THE SOPRANOS AND ENTOURAGE RETURN
WITH NEW EPISODES APRIL 8, EXCLUSIVELY ON HBO
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12, 2007 - HBO has confirmed the debut date for new episodes of the hit series THE SOPRANOS and ENTOURAGE.
The Emmy(r)- and Peabody-winning series THE SOPRANOS returns for the second part of its sixth and final season with nine new episodes, starting SUNDAY, APRIL 8 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT), followed by other episodes on subsequent Sundays at the same time. Series creator David Chase will write and direct the final episode of the show.
The drama series stars three-time Emmy(r) winners James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano and Edie Falco as Tony's wife Carmela, plus Lorraine Bracco as therapist Dr. Jennifer Melfi, Emmy(r) winner Michael Imperioli as Tony's nephew Christopher Moltisanti, and Dominic Chianese as Uncle Junior. Also returning to the series are regulars Robert Iler as Anthony Soprano, Jr., Jamie-Lynn Sigler as Meadow Soprano, Tony Sirico as Paulie Walnuts, and Steven Van Zandt as Silvio Dante.
THE SOPRANOS recently received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama (Edie Falco).
The Emmy(r)-winning series ENTOURAGE returns for the second part of its third season, comprising eight episodes, on the same date - SUNDAY, APRIL 8 (10:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT) - with the new episodes to debut immediately following THE SOPRANOS.
The comedy series stars Adrian Grenier as Vince, who is enjoying life in the limelight as a hot young actor; Kevin Connolly as Eric, Vince's manager, who tries to help him make the right choices; Kevin Dillon as Vince's half-brother Drama, whose own career has been eclipsed by Vince's success; Jerry Ferrara as Turtle, the least savvy of the group; and Emmy(r) winner Jeremy Piven as Ari, Vince's aggressive, high-powered agent.
ENTOURAGE recently received two Golden Globe nominations, for Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Jeremy Piven).

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12, 2007 - The new HBO drama series JOHN FROM CINCINNATI will kick off its 11-episode first season this summer, it was announced today by Carolyn Strauss, president, HBO Entertainment. The series is created by David Milch (creator of the acclaimed HBO series "Deadwood") & Kem Nunn.
"David Milch is one of the most original storytellers working in any format today," said Strauss. "We are honored to have him as part of the HBO family. The sky is the limit for his new series."

Set in Imperial Beach, California, the last great surf-break before Tijuana, where the U.S. meets Mexico, and water meets land, JOHN FROM CINCINNATI tells the story of the Yosts, a family of surfers whose awesome athletic talents have for generations seemed to come with a curse attached. The gifts of 13-year-old Shaun rival those of Butchie, his addict derelict father, and his now-ascetically-withdrawn grandfather Mitch, both of whom defined the sport in their heydays. In shaping Shaun's career, his grandmother Cissy strives to achieve a commercial and athletic success that will compensate for the frustrations and failures of her life with her husband and son.
Into this world, where even simple joy has been turned into a commodity, steps a mysterious stranger named John. Soon after, things begin to happen to the Yosts, and those whose lives they touch, that test the boundaries of past and present, the mundane and the miraculous, the natural world and what lies beyond it.

From stories of wounded soldiers in James Gandolfini's ALIVE DAY MEMORIES: HOME FROM IRAQ, and GHOSTS OF ABU GHRAIB, an inside account of the atrocities at the notorious Iraqi prison, to FRIENDS OF GOD: A ROAD TRIP WITH ALEXANDRA PELOSI, and an unprecedented multi-media project on the myths, causes and treatments of ADDICTION, featuring the work of leading documentary filmmakers, HBO documentaries take subscribers to worlds others never get to see.

