    Vampires

    by conniebrean1

are cool. I'd love to see that little girl from the Piano tangle with a vampire. Especially if she's telepathic.

    Not a great series IMO...

    by xsi kal

...but not horrible either. A little bit lighter fare than the Anita Blake series (back when it was something more than endless, badly written sex scenes), but good.

I hope it gets a better translation to the small screen than the Dresden Files has gotten on SciFi.

    Synopsis

    by xsi kal

Realized after reading the other comments, (which were mostly about Anna Paquin, and not the source material), that people might not know much about the book series.

As Herc mentioned, the series is about a waitress who can hear people's thoughts. She's under-educated, living in the small southern town she grew up in, and not doing a whole lot with her life.

Vampires are only one part of the supernatural tapestry for what is otherwise a twist on contemporary reality, (again, like Anita Blake, like Dresden Files, etc.) They figure somewhat more prominently though, as Sookie (the waitress) meets and begins to date one.

Essentially the series is one part supernatural mystery, one part romance, and one part small town bias.

    "Lighter than Anita Blake" ???

    by optimus primal

Anita Blake books are little more than cheap romance novels for 14 year old goth chicks. I cant imaigine anything having less depth. Since its HBO and the guy behind 6FU, I have faith they will put out something of Quality even if they end up cancelling it after season 2 (still pissed about what they did to Carnivale).

    by judge briggs

So it will prolly be not as bad as it could be... Would be uber if they brought back Angel on HBO.... Droooooooooooooooooooooool.... fuck, I want to know what happens after that cliff-hanger of series finale... season 5 was hands down the best season of Angel. No doubt about it.

that program Vampire High then its gonna SUCK. i never liked her acting in X men nor that boring ass film she was in with the eclips at the end.

The problem with vampires is unless they are constraints to humanity they are just dust, and unless they are either in buffy or ann rice world they suck !

Angel didn't end on a cliffhanger

    by _maltheus_

If you believe it did, then I'd say you didn't really get it. Let's put it this way, if there was to be a season 6, you know it most definitely wouldn't have ended the way it did.

Angel didn't end on a cliffhanger?

    by newc0253

really? because i'd say finishing the show in the middle of a major battle definitely counts as a cliffhanger in most people's books. you can argue that angel & co were doomed and you can argue that they weren't, but unless you've seen the outcome of the fight then it's by definition a cliffhanger. only a simpleton would argue otherwise.

    this has real promise

    by samsquanch

never read the books, but I hope the vampires aren't gothy/mopey/(ahem)homosexual style vampires (not that there's anything wrong with that) but more in line with a John Carpenter/Stephen King zombie-with-a-brain style monster. It's on HBO, it's written by someone who can write, love him or hate him, and Anna Paquin is a sweety. I'll give it a chance.

    by loonigrrl

I love these books and I look forward to each one that comes out. I've been dying to see what they were going to do with the TV show, but ANNA PAQUIN?!?!?! What the hell are they thinking?!?! That's the worst casting I could possibly imagine for the role of Sookie Stackhouse. I don't know what the creators were thinking. I thought Alan Ball was supposed to be a fan of these books, but if he allowed Anna Paquin- who can't act to save her life- to be casted then I guess I was mistaken. It's like asking for this show to fail. I would rather they not even do the tv show. They're going to screw up perfectly good books such that millions of people will only come to associate the Sookie Stackhouse series with a crappy third rate tv show and a crappy untalented actress. This totally sucks.
