Stan Lee Versus Sylar!! HEROES 1.16!! SWEEPS DAY 19!!

Published at:  Feb 19, 2007 1:44:43 AM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

NBC says:

Peter painfully learns that someone close may have betrayed him and Claude (guest star Christopher Eccleston). Matt's world spirals out of control when radioactive man Ted Sprague (guest star Matthew John Armstrong) and Hana Gitelman (guest star Stana Katic), a fierce young woman with "wireless" mental abilities, drop into his life. After blood is spilled, Hiro makes a difficult decision about his mission. Claire is unable to contain her anger at her father. Tawny Cypress, Santiago Cabrera, Noah Gray-Cabey, Ali Larter, Adrian Pasdar, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Leonard Roberts also star. Jimmy Jean-Louis, Lisa Lackey, James Kyson Lee, Zachary Quinto and Cristine Rose guest-star.

“Somebody flies, somebody dies,” somebody whispers during each of those promos. Someone may indeed die in this week’s episode, titled “Unexpected,” but we’re still two weeks from losing a regular on March 5.

What we do get tonight is Stan Lee, creator of Spider-Man, The X-Men, Hulk, Daredevil and a host of other classic Marvel icons, who plays a bus driver who runs into Sylar.

What comes beyond tonight, we cloak in the text invisible:

* 1.17 (Feb. 26), titled “Company Man,” will see Matt and Radioactive Ted have a sit-down with Jack Bennet, and we learn much about Jack’s past via lots and lots of flashbacks – including one depicting how he came into possession of Claire.

* 1.18 (March 5), titled “Like Any Parasite,” is the one in which Peter, Nikissica, Micah, Jack, Mohinder or Simone gets killed. It’s also the episode in which Peter finally meets Linderman – who, says TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello, may or may not be played by Malcolm McDowell. We also meet sexy Candice Wilmer (“Stick It” star Missy Peregrym), whose superpower appears to be that she’s impossible to resist.

* 1.20 (TBD) looks likely to take viewers to the time of FutureHiro.

9 p.m. Monday. NBC.

    by seanny_d

NBC is trying WAYYYYYY too hard with that shit. Time to settle down and let the show speak for itself. And I don't think Missy Peregrym needs a power to be impossible to resist. I endured Stick It just to watch her in gymnastics outfits. By the way, BRING BACK HIRO'S POWERS. I'm tired of the quest for the sword bullshit.

He didn't any of those Marvel heroes and teams without the help of artists, editors, and other members of the bullpen. He tried to hog all the credit, God knows, but then again he has claimed responsibility for other people's work for decades now. He really screwed over Jack Kirby....

I'm averaging 180 or so. the team we're playing is not very good, but I've got a little cold.

And noted feminist and academic dr Geremaine Roasted the show while reviewing it or Newsnight reviews blasting it as the worst sinister tosh to come from america in years. She singled out what she felt was an arayan angle to this show. It starts on Channel six in Ireland very soon. The observer tv guide liked it and said it was worth sticking with. so well see.

My god could they rip any more characters from this graphic novel? I mean, seriously, the show is great, but for those of us that loved this comic it's like we have already seen portions of it. Do you think they know that one of their writers is taking ideas from RS?

Didn't Eden already have "irrisistability power" with that funky voice thing? Oh well, she's dead. "Melt Boy" had the dumbest powers this side of Matter-Eater Lad, I wonder why Sylar even bothered?

As for the dead person, it will be Ando (unfortunately) or Simone (meh, who cares). I really wish it would be Matt's wife, the two-face. She has the irresistible power of making me want to change the channel whenever she is on.

Uhh, are you kidding? The ability to decomposite any matter? Sylar would have been able to melt his bonds and the door and anybody or any physical thing that got in his way. The possibilities are endless. That's a very powerful ability. Although I'll have to admit Matter Eater Lad was pretty lame, but that Bouncing Boy! What a hero!

