A pianist and that cute, naked Japanese chick from Babel have joined THE BROTHERS BLOOM!!!!

Published at:  Feb 06, 2007 2:10:35 AM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a bit of casting news on Rian Johnson's follow-up to his fantastic debut feature BRICK. The flick is called THE BROTHERS BLOOM and I just got my hands on the most recent draft. I read through it and very little has changed from the already fantastic first draft.

The flick is about a pair of con artist brothers... genius' really. They have intricate plans, mindblowingly intricate, yet not out of this world. One is very satisfied with the life they've led and one feels something is lacking. This is their story and going through the script I was floored by how well Johnson balanced out the heist aspect, hiding certain threads and revealing them at just the right time.

Already cast is the delectable Rachel Weisz as Penelope, super rich heiress target for the current plot by the brothers.

Joining her are Adrien Brody as Bloom, the younger troubled brother, and Rinko Kikuchi (Babel) as a mysterious and silent partner in the brothers' efforts.

The cast is coming together wonderfully and I can't wait to see this script made. It's great, a total throw-back to the wonderful '70s fun heist flicks. This is good news.

Uwe Boll is God compared to Brick

    by montypigeon

I will never sit through that shit again, thank the Lord. It makes Uwe Boll look like a film maker, its that attrocious. One of those rare moments when you would gladly sit through Titanic all day than even watch one second from Brick. Little Miss Sunshine may be overrated but compared to Brick, its the best film ever made. One of the worst viewing moments I have ever had with any film anywhere. Complete and utter f*****g garbage pretending to be a film.

What ire against Brick...it had elements of pretentiousness but I thought it was pretty sweet, mainly Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Brendan. This movie, meanwhile, is sounding sweet-tastic.

Not a big fan of Rachel Weisz

    by ribbons

I know that Darren Aronofsky's married to her and that therefore means she is objective awesome and beautiful or whatever, but sill, I'm feeling a little bit of backlash towards all the "and the super-hot wowee zowee fofowee Rachel Weisz" comments. She's certainly pretty, and she's a strong actress, but it's not like her mere presence in this movie proves it's going to be good. I did really like 'Brick' though.

Brick: the best film of 2006

    by beamish13

"Pretentious"? are you people nuts, or do you just not comprehend the meaning of that word? The film made perfect sense, it was stylish, funny, filled with memorable characters, and had some amazing editing. The fact that it was made for half a mill illustrates how very, very talented Johnson is. I was lucky enough to see it at the Aero theatre in Santa Monica, and I had goosebumps just thinking about his film for weeks afterwards.