FRIENDS OF GOD: A ROAD TRIP WITH ALEXANDRA PELOSI (debuting Jan. 25) looks at America's estimated 50 to 80 million evangelical Christians, who have become a formidable cultural and political force. Intrepid filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi (HBO's Emmy(r)-winning "Journeys with George") travels the country to meet a cross-section of Evangelical America, including pastor Ted Haggard and Rev. Jerry Falwell.
BASTARDS OF THE PARTY (Feb. 6) explores the world of contemporary black gangs in Los Angeles, detailing the complex history of gangs' origins, their eventual political affiliations, and the lives they destroyed. Director Cle "Bone" Sloan, an inactive member of the infamous Los Angeles gang the Bloods, uses interviews with past and current Bloods and Crips gang members, as well as historians, former FBI agents, and members of the Black Panther community, to present a comprehensive history of the evolution and healing of Los Angeles gang culture. Produced by Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day").
GHOSTS OF ABU GHRAIB (Feb. 22), directed by Rory Kennedy (HBO's "Indian Point"), looks at the abuses that occurred in the notorious Iraqi prison in fall 2003. Through narratives of perpetrators, witnesses and victims of the abuse, it probes the psychology of how seemingly ordinary men and women came to commit these atrocious acts. The film also explores the history of policy decisions, including the disregard for the Geneva Conventions, that helped make the abuse a reality. A selection of the 2007 Sundance Film Festival documentary competition.
ADDICTION (March). One in four Americans has a primary family member who is struggling with addiction. Partnering with the National Institute on Drug Addiction, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, HBO launches an unprecedented multi-media project devoted to dispelling the myths about addiction and its causes, while showing that it is a serious but treatable brain disease. For the first time ever, HBO will use all of its digital platforms, including the main HBO service, multiplex channels, HBO On Demand, podcasts, web streams and DVD sales to support a campaign that includes a 14-part documentary series, a robust web site, and a national community grass roots outreach campaign funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. All films will initially be offered during the free HBO preview the weekend of March 15 in participating cable systems.
The centerpiece is the 90-minute documentary ADDICTION, debuting March 15, comprising nine segments directed by many of today's leading documentary filmmakers, including: Jon Alpert; Joe Berlinger; Kate Davis and David Heilbroner; Susan Froemke; Liz Garbus and Rory Kennedy; Eugene Jarecki; Barbara Kopple; Albert Maysles, D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus; and Alan Raymond.
THE TRIALS OF DARRYL HUNT (April 26) documents the 20-year aftermath of a harrowing rape-murder and wrongful conviction in the modern American south. Told from the point of view of the principal subjects - Mark Rabil, an unyielding defense attorney, and Darryl Hunt, the wrongfully convicted man - the film offers an eye-opening, provocative and haunting examination of a community and criminal justice system subject to racial bias and tainted by fear. An official selection of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and recent Independent Spirit Award nominee.
WIDE AWAKE (May 22). Alan Berliner puts his struggle with insomnia under the microscope in this groundbreaking, critically-acclaimed personal documentary, which was a hit at Sundance last year. The innovative, visually provocative film probes a debilitating affliction that affects many individuals at some point in their lives.
SHOT IN THE DARK (June 3). Before his success on HBO's "Entourage," Adrian Grenier began making a personal documentary. Raised in New York City by his mother, the actor grew up without really knowing his biological father, but resolved to reconnect with him just before his 23rd birthday. Grenier's film explores the meaning of being fatherless and the necessity of the father-son relationship.
ALIVE DAY MEMORIES: HOME FROM IRAQ (working title) (July 4). This moving documentary surveys the physical and emotional cost of war through soldiers' memories of the day in Iraq when they survived near-fatal wounds. In a war that has left 22,000 wounded, with more than half the injuries too severe to permit a return to active military service, the documentary looks at the advances in military medicine that allow soldiers to return home and celebrate what they call their "alive day." James Gandolfini executive produces and conducts interviews in which the soldiers share their feelings on their future, their severe disabilities and their devotion to the country.

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12, 2007 - Academy Award(r) nominees Paul Giamatti ("Cinderella Man") and Laura Linney ("Kinsey," "You Can Count on Me") will portray John and Abigail Adams in the HBO Films miniseries JOHN ADAMS, with production beginning in February. Stephen Dillane ("The Hours") will co-star as Thomas Jefferson. Based on David McCullough's Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of the American founding father, the seven-hour miniseries will be directed by Emmy(r) Award-winner Tom Hooper (HBO's "Elizabeth I") and produced by Playtone. Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman (HBO's Emmy(r)-winning miniseries "Band of Brothers") will executive produce. Kirk Ellis (Emmy(r)-nominated for "Anne Frank: The Whole Story") writes and serves as co-executive producer. Frank Doelger (HBO's "The Gathering Storm") and David Coatsworth ("Man of the Year") will produce.
JOHN ADAMS will shoot through July 2007 and will air on HBO in 2008, with much of the production to film in Colonial Williamsburg. The producers have received unprecedented cooperation from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, which for the first time will allow a film production to shoot on its 301-acre historic area of restored, reconstructed and historically furnished buildings.
Filming will also take place in other locations, including Richmond, Va. and various sites in Europe. Kary Antholis, senior vice president, miniseries, HBO Films, is the executive in charge of the production.
As told through the eyes of Adams and his wife Abigail, JOHN ADAMS is the story of the birth of the American republic and its first 50 years. Adams was the leader of the American independence movement, the nation's first ambassador to Holland and England, the first American Vice President, and the second American President.
"JOHN ADAMS chronicles the stirring life journey of one of the most important Americans ever to grace the pages of history," notes Callender. "Set against the backdrop of a nation's stormy birth, this sweeping miniseries is a moving love story, a gripping narrative and a fascinating study of human nature. Set in Imperial Beach, California, the last great surf-break before Tijuana, where the U.S. meets Mexico, and water meets land, JOHN FROM CINCINNATI tells the story of the Yosts, a family of surfers whose awesome athletic talents have for generations seemed to come with a curse attached. The gifts of 13-year-old Shaun rival those of Butchie, his addict derelict father, and his now-ascetically-withdrawn grandfather Mitch, both of whom defined the sport in their heydays. In shaping Shaun's career, his grandmother Cissy strives to achieve a commercial and athletic success that will compensate for the frustrations and failures of her life with her husband and son.
Into this world, where even simple joy has been turned into a commodity, steps a mysterious stranger named John. Soon after, things begin to happen to the Yosts, and those whose lives they touch, that test the boundaries of past and present, the mundane and the miraculous, the natural world and what lies beyond it.

