Do they think they're stretching this out 7 seasons? They hardly have enough material for 3 it seems. I mean 4 episodes in a row of Jack and Sawyer in a cage isn't exactly stimulating. Season 1 and 2 were fantastic... but come on.

    by roboteer

As popular culture, I follow a bit, but don't watch. When the writers admitted to making it up as they go, can TWIN PEAKS Disease be far away? One thing TP proved is the mistake of rubbing it in the rube's faces. Some might get upset. Like GALACTICA, this is getting to be dead show walking. Except this is closer to the bad stage where it becomes a parody of itself. Nice run, but no way this gets even a whiff of 7 seasons.

    All is Lost?

    by zardoz

The producers are in talks with ABC about the series finale, and exactly when it will come about. So it won't burn-out and over-stay its welcome, "like the X-Files". But of course, they want at least 100 eps, the magic number of shows for syndication. Here's hoping the ratings can last that long. (and the viewers, too!)

SEVENTH SEASON??? WTF??? I really like the show and all, but damn. Seven seasons, let alone anything past four is wishful thinking. They've got to change up the format at some point. Ditch the aggravating as all hell flashbacks and stick to character development on the island(s) itself. As long as they don't serve us anymore horseshit such as the ultra crappy "Locke builds a sweat lodge for no damn reason" episode, I'll stick with it, and won't bounce when Holloway eventually pulls a Clooney. I don't care what they say he's locked in for, his day are numbered.

Another bullshit schedule. Just show it ON TIME!

    by triumph poops!

Why does it have to be 22 episodes in a row starting in January? What, some retarded and overpaid ABC exec looked out his office window at the Fox building and decided ABC's solution was to copy the 24 model? Riiiight. Like THAT'S going to make the difference in salvaging LOST. Hey, I like the show...I really do, right down to buying the DVDs...but unless they have a strong finish for this year and stop it from meandering all over the place it's clear that they really have lost their momentum and really ARE just winging it show to show behind the scenes...which would be a sure sign for continued quality drops, falling ratings, and an inevitable cancellation. Here's a tip for that same braindead ABC guru in programming: I'm sure the viewing public would be perfectly happy with 11 weeks straight starting end of Sept or early October...followed by a month off for Christmas and New Years Eve, since no one watches TV then anyway...followed by 11 more weeks uninterrupted. What kills a show -- and ABC should know this better than anyone given what happened to them with critical and fan fave MOONLIGHTING during it's height -- is when one week it's new...then 2 weeks a repeat...then new...then 3 more repeats...then MAYBE a new episode...well, you get the picture. For crying out loud, remember the good ol' days of television when the creative talent actually had their shit together behind the scenes and shows actually debuted on schedule and ran just fine? Oh, that's right -- that was before shows like LOST came along where creators and actors started dragging things out by getting all wishy washy and tempermental and too artsy fartsy saying "You know, I'm just not feeling it today. So let's stop shooting. I need more time to think what comes next. Tell you what, audiece, we'll get back to you in a few weeks. Maybe." Sheesh, and Hollywood wonders why marketing studies stunningly show that 6 out of 10 people now would rather come home and go online and use the web to relax for the evening instead of watching TV anymore...

Last time I heard, I was five

    by rodimus ben

I am a huge Lostie, and in our fan community the biggest fear is that the show will be ruined by execs wanting it dragged out longer than it should be. It already felt like that a little with the mini-season this past fall. Could have told the same story in two hours, not six. I agree the flashbacks are starting to feel very forced and by-the-numbers. The producers said they have a solid story arc of five seasons, so if they get pressure to extend it beyond that, it's going to hurt the quality of the show severely.

