THE SIGNAL trailer broadcasts on to the web, this looks great!

Published at:  Feb 03, 2007 4:15:49 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here - You saw Rav and Quint rave about THE SIGNAL from their Sundance reporting - we know that Magnolia Pictures picked the film up... as they did with the brilliant THE HOST and the very fun SEVERANCE. Seems Magnolia is doing a good job of picking up really good indie genre projects for us that loves them. I love this trailer - which along with ACROSS THE UNIVERSE - gives me a reason to be very optimistic about my cinematic future entertainments, what say ye?

Of course, compared to Pulse, that's not hard to accomplish. But at least Pulse had Kristen Bell to look at...

'Severance' is absolutely dire and so wants to be...

    by workshed

...another 'Dog Soldiers' or 'The Descent' yet posesses none of the flair, wit, twists, darkness and great ensemble performances that so marked those two movies.

Take it from a Brit... the film to see this year is 'This Is England' - Shane Meadows at his absolute best and a film that sticks in the memory long after you have departed the cinema.

    Severence was dire.

    by instant_karma

And The Host is a jumbled mess, trying to jump back and forward between genres all the time. It could've been one the all time great monster movies if it had just kept the tone that it had in the first 15 minutes.

So, does this have levitating telepathic zombies as well?

Why Is it dated "2007" then?

    by vwantsrevenge

King finished "The Cell" in 2005. How the fuck can the movie predate that if it was made in 2006? Looks like a big damn ripoff to me, and if it didn't, no one would mention the fact that IT DOES. In the first one minute of the trailer the first thing that popped in my mind was "Hmmmm... looks like The Cell." Call it like it fucking is, don't be a pussy.

    Perfect Day

    by psychonaut

This looks rather good; a horror movie with a little thought put into it. Bonus points for using Perfect Day on the trailer as well. And is it possible that the maker's started making (or at least writing the movie) without having heard of Cell? I hadn't heard of it until I started reading this talkback. Mind you, the last Steven King book that I did hear about was It. Has he written some other stuff then?

A film's release date does not dictate the year it was made. Films take a long time to make, starting from script it takes years. Adding to that, low budget films often take more than a year or two to make so it's quite possible that the makers of The Signal got the idea on paper before King did. As a film fan you should know this stuff.

TERRIBLE TRAILER... "CELL" KING'S BEST IN AWHILE

    by moto

That was just a terrible trailer. Depicted nearly NOTHING about what the film is about and what struggle the characters are going through. For the record, "CELL" is King's best in years. Anyone who calls it a zombie/Dawn of the Dead ripoff is an idiot BECAUSE King dedicates the damn book to George Romero, thus saying "Hey, this is my own take/nod to Romero's genre." It's a damn fine book and will hopefully get made into a damn fine movie. King was back to form in "Cell".

Yeah, gotta agree with the above posters...

    by halcyonseven

APPEARED (note I say "appeared" not "is" since I have not seen the movie) really derivative of 28 days later and the Danny Boyle style. So this trailer gets - 25 points for incredible lack of originality.
Might be a good flick though. But this trailer sure as hell doesn't make me wanna go see it.
Now when they get done with the movie version of CELL I will be there in a FUCKING heart beat. Great read, very good classic King. I mean it's not Shakespeare, but then again, its not supposed to be.

    by aceillk

...even if the CELL is King's greatest work, they will just fuck up the movie. Bastards. As for this flick, I'll keep the hopes high, but the trailer doesn't qiute do if for me.

    So how is this not...

    by childe roland

...Stephen King's The Pulse (or whatever that not-quite-a-zombie-apocalypse brought on by cell phones book of his was? Isn't Roth still making that movie? I'm willing to bet a thousand American dollars right now that this movie kicks the pants off that one, ass the combined cinematic track record (in terms of quality) for King and Roth should be enough to make any studio exec consider suicide.

    my movie. our movie.

    by ajbowen

yeah so thanks and shit for liking it and hating it. hopefully we'll live up to both of those expectations. this trailer was actually on youtube before the cell came out i believe. and i know it was written before, as i had to memorize my lines and be covered in sick well before the book came out, but any time you can be thinking about similar ideas with people like stephen king that's gotta be pretty awesome. in retrospect, though, i kinda wished we'd of done a shot for shot remake of the David Hasselhoff and Linda Blair classic 'Bail Out'. that would have been sweet.

God that's depressing, and pretty derivative

    by killakane

Note: the appropriation of 'death by fire extinguisher' from Irreversible.
Agree with the Boyle template comparisons made by TB-ers. Not convinced of much apart from the inherant indie patina and a shit-load of random ultra-violence (lowest common denominator marketing really).
