‘I Already Look Guilty!!’ SWEEPS DAY 20!! The Almost-Last New VERONICA Till April!!

Published at:  Feb 20, 2007 10:00:47 PM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Last week’s installment, with the smelly, narcissistic Logan Echolls charged with caring for the 11-year-old sister of Dick Casablancas’ new squeeze, was a five-star affair. Teleplay for that episode was credited to Rob Thomas’ fellow “Cupid” vet Joe Voci.

The CW says of tonight’s installment:

Without any evidence to hold her, Sheriff Lamb releases Veronica from jail. Josh (guest star Jonathan Chase), makes contact with Veronica and insists that he is being framed for his father's murder and, though Veronica has sympathy for him, she doesn't know if she believes him. Keith learns that the coach's wife, Kathleen Barry (guest star Tracey Needham), hired Vinnie Van Lowe (guest star Ken Marino, "Reno 911") to find out if her husband was having an affair. Meanwhile, Logan joins Mac and Parker on a Valentine's Day scavenger hunt. Percy Daggs, Francis Capra, Ryan Hansen and Chris Lowell also star.

We get one more “Veronica Mars” episode next week, which will wrap up the Dean O’Dell storyline, then the show disappears from the CW until mid-April to make room for a new reality show about the search for America’s next top Pussycat Doll.

9 p.m. Tuesday. The CW.

who watches Veronica Mars will be captured by the raw intrigue and ingenuity that is "The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll"... right? There will be blood. Torture. Screaming... and that's just in the office of the guy who bumped Veronica for this bullshit reality crapfest. Seriously though. He should just kill himself. He's obviously a waste of precious resources like food, and... responsibility for television programs. Get me his name! It's going on... THE LIST.

I'm assuming this episode will have tons of...

    by danielkurland

forward momentum with the O'Dell storyline. I know they "lost" an episode from their arc ,but very little has happened with it. I'm not necessarily complaining, they just have a lot to set up is all. And yeah, Piz and Veronica will piss me off, as it seems inevitable that it will happen, but it seems worth it for the prospect of it making Logan doing something awesome, but I'm sure he can't kill Piz or something. Maybe she'll get together with Piz, just to learn that he actually killed Cyrus...and blew up the bus...and killed Lily Kane...and raped her, again. I suppose all of that is more reason to break up with someone than sleeping with Madison. I hope that if they get together it doesn't show them having sex. She had such an attraction to Logan (see the bathroom making out scene) and it took her a long time to have sex with him; I'd hate to have her just immediately fuck Piz.

    The problem with Piz...

    by jim jam bongs

Is that it's just unbelievable that a woman like Veronica would go for him or his type. Sorry but that's the facts. It really does reek of a lame attempt by the writers, who are probably mostly male, to hook up the show's titular hot chick lead with a "nice, funny guy." I doubt many of the female audience care for Piz. Ultimately the lesson is: If you are a middle-aged male screenwriter, please do not hook up your cool hot female protagonist with a guy who's a surrogate for you. It's just kind of a sad.

    by danielkurland

I keep forgetting that VM not only maintained GG's audience, but IMPROVED on its ratings from last year. They've done everything asked of them by the network, and have a longer lifespan than the majority of CW's programming, and there is little reason why it shoul be cancelled, when considering things like this. However, things continue to seem bleak for whatever reason. Losing Veronica Mars and Studio 60 at once would be too much of a blow for me.

Well she's going to be originating the role for Broadway, so I would ASSUME it's not just a summer gig. Jane Krakowski had to bow out after the previews because of her 30 Rock gig, so that makes one assume it would interfere with the TV season. I'll hold out hope until something is announced, but her siging on to Xanadu doesn't make me hopeful for a 4h VM season.

    by prior walter

This Xanadu thing is just a backup in case VM is cancelled. She does have a 5 year contract, so maybe if VM does get renewed she can just bow out of Xanadu, and perhaps that's the reason there hasn't been any kind of press release about her joining the show.