I like this January idea if it means we get to run straight through with no extended breaks. This kind of episodic, cliffhanger melarkey doesn't work too well when you forgotten what happened by the time the next episode rolls around. Also, I'll echo the sentiment that seven seasons will spread this premise way too thin. I would think five is the most they could get away with. That is, unless they hit us with some big surprises in the next couple of years.

    by supertoyslast

The article indicates that the producers want to wrap it up in five and ABC want at least seven. I was unaware that some of the cast's contracts take them to season seven - I thought six-year contracts were the norm. Of course, these could be extensions of previous contracts.

    by flim_

They're not taking any big risks, like in the first season, because they've got a bona-fide, genuine hit on their hands. What they need to do is take a page from PRISON BREAK and just GO FOR IT. If it seems like a good angle, do it. Kill someone off, bring someone back, get them off the island, blow up a duck, insert a mad scientist, have it rain blood, make a satellite phone wash up on the beach, etc.. etc.. For fuck's sake, DO SOMETHING!!! This season has been GOD AWFUL, and what's worse... Stagnant.

    by padewanklaatu

and hasn't it been eating it for the last season and a half?? kill it, kill it now, and kill it fast. Or the season finale is going to play out a little something like this: Jack, Sawyer and Kate are rescued from the Others by Locke, Jin, Sun, and Sayid; meanwhile, Hurley and Charlie are stumbling through the jungle, bitching about whatever in holy fuck it is they bitch about all day, when they spot someone who no-one's ever seen before who turns out to have been on the plane all along. As they're all sitting around talking, the non-character hears a roar in the jungle and goes off to investigate. A few hours later, Hurley says "Dude, we better go look for Mr Mystery, he's been gone for a while"; they do, and then they find a big stinking, stagnant swamp. Charlie says "So, THAT's what happened to this show's originality" and the screen goes to black. I tell the truth, my friends. It's what will happen.

Lost Shocker: The End is Near!

"The time-tripping serial's producers announced at press tour today that they are in talks with ABC about establishing not a season but a series finale date — as they describe it, an "end game" — to ensure that their baby goes out on top."

"If he and his colleagues hadn't taken action, Lindelof can well imagine what the long-long-term future of Lost would have resembled. "They could produce a sixth or seventh or eighth season, but would anybody be watching?" he asks, though he clearly has an answer in mind. "The show would be so miserable by that time.""

You know, you CAN change the channel. LOST is one of the best shows on television, still, it's just a rare "slow burn" show. You don't get a pay off per week; it's about a slow paced, gradual set up and just a few knock 'em down revelations per season. More and more, it's tying together. As for "admitted to making it up as they go along", they NEVER did that. Please show me a source; I think you have them confused with 24, who have admitted that.

Lost and 24 are my 2 favorite network dramas (Shield rules all), so I'd love nothing more than to see Lost adopt the uninterrupted season ala 24. The serial nature of each show makes it the perfect way to present the story to the audience. I love House, but I don't think it would make a difference if it aired a season without interruption. The moment Lost adopted the long break this season I had a pretty good feeling that they might fall in line with 24. Hopefully they go through with it.

    by spyguy

If they're already padding the overall storyline at Seasons 2 and 3, no WAY should they take this series to 7. 5 will get you syndication money after 100 episodes, and genre shows usually start sucking with their sixth season (I'm looking at you BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and THE X-FILES!) The only exception to this rule seems to be SMALLVILLE, which is at Season 6 and hasn't been this good since Season 2.

The reason Herc is saying seven seasons is because the creators said that they don't want to overstay their welcome like x-files did. The continued to say that X-files was a great show that lasted 2 seasons too long. Without those two seasons the total number of season would have been...7! That where he got that number. The creators already said that 5 is prime and 6 is really pushing it.

Cuse and Lindelof have stated many times they have an exact plan for this show which translates to 5 seasons and a movie. And that they don't want to X-Files this show up. If they do 7 seasons, clearly stuff has been fucked around with and altered, and I hope that isn't happening. 5 years is fine for a show, and yes, it would still give the menough episodes to syndicate.

