Holy Crap! Movie Posters Just Got Cooler!!
Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here. This is one of those stories that isn’t about a specific film, but is instead about the advancement of one of my favorite peripheral aspects of filmgoing, the one-sheet. I have a pretty huge collection of movie posters. Sure, it’s nothing compared to the 37 billion that Harry has, but I’ve got far more than I can display at the moment, some in frames but most in tubes, and I love my movie posters. I think the great one-sheets are art on their own, removed from the films they advertise, and any time someone can bring something new to the table, I’m interested. What you’ll see if you follow the link below did indeed blow my mind as promised, and I am dying to see one of these up close. Follow all the links in the article. It’s worth it. There are some really great examples of this 3D hologram printing technology that this company has developed. Anyone wanna bet we see an AVATAR poster by these guys?
Hey Harry and Moriarty, I'm sending this cool news to both of you just to make sure one of you actually gets it and reads it. There is a new video technology being developed and it's simply amazing. Actually, that word can't really even describe this technoloies potential. According to this artical and video, James Cameron is all over this new technology. You can read the article and find links to the video examples which will blow your mind at the following website. CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL ARTICLE! CLICK HERE FOR A FULL GALLERY OF TEST POSTERS! CLICK HERE FOR THE BEST FULL-MOTION OF THE BUNCH! CLICK HERE FOR THE TERMINATOR POSTER THEY MADE FOR JAMES CAMERON! If you use this, call me INKMACHINE.

"They're not workin' for Santa anymore!" Wanna buy my one sheet?
-
Meh. It's okay.
-
I'm really fucking impressed. I mean it isn't like I didn't get hologram trading cards with comic books way back in the early 90s. Oh wait I did, next please.
-
So your trading cards had full-motion video on them, did they? Try clicking on that soccer link. Then show me the trading card that did that.
-
his eyes follow you. i think these fuckers are pretty boss looking.
-
is that they are full-color and don't have that "hologram" look to them. And they really move - not like those renticulated (sp?) "holo-cards." These posters are badass.
-
Neat. Wow, Mori... you're busy this morning!
-
While it is the best I've ever seen, it does look like an advanced form of the lenticular baseball cards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenticular
-
8 seconds of 3-D video on a movie poster WOW!
-
That Terminator Poster is awesome! I so want that!
-
Was cool as fuck, and Defo in that football one was simply fucking amazing...come on you Spurs.
-
SHIT!
-
Juhuuu, ha haahaaaa...that's great. Good thing to be prepared if things all of the sudden start moving while I'm you're advertised...
-
When is Harry's fucking animated doohickey gonna change?
-
I want an Avatar teaser poster, and about 1,000 shares of stock in XYZ RGB right now! That's pretty amazing, I can't get over how thin the material is and how clear the 8 seconds of hologram is. I can see why Cameron was so blown away by this. Come on Cameron! Be the first to come out with a one sheet for this tech, there's got to be an Avatar teaser concept for this material that can be used.
-
Seriously, though - they ARE pretty cool.
-
would be nice I think. maby like that football one but with Darth Vader taking his light sabre out and waving it around a bit or maby his burnt cock? just a thought.
-
Afraid not! I work for XYZimaging. These are film based posters that have 1280 frames of video imbedded into the film via coloured pulse lasers. We can put video or CG files into these "VIDEO POSTERS" They are NOT holograms...not in the traditional sense anyway. This is literally 8-12 seconds of video in a peice of plastic that's no thicker than a peice of paper. All you need is cool content and a light source.
-
...the Brothers Hildebrandt, and they're looking for a job.
-
This is around 1mm thin and can do 8 seconds without the "lenticular" blur effect. You guys don't know what you're talking about when you're calling this old technology. That's like looking at the computers today and comparing them to the computers of 1985 and saying "what... I had a computer back then" ... this is from the wiki on lenticular - "The combined effect can be used to show two or more different images simply by changing the angle one views the print from. If you use more images, taken in a sequence (30+), one can even show a short video of about one second. "
-
Where do I sign up to by stock in XYZRGB? :) Congrats to all of you guys!
-
Will these new cool as hell posters be the death of Lenticular technology? I will be said to see the demise of that word.<p>P.S. That Terminator poster is amazing. I would totally steal that one.
-
Is it that sort of design has been around since the 1980s in a smaller form. Whats the next big news DVD movie discs jesus
-
Not as cool as a paintbrush in competent hands, though.
