Fire & Rainn!! Learn What’s In The Works As OFFICE Mate Wilson Hosts The Last SNL of Sweeps!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
Rainn Wilson, who played Creepy Arthur on “Six Feet Under” and the Harry Knowles character on “Entourage” - and now plays the oddly behaved Dwight Schrute on “The Office” - hosts tonight’s "Saturday Night Live."
Making tonight’s dress rehearsal? The first installment of "The Falconer" since May 2006!!!
We can also expect perhaps a cameo from one of Wilson’s “Office” mates. (The smart money, of course, is on Steve Carell, a associate of “SNL” since 1996 when he first played the Gary half of the Ambiguously Gay Duo.)
And of course, as the promos suggest, Nooni & Noni Schroner are likely to turn up.
Look! Press release!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“OFFICE” STAR RAINN WILSON HOSTS “SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE” WITH MUSICAL GUEST THE ARCADE FIRE ON FEBRUARY 24
NEW YORK – February 20, 2007 – NBC's "Saturday Night Live"
welcomes one of the stars of the network's critically acclaimed and Emmy Award winning comedy "The Office," Rainn Wilson, with one of the most talked about bands of 2007 – The Arcade Fire – on February 24.
Wilson, who is known to millions as "Dwight Schrute" on NBC's Emmy-, SAG-, and Golden Globe-winning "The Office" alongside Steve Carell. Previously, Wilson was known for his work as Arthur Martin, the mortician's apprentice on HBO's Emmy Award-winning series "Six Feet Under."
Wilson transitions to a leading role in the Sundance Festival hit "The Last Mimzy" opposite Joely Richardson as a science teacher who gets caught up in a fantastical science-fiction ride when two of his students uncover a box of ultra-advanced toys with magical capabilities to bring
them into the future.
Previous credits include: "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" opposite Luke Wilson and Uma Thurman; "Sahara" with Matthew McConaughey, Steve Zahn, and Penelope Cruz; "Badasssss"; Steven Soderbergh's "Full Frontal"; Cameron Crowe's "Almost Famous"; "America's Sweethearts"; "House of 1,000 Corpses" and "Galaxy Quest." He has also guest-starred on "CSI," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "Dark Angel," and "Monk," and he co-starred in the TV movie "When Billy Beat Bobby."
Joining Wilson in their "SNL" debut is one of the most talked about bands of the last several years, Montreal's The Arcade Fire, who will perform selections from their eagerly anticipated sophomore release "Neon Bible."
The Arcade Fire topped countless best-of lists in 2004 upon the release of their universally acclaimed independently released debut "Funeral." The album garnered Grammy nominations and praise from across the critical spectrum – whether it was awarded a 9.7 review from Pitchfork Media or heralded as a band that "stormed into American onsciousness" by The New York Times. The follow-up, the forthcoming "Neon Bible," will arrive hotly anticipated on March 6 on the heels of the band's recent five-night sold out concert runs in New York City, London and Montreal.
"Saturday Night Live," is from SNL Studios in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels. Steve Higgins produces. Marci Klein and Mike Shoemaker are producers. Head writers are Seth Meyers, Paula Pell and Andrew Steele. Don Roy King
directs.

Suck it.
-
FOR SHAME, HERC!
-
will be welcomed with open arms by me.
-
Although, I might have to skip the Falconer sketch. Those fucking blow.
-
until some dickhead asks if this show is stil on the air?

Real question is whether Hader will be underused again.
by danielkurland
He's so, so good.
-
That long.
-
cant wait to see them. and looking forward to 'office' shout outs from rainn skits.
-
Now just have the Target lady and we'd be just about a perfect storm of lameness.
-
I won't be watching.Have fun guys.
-
NERDIEST. BAND. EVER.
-
I think they've been getting mostly top notch musical guests since the Ashley Simpson debacle...MOSTLY
-
regarding one of the SNL actors doing copious amounts of blow at the after-wrap parties every weekend...my money's on Wiig...
-
come on now...
-
Oh, who am I kidding? Who knows how bad/good it'll be tonight.
-
ANNA!ANNA!ANNA!BOO WOLF BLITZER!!!!
-
But as usual, the sketch is going on way too long.