Ando isn't on the list above

    by leopold scotch

Plus a regular is killed in two weeks: I'd guess it's the Muggle woman (ie: Claire's adopted mum) tonight. Sure, she's a regular too, but y'know... crap with it. And I agree with aestheticity: we need more powers on show... Unless they're saving the series budget for later episodes where we see some team-hero smackdown in all its glory. I don't know if that's how financing these shows works, but that's what I'm hoping. As I've said before Simone and Matt's wife are just rubbish... it's made out that you're supposed to have sympathy for them, but they just get in the way with their whining etc. Matt's wife has an affair with his best friend, so what does he do to get back at her? He fucking gets back together with her and uses his powers to make her as happy as possible. Yep, that'll show her. Do us a favour and get rid of them both (Simone and Mrs Matt, not Simone and Matt).

So ... they have a lousy goalie? Since when does the opposing team's ability have anything to do with your score? Or are you so psychologically vulnerable that your opponents' behavior dictates yours?

I dont know who dies tonight, but the death on March 5th is a 'regular"..that means a serie regular, somebody who has been in the main credits since the beginning of the show, so invisible guy and radioactive guy and claires mom dont count. if you want to get technical, somebody has died in almost every week of this show...Jackie the cheerleader, Eden, Charlie the Waitress, Melting guy from last week. Its not exactly news every time somebody dies anymore.

And they better stop introducing new characters and develop some of the regulars. If this show goes like Lost, they'll alienate me by the beginning of next season. I hope that doesn't happen. by darth_nader

Here's a theory. Since Peter's vision wasn't exactly a picture like Isaac paints, and the pictures that Isaac painted aren't exactly clear, maybe Sylar is the man-bomb? The comments about the island I think is more of a nod to Marvel Comics and Stan Lee. Nathan may be referring to Genosha, and he may become like Senator Kelly (mutant registration?). Finally, the focus was all over the place tonight, but I did notice they were trying several times to keep people in two different distances in focus. Look at the scene with Clair and HRG in the hospital. Excelsior!

    by kai_mah'gra

....none of you talkbackers have figured this thing out yet. Obviously this series is setting the story up for a Season ending Uber-mega hero-battle between Sylar and Peter, that probably will end on a major cliff-hanger going into next Season. Chances are that, other than the powers that Peter got from Sylar during their brief encounter in Texas (i.e telekinesis), they wouldn't have any other similar powers by the time that fight rolls around, seeing as Sylar has to dispose of his victims in order to get their powers. I could see this coming a Mile away, - way back when Sylar was revealed. Oh, and allow me to be the first to mention it(seeing as no one else has); - because it was so unexpected, that scene of Peter flying away with Ecclestone on his shoulders, was way waaay cooler than all the flying scenes in Superman Returns combined - save for the Plane saving sequence (which was itself also done it by the moronosity of trying to turn and control the plane by grabbing the farthest end of its wing - as f these guys never did high school physics and ultimately leading to it breaking). Yes, I said it!!!! Hilarity ensues and all the Singer-apologists crawl out of their spider-holes to jump down my throat. Search your hearts my sily little Lemmings, you know this to be true.

    by spyguy

HEROES keeps getting compared to LOST and Jeph Loeb has been a producer on both shows, so I imagine this was an in-joke just like the NCC-1701 license plate last week.

I do think we're heading for a Sylar vs. Peter showdown in the May season finale, although I highly doubt either of them will actually wipe out New York. I'm guessing Sylar makes a tasty brain snack out of Radioactive Man and eventually goes boom, but Peter absorbs and contains the explosion. It would, however, be interesting if Peter ends up becoming the new Sylar for Season 2...

I got a 143 (don't ask, I have no idea what happened) and a 215. BUUUUT the scoring cap for our league is 205. 205 + 143 = 348. 348 / 2 = 174. you actually called it exactly. very weird! and I was wrong, we were actually playing the team we were tied for the lead with, and we split the games. oh well.I liked this episode, I was curious to see where things were gonna go with Claire and HRG, and I was truly surprised when the other heroes showed up in their house. gotta say, though. as soon as Isaac starting swinging the gun around at invisiPeter, I knew Simone was gonna walk in and get it. oh well, she's done with anyway, and the last thing this show needs is a love triangle...unless it's Hiro and Ando tag-teaming Marilyn Monroe on a pile of awesome...

Where did Peter get the voice sonic blast from?

    by evilwizardglick

Out of the blue he pulled it against Isaac.
Here is an idea if Peter can absorb others powers with minimal conatct then everytime he walks down the street and encounters even a minor mutant he has their abilities. Makes one wonder what else they will pull out, like say healing others.
Simone is NOT REALLY dead. She may be comic book dead. But she was in Peters vision as was Isaac.