It's arrogant of them to wait until February to air the rest of the season uninterrupted? Is it arrogant because it was a bad idea, or is it arrogant because you hate the show? I'd fully agree that it was a bad idea, but arrogant? They should have done this season on a 24-type schedule from the beginning, but either way arrogance has nothing to do with it. I've been fully on board since episode 1, and my faith in the show hasn't wavered yet. I seem to be one of the few who has really enjoyed season 3 so far. I'll reserve judgment on a season 5 (or 7) until it actually shows up. People are really quick to judge around here, though I guess if you already don't like how the show is going I can understand how a 7 season plan might frustrate you.

    by mraig

Doesn't anyone else just like Lost and want to give it the benefit of the doubt? Yeah, the 6-episode mini-arc wasn't the most perfect run in the history of the series, but that doesn't mean the whole show has "jumped the shark" and there's no going back. In fact, in the 6-episode arc, wasn't the first episode actually pretty amazing? And wasn't the last one really good too? Actually, it's really a testament to Lost's ability to inspire passion that an article stating nothing more than "we're thinking about how long the series will go on; there's no answer yet" can get everybody all riled up. I mean, if you want to get riled up about something, how about that great Variety prose style. "its seventh season, when the show's thesps' current contracts expire." Thesps?

"7 seasons" is bullshit from Variety

    by minderbinder

Did anyone even read the article? The writers said they want about 5 seasons (with the fifth potentially even being a shorter season). They have been saying 4-5 seasons for a couple years now, that's old news. Variety just pulled the "7 season" thing out of their ass, total speculation and not based on the writers comments at all. Now, it's possible that ABC could insist on more seasons and just hire new writers after the current ones walk. But I'm sure they realize the potential for pissing the fans off if they did that. Let's hope they go for quality over quantity and decide on 100 or so episodes that can go down in TV history. I'd also like to point out that Lost has a history of ending seasons strong - people were bitching at about this point last year, but by the end of the season, people were once again on the edge of their seats. I'm guessing that week by week, the "who cares" will be increasingly drounded out by the "holy shit"! comments.

Dragging old shit out is a bad idea, ABC. Lost is a great show but even the fans notice how dull it's slowly becoming. They need to do something, like, answering some questions without creating countless more with it. The episodes are all blending into one bore-fest, nothing happens, I mean, does anyone really give a fuck about whos dick Kate sucks? It's not mine so I sure as hell dont. by lionbiu

....and I'll say it again, Lost has jumped the shark. After that crap with the smoke monster I lost all interest in the show. They have written themselves into a corner they can't get out of and there is no intrigue or mystery left. If there is a fucking smoke monster than we can sum this island up as a supernatural fantasy island, which is good....if this is how it started. The great thing about 'lost' season 1 (and 2 a lesser extent 2) was that it was grounded in reality and everything had a logical reason, but with smoke monsters, giant dissapearing birds, skies whihc turn pink etc....it has just become a joke. The 6 season arc was some of the worst episodes ever...nothing happened and the characters were not developed; the flashbacks have become annoying and pointless. How the hell can it survive 7 seasons when it has already lost it's way at 2 seasons and 6 episodes?

    by ribbons

They've got "Desperate Housewives" and "Grey's Anatomy;" "Dancing With the Stars" and "The Bachelor" do alright on the reality tip; "Ugly Betty" and "The Knights of Prosperity" are pretty funny and should do well if they're given the time. So it's not like they're wholly dependent on "Lost" for their financial success. Plus Damon Lindelof makes a good point, when he says "how much longer do you think people are going to watch the show anyway?" After "Twin Peaks" and "The X-Files" started spinning their wheels, people lost interest completely. I can't imagine the shelf life for this show lasting much longer than five or six seasons anyway. It'd really be best if the writers were allowed to plot out the rest of the show instead of stalling until cancellation; it might even garner stronger ratings that way.

You must not have been around for the TalkBack discussions during Season 1. Nobody, myself included, thought "Lost" was "grounded in reality." Do the "Savage Land" and Purgatory theories ring any bells? Also, wasn't there an invisible, carnivorous monster in the pilot, and wasn't Locke revealed to have been paralyzed from the waist down in the third episode? What about when Jack's dad was walking around the island in the episode after that? I don't want to get all fiercely defensive; it makes me feel weird. But when I read these "Lost" TalkBacks, I just get pissed off, because a lot of the people who criticize the show don't even know what they're talking about.