-
And it's still going. Splitting this stuff up throughout the show, like 'breaking news' might've been pretty damn funny, but they just had to stomp it to friggin' death.
-
...but they're starting to blow it =/
Stop the sketch! Quick! There is still time... -
Gotta love the cove of the Venture Bros. DVD set...That's them - running away.
-
wiig and sudeikis and armisen deserve better.
-
But... Karen?... really? THAT was the cameo? I want Carell!
-
Fucking nailed Jim and Pam.
-
...what a thing of beauty.
-
liked it alot... just imagine the buffudlement of those millions upon millions who don't watch the Office.
-
'No I didn't.'
Perfect Office impersonations. -
It was the last time I saw my Uncle.
Just... wrong.
Funny... but wrong. -
He loved crayons.
-
I'm hysterical.
-
But why does it make me think of the Drew Carey show?
-
Decided at Turkey Sub.
-
One of the things that I've found frustrating about SNL is that they never take advantage of the fact that the show is live to do something really daring or unexpected. I've been thinking and I can't really remember any time when they took advantage of the fact that they are live (except for Jimmy Fallon always laughing at himself...).
-
Which may end up being my new name.
-
That was tremendous. This is a great show so far....until Nooni showed up.
-
Heeeenhhh!!
-
the Nooni/Nonie episode when they both get murdered?
That was a good start... this is SHIT -
I could swear they are.
-
Yup. Brought things to a screeching halt.
-
Recurring characters. The show has gotten so good at random insanity the recurring characters (and often political satire) come off predictable and sedate.
-
...but judging from her look in this sketch, I think Amy coulda done a decent Nina Meyers.
-
Dwight should host EVERY week.
-
...I think I saw some tongue!
-
unrelated to the sketch though...
-
Saved that one for me. That premise had 1/2 a joke total, if that.
-
Clapton circa "The Color of Money" era = Comedy Gold!
-
I wanna be the zylo player in a kooky band with a bunch o' pasty white guys.
-
when you destroy an acoustic guitar.
-
I stand corrected. Lesbian Kissing could even cure cancer. My humblest apologies.
-
One of the best bands in the last few years.
-
"I'm going to make a statement...and that statement is that I am an idiot."
-
guess i'm gettig older. arcade fire seemed corny.
-
Even David Bowie says so...
-
Lesbian double-sided dildoing, ala Jennifer Connelly in 'Requiem for a Dream', cures AIDS. Get it right. Yeesh.
-
A creole proverb. An empty sack cannot stand up. I love arcade fire. I want more parts for neighborhood. Crazy Canadians.
-
...but that performance left a lot to be desired. One thing is for sure though, Pitchfork will be all over their new album like a monkey on a bananna.BTW: shy, introverted indie-rockers should leave the guitar smashing to Pete Townshend. Ironically, he doesn't do it anymore.
-
heh.
-
And the only way to make it work, would've been to put Armisen's 'judge' character in the position of being a heartless fuck, rattling off racial epithets and being completely OUT of character, until something really lame made him break down.
-
Okay, Seth's unflappable pose and expression during the otherwise humorless Prince Harry vomit was pretty damn funny.
-
...the last resorts of desperate comedians.
-
I wanted Weekend Update to end. It was almost paintfully long. The best part was Seth's deadpan while being vomited on.
-
...Seth can't be flapped.
-
...but I didn't say it wasn't hot.
-
very very wierd. i've decided i liked it. one half of an hour.
-
"preview-based films"
-
I didn't need to see that much of Dwight, man. No, really.
-
Was WAAAY overrated.
-
Whoa.
-
...Harry lost weight.
-
You totally read my mind
-
yahahah
-
I wanted Ferrell to enter very badly
-
that monkey crank harp violin fart box.
-
no comment outside of that
-
But I fully admit I'm probably past the target demo for this 'group'.
-
This feels like four different bands all on stage at the same time. What are they? I hope they smash the jack-in-the-box at the end!
-
They got me interested a little
-
But...what IS their target demo? I mean, I'm 22 and I completely don't get anything about them. Are they making some kind of political statement? Are they a little bit country? A little bit rock and roll?
-
If I'm not the target demo, and you're not the target demo...then I haven't a clue. Overall tonight: Some improvement over the previous two weeks, 1/2 a good opening sketch, a solid monologue, "Captain Pajama Shark", lesbian kissing, Seth getting puked on, and Harry on Harp. Not great, not awful.