    I'm just afraid

    by david lazarus long

that the end of this season with no underlying story arc will make even diehard fans *want* it to end. I admit that this season started out slow, with the sucky new characters and the lack of old favorites (Jesus, Wallace and Mac have been in what, like 3 episodes all season?) but it's gotten better. Probably not quick enough to avoid the axe tho. Sad, really. If they just had faith in the audience and the writing staff... The fact that the life of the show was hanging by a thread definitely affected the nature of the beast. I mean, the whole point of VM was the idea of this big, epic case underneath all the day-to-day goings on. This season just seems to lack the gravitas of the previous endeavors. She has no personal stake in any of this stuff. It's just kinda odd jobs to pay the bills with. Some nice moments, but overall hasn't been the best. Logan returning to the self-hate-fest that defines his character is helping a bit. But I agree, the only way having Piz and VMars get together is if he dies in the season finale because of something Veronica is involved with, revenge for outing the Dean's killer maybe. Make her miserable again! She does her best work as "crazy Veronica". Sane Veronica can be pretty boring most of the time. *sigh* I miss those Lily Kane mind-fucks.

Is awesome, i was just rewatching the first season the other day and in the 3rd or 4th episode (one with paris hilton) she goes into the neptune grand with keith to ask for some CCTV footage they inform her they delete every 2weeks or summin! So, she asked them again recently for CCTV and they told her the same thing, yet she seemed suprised, i thought she was uber intelligent :p haha
O yeh i really love this show!

    What really sucks about this:

    by novaman5000

If veronica mars gets good enough ratings with their "standalone ep" trials, it will be brought back next year as a shallow shell of it's former self. No overarching mystery = shit. I don't watch this show for the relationships. I don't give a fuck if Logan and Veronica end up together. I care about the huge mysteries they come up against.

Then, on the other hand, if these standalone episodes don't work out, the show is getting cancelled. That's called going out with a whimper. Veronica should be ending on a fucking bang, and instead it's just limping to the finish line.

I would have liked veronica to take on a huge mystery as her final one. Fuckin shame.

Way to go, RT -- you'll get your wish and be divested of the show which obviously now bores you to tears. by danielkurland

The conclusion to the dead coach was satisfying, and in spite of how I'd hate to see Veronica and Piz together, not only did I not mind seeing Parker and Logan together, I actually ENJOYED seeing it. I'd be all for it. And yeah, Lamb dying, Jesus. A lesser show would have had him get out of it, and this is obviously going to lead to some shifts with Keith presumably taking over Sheriff. My vote also rests with the Dean's son being the killer. Thomas stated due to them losing one episode of their arc that there was one angle that they couldn't expand upon, and I'm assuming it had to do with one of the details revolving around the son. Landry is also too interesting to get rid of just yet.

    by the selecter

the weekly mysteries can be hit or miss, but the long arcs make it a better show. This was one of the best eps in a while. Everybody except Piz was accounted for (but why couldn't they have made him the hunt coordinator?), and both the micro and macro arcs worked well. Parker could have stripped down further for her swim, but that's a minor quibble. And Lamb's death was a surprise--shocking, but still plausible and not too contrived like some of the more famous sweeps deaths.

If one of Sherrif Mars' first orders of business is to stop the insurance fraud on the dead coach's part, I've lost all faith in the writers. How can he be sherrif while knowing that his daughter flagrantly violated the law by aiding and abetting a murder suspect, while tacitly endorsing insurance fraud? Regardless of the fact that the kid didn't do it, Mars' job is now to uphold the law.

    by ghj

I've really enjoyed the Dean O'Dell arc so far (and honestly I didn't dislike the rape arc as much as others seem to), but I'm curious to see how the one-off episode structure will work for the last five episodes. It seems like the season finale will feel fairly anti-climactic after the past two years. I've got no problem with them experimenting with standalone episodes, but right now I feel like the large arcs were what made the show feel special.

I didnt' have a problem with that. I figure it's just one of those cases of 'In for a Penny, in for a pound'. She was very hesitant because of the whole Cassidy thing, but once she got over that initial fear and was comfortable, I think it's reasonable. I'd have more of a problem with it if Cassidy had raped her or something, but Cassidy's only real attack on her was to take her clothes and leave her in the room. She was very lucky, but it's not like she made an overtly bad decision or anything that should make her question her own judgement. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, with a kid who had virtually everybody fooled.