like I said it was grounded in reality (for the most part), but there was always small indications to something more. We never saw what the monster was, but it could have been assumed to be anything and Locke's miraculous injury could have been due to anything. There was a spirtual and religious tone to Lost which was very interesting....but it has gone of the fucking deep end now and everything is becoming a muddled mess. Too many characters with little to know screen time because of mind-numbingly boring flashbacks, the stroy takes almost 5 episodes to advance at any given time, tacky and pointless romance plot which has not been developed since season 1 etc...
So many things have gone wrong with the show, it's not that I am impatient (I loved Carnivale which was a real slow-burner but unlike Lost actually had a great story each week), it's that the show has nowhere else to go (unless they want to crash another plane) and the explanations are becoming stupid and opening more questions which porbably won't get answered. The people who defend lost just don't seem to understand that the show has become frustratingly difficult to watch after such a promosing beginning and we all still watch just to see if it gets any better.

X-Files and Buffy aren't good comparisons

    by oisin5199

Though I definitely agree that X-Files went on 2 seasons too long. The stuff with Robert Patrick should have been a spinoff. First, X-Files had a different formula with great standalone episodes and a mythology that eventually didn't amount to much. They definitely jumped the shark when they had to completely redefine the conspiracy in a lame way in order to extend the show (and explain Mulder's absence - and I also think they should have waited until after the show was over to do the movie). Buffy also had great standalone episodes and I totally disagree that it should have ended with 5 seasons. There were some missteps in seasons 6 and 7, but there were some in earlier seasons as well. In the context of the entire series, 6 had some great stuff and 7 was a perfect ending (thematically, at least) that gave us a great wrap up to the entire series. And Angel should have gone on two more seasons. 5 was definitely not enough as they rushed the end of the show and never really completed the story. Lost is different from all those in that they can't have standalone episodes. It's all one big miniseries (which is why running the full season with no interruptions is a good idea). Even in shows like BSG, when they try to have standalone eps, everyone here bitches about them being 'filler.' Anyway, I think it could go seven if the show totally changes - I certainly think there's enough mythology already to do a totally different show - but it can't focus on the island itself so much anymore or the original Losties - at least not all of them.

Just because some of you don't like the show and where it's gone since Season 1 doesn't mean it's 'jumped the shark'. That could bring me back to my original statement of 'Why the hell are you still watching if you hate it?', but because it's become obvious to me that no one is able to answer that without simply reiterating the reasons that you don't like it, I won't even bother. Personally, I think people become disinterested for various reasons, (subject matter, story arcs too long, etc) but mainly because they have an attention span that can barely last until the next Pringles commercial. Lost is an extremely slow-burning show, and just because you yourself aren't interested in it anymore doesn't mean that anyone's "lost their way" or are only continuing to write/participate in it solely for syndication money. That sort of thinking is self-righteous, arrogant, and let's face it - expected. The only thing the writers are doing here is doing their best to protect their intellectual property - they started it their way, and they can hardly be blamed for wanting to end it their way, too.

I understand that most of you are, to put it mildly, of lesser intelligence than the average bear, so I'll try to state this in as many one syllable words as possible. You simpletons ready?

JUMPING THE SHARK: Jumping the shark is a metaphor that is used to denote the specific tipping point at which a TV series is deemed to have passed its peak.

Do you get it now? It makes absolutely no sense to simply state that a show has "jumped the shark" without noting the specific episode/moment/situation that caused this.

Like Fonzie "jumping the shark" on Happy Days. So I ask all you "shark jumpers", what is the specific moment or situation when LOST jumped the shark?