-
Dude, that performance was terrible. There was nothing special about that band whatsoever. Just another overrated, mediocre band that will fade into obscurity....
BTW puking Prince Harry was pretty funny.
Prince puke > Arcade Fire
-
...is still better than "One-up, Up, and Away!"
-
pretty funny
-
it was two women kissing who aren't lesbians. Well, I guess the characters were. Ah, I dunno what I'm talking about.
-
That is all.
-
missed the whole thing. but the digital short is up on youtube, and it's the best since Lazy Sunday, in my opinion, fucking hilarious. Crazy Karl made me spit out my cran-reaspberry juice. here's the link:http://tinyurl.com/3dbsmr
-
Here it is over at SNL.com
http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/#mea=65251 -
are awesome. They've gotten no love on the board yet and I just wanted to mention them. I loved that sketch on the Annette Benning show and I thought that version was actually a funnier sketch than last night's but I'm glad they are bringing it back. But IMO the best sketches were the bar song and the digital short and the "white possum" thing. Did anyone else notice that Wilson was in every sketch? He was not in Weekend Update - OK - but everything else. A big change from Forest Whitaker two weeks ago.
-
i thought it was acceptable...he busted a string pretty early in the performance
-
broken by the end of the song. Made me wonder if the performance was live or if it was Memorex.
-
...then proceeded to break a few more (by pulling on them) at the end of the song. He then smashed the guitar out of what looked like embarrassed frustration.
-
The only week spot for me was the Black Snake Moan sketch. This was a terrific episode, and my only complaint is that Hader was underused.
-
...came out of my nose!
And did anyone notice that Keenan was smirking a lot less tonight? He actually came off as somewhat commited to being intense in the "Black Snake Moan" parody.
And the digital short was the shit. Because the Indian's name wasn't Chief Big Cloud, it was Gary! Get it? -
She'd be an awesome Lois Lane.
-
not Rasheeda.
-
Cold open was a bit too long -- I think the Larry King part was just so Rainn would have enough time to change for the monologue. But the monologue was great, the three office nerds who get drunk was great and should've gotten a better response, the digital short was great, the peeper was hilarious, and overall Rainn Wilson was great...definitely one of the better hosts.
-
...right now.
-
And yes, Rashida Jones is awesome
-
... but caught this episode and laughed several times, so SNL must be improving. I might catch a few more this season. And Arcade Fire was a total mess. I can't remember ever looking forward to a song on SNL, though. Give me comedy and keep your fucking songs on MTV.
-
that is all.
-
I saw Rainn in this ridiculous online video blog about these guys making a velociraptor movie...
www.myspace.com/raptorquest.
Funny shit. He's in the 6th one, talking about ninjas. The rest of them are pretty funny too.
As for the show, Arcade Fire rocked. Besides that, the only thing I laughed at was how dead-on the Pam and Jim impressions were in the opening sketch. I kind of love "The (American)Office," but the mugging to the camera does get pretty ridiculous. Who does that? -
(__)__)
-
People who have cameras constantly pointed at them while they are at work?
-
It certainly wasn't a solid show, but I was just suprised there were actual laughs at all. The song sketch was really good. So good it seemed like it came from another show. The video sketch was also fairly entertaining. After that things took a big slide. You'll note those good sketches contained no reoccuring characters and also contained no impressions. The nooni sketch was painful, and the weekend update thing was unexcusibly horrible. Can't they just buy a Colbert re-run and plug it into that timeslot? Weekend update felt like a collection of occasionally "dirty" or "topical" Bazooka Joe jokes told from a news desk, combined with some liberal gloating (and I'm about as left as you get) and some boring impressions. Poohler's mugging is even more obnoxious than the worst of Jon Stewart. I feel like I've seen the "somebody holds up their hand to cover their face and vomits uncontrolably" bit a hundred times, just on SNL. Arcade Fire was pretty good, but they probably should have gotten them for the last album. At least SNL seems to be going after bands that probably won't get caught lip synching. I got the feeling the guy broke the guitar out of frustration that all his strings were breaking. It didn't seem planned, and looked quite lame.
