AVATAR!! MORK!!MARY HARTMAN!! MARY HARTMAN!! Herc’s Season-Box DVD Vault!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!

Though Nickelodeon only started transmitting Avatar: The Last Airbender
less than two years ago, M. Night Shyamalan has already announced that he is mounting a series of three live-action movies based on the highly-rated franchise.
Though animated in Korea, it’s actually an American production originating in Burbank, Calif. AICN’s own Moriarty says of the new set streeting today
:
… this show is smartly designed, and it’s written smart. There’s no talking down to an audience, at least not in the episodes I saw. … I was able to pick up with the first episode of season two and not feel like I was really missing anything. … the closest thing I’ve ever seen to Miyazaki on television. … It’s not an expensive show, but it’s so smartly stylized that the inexpensive animation never comes across as a negative. The show definitely has a sense of humor, but it also has some thrilling action scenes that are not just place-holders. There’s a sense that the show really is progressing, that these characters are growing. It’s all heading somewhere, and isn’t just some stagnant meandering repetition of a basic formula. None of the five episodes I saw struck me as being the same story, and that’s rare enough with this sort of program.
Read Moriarty’s entire review of the set here.

Hopeless Pictures
, also streeting today, is a zippy semi-improvisational 9-episode animated sitcom from the Independent Film Channel. It's about Mel Wax, the head of an independent film studio. Multi-episode arcs deal with an attempted hostile takeover, an out-of-control overseas production, and the collapse of Wax’s marriage. It stars Michael McKean, Jennifer Coolidge and Bob Balaban - three actors who have appeared in all of Christopher Guest’s fauz-documentaries – with support from Jonathan Katz (playing a professional therapist), Lisa Kudrow, Buck Henry, Martin Mull, Jerry Stiller, Anne Meara, John Michael Higgins, Paul Dooley, Emmy Laybourne, David L. Lander, Nora Ephron, Rob Reiner, Paul Weitz andPaul Reubens.

You can buy Walker: Texas Ranger: The Complete Second Season
, strap your DVD remote on a giant lever, and pretend you’re Conan O’Brien as you call up random scenes.
This completely awful martial-arts actioner was co-created by Paul Haggis, who wrote on tons of awful TV (“The Love Boat,” “Diff’rent Strokes,” “Who’s The Boss,” “Michael Hayes,” “Family Law”) for the first 50 years of his life, then went on to write two Oscar-winning scripts (“Million Dollar Baby” and “Crash”), as well as “Casino Royale,” “Flags of Our Fathers” and “Letters From Iwo Jima.”

Cupid Is Now Losing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by darth fabulous
Go here right now and vote, dammit!
http://www.sonypictures.com/homevideo/tvondvd/poll/ -
Speaking of DVD's, who the hell won that Alias DVD boxset contest? A winner was never announced.
Herc kept it for himself... -
Can anyone tell me why this box set does not exist? I will tell you why. People will stop eating. They will stop sleeping. The only thing they would ever be able to do for the rest of their lives will be watching Chuck.
-
and my adolescence and my adulthood. Why is this predator allowed to roam free?
-
I suppose you think you could reprint a press release, tack on a quote from elsewhere on this site, and then run 10 screens of Amazon links. It's not as easy as it looks.
-
Louise Lassiter used to freak me out as a child. I think I shit my pants a few times.
-
"It’s not an expensive show, but it’s so smartly stylized that the inexpensive animation never comes across as a negative."
I'm fairly certain that it costs at least 1 million dollars an episode. -