    re: grounded in reality

    by ribbons

But assuming that there were scientific explanations for why Locke could suddenly walk again, or what the monster was, or why Jack's dead dad was up and ambulatory, they would've had to have been so preposterous that the sci-fi might as well have been fantasy anyway. Do you see what I'm saying? There's no "logical" explanation for any of those things, so I don't see how a little bit of the supernatural makes the show "worse" in some way. I disagree with you about the lack of characterization in general, although I also agree that some episodes are stupider than others, and some flashbacks more repetitive. And you're right, I don't understand that the show has become frustratingly difficult to watch, because I've watched it since the beginning as well and I don't feel the same way. Not because I think it can do no wrong; even though I have for all intents and purposes acted as a Lost "apologist" for the past several months, I too have a lot of problems with the show that stick in my craw, and have in fact been yelled at by people even more devotional to the series than me because of them. So it's not like I can't stand to hear criticism about a show I watch. It's just that I think "Lost" has maintained a fairly consistent level of quality since about the middle of the first season. Some episodes are disappointing ("The Glass Ballerina," for example), some flat-out suck (any episode with a Charlie flashback, for example), but I don't think that's anything new and so I don't see where all the enmity is coming from all of a sudden. I *suspect* that people are just getting frustrated after having invested over 2 years in this show, hoping for some sort of payoff, but since I obviously don't feel the same way about what the show is as you it's really hard to say what you're thinking.

    Lost jumped the shark when...

    by rosasaks

Saint Jack resuscitated Charlie in the episode entitled "All the Best Cowboys have Daddy Issues", broadcast on December 8th 2004, the last of the year. The scene was hideously overwrought and though no-one knew it at the time it represented the death of the show's early eerie atmosphere. This was the same episode in which John Locke discovered an overgrown manhole cover on the floor of the jungle, after which all story lines inexplicably ground to a halt until the season finale. After that we were treated to Kate's Toy Plane, Monster Ate My Sister, Is Walt Special, Dingo Ate My Baby, Sawyer vs The Bore, Who Burnt the Raft, Numbers, Daddy Stole My Kidney, Don't Chop My Leg Off, Sayid Loves Shannon, and finally Born to Run, a mystifying episode in which the characters contrive at extraordinary length the most byzantine method of delaying the season finale for one more week imaginable, and succeed.

Like I have already stated, Lost was grounded in reality ala Jurassick Park or Pan's Labyrinth or Batman Begins, not to say everything has a scietific explanation but the story and characters were so well rounded that the implausibilty of the story was ignored and the story engaged you. The flashbacks in season 1 added so much to the story and characters and ended so perfectly well when all our castaways got onto the doomed plane. Now flashbacks are used to explain stupid little things ie. Jack gets angry; flashback shows jack getting angry at someone, Jack gets jealous; flashback shows jack getting jealous of someone' jack takes a shit; flashback shows jack taking a shit on someone.

LOST... trying to find its best footing

    by thebigchill

Alright, thing about LOST is that before it started airing, none of the producers or the network executives knew what they had on their hands. Hell, one of ABC's top guys was fired just for having given the green light for the pilot to be made. So that explains the fucked up airing of Season 1. The first season was great because it was new and all we were getting were these surprises, mystery. Everything was new. But hell, how many people realized that they never explored the island except to go visit the Black Rock? That was the only thing we saw other than the beach, the caves and the hatch. Otherwise there was nothing else. Shit, most of the island had yet to be seen.

Season 2 got fucked up because they knew they had a hit, wanted to get it out there as soon as possible for the fans, but still wanted to take time to develop the story. In doing that, it created the so-frustrating-that-I-found-myself-at-a-loss-for-words
scheduling of the show. It was nice of them to think of their fans, but it hurt them in the end because it felt as though once they got going, built up momentum, the show stopped for two weeks. That blew. But regardless of what anyone else says, I think the show definitely was better in Season 2 than in Season 1. Outside of the first four episodes of Season 2, the show really did move forward. I think Season 1 had better individual episodes, but Season 2 as a whole was so much better. I liked a few of the Tailies, in fact Mr. Eko was my favorite character on the show. Ana Lucia was a bitch, and I wanted her dead from the start, but she was effective in really making the Jack, Sawyer, Kate threesome even more awkward. And from what I understand, Libby is going to play a bigger role in most of the people's lives. Most people complain about how Season 2 didn't answer anything than what was in the hatch, what the computer did, and some stuff about the Others, while giving us about a dozen other mysteries. I loved that. My favorite part about the show is trying to guess what is going to happen in the future due to all the crazy events that get thrown at us.

