Adventure Has... A Release Date?!

Published at:  Feb 06, 2007 1:23:58 AM CST

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

That’s what Box Office Mojo is saying:

If you hadn’t already heard…

“BOX OFFICE MOJO NEWS BULLETIN

Paramount Pictures has set Thursday, May 22, 2008 for the release of the next Indiana Jones movie, which the studio is now officially referring to as the 'Fourth Installment of the Indiana Jones Adventures.' The picture maintains the Memorial Day weekend release strategy of the last two Indiana Jones movies, and it mirrors the last two 'Star Wars' movies and 'The Matrix Reloaded' with its Thursday launch.

Also currently scheduled for Memorial Day weekend 2008 is Warner Bros.' 'Speed Racer.' Two other event-style pictures have previously staked out May 2008 releases dates: Paramount 's 'Iron Man' (May 2) and Buena Vista 's 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian' (May 16).”

Cheers!

Hopefully Ford has the sense to walk out on this

    by doc_strange

The third film ended perfectly so why is there a need to even go there again? I could buy Stallone doing one more Rocky but he was in shape. Ford, however looks pretty damn old and it just wouldn't look right. Hell he practically looks like the old Indy from the TV series. I hope they go with the CG whip so they can just put a final end to this already, damn.

I am really excited about this movie.

It just better not be the big let down like the Star Wars prequels.

    Anyone else think

    by instant_karma

'Fourth Installment of the Indiana Jones Adventures' sounds suspiciously open-ended. As in, not saying this will be the last Indy movie.

Maybe the CGI whip story was a way of introducing the idea of the film going ahead with somebody other than Ford in the title roll, so they can crank a few more of these out.

    by anna valerious

Fantasy novels and Comic Book adaptations are all well and good, but "Speed Racer" could open the floodgates for more live-action films based on anime. WB is actually considering doing an English-language remake of "Death Note" as we speak, so don't be surprised if that shows up with EVA and "Monster", if it ever comes out.

    to answer your question, Marmot:

    by newc0253

no. I loved Temple of Doom but it's actually a prequel. Last Crusade, on the other hand, was easily the weakest of the trilogy: a tired retread of the first film with some father-son dynamics thrown in for comic relief.

.. good but was the weakest. Yeah, doom had cheesey dialog but the action .... the entire second half was pure adrenaline! Bring it on! Love me some Indy films. Yeah, he's old but this might be the spark old harry needs to bring it back. Been let too long by Ford and his choices .... this could be the new beginning! Fingers crossed.

newc0253, Temple of Doom is not a prequel.

    by one9deuce

It has nothing to do storywise with Raiders of the Lost Ark. Lucas wanted the opening of the films to take place in Shanghai, but China lost The Battle of Shanghai to Japan in 1937. So they could set it in 1936 like Raiders or just set it in 1935. And you couldn't be more right about Last Crusade, it is so incredibly mediocre compared to the first two. It's not even an adventure movie, and Indiana Jones doesn't act anything like Indiana Jones. This fourth one (IF it happens) can't possibly be worse than Last Crusade.

    Ford And Indy 4

    by barron34

I am a fan of both Ford and the Indiana Jones movies, of course, but I am not certain I need to see another Indy movie at this late date. In my opinion, Ford needs to re-invent his movie career much in the same way that Clint Eastwood put a coda on his career with UNFORGIVEN. In other words, he needs to play his age, rather than trying to re-capture past action hero glories. I really would rather see Ford in something original rather than him going back to the Indiana Jones well one more time. I have long thought that Ford should do a straight-ahead Western, playing the kind of role that Duvall or Eastwood does so well. Ford has the same character as a lot of the great Western stars of old, but has done relatively little in a genre he seems made for. A well-aged gunfighter or a sheriff or marshall that comes out of retirement to fight an old enemy or some-such is a much more age appropriate and dignified kind of role for Ford, and the type that could really open up a new chapter for his career, especially if Spielberg is involved. I hope the new Indy movie is a success, of course, but I can't help but feel that I would rather see something else from these talented film-makers.

    by kiwimetal

If I set a complete blue or green set during a 'making of' feature for the film, I ain't gonna go and watch Indy talk to a tennis ball pretending its an actor while balancing on an imaginary cliff top ledge, while also trying to escape the bad guys using his trusty C.G.I whip! Phew i'm outta breath...

    Steven Spielberg

    by one9deuce

It has been a few years since he has had a real cultural touchstone film. I personally have liked all his work since Saving Private Ryan (his last film that transcended the film world) with Catch Me if You Can and Munich being his best work and A.I. Artificial Intelligence and War of the Worlds being the lesser films in that time. I am still a little shocked at just how much of a missed opportunity WotW was. I just watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial back to back, and Spielberg and aliens/UFO's is a great combo. He did the benevolent aliens so perfectly, but wasn't quite as successful with the invading aliens. It came off as more of a star vehicle for Tom Cruise, and worse, the whole "they're already here" aspect just didn't work. Nor did I care for the "through Ray's eyes" aspect of the story. Spielberg should have went all out with an alien invasion film instead of using a story aspect that M. Night Shyamalan had already just used in Signs. I guess what I am really hoping for is a great one-two punch from Spielberg. He is exceptionally good at delivering two great films back to back, and he has already done a great adventure film followed by a great sci-fi film twice in his career. Jaws followed by Close Encounters and Raiders of the Lost Ark followed by E.T. I just hope he does it again with Indiana Jones 4 followed by Interstellar.

    by emeraldboy

to make a film. Spielbergs decision to rush produce movies is annoying. If you rush movies or anthing else, you screw things up. Spielberg, i know is not capable of doing that, it sets a dangerous precedent. If he is doing it then others will try. by rushing this one, he may well screw it up and i dont want that to happen. Just take the time, do it properly and give indy the great send off he deserves. I am worried that they are going in murch darker direction with this final installment, the indy movies are rollicking adventures stories. Theologising indy, would be a huge mistake.

    by emeraldboy

I wasnt that big a an of Munich(i liked the opening very much) and AI bored me rigid. The best films that spielberg has made are all in the past, Jaws, duel, Et, Close enounters. Schindlers list, once was enough for me. Ryan had some very powerful images in it, the scene where the german soldier is hunting the jewish soldier is really one of the most terrifiying moments in a spielberg movie.
