24!! NEWSRADIO!! ENTOURAGE!! BULLSHIT!! Herc’s Season-Box DVD Vault!!

Published at:  Jan 17, 2007 3:39:48 AM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Those who can’t wait for their TV shows to come to DVD will be excited to learn that Fox Home Entertainment is streeting the first four episodes of “24’s” sixth season the day after they finished airing on the Fox network for about $11.

Also streeting today is Space Academy: The Complete Series, CBS’ well-budgeted (well-budgeted for Saturday-morning TV that is) 1977-79 scifi show. It was an “X-Men”-ish affair about a school for superpowered kids. Two of them sported telekinesis, another telepathy, another invisibility. Only the school was located on a 33rd century asteroid instead of Upstate New York. And one of the kids had super kung-fu powers. So now that I think of it, this was actually more like “Legion of the Super-Heroes” than “X-Men.” It starred Jonathan Harris (“Lost in Space”) as the academy’s 300-year-old commander (and spun off the perhaps better-remembered “Jason of Star Command” starring “Star Trek’s” James Doohan).

The DVD set boasts all 15 episodes from both seasons, a featurette, two audio commentaries, promos, stills, scripts and the series bible for $22.49.

“What’s brown and sounds like a bell?”

Monty Python: The Complete Series 16-Ton Megaset , more than $99 last week, is momentarily down to $64.99. Four seasons of the funniest British TV show ever forged. 45 BBC episodes, plus a couple of rare ones made especially for German television, plus sketches performed live at the Hollywood Bowl, and loads of other extras. Giant blancmanges from another galaxy turning people into Scotsmen are included, as are The Most Disgusting Family In Britain Winners, and the Lumberjack Song, The Funniest Joke In The World, Defending Yourself Against Fruit, The Spanish Inquisition, The Bishop, The Dirty Vicar, The Dirty Fork, The Spam Sketch, The Oscar Wilde Sketch, and of course The Original Dead Parrot Sketch. Worth every penny and quite a few more.

    by danielkurland

Really, you can't wait for the whole season to come out? I hate sets like that. It's like, for whatever reason, you can buy the first 6 episodes of season 1 of Frasier on DVD. It's just like they took the first DVD out of the season set, slap on some stock art, and call it, "The premiere episodes", and it's like they have a new product.

Seasons 1-5 are currently available at £17.99 each at Play.com .... also, I agree with DanielKurland - it's such a money grabbing scam. The same way I hate them releasing volume/parts 1, 2, etc. Does anyone actually buy these?? Wait for the complete boxset at a fraction of the price you impatient dicks. If there wasn't a market for these, they'd probably release the complete sets sooner.

I've have a bootleg set of all the episodes (thank God for the nerds) and boy does this show suck. It's full of dated, not funny humor (think Monkees) that probably wasn't funny to begin with (hence the single season). Skip it.

    My So-Called-Life explanation...

    by danielkurland

Every week someone is shocked at the huge price for a show with under 20 episodes. Let me clear this up. It's not as if this show is of an un-Godly quality, it has to do with music rights, and how the DVDs are out of print, and therefore more expensive. King of Queens sets would cost the same amount if the same situation applied.

    by snowpuff

    Actually, no.

My So-Called Life has been out on DVD for five years and the retail price is $89.99.

    http://snipurl.com/17mta

It does appear to be out of print, though.

I don't know where Herc got that info. Probably confused some Amazon seller's price with the retail price.

Supposedly they'll be substituting the music that was in the show when it was originally broadcast. If they put some lame gerenic crap in there, you will know something is off, and in the back of your mind, you won't enjoy it. What a shame. All because of some dumb ass musician's ego. And why the hell won't they put Sammo Humg's MARTIAL LAW series on DVD? Captain N? CAPTAIN N?

Some of us (myself included) don't buy into hype and will not be jumping on the HD bandwagon. For me it's the whole DRM issue among other things. There will always be another format, so what's the point of buying anything? But to play devil's advocate, perhaps not all the extras from DVD will carry over to HD/Blu-Ray. This happened to laser disc, the extras = commentaries, delete scenes, galleries and featurettes didn't always carry over to the eventual DVD release. Format too. Some LD titles were released in widescreen, but the DVD is in full screen only. So there you go.

    Vibro is right,
its hardly rip off i picked it up just 20 mins ago for 7.99 at Ameoba Records, and it comes with a 10.00 off coupon for any season one through six, that doesnt expire till 2008, so really its no different than when you put 10 down to preorder one of the big disney titles at bestbuy, except you get to own the first 4 episodes and first act of episode 5 now.
but i did have to search to find it Bestbuy, circuit city, wal mart and the virgin mega store right next to my work at the chinese theatre, didnt have it in stock they all said they sold it out this morning with prices rangeing from 8.00 to $10.00