    And blame HRG for Sylar

    by evilwizardglick

Sylar only exhibited telekinesis until HRG tried to study him. ONLY after that could he really steal others abilities with the first being Zane's.
He did not use Eden's voice on Claires mom, she had a concussion or what looks now as the hematoma.
Which doesn't make the Haitian responsible. It is even possible that Sylar had started brain cutting.

    by chrth

"Chrth may be the better hand to talk about things like this" -- I've stopped conjecturing on the timeline thing with Heroes. The writers have gotten inconsistent, probably for the conveniences of plot. While not ridiculously so, it's hard to justify tracking the changes if there's no guarantee they'll maintain consistency.
    BadMrWonka: Heh. :)
While I'm sure there's going to be a Peter versus Sylar fight, I do have to say I don't think the show can kill off Sylar. Let's face it: who else is going to be a bad guy? There's the League of Neutral/Pulp Faction, but they can't be a prime antagonist for a long arc; ditto Linchpin, unless we're about to learn he has advanced super powers as well; and of course I'm sure we'll have the anti-Heroes storyline, but again, I think they need to keep Sylar around.
All: Peter didn't have an Isaac-esque vision. There were multiple elements that indicated it was not literal: Claire in her Cheerleader's Outfit, Parkman in his Police Uniform. I actually don't expect Hiro/Ando or Nikki/DL/Micah to be in New York City during the season finale. But we'll see.

He has been denegrated and scorned all his life by his family and now he has come in to his own. He's mad as hell and is not going to take it any more. He's not gone evil.

    Mohinder

    by bythehairofsanjaya

Mohinder will put two and two together with Sylar's headaches. But I will have to say the writers have painted themselves into a corner with his character. What value is he adding to this process? The dynamic has moved way beyond getting the heros DNA and studying them. HGR's organization has been doing that for years. Mohinder is irrelevant.

    by itchy

And it's no coincidence that Nikki/Jessica was nowhere to be seen. She just drags it to a stop, doesn't she. Is it just me, or has the writing improved 10x over on this show since the premiere ? It is damn tight right now. Every scene tonight was significant and powerful. We're more than halfway through the season and I still don't know if HRG is a good guy or a bad guy. And Peter is veering off into insane territory (though we know he stays a good guy, since "empathizing" with people is how he absorbs his powers). I can't believe how good this show has gotten - the perfect blend of surprising twists and actual plot momentum, made all the more powerful by the foreshadowing of what's to come (ie, The Blast tm). Sorry ..... I think I'm getting fanboy juice all over this talkback.

Anyone read the Runelords series by David Farland ?

    by itchy

A mediocre fantasy series but one of the plot devices is that people can use magic to collect "attributes" from others, to make themselves more powerful. Ie, you could be a king whose vassal offers you his "agility", rendering you twice as agile, but your vassal a clumsy oaf. Couldn't help but think that is similar to the Peter or Sylar ability to consume others powers. In that series, however, it was known that if you collected enough attributes, you would for all intents and purposes be indestructable.

Kirby & Ditko certainly deserve credit, but so does Stan

    by spyguy

Jack Kirby was an idea man who created dozens of brilliant concepts, as did Ditko, but it was Stan who honed those ideas and gave them a soul. Case in point -- the Silver Surfer, which was originally just a cool-looking guy Jack threw in to FF to liven up the panels. But it was Stan, with John Buscema, that defined him as a character in the original SILVER SURFER #1-18. Or was Jack Kirby responsible for those issues as well?