-
....Even with this cool technology... All kidding aside it looks cool, as long as they don't tack on $5 extra bucks to my movie ticket....
-
It must be hard to live in a world where you're so much better than everything, and it takes a nuclear fucking blast to impress you. You must be a real joy at parties.
-
the New Years flash graphic is dun worn out. It's too late for Valentines Day, but we're still over a week away from Ash Wednesday, there's lot's of funny stuff you could do with that, you know, with the ashes...and the wednesday...well, there's Washington's birthday.

Kind of cool, but a pain to view in a theater lobby.
by ExcaliburFfolkes
Who has the time to walk back and forth in front of each and every one of these things to see what they do? Plus, logistically it's chaos when numerous people try to do that in a crowded lobby. Save the clips and trailers for viewing in the theater before the show or online at home.
-
...in the middle of the night, it would scare the dogshit out of me. Can't wait to see some 3-D MAN CATS!, though.
-
Sorry, but as of yet we are still very much a private company...hopefully we'll be big enough to be selling stocks and shares soon.
-
Even through video, the effect is impressive. Hope they push this stuff foward.
-
anyone have another source?
-
Seriously.... I know that this is geek-cool because geeks are suckas for holograms as witnessed by the nineties comic cover fad (oh wait those sucked).
-
haha, trust me, I already know. I tried looking up the companies ticker symbol the minute I saw this article. Good luck with the tech and keep up the good work. Can't wait to see the first one-sheets at the theater.
-
It still scares the doo doo out of people who haven't seen it before. That thing hops out of the wall and "BOO!" That being said, these look incredible and remind me of some "Back to the Future Part II" Jaws 19 thing.
-
Now where did I park my flying car?
-
the first thing i thought of was def the BTTF II Jaws advertisement also. can't wait for giant fake sharks trying to eat me, so i can scream and cower, just to follow it up with "Shark still looks fake"
-
You know it's true.
-
Yeah, they are kinda neat. But, I'd rather have a painted poster or a flat screen monitor with a "teaser" video - or both interspersed.
-
That is the idea deCypher. The movie posters will have a teaser video in them. And after they get returned from they're spot in theaters...they will be sold to the public.
-
That has to be the most fucking amazing thing I have EVER seen. I wonder what that stuff costs to print in bulk?
-
...will audiences be able to watch this for two hours without getting a headache?
-
pretty soon it's gonna be like fucking "Minority Report". if this technology is perfected, we won't be able to walk down a hallway without seeing a million of these fuckers.
-
What are you talking about? This is a poster...it is a 12 second video...NOT a feature film. It's advertising man. You hang it on a wall and people walk by it and say...Wow..cool poster....they don't sit down in front of it with a bag of popcorn and then review it. LOL...I think you missed something somewhere.
-
Even you aren't safe from the wormhole that is the (cue creepy music).....AICN TALKBACK TIMEWARP!!!<p> Muahahahahaha!<p> Ok seriously though...I'd punch my grandma for a room full of posters like these. Of my favorite 8 seconds long scenes ever of course!
-
to go up a buck or two to pay for this stuff.
-
That is so fekin' cool! "Meee Wantieeeeeee!"....
-
If I saw that T2 poster on a bus stop in the middle of the night, it would be gone in less then 60 seconds.
-
The 3D effect with the horses look amazing.
-
Yeah - look for "Avatar" to boast this 3-d poster. Guaran-damn-tee it.
-
For Your Consideration? It has one of the funniest poster design presentations (for Home for Purim) that I have ever seen. Sorry to be slightly unrelated to the topic, I'm looking forward to looking into this, but I'm at work right now and can't. I thought of that scene and it made me smile.
-
Sorry, couldn't help myself.
-
Just get me a poster of the 8 seconds of that scene from Blade Runner of the Spinner passing that large geshia advirt, or any scene from ALIEN.
-
that fly would buzz all around

The T-800's gotta eat Cameron's cooked books too soon!

Savvy?
-
That Terminator poster kicks me in the nuts...HARD!
-
Jesus Christ, Abe Lincoln, and James Brown could rise from the grave, form a rock band, and cure cancer with inspirational music about love, ladies, and log cabins and some nerd who is simply too embarrassed to actually *GASP* agree with popular opinion would say "Eh. What's the big deal. Last I checked, those guys already lived once before. And HELLO, I already have a copy of Abbey Road. Next please. *YAWN*." Actually, it's not that they're cynics. They're just being disagreeable douches. These posters look f'n tight-sweet.