Only one choice is required. PICK CUPID DAMMIT! -
Complete. Oh thank fuck, that means it's over.
-
Can FERNWOOD TONIGHT be far behind?
-
Not really. I do like the theme song. Janice Dickinson used to look that good; now she's a old, hateful hag inside and out. The Odd Couple Season One?
Really, who's asking for this stuff? -
I like the Amazon links and often click on them, what's the big deal? It saves my lazy ass from having to type it in address bar.
-
What the hell is this 'Farce of the Penguins' thing?
-
i've looked over this item a couple of times. what am i missing?
-
I doubt we'll ever see FERNWOOD on DVD for the same reason we'll never see WKRP: music rights. Both shows were pure genius and both liberally used commercial music since home video wasn't even around when they were produced. The fact that very few people really remember either one (though more remember WKRP than FERNWOOD) means that the chances of seeing either are slim to none.
-
I've heard and seen rumors that WKRP is coming out on DVD in April, but without it being intact with the music it had when it was broadcast, it will be a soulless empty shell.
-

Wow, they're actually releasing season 5 of Newsradio?
by osmosis jones
No Phil = No Sale
-
My understanding was that Hugh Wilson was involved in helping pick out the replacement music for the DVD release.
Also, could someone teach Herc the "target="_new"" tag please?
How often can a person vote on the Cupid thing? -
i look foward to seeing more and dr strange looks promising...
-
Unrated season 1 comes out 2/6, according to Amazon at least. On widescreen no less!! KAMEHAMEHA!!!
-
Remember the German Shepard, what had all those adventures and suffered from flashbacks to Viet Nam?
-
According to IMDB Abrams and Lindelof cowrote an episode in the second season entitled "The Drill." I've been interested in watching AVATAR for a while, but that clinched it.
-
He says "I have AIDS Walker." True story.
-
i bought a bootleg set of WKRP discs from a guy online a few months ago -- all 90+ episodes, all original music, no commercials. granted, they look just like what they are -- dubbed from vhs tapes made in the 70s & 80s, but for $20 it was well worth the money. they will never release them on DVD because the licensing of the music would cost a fortune, so bootlegs are the only way to get that sweet WKRP fix.
-
He waits until Season 3 comes out on DVD.
-
Of course: www.chucknorrisfacts.com
-
They should put out Run Joe Run. Also, they should put out Electra Woman and Dyna Girl. Classic Kroft show.
-
Many thanks for all the low downs on those great dvd deals. You da man.
-
...and I mean Ace from the Ambiguously Gay Duo. Check it out.
-
It looks like the R1 DVDs are going to be pan&scan just like how BBCAmerica presented the series, unlike the letterbox format that SkyTV originally televised them in.
-
seriously... i thought thats what it said...
-
Any word?
-
yes, it sucks. don't know if it's out yet, but even if it was, it ain't worth buying.
-
I think Herc should put a link up every week for Desperate Housewives his favorite and the funniest show on TV!
-
...always. He does it like a champ.
-
Finally!
-
I can't believe it. Dabney Coleman and Louise Lasser were brilliant in it. Definitely one of the most subversive American TV shows of all time.
-
...would have been J. Jonah Jameson with Robert Guillome (sic) at his side as Joe "Robbie" Robertson. I always liked the idea of Telly Savallas as The Kingpin, but in the time that such a cast would have been possible (early to mid 90s), the CGI would not have been good enough to make him look 500 lbs realistically. But then again, Nikki Cox would have made a fine Mary Jane Watson back then.
-
It was yesterday!
-
Who was the Second-to-last Airbender?
-
About time they're releasing the "Untouchables." Great acting, directing and most of all stories! Fictional, true, but highly entertaining! Robert Stack delivered the goods!
-
My 70's cop fix will be satisfied, praise Baby Jesus (the Jesus I prefer, like Ricky Bobby) - ah, if only Stone and Keller had gone to Hawaii to work with McGarrett! Or if Magnum and McGarrett had cracked a case on the rock - sweet!
-
I'm surprised at how little press Avatar gets on this site. If this cartoon was made 20 years ago M. Night Shamalayn making the series into a movie would be the biggest thing since Peter Jackson and LotR. Fellow adult geeks: I recommend you check this show out. Watch a few episodes from the first and second seasons. The show has a more intricate story line and character development than 24 and Lost put together. It puts other "top adult" shows to shame.
