Are You Ready For An AFTERWORLD Series??

Published at:  Feb 13, 2007 12:33:17 AM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Never heard of “Afterworld”? Me neither. It’s apparently an animated effort running on Anheuser-Busch’s new Bud TV broadband channel, and has a cool concept as described in Tuesday morning’s Hollywood Reporter:

"Afterworld" is about life on Earth after an inexplicable global event renders technology useless and 99% of the population missing. The story follows the adventures of Russell Shoemaker, who wakes up in New York after this event and is compelled to walk to Seattle in the faint hope that his wife and child have survived. He pieces together the complex mystery behind the global event while encountering survivors rebuilding society in strange, surprising ways.

Sony now has plans to use “Afterworld” in numerous contexts, including 13 half-hour TV episodes.

    by dr_nerdikus

in a little story that is called THE STAND. and in my view the best of the 1990's mini-series King produced.

So basically it's LEFT BEHIND meets THE STAND

    by triumph poops!

You know, I've read the books, seen the movies. So basically this simply sounds like a typical Hollywood attempt to merge two better and more successful properties into one, and then trying to claim its "original and new." Sounds a bit lame to me, especially given the existence OF the other properties already mining the same ground and already being out there. But to be nice, I hope Seattle man finds his family...

    The Tripods Trilogy?

    by chewbroccoli

The Stand? Definitely. Also, it has shades of The Tripods Trilogy (Google/Amazon search for more info) as well as possibly The Andromeda Strain (from Crichton). Both were published in the late 1960s. According to Wikipedia The Tripods Trilogy's rights are owned by Disney... any word on development?

    Hallelujah!!! The Rapture is coming!

    by bill brasky

Satan will now use all of earth's survivors as his own playthings. With 99% of humanity gone (including me, of course...hallelujah!) you will now reap what you have sewn. Abortionists! Communists! Islams!
    Here's to Bill Brasky!

    Easy.

    by radio1_mike

Actually I found a copy on DVD at my local B&N b&m. Nothing too special about the edition. Viewing it again, did make me with it was 1986 and watching it on my VCR.

I think it could be okay (afterworld) though.

What I'd really like is an animated Y: The series...

    HAHA...Talkbacks.

    by affleckwasthebomb

I pretty much agree with what everyone else has said, yet still can't help putting my nose in.
These sorts of story will always be around. I think that if you're going to make some thing like this at the minute you should make Y though.
Also Kings Stand is the best mini series of his work in my opinion.
And Y shouldn't be animated. Pointless it won't look as good as the books and if i need my pictures to move I can wiggle the book around.

The Quiet Earth does rock. As does The Stand

    by teamwak

In the Stand the fatality rate was 99.9%. With just a mere 99% there will be loads more people around (ish)

While Quiet Earth does indeed rock, Netflix has it, so it's anything but hard to find. Unless you want to purchase it. In that case, www.amazon.com.

Actually, if technology is useless, it's

    by fluffyunbound

SM Stirling's "Dies The Fire". Especially if it's in the Pacific Northwest. If guns also inexplicably don't work, and as a result a group of bicycle-riding guys with ornamental swords and fire axes are conquering the Willammette valley, I suggest a good copyright lawyer.

Already wrote this walking across the country for you loved one in a script called labor of love (in that case it was because his dead wife wanted him to -- or something).

The writing would have to be very good to make such a slow idea work

    Tech

    by alientoast

They need to define technology. Technically the wheel and arrow heads are technology. That could make for an interesting show...everyone throws rocks and sticks at eachother and wears the unsewn skins of animals! The climax of the season would be when the main villain gets ahold of stone hand-axes, giving him military dominance over mankind.