-

-
That movie poster weblog where this hologram movie poster story came from is really great: http://www.posterwire.com/archives/2007/02/07/3d-movie-posters/
-
...I just don't remember his character in T2 though. Was he in the mall scene?
-
...will be when they move like those wicked harry potter photos. that'd be like art imitating art!
-
Will be fucking awesome. Like the mall in Minority Report - or those paintings in Harry Potter for that matter. <br/> Spectacular
-
Now that I actually SEE the examples they look great. The page does not, however, work in Firefox so you might want to fix that, as many potential clients will be using that browser.
-
I thought these would've been out years ago...
-
First off, those are awesome!!! I highly doubt the video even begins to do them justice, they'll kick you in the nuts when you see them in person. Second, thank you to MC Vamp. I too love the cynics, who say "Big deal, I had a rainbow colored hologram sticker of a unicorn on my Trapper Keeper, this is the same thing". Third, the Terminator endo-skeleton is absolutely tired, frickin everyone uses that damn thing. AAAAAANNNNNDDDDD finally, while I love this idea, I will not be happy when one of these things scares the duce out of me at 6:00am in a dimmly lit theatre hallway.
-
These are cool large holograms, but not movie posters. When they start to appear in the local multiplex (many years from now), then that will be cool.
-
I've seen that T2 poster (and the video for it) months, if not a year ago. Anyway, it is cool news, if they're finally in development. I probably saw it on Digg or Fark, now that I think about it.
-
The Terminator poster is cooler than anything. Filmstudios should start making them right now. Considering what kind of crap they come up with and how much that costs, posters like them would be well spend money.
-
Just imagine the awesomeness. Beowulf standing in the foreground on rocky terrain with small trees and snow like that concept art, he is facing the dragon breathing fire, the fire having this cool 3d-effect. Shit. That´s enough to sell the movie to anyone passing by.
-
But nothing beats Drew Struzan in my book.
-
You dammmmmn right. Painted posters in general. Photoshop has destroyed the movie poster as a memorable art form. There won't be museum collections and book volumes dedicated to "Best of the Scream Rip-Off Variants, 1996-2000" or "Interpretations of Julia Roberts Bitmaps, 1990-2010."
-
Expect movie tickets to rise in price to support this type of thing.Wasn't it Cameron who wanted ticket prices to go up a couple of years ago?
-
And don't forget that the transition from DVD to HDDVD/Blu-Ray involves a not-so subtle price jump of 5 to 15 dollars per DVD purchase, which won't be dropping until well after the resolution of the format war. But hey, millionaire gotta eat... (There! I used it!)
-
Fucking another noob with a video camera kick the fat guy in the bollocks then flim it. fucking people need to learn ! i don't want to see something if its runied,
-
Seriously, Cool As Fuck <p> Me want NOW
-
So how long before we have a 3D 8-12 second version of Harry's nude fat ass riding the pole? Oh and it's not lenticular of course. Of course.
-
bastard.
-
I've designed some lenticular posters with 3D and movement before, and I've never seen anything like these. Whatever they're doing, it's lightyears beyond the faux-3D lenticulars everyone else has.
-
Its called thinking ahead. Try it sometime, if you can. It just so happens that Cameron is using a similar system to create "Avalon." You may return to watching your cartoons.
-
I have to say this is one of the coolest things I've seen in a LONG time. The future is now.
-
Those are pretty awesome...
-
I'm just sayin'....
-
Just. Wow.
-
Get over yourselves. This shit is rad and you know it. Bow down to the future... of marketing, atleast.
-
I want to see this with something like Hostel or Saw
-
That poster gave it to my childhood harder than Star Wars: Every Cock In The Universe Up My Ass - The Prequel Trilogy. Just gimme a Carmen Electra poster, and leave me the fuck alone. George Lucas, step away from the technology, you half-assed hack motherfucker.
-
This 'story' has been around long before this adverblog got a hold of it. Shilling poster reprints for Allposter.com and fake autographed movie posters on eBay ruins any credibility, particularly when most of its 'content' is borrowed from other sources.
-
"Crappy pseudo-3D posters." Yup. That's new. Will join Smellovision in, oh... 8 years?
-
over a lame "3D" photoposter.
-
if you can spare one.