And the mini-series that ran as the first part of Season 3 was to give us something to help get back to what happened last year, but still allow themselves time to get everything together for the rest of the season. Sure, I understand why people didn't like the cage stuff, but hell, the first six episodes of Season 3 aren't Season 1, but they sure as hell aren't Season 2. At least we have gotten somewhere by this point. They've taken a big chance in killing Eko. Kate's made her choice. Jack is playing God. Locke has returned to form. The one thing I will agree with everyone on is that they need to forget these new always been there characters. Sorry, dude that took a shit doesn't do anything for me, maybe his wife can turn into something, but seriously, the poop guy is like the teacher they took to the Black Rock. I hope he gets eaten by the polar bear. But by breaking it up how they did, they set us up for non-stop episodes from here on out. They can develop momentum and we will see it carry out rather than be stopped.

But I'm even more excited, and slightly disappointed, by the 24 style running next season. Excited because we are going to get non-stop LOST for 22 weeks, disappointed that I will have to wait until January to see it. I think that ABC finally, finally knows what it needs to do with the show to keep its audience.

As for 5 vs. 7 seasons, I say five just to insure that the events on the island don't become a joke like some of the flashbacks have been.

Now there's a story in yahoo news that says the prodeucers are talking to ABC on how to end the show. I thought each season was a month on the island. Looks like we'll never see Sun's baby ever be born. Why in hell did they ever put that angle on the show? Pointless!

The Tragedy and Hope of Lost

    by _maltheus_

I thought I once heard that these first six episodes were treated as a mini-season. There was a lot of great set up in the season 2 finale that was squandered in this crap fest. I'm clinging to hope that the show will be back in form when it returns. Perhaps this news of an uninterrupted season was in response to how everyone turned so sour on the show and have had months to talk about how much we hate it now. If it were uninterrupted, then it's possible that we'd be past the bad and into the good by now. I think that rather than mucking with the scheduling, they need to get on board with most shows and recognize that season premieres and finales BOTH need to be good, and an ole fashion, knock-my-socks-off, sweeps episode wouldn't hurt either.
And if they are going to go seven seasons, then they definitely need to resolve the current mysteries and move on with new ones. Carnivale was a great example of a slow-burn show it's first season, but by the end of the second, most of the questions had been answered and it was ready to take off in a new direction. The thing is, you can go from slow to fast, but not from fast to slow, as Lost has done. They need to do more than throw us a bone once in a while. After three seasons, I'm ready for some steak.

    by mistere

The best way to get rid of take-a-shit guy would be to have him find the satchel of leftover dynamite and come out of the woods saying something like "Hey, guys, look what I found! Dynamite! Gotta be careful with this stuff, it's very volatile when it gets old..." BOOM!

Lindelof said he wants to do 4-5, not seven

    by freakemovie

I think EW.com has a better story about this. Lindelof said basically that he envisions the show to make sure it doesn't wear out its welcome, and said something like: "the first season was the beginning, the second season was the hatch, the third season is the Others, I don't want to tell you what the fourth season is yet, and the fifth season would be the wrap up/climax". That mentality sounds pretty cool to me.

They need to do a Galactica!

    by performingmonkey

What this show needs at the end of season 3 is a '2 years later'. If they don't do this we will be in season 5 and it'll still be like only a few months since the original Flight 815 crash. I don't think it's even three months since the crash so far! The characters already look so different. Imagine what they'll be like when Matthew Fox suddenly grows a shark-jumping beer gut (for REAL, not like Apollo's *fat suit alert* weight gain) Dominic Monaghan loses his hair, Terry O' Quinn dies for real from old age, Naveen Andrews is arrested for being Asian (by the time of season 7 they'll just be arresting all Asian or Asian-looking people and trying them for crimes against America- sorry -humanity), Evangeline Lily has gone all Keira Knightley (yes, she's in Pirates of the Caribbean 5 - George Lucas Gotta Eat After Raping My Mother's Cooked Books Too Soon!) MWAHAHAHAHA

    x-files never jumped

    by werideatdusk

Season 7 had some terrific episodes, and 8 and 9 were strong and dramatic. True, Doggett and Reyes didn't have the same appeal as Mulder and Scully, but they were great characters, and Robert Patrick in particular did a great performance. The show evolved over time, but was never dull or poorly made.

