl from the Piano tangle with a vampire. Especially if she's telepathic.
-
another vampire show?
-
then an hour break and 3 more weeks.
-
...but not horrible either. A little bit lighter fare than the Anita Blake series (back when it was something more than endless, badly written sex scenes), but good.
I hope it gets a better translation to the small screen than the Dresden Files has gotten on SciFi. -
Realized after reading the other comments, (which were mostly about Anna Paquin, and not the source material), that people might not know much about the book series.
As Herc mentioned, the series is about a waitress who can hear people's thoughts. She's under-educated, living in the small southern town she grew up in, and not doing a whole lot with her life.
Vampires are only one part of the supernatural tapestry for what is otherwise a twist on contemporary reality, (again, like Anita Blake, like Dresden Files, etc.) They figure somewhat more prominently though, as Sookie (the waitress) meets and begins to date one.
Essentially the series is one part supernatural mystery, one part romance, and one part small town bias. -
sounds like a cheap knock-off off the Vampire Lestat...

Nuf Said
-
And it won't be as scary as REBA (or people that keep Reba on the air).
-
Anita Blake books are little more than cheap romance novels for 14 year old goth chicks. I cant imaigine anything having less depth. Since its HBO and the guy behind 6FU, I have faith they will put out something of Quality even if they end up cancelling it after season 2 (still pissed about what they did to Carnivale).
-
So it will prolly be not as bad as it could be... Would be uber if they brought back Angel on HBO.... Droooooooooooooooooooooool.... fuck, I want to know what happens after that cliff-hanger of series finale... season 5 was hands down the best season of Angel. No doubt about it.
-
that program Vampire High then its gonna SUCK. i never liked her acting in X men nor that boring ass film she was in with the eclips at the end.
The problem with vampires is unless they are constraints to humanity they are just dust, and unless they are either in buffy or ann rice world they suck ! -

Due to Anna, I'll watch, though the books are TERRIBLE!

Seriously, I like vampire stories. When you start adding werejaguars and other stupid shit, tune me out.

see Annas Boobs????
-
thats all the world needs.Anyone remember when vampires were something to be feared and reviled? Thanks a lot Anne Rice for turning them into whiny, morose goth dandies. The only fear they inspire since Anne Rice has been the fear of having to read another book or watch another movie based on her or one of her imitators.WAA!WAA!I'll never see the sun!Waa!WAA!Oh,the lonliness of being undead!Waa!I think I wanna be a rockstar.WAA!You are the reincarnation of my exgirlfriend/wife!WAA!Thanks a lot for inspiring this seemingly endless sea of mopey,self-pitying shit.George Hamilton pwns Lestat!

I trust Ball.

"George Hamilton pwns Lestat"...Now THAT was funny!!!
by big_bubbaloola
Bravo sir, and ya gotta good point there.
-
Ultraviolet (the BBC series, not the movie from last year)
-
We have found the new TB catchphrase and it is "George Hamilton PWNS Lestat." PASS IT ON!
-
In the history of bad ideas , it is a bad idea. Enough with the vampires. They need to recommission Sapphire & Steel.
-
If you believe it did, then I'd say you didn't really get it. Let's put it this way, if there was to be a season 6, you know it most definitely wouldn't have ended the way it did.
-
I wonder if the Vampire character goes for a run every morning, or if Thomas Newman will supply the score. Can't wait.
-
really? because i'd say finishing the show in the middle of a major battle definitely counts as a cliffhanger in most people's books. you can argue that angel & co were doomed and you can argue that they weren't, but unless you've seen the outcome of the fight then it's by definition a cliffhanger. only a simpleton would argue otherwise.
-
Anna Paquin is great casting. Ball will knock this out of the park and... there will be blood. And running. Let's hope there's running.
-
Anna Paquin + gothy gay vampires = BLISS.
-
seeing as I enjoyed SFU. I love Paquin too but feel a bit guilty about it seeing as she was the little girl from The Piano
-
never read the books, but I hope the vampires aren't gothy/mopey/(ahem)homosexual style vampires (not that there's anything wrong with that) but more in line with a John Carpenter/Stephen King zombie-with-a-brain style monster. It's on HBO, it's written by someone who can write, love him or hate him, and Anna Paquin is a sweety. I'll give it a chance.
-
do you *know* how the battle ended? do you *know* who lived and who died? no? then it's a cliffhanger. fucking simple as that.
-
What's next,"Django" dragging a casket full of anal beads and KY?
-
I've always wanted to see what was under those clothes.
-
Does the vampire guy have a vampire dog? If not, put a dog in it.
-
I love these books and I look forward to each one that comes out. I've been dying to see what they were going to do with the TV show, but ANNA PAQUIN?!?!?! What the hell are they thinking?!?! That's the worst casting I could possibly imagine for the role of Sookie Stackhouse. I don't know what the creators were thinking. I thought Alan Ball was supposed to be a fan of these books, but if he allowed Anna Paquin- who can't act to save her life- to be casted then I guess I was mistaken. It's like asking for this show to fail. I would rather they not even do the tv show. They're going to screw up perfectly good books such that millions of people will only come to associate the Sookie Stackhouse series with a crappy third rate tv show and a crappy untalented actress. This totally sucks.
-
...and he'll pwn the bloody shit out of this too!...and no,I'm not British.
-
Can't wait for this. Please don't..err..suck.
-
Anna Paquin + Alan Ball + HBO+ vampires = Must see from Neo Zeed. If only all things could be that simple.
