AICN Exclusive: MUTANT CHRONICLES teaser art!!

Published at:  Jan 15, 2007 5:53:59 PM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Way back in May of last year I visited the Shepperton Studios pre-production offices of THE MUTANT CHRONICLES, a sci-fi war flick starring Thomas Jane, Ron Perlman, John Malkovich and Devon Aoki (Miho herself). I liked what I saw then, but it's easy to like artists renderings of a brutal sci-fi war. A lot rests on director Simon Hunter's shoulders in bringing this film to life.

My understanding is photography has wrapped and this image below has been approved for the teaser poster. It's pretty striking and, as teaser images are supposed to do, has me more interested in the flick than I was before. Click on the art to get the super big version. What do you folks think?

    by masterkenobi

sounds cool, but not the "have faith" thing. Take it away and you´ll have a good poster. From the set report one gets the feeling it could be something special. There hasn´t been a good scifi film with dark and gritty atmosphere in ages. I like the casting, but can´t imagine Thomas Jane as the leader. Still have nightmares from the Punisher movie. Worst casting ever.

    by mista mann

I've avoided anything about this because of the name. I didn't realize it was something serious. "Mutant Chronicles" is bad even for a video game or children's cartoon. They couldn't think of anything more intriguing and thought-provoking?

    by ridge

Very nice. I've played the tabletop game before, it wasn't too bad. Always liked it more than Warhammer, then played the RPG which was able to go into some very dark places. The poster there, gives a great feeling and if they can deliver on the tone without changing too much, I think we're in for a treat.

    by ghostball

'Mutant' never looks good in a title, and 'Chronicles'is starting to look as hubristic as Vin Diesel. Like the first part of the quote though. The second half is ass, as pointed out by MasterKenobi. I'll still be seeing it, though - the concept and cast sound ok, and whole year for SFX. How bad can they fuck this one up?

No. When Ron said that, we were just wrapping CIGARETTE BURNS last year. We ran into him by coincidence at the hotel where we were all staying, and he joined us at our impromptu wrap party.

This year, when he left the set of PRO-LIFE, he was headed to the set of THE MUTANT CHRONICLES. The odd coincidence there is that John Carpenter was one of the original directors attached to this film several years ago when it almost happened. When I asked him about it, he seemed a little sad that this one got away. "It was going to be reeeeeeeally cool," he said. I hope it is. I kinda like the poster as an attempt to set a tone.

    by snikkar124

Looks like resident evil to me.Could be good ,but Ron Pearlman better have lot`s of make-up.He looks like feel on most sunday mornings. This film will most likely be dissapointing. They`ll give us the best scenes in the trailer, and the whole jist of who`s who, what will happen ,and the movie will suck in comparison to the trailer.Sequel due 2010.