I've been excited for this show the whole way through. Since they never show repeats, we don't know if they stand up on their own or not, and there's times in the past where I've gotten generally bored with some of the stories and stuff. But I just have to admit, I find Hiro totally annoying now. You have all this fairly mature stuff going on, and then there's Hiro running around talking about his "mission" and finding that stupid goddamn sword. I'm not saying I want him killed off, but if they could stop treating him like the cutesy comic relief, I'd appreciate it.

    by homer sexual

Yes, I am ashamed to admit that I watched the horrible, totally fake "Who Wants To Be A Super Hero" on Sci Fi last summer. Stan was truly wretched. BUT the good part is that the super-hearing lady also appeared on that abortion. She was one of the "Convicts" the super-heroes had to deal with. Cell Phone Girl was supposed to hug her or something like that, and the "tough ex-con" wouldn't let her. God, that show was unbelievably wretched, and there was never a comic book or TV movie with Flashback, the original winner, yet Season 2 had auditions here in LA last weekend.

    by childe roland

...you know as well as I do that any writer on this show has been subjected to at least 20 years of "heroes" (short for "superheroes") who blur the line between right and wrong on a regular basis. How often has SPidey been called a villain? Both Batman and Daredevil commit crimes regularly in their vigilante-style pursuit of harder, more dangerous (to civilian) criminals. Gambit has stolen. Wolverine has killed. Hasn't the entire Justice League pretty much conspired to wipe out people's memories (which would definitely be a crime if anyone knew about it). I guess my point is, you have a very strict and very dated definition of the term "hero," which neither the writers nor a lot of folks reading hte talkback share.

While it doesn't have to be black and white, the 'Heroes' really need to start acting like ones. Then again, they have just discovered their powers and there will be growing pains. It really bothered me that Matt resorted to stealing those diamonds. With Hiro, I think he got all caught up in his 'mission' and 'hero' thing and thought stealing the sword justified the saving of the world. He did refuse to steal the bag of chips though, so he's making progress.

Roberts does well with whatever material is presented to him. The best line of The Master's in the TVM was adlibbed by Roberts himself because of what he had known of The Master's speech patterns from back in the 70s when Delgado played the role...and when Roberts had watched the series on tv. And yes, there are fans like me that want to see the man return to the role. Plus, if you think Roberts was "worse" than Ainley in the role before him, then you seriously need your head examined. And that would be for a second checkup since you should have booked a checkup after seriously suggesting that David Tennant would be better than Christopher "Claud" Eccleston as The Joker. Then again, both would pwn Heath Ledger in the role. That right there was such a stupid casting decision that it was worthy of Bryan Singer and a mountain of coke.

    Sylar

    by leopold scotch

What't the theory on Sylar? My guess (unless it's already been established) is that he doesn't actually have ANY powers naturally: he just finds out all he needs to from Suresh Sr and does away with him, stealing his list and acquiring the powers unnaturally from tapping into the brain. I know there was an episode where we see his origin as a bad guy, but did he actually have telekinesis at first? I'd guess that every single one of his powers has been stolen once he figured out how to do it from Suresh. As such, anyone can do it, but Sylar is the only one who knows how. But once he figures out what Peter can do, he'll realise that by killing Peter, he wont need to kill anyone else. That would be my guess anyway. Also, has Peter actually met Hiro yet? If not, he won't be doing any time manipulation, but as engaged as I am, I forget a lot of things evidently.

    by flem_snopes

I think he was confused stealing the diamonds. Too much happening too fast, plus he heard the thoughts of his ex-colleague ripping him and that made him think even less clearly. Not to say that it hasn't occurred to me that he could go dark. I hope not, beside the cheerleader he's one of my favorite characters because he's just kind of this married slob and his wife is kind of a chunky (for TV) harpy. I'd be after that bloody HRG guy, too, if I was him, too.*****The cheerleader's storyline is by far the best. It's more complex and packs MUCH MORE emotional punch than any of the other story lines and I can hardly wait to see what happens next week with the confrontation at their house. I hope Matt can hear HRG's mind because it doesn't look like the Haitian will be around.*****Hiro used to be my favorite plot line, but yeah, he's kind of lost something. Good to see "Dauber" from "Coach" working again. Dauber gotta eat. Oops, sorry.*****I agree with many here in that I was screaming at my TV screen to Mohinder about how stupid he was. I'm getting tired of Sylar. I'm glad we're getting some closure there by the end of the season.*****Agree that it was good that there was no Nikki and family this week.*****The picked the right person to kill. Unfortunately, they will probably bring her back.

mean Hero's get an unofficial nod from Marvel to mirror a few of their most famous story lines. The first thing I thought when I saw Peter freaking out on Issac looking very powerful using all of his powers was.. uhm.. Dark Phoenix? After I saw Simone die I could really see it. What if it isn't Sylar that lops off Issac's dome but Peter? The question is if Peter does do the Dark Phoenix thing, who would have the power to stop him? None of our heroes have the power to stop him with the exception of Sylar. Wouldn't that be crazy..