-
Ok, his work is kinda timeless, but this holoshit is cool...just don't expect it to be commercially viable for the next 10 to 20 years though.
-
AICN just killed their bandwidth... Way to go Mori!
-
the first one at the end where rufus gives them the CD to sign, those posters look just like that CD,that would be cool if they did a poster like that CD cover.
-
I am sure these will be a cash cow for the consumer market place. The studios would be foolish not to cash in. Anyway to find out how much these will cost for the general public? I would love to own that Terminator one.
-
There it is - the future. Buy your stock now.
-
"Due to an incredible surge in bandwidth use on this restricted page, we have removed this video." Give your download manager this: http://www.xyzrgb.com/holos/terminator.swf
-
Your description of the theoretical 3D Beowulf poster made me cream my jeans.
-
I don't wanna be walking down the street and then having to duck as Adrien Brody's giant nose lurches out at me...
-
"Avatar" not "Avalon", or are you thinking ahead to a sequel?
-
First you make an ass out of yourself by trying to sound like you know what your talking about and then you try to retort with another stupid comment. Just turn off your computer and walk away. It's for your own good. Or should I say "pwned" good? Snap!! Oh yeah, the soccer poster looks wicked cool. How much does one of those posters go for? One of Jessica Alba dancing from Sin City would be AMAZING!!!
-
I thought I'd missed the boat. Damn that is amazing.
-
Any relation to Cuban Pete from the TFans boards? Just curious.
-
Yes, you're right. "Avatar" is the animated movie. Most people understood what I meant. Though, if "AVALON" makes a ton of money, I don't doubt there will be a sequel. And its one "p" not two.
-
Nuff said, fanboy.
-
Absolutely phenomenal work. Very Minority Report. My only concern for limitation of maximum potential for this technology (ie billboards, buildings) is that moving video is already restricted as a hazard to all vehicular transport.
-
I knew what I was talking about. You didn't. Who's the idiot?
-
...trying to find things to complain about on this proves that that there are those that will NEVER be impressed by ANYTHING.
-
Posters are not paid for by the theatres, they are part of the films advertising budget, that's why if you read the fine print on any authentic poster (i.e. the ones in a theatre, not reproductions from allposters or Suncoast) they state that they are the peoperty of the studio blah blah blah. This also wouldn't raise film price because that is not how the business model for the industry works. The studios take a percentage of box office on top of a flat rate for the print, these posters would undoubtedly mean more box office, therefore more revenue so it's a cost/profit tradeoff situation. I'd expect to see them by summer.
-
This has nothing to do with the process for "Avatar". These posters are made from a DIGITAL 3D source, in other words CGI. There may be a scanning procees used in "Avatar" similar to what this company uses but that has nothing to do with the poster technology. Please don't bother to reply because A) it's past your bedtime. and B) your response would be pathetic and someone else will just rip you a new dirt chute.
-
UnCapie is kidding. He made a typical cynical, hater/complainer response. Then, when he was unnecessarily corrected, he made a pompous yet dreadfully misinformed retort. I saw it as sarcasm from the very beginning.
-
who gives a shit stfu already uncappie made a mistake and owned up to it grow the fuck up already
-
no. Don't know Cuban Pete, but he's clearly a man of good sense in choosing nomme de plumes.
-
Really nice stuff!

by Triumph poops!
Unfortunately, BannedontheRun, that's the part of the equation we can always count on Hollywood suits and bean counters to completely fuck up...
-
http://www.xyzrgb.com/newsletter/holos/newsletter/newsletter.html They are great things but they sure ain't cheap! They are kinda like reflection holograms and require a specific kind of light source which is included. Something the size of the terminator would prob cost about 5000 bucks at the moment. They look stunning on the wall!
-
Dunno why all the spaces appeared http://www.xyzrgb.com/newsletter/holos/newsletter/newsletter.html
-
ah balls - you can sort it out. delete the spaces
-
And all you gotta do is shimmy back and forth. You can watch the beatdown for free all motherfucking day. Brilliant. I didn't get to see a lot of them because the links were taken down, but the one's I've gotten to see are goddamn incredible.
-
The world is NOT READY to handle this AWESOMENESS!!! Once these are in theatres, pretty soon they'll be on everything!!! DVD covers!!! Music CDS!!!! I can't walk through an HMV anymore without all the merchandise moving, shaking and calling out to me like some holographic nightmare!!! THE WORLD IS NOT READY!!!! YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!
