Nonetheless, I thought you folks might wanna give this a try for yourselves; hopefully you'll have better luck than I did.
And, yes, Ratner is back. While a few of you will be thrilled to hear this...most won't. In his defense, he does seem to handle this genre better than, say, thrillers, comic book action, or nearly anything else.

Can't hate a guy who keeps on hiring Maestro Lalo to do his scores. DIRTY HARRY was three hundred different levels of funky, and of course ENTER THE DRAGON. There's worse directors, I'll give him that. And he had nothing to do with HEARTBREAKERS whatsoever, so that's good for brownie points. And was that the cop who can't drive from Luc Besson's TAXI movies driving in the trailer? If anything's going to be good about this, it's the throwaway gags like that one. Hopefully Polanski plays an elementary school teacher.

What are you clicking on, exactly? I right-clicked on the one that said "HI" and saved a .MOV file to my desktop. Opened it in VLC and it played with no difficulty whatsoever - it's an AVC (aka H264) codec in an MOV file, nothing odd about it. Opening it in Quicktime was similarly painless. Perhaps try renaming it as a .mp4 file. Or just get VLC from videolan.org, it's essential movie geek equipment anyway.

I mean, Rush Hour I and II were funny. No one is calling him the next Kubrick, but he makes solid movies. We know that he HAD to salvage X-Men III, which could have been sooooo much worst. Blame for X-III falls under FOX, Halle Berry, and yes....sorry to say this Brian Singer who left his baby for the lure of Superman, which was awful also.

I would have liked to see Superman done as it was intended in the beginning: Directed by Ratner and X3 as it was intended: Directed by Singer. I dont know why they shuffle those 2 around. Superman would have been more action oriented and vibrant and X3 would have had a decent ending of the trilogy.

He does three movies in ten years. He kicks back until Rush Hour 2--gets the 20 million he demands. Doesn't do a GODDAMN thing for the next five years (to my knowledge) until Rush Hour 3; and demands MORE money. You know what? He could demand 40 million, and they WOULD give it too him. Then he finishes filming, and heads home with his money, and lives the easy life ONCE more. Waits until something comes along that he wants to do. The Rush Hour movies are the best thing he's ever done. Every other genre he's tried has sucked. I have never been less scared of hanibal Lecter and Ed Norton has never been worse. Also, if you are going to move a giant bridge in order to get to a little kid and kill him, why would you not just move that bridge a few yards more and crush the building the kid is in instead of stopping short a few yards and engaging in hand to hand combat. I know that stupid plot points are not directly Ratner's fault but I still think he's a hack. I'm sure some of it is jealousy, but the wierd thing is, i don't find myself feeling Jealous of james Cameron, I'm more in awe of him. Thank you.

But, as much fun as it is to stomp on the Rat, and it's fun, listening to the POLICE STORY commentary he layed down recently for the Weinstein's worthwhile release of that film, the guy clearly means well, and he clearly thinks the world of Jackie Chan. France has been spewing out remarkably solid action flicks lately, so maybe some of that magic will rub off on RH3. If the rumblings about Gordon Liu as the main villain are true - well, nobody wants THAT to suck, hopefully. Brett, you big dumb lug, if you don't hook up a Jackie Chan-Gordon Liu throwdown for the ages, I will jump into the lens of the projector and actually travel back in time via the traces of dye and silver in the film itself, jump out of the lens of the camera, freeze time so Jackie Chan can't disembowel me, and stomp on your cock 'till it's flatter than an ancient parchment, before restoring the natural flow of time and returning to the present the same way I went to the past, leaving only bloody footprints and unbearable agony in my wake. My safety is guaranteed, I have done this once before. Ask Stanley Tong about what happened as a result of the lack of a massive Yuen Wah-Michelle Yeoh-Jackie Chan free-for-all in SUPERCOP. Sorry, I don't understand the hate for "The Rat" either, but I'm more mystefied by the fact that he is apparently marqee material now. Since when does anyone who has enjoyed any of his movies really associate BRETT RATNER with them? Do you think people look at Rush Hour 2 in the video store and say "Cool, Brett Ratner directed this one too, kick ass!" Uh, no. No, it was furthered by this sight. ratner started taking heat after he did red Dragon and then started showing up on interviews. The guy acts like a spoiled ten year old and that's okay as long as he sticks to stuff we don't really care about. then his name got attached to Superman and the hate came out. Also, movies are subjective, everyone's taste is their own. That being said, x3 blows and everyone who liked it is an idiot. Just kidding kids. I also hate T3, Never ending Story 2, Aliens 3 through everything else..... sorry, bored.