    Peter's Superpower

    by aznbuddy

...is his ability to make me like his damned character! I swear, he was my least favorite character at the start of the show. Now he's second only to Hiro in my book in that he USES his powers! None of that "should I, shouldn't I" crap...he just does!

And I don't believe he'll turn dark, just because one of the show's themes is what people do when power is thrust upon them. Sylar is the opposite of Peter in that respect. They both believed they were meant for better, bigger things. It's just that Peter was predisposed to helping people (nurse) and Sylar became a serial killer. People thinking that Peter will turn into a Sylar are saying something about how people, given the chance at power, will abuse it. Mainly because that's what they see everyday. Peter should be made of sterner stuff.

However, when did Peter ever meet Eden???

I too was miffed after the first several episodes when it appeared that her arc was going nowhere. However, I'm way digging on the Jessica character. So to you Niki/Jessica haters, where exactly does your problem lie? My hunch isn't that it is the Jessica personality that's turning you off. Not when she is dominant, that is. I'm suspecting that if you dislike what Ali Larter is bringing to the show, it is because you either dislike the incessant whining of the Niki personality or you dislike the dead-end family dynamic with Micah and DL. Let's admit, when Jessica is in charge, shit happens.

I'm not sure why others are miffed or have a problem with Niki/Jessica but for me, it's because I'm not sure how this story fits in with the rest of the series. Right now it just seems that they have powers but there doesn't seem to be any sort of involvement with Mohinder, Sylar, and HRG. There's that Linderman angle where she's working for him, but I think people are frustrated at what might seem like a bad investment in a character or angle in the series.

I did like how she went up against Matt (the Psycho-Cop)in that episode though.

    Jessica

    by flem_snopes

It's true--as a sometimes "Jessica hater" it's the family baggage that does me in. I don't think introducing her husband has done anything for the character or the show. It made her less intruiging. I do think if we knew a little bit more about the specifics of her backstory it would help, too. I don't always explicitly want to know what's going on with a character (like HRG is so intruiging because we don't know what's going on with him), but in her case I think it would help. I'm not sure why. Maybe because she has (or appears to have) such a long relationship with her alter ego and I feel more cheated that it's not being revealed as much as I would like.

Never. I think Peter was just pissed off as he felt the only real chance he had of not blowing up was invisible man and stupid Isaac went and told HRG man! Anyways, peter is by far my favourite character, hiro is amusing and fun but Peter is just badass and i honestly feel he'll lead all the other heroes! I'm hoping he won't die as he is one of the more likeable characters IMHO!
Also, Sylar just gets better and better as a baddie, i totally buy his character! However i do feel his character has to die as to have the same baddie season after season in Heroes i just don't think will work!
Oh and i'd say probably say haitian guy will die March 5th his character is a bit rubbish and i don't believe he really adds much to the show! Especially since all you need to do is put him near Sylar and then the main baddie is crippled!