I think Lost is the same so far. I've been a big fan of the Others storyline, and season 2 was much better than season 1 for me, because finally the show was really about something. Season 3 has been pretty good so far. I think Benry is a great villain. Eko shouldn't have died, but I'm still quite excited for the rest of season 3. I do agree that 5 seasons would be more reasonable than 7 or more, because its such a singular storyline, but neither X-Files nor Lost jumped or have jumped the shark.

Also, enough with the "gotta eat" and "cooking the books" things. I don't really understand how they could ever be funny; repeating them in every damn talkback doesn't help.

    by brolly

I'm in agony over Lost. AGONY!!! I feel my heart has been torn in two by inconsistent writing and false promises. This is worse than when my girlfriend walked out and my chubby fingers broke the exclamation point key on my Keyboard. Fuck Lost ...
I want to pour burning petrol over the writers and then piss over their charred corpses. They failed me. THIS IS A TRAGEDY. A FUCKING TRAGEDY. I'm going to hang myself if they don't answer the mysteries. If they keep stringing us along with the plot any longer then I'm going to string myself up like that Saddam guy off the TV. Fucking hell why did it have to end like this? Season 1 was mostly shit and so was season 2. Season 3 has been crap so far and it's getting crapper. I watched Lost every week it was on so I could come here and whine like a bitch, but I can't DO this anymore. I can't sit through another episode, I just don't have what it takes now. I'm canning this show. I'm jumping ship and bailing out. I'm changing channel and turning off Tivo. I'm pulling the plug and and throwing in the towel. This is the end for Lost and me, the show has 'Lost' me. Get it? .. "Lost". I used a pun there.. I hope you saw it and got a kick out of that. We part roads at the next junction. Goodbye and Namasté.

    SEVEN is the magic number

    by tocksick

When thinking about how long Lost would go on I always expected the lucky number Seven. It just feels right from a structural point of view: Three acts for simple plays and movies, five acts for multi-layered stories and SEVEN acts/volumes/seasons for complex, year-long mythologies that rely on dozens of multi-faceted characters and a myraid of interweaving subplots.

    by tocksick

As is evident in this thread, we have some concerns about the future of Lost. So far, season 3 has been good but has not matched the greatness of the previous two seasons. I mean, you build characters, you show things that may have a bearing on furture episodes (like Libby in Hurleys asylum), you get the audience to invest time in the characters, and then...you kill them. Just like that. And why? Cos of what they did out of work. Fuck, 50 cents is a drug dealer!! And he gets movie roles. R Kelly is a paedophile! He's still making music! Who gives a crap! Why worry about syndication when....

    by mr. profit

The reruns to this show get bad ratings. Lost works if you show the eps back to back. Do you think that a network that will potentially pick up syndication rights to this show is going to committ to airing it in order? Please. For Lost tolast 7 seasons it should have been an HBO show that aired 13 episode back to back seasons each year.

    Still enjoying it

    by inwosuxred

If they wanted to explain everything right now, I don't think they could wrap it up cleanly by the end of next season. I'm excited to go meet the one eyed man, and I want to see who the crazy people that don't wear shoes are. I still like the original main characters, and I don't care about "takes a shit guy". Nobody is forcing anyone to watch anything. If you hate it that much, stop watching...oh yeah, you can't because you don't hate it, you just have no patience and need everything explained to you imediately. This show makes so much money, and it will be syndicated eventually, but it will have to air consecutively and then disapear. It will make money on downloads, it will make more money on DVD seasons, and then it will make even more money when they release the entire series on HDDVD or whatever in a giant box. This will just keep making money long after you watch the series finale and every episode in between.

    Grumpy Fans

    by tocksick

I remember from previous years that whenever there was a long hiatus between episodes the fans got a lot grumpier than usual. Now that we're near the end of the LONGEST inter-season hiatus in the history of Lost, it is natural for the grumpiness to be at record highs. The Lost writers are planning a big comeback, that new blonde chick (I forget her name, is that a bad sign?) is getting a flashback which is sure to reveal a lot. I am still optimistic...