I don't know much about Ratner as a person. I actually like the Rush Hour series. I think they're fun and enjoyable popcorn fare. As for Red Dragon, I actually liked it. I'm not necessarily lauding it with praises or whatever...but I enjoyed it.

The guy kidnapping the little girl in part one says to the driver "Sorry, rush hour", before he caps him. As for the films, they're perfectly entertaining, and Ratner's non-existant style is perfect for these types of undemanding programmers. That said, I'd rather see Shanghai Dawn instead.

You should be judging movies only by the final product you see, taking no consideration into the circumstances in which they were made. That's all speculation.
X3 was alright, but for you ro put it above Superman Returns, and imply it as equal or exceeding X2, is just....well, nuts to me. The way they shoveled all those characters into X3 reminded me of the second Mortal Kombat movie (what was the point of Juggernaut...?...why not save him for when he can actually be a character?), and there was no story, just a million things going on at the same time (Archangel was just.....there.), not to mention plot holes galore (why were the guns plastic but not the needles, fools?). X3 turned out alright....I liked it even though most of my friends hated it.....but it';s no X2 imo. -
i do respect your opinion, but i have to disagree with you by saying that x1 had no story. well i do feel the same way about x3.
i know that bryan singer is not a comic book fan and there were some mistakes that were made on the first two x men movies (and superman), but i do happen to enjoy the paced of both films(superman is another story). x1 made me care about the characters a bit more then it should've had, and unfortunally the ending of that movie was very dissapointing and anticlimatic, but it more then made up on x2 where the story finally fully develop and it put those characters in such peril that was exciting to watch from begining to end... x3 on the other hand, was just completly bad, characters came in and went by without any worth to them and the plot was just becoming too derivitive. now i dont know if it was the studio or the director to blame, but if ratner was serious about this movie, he would have put more input to satify the fans and not the studio, and thats why the movie fails completly.. ps: i did enjoy superman more then x3 by the way -

brett ratner as always lacks style or vision, he basically copies to much from other directors, specially when it comes to sequels.. red dragon looks like a corbon copy of silence of the lambs, from the way he is telling the story to the way he filmed the actors, and for this reason alone, he made a very dull movie, granted it had some decent scenes, but nothing original or exciting, just dull.. like i said, manhunter is by far a better movie

makes him a mediocre director; it's his execution of the material that he's handed. Back in the old studio era, Howard Hawks, Frank Capra and Ruben Mamoulian didn't have distinct visual styles either, but their vision came through in their material and their execution of the story-telling. That's where Ratner is mediocre not horrible. He's good as long as he has a brilliant script and a good cast at the top of their game. Anything short of that and his projects' potential is limited.
I'm curious what he could do with a screenplay by Scott Frank, William Broyles (Zemeckis' go-to writer), or William Goldman. -

Transformers is not a "shitty" franchise. Any property can can sustain popularity for over two decades is not shitty. It began as a children's cartoon and a toy line, yes, but it is not shitty. Transformers kicks absolute ass.
As for Brett Ratner, I've already said that he seems like a cool guy. As far as his movies go I loved Rush Hour 1-2 and enjoyed X3. I haven't see any of his other movies. The guy is a fan of movies like us, and I'm sure he'd make Transformers fans proud. -
This is coming from someone who HATED the film. The people responsible for the dip in quality are the writers, who weren't able to take the story in the direction it should have moved in, and Fox, who rushed the film into production. Ratner did a competent job of steering a ship that was never going to reach its destination. I'm still not entirely sure why some people hate RED DRAGON so much, but everyone is entitled to their opinion (even if their opinions are based on ignorance - yes, I'm an asshole).