    Sylar and TK

    by 24hourbbq

Ok, even though they didn't actually say it out loud, if you watch the "six months ago" episode with Sylar, you'll see that he was genuinely distressed that he had no powers. He was still upset about it when he was by himself, and as we haven't seen him with a schizoid personality, I think we can accept that through the "language of film" he is being honest with us, the audience, and that he in fact had no powers that he knew about. If he already had telekinesis, it would be exceptionally poor writing to have the first superpower to walk through his door also be Telekinesis, since there are NO DUPLICATED POWERS SHOWN ON THE SHOW YET. The various scenes showing the progression of 1) Sylar meets Chandra, and is unable to display powers, 2) Sylar mopes about his lack of specialness, 3) a guy with TK shows up, and Sylar sees that he has powers, 4) Sylar goes back to Chandra, and demonstrates that he has TK, 5) the original TK guy is dead. This is a storytelling device that shows that Sylar TOOK the TK power from the guy. It is not ambiguous at all. We also know that he has killed other people, who's powers we do not know about at this point. You can explain any other weird stuff that goes on with him as being "Oh, it must be some other powers that he's collected". If you read the companion online graphic novel bits at heroes dot nbc dot com, you will get more confirmation that he took powers even before he initially met and was captured by HRG (it shows him watching Charlie, and then learning how to drive a semi-truck by reading through the manual once). Various sources (which unfortunately I can't remember now, otherwise I'd cite them... can anybody help with these?) have shown that Eden DID in fact kill herself before Sylar could extract her power, so he does NOT have that one. Yes, he's been getting Deep Voice Syndrome (as has Peter), but I'm wondering if that is some other facet of his power, or something that the FX department is doing in a not-so-subtle attempt to show his increasing menace when he's about to do some serious killin', because if he is in fact commanding them to do something, why would he start commanding them and instead of waiting for them to act out his wishes, smash them against a wall with TK? Whew. Ok, and then off the topic of Sylar, HRG had plenty of time to get back to Texas, considering Matt/Ted/WirelessGal had to get from L.A. to Texas themselves. Also, though they're building us up to this whole idea of it being either Peter, Sylar, or Ted who explode, I REALLY hope that it's been a huge red herring and they through a fat-ass twist at us at the last moment. I like the idea somebody threw out a little earlier about Peter turning bad and Sylar being the one who has to stop him, even though I'm guessing it ain't too likely. Mohinder keeps talking about wanting to "cure" the heroes, so he could easily turn out to be a bad guy from the heroes' point of view, if he becomes especially insistant. I think the past several episodes of the heroes learning more about their powers, gaining control over them, and battling more with moral ambiguity is right in line with your time-tested Hero's Journey. So it's all lookin' good to me! Looking forward to next week's episode! Woo!

    season 2

    by mr_x

i guess most of you must fast forward the Mohinder moments, but he said something crucial talking to sylar, hes gonna create a inhibitor. hrg is gonna hunt heroes and stop their powers. this will also limit peters powere in the terms of him becoming all powerful, i would assume that the twist will be that he cannot use the same powers as another hero when he is their vicinity.

i've disliked nikki/jessica from the begining, but i must admit that last weeks epsiode they did a stellar job in makinng her a bad ass assain. if they can keep that up then she'll come to the forefront.

i also didnt particular like peter in the bgining, and i thought he was a weak character, but he's come right to the top of the favourite heroes.

im also hoping for a cgi smackdown of sylar and peter, it's just got to happen.

whos gonna die? im hoping issac, whast the point of spending an hour doing a painting of peter standing behind you, only to turn around after you've finished it and see him there!

    Sylar's original power

    by dreadpirate

is instinctively understanding how things work. That's how he was able to know that Surech Sr's watch was slow when they first met. It's also how he worked out how to get other people's powers. Telekenesis is just one of the powers he's stolen (abeit the most useful one). He now has super hearing; melting things; memory; freezing and telekenesis. Any other's that I've missed?

Sylar learning to drive by reading the manual could have been from the timeline where Hero didn't save the coffee shop girl, so he may not actually have that power anymore. I also tend to think that his telekenisis and his flight are two different powers. I'm not sure he took the TK, but I think he took someone's ability to fly.

"How can he get scarred?" Common misconception

    by chrth

Medically speaking, scars are not the result of the injuring process; they're the result of the healing process. Now, Claire seems to heal fast enough (or she concentrates hard enough) that her healing is super-rapid enough that there is no scarring. However, if Peter was to be more lazy about his healing, he might simply close the wound and let it finish the job naturally, in which case he could very well have a scar.

I respect your opinions here, but I would honestly love to know how you apparently escaped from Omega's anti-matter universe because your reasoning concerning certain aspects of DOCTOR WHO is pretty opposite to the majority of Whovians worldwide. Roberts is pretty well reviled for his work in the 1996 TV movie, as well as his "acting" (if such a term can be used in association with Eric Roberts) in general.

And yeah, I think a Joker in his thirties, lean, with an angular face and crazed eyes would certainly be preferable to a Joker that's in his forties, with a BOOMING VOICE, big mug-handle ears, and no upper lip when he grins. But I guess that's just me.

    Stan's The Man

    by blanket-man

It's interesting to still see more whining from the Kirby, Ditko, and/or DC camps about what a monster Stan is. Stan was a major factor in making Marvel and its characters what they are today, whether anyone wants to believe it or not. Read Beau Smith's article in this month's Comics Buyers Guide, and you'll be clued in on a big part the genius of Stan: He made all of us Marvel Zombies feel like we were part of an exclusive yet accessible, ultra-cool club. Of course Ditko and Kirby and Romita and Heck and Colan and Roy Thomas, etc., deserve lots of credit, but Stan has ALWAYS been the face of Marvel. He put himself out there, constantly, and kept his name (and thus, Marvel's name) out there. DC fans have always been jealous that there never was a Stan Lee at DC - One Guy who took on the face of the company. Lots of talented creators, yes, but ask your average person on the street to name one DC comics creator, and chances are you'd get a blank stare; ask the same question about Marvel, and just about everyone would say "Stan Lee." Can't wait to see the MAN at the NY Con this weekend - it's gonna be a madhouse!

I don't think that sort of scar would change Peter enough for Hiro to say he looks different. I agree about your other point though. I've long suspected that Peter got his dreaming power from Simone's dad (who also dreamed about Peter flying)-the dying guy that Peter used to sit with (especially if you remember the first scene of the first ep, Peter was daydreaming about flying while sitting next to the guy's bed).

Tell that to Marv Wolfman, J. Michael Stracynski, Mark Waid and others who used to rock once upon a time but who are now mere shells of their former greatness. I mean, when was the last time Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, or Billy Joel wrote a solid hit song? Dude, it HAPPENS.

And since you were obviously working at Marvel in '60s, please tell us who wrote ALL those issues that had Stan's name on them? Roy Thomas? Sure, Stan's artists helped out with plotting & character creation and certainly deserve their fair share of credit, but there's no way they wrote every bit of dialogue for Stan to rubber-stamp his name on.

    by childe roland

...quote, as I was just having a discussion with someone the other night about why I hated the prequels, especially ROTS, so much. Sure, I've got some issues with the dialogue and plot decisions George made, and the overall pacing of the three films, but the thing that gets me most...the thing that made all three absolutely irredeemable for me...was Hayden's inability to emote without telling us exactly what his character was supposed to be thinking or feeling. "I am very angry now!" or "You make me feel funny in my pants." or "I have to poo." His dialogue really wasn't any better than that at any point in the trilogy. And he delivered it all like the untalented kissass junior high school player who gets the plum part because his homeroom teacher thinks he's cute. And ROTS was so close to being a decent movie. But his performance is so lousy that even with an Avid editor and a talented impressionist to change up some of the dialogue, I don't know that I could fix it. Anyway, Peter on Heroes hasn't been much better than Hayden, but last episode was an exception. He showed me something I didn't realize he had. It'd be a shame if they were planning to kill him off just as he's becoming compelling.

    by crichtonastronut

Kinda sad to see her go. But good to see the promo weren't BS this time.

Gotta say i'm intrigued by how the seen with Matt, HRG, and Claire develops. Especially since Claire at this point is likely to shoot HRG himself if he doesn't start talking.

I get people being disturbed by Matt stealing the diamonds. But I'm totally behind getting some answers from Bennet.

Especially since away from the Haitian all Matt has to do is ask questions and listen as HRG involuntarily thinks the answers.

Cool seeing Stan Lee, but I don't recall him ever being near Sylar. I did see him pick Hiro up at the end.

I hope we haven't seen the last of Claude, he's just too damn cool.

Speaking of pretty cool seeing Peter go ritgheously bad ass on Isaac after Isaac ratted him and Claude to the bad guys and screwed up his training.

I think Peter was doing the scary Sylar voice while using the telekenisis he aborbed from Sylar, not a sonic boom. Syalar used the same scary voice when he killed Ears.

By the way I do get Isaac's rational for rattig Peter out but wasn't Isaac taking an awfully big chance that shooting Peter wouldn't be the thing that made him go nuclear, which would've killed him, Simone, and most of New York.

    by immortal_fish

In both the Kring interview on this site and a TV Guide issue a few weeks back it is confirmed that Eden did indeed off herself before Sylar had the chance to learn her power. There is the chance that the show has employed use of the voice simply for affect. However, if it is indeed an actual ability, then in order for both Peter and Sylar to each display use of the voice ability, Sylar must have attained it prior to gunning for Claire in TX. Else, how could Peter have picked it up unless from yet another character with the same ability besides Eden? Apart from Peter and Sylar, the show has been consistent in keeping powers exclusive. My hunch is it's just something used for affect.

Eric Roberts is an Academy Award Nominated Actor before they started giving away awards to such actresses for shedding clothing. By far, he is the most talented actor to have ever portrayed The Master. You fault him for the work he turned in that was committed to paper by the screenwriter. If you actually watched him in any other menacing role (like from CSI Miami) you'd have a better appreciation of the guy's range and what he could do in a Moffat penned script. Unfortunately, like many other Whovians (especially the knee-jerk ones who scream "Americanisation" at the TVM), you ignore this little fact to base your conclusions on. Point is, with proper writing, he'd be a kick-ass Master just as Paul McGann was a kick-ass Doctor who got shorted by Fox/BBC and later by RTD to go with his handpicked favorites for the role. If my opinion is out-of-step with the rest of Whodom, so be it because quite frankly, there's a lot of wankers in the fanbase (especially online) as evidenced by many of the opinions posted on OG. Roberts will kick-ass on *Heroes* just as he would on *NewWho* if the production team were less narrow-minded.

Can Peter control time yet? POLL!

    by aznbuddy

When Peter stopped the tazer darts in mid-air, we are led to believe that it is just the same TK power he used to stop Claude's staff before it flattened his face. But WAS it Telekinesis? If you watch it again, the sound of the tazer darts flinging to him slowed down as if winding down to a halt. They stopped in mid-air, frozen as if time stopped for those darts. The staff was vibrating in mid-air as if being held up by invisible hands, not so with the darts.

So, localized time-manipulation or telekinesis? You pick!

Bacci40: Hate on Stan if you want, but...

    by spyguy

...there are certainly others in the comics industry far more deserving of your loathing. Stan is a huckster, always has been, but that's part of what makes him an icon to a lot of fans. He's like the Bill Shatner of the Marvel Universe...cheesy and corny as hell, a little too self-pimping at times, but ultimately the guy you most want to hang out with.

You keep telling me to do "research," even though all the incidents you mention are fairly widely known. The thing is, not many people really care all that much if Stan doesn't reference Jack Kirby in every single interview for the FF movie, or doesn't mention Steve Ditko when talking about Doctor Octopus's creation on the SPIDER-MAN 2 DVD. Should he? Probably, but Stan knows there's no real way he can rewrite history and make himself the sole creator of all those characters because too much has been documented over the years, many times by Stan himself in articles or interviews.

If anything, you should directing your ire at Marvel for not including the words "Created by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby" or "Created by Stan Lee & Steve Ditko" in most of their comics and films. DC's just as guilty, though, which is why they didn't include "Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster" in Superman comics and films until a lawsuit forced them to do so.

    Excellent Episode

    by barron34

Jeph Loeb did a great job writing this episode. Very tightly written, lots of action, drama, and good payoffs. Well done.*****I am starting to like Mohinder better. He is idealistic and perhaps a bit naive, but he does need to smarten up. If he realistically survives Sylar, he might mature a bit as a character. His potential to develop an inhibitor could make him very powerful, and his obvious morals could make him the anti-HRG.****Sylar keeps getting better and better as a villain. He is obviously being written as a classic sociopath/serial killer who can not resist killing and displaying his power, even if it might expose him, as his killing Hearing Woman migtht have. Sylar is scary, and a great villain.****My guess on Peter's scar: Sylar scars him with his melting powers in their showdown. Claire's regeneration powers can not properly heal from another superpower like the Melting Power.*****

The people with powers are simply evolving naturally. Those that are related are more likely to have it because a parent was probably a carrier of the "defect" (for lack of a better word) if not a hero themselves.
The injections are solely for a radioactive trace for the League of Neutral/Pulp Faction to keep tabs on the injectees. It does not give anyone powers.
Chandra Sureesh was able to track "Heroes" down because they had donated blood to the Human Genome Project and he was using that database to search for ... whatever it is he found that indicates the presence of an anomaly. This is an interesting development because 1) we're not limited to 36 heroes, and 2) I was wondering how he was finding these people in the first place.