BASTARDS OF THE PARTY (Feb. 6) explores the world of contemporary black gangs in Los Angeles, detailing the complex history of gangs' origins, their eventual political affiliations, and the lives they destroyed. Director Cle "Bone" Sloan, an inactive member of the infamous Los Angeles gang the Bloods, uses interviews with past and current Bloods and Crips gang members, as well as historians, former FBI agents, and members of the Black Panther community, to present a comprehensive history of the evolution and healing of Los Angeles gang culture. Produced by Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day").
GHOSTS OF ABU GHRAIB (Feb. 22), directed by Rory Kennedy (HBO's "Indian Point"), looks at the abuses that occurred in the notorious Iraqi prison in fall 2003. Through narratives of perpetrators, witnesses and victims of the abuse, it probes the psychology of how seemingly ordinary men and women came to commit these atrocious acts. The film also explores the history of policy decisions, including the disregard for the Geneva Conventions, that helped make the abuse a reality. A selection of the 2007 Sundance Film Festival documentary competition.
ADDICTION (March). One in four Americans has a primary family member who is struggling with addiction. Partnering with the National Institute on Drug Addiction, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, HBO launches an unprecedented multi-media project devoted to dispelling the myths about addiction and its causes, while showing that it is a serious but treatable brain disease. For the first time ever, HBO will use all of its digital platforms, including the main HBO service, multiplex channels, HBO On Demand, podcasts, web streams and DVD sales to support a campaign that includes a 14-part documentary series, a robust web site, and a national community grass roots outreach campaign funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. All films will initially be offered during the free HBO preview the weekend of March 15 in participating cable systems.
The centerpiece is the 90-minute documentary ADDICTION, debuting March 15, comprising nine segments directed by many of today's leading documentary filmmakers, including: Jon Alpert; Joe Berlinger; Kate Davis and David Heilbroner; Susan Froemke; Liz Garbus and Rory Kennedy; Eugene Jarecki; Barbara Kopple; Albert Maysles, D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus; and Alan Raymond.
THE TRIALS OF DARRYL HUNT (April 26) documents the 20-year aftermath of a harrowing rape-murder and wrongful conviction in the modern American south. Told from the point of view of the principal subjects - Mark Rabil, an unyielding defense attorney, and Darryl Hunt, the wrongfully convicted man - the film offers an eye-opening, provocative and haunting examination of a community and criminal justice system subject to racial bias and tainted by fear. An official selection of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and recent Independent Spirit Award nominee.
WIDE AWAKE (May 22). Alan Berliner puts his struggle with insomnia under the microscope in this groundbreaking, critically-acclaimed personal documentary, which was a hit at Sundance last year. The innovative, visually provocative film probes a debilitating affliction that affects many individuals at some point in their lives.
SHOT IN THE DARK (June 3). Before his success on HBO's "Entourage," Adrian Grenier began making a personal documentary. Raised in New York City by his mother, the actor grew up without really knowing his biological father, but resolved to reconnect with him just before his 23rd birthday. Grenier's film explores the meaning of being fatherless and the necessity of the father-son relationship.
ALIVE DAY MEMORIES: HOME FROM IRAQ (working title) (July 4). This moving documentary surveys the physical and emotional cost of war through soldiers' memories of the day in Iraq when they survived near-fatal wounds. In a war that has left 22,000 wounded, with more than half the injuries too severe to permit a return to active military service, the documentary looks at the advances in military medicine that allow soldiers to return home and celebrate what they call their "alive day." James Gandolfini executive produces and conducts interviews in which the soldiers share their feelings on their future, their severe disabilities and their devotion to the country.

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12, 2007 - Academy Award(r) nominees Paul Giamatti ("Cinderella Man") and Laura Linney ("Kinsey," "You Can Count on Me") will portray John and Abigail Adams in the HBO Films miniseries JOHN ADAMS, with production beginning in February. Stephen Dillane ("The Hours") will co-star as Thomas Jefferson. Based on David McCullough's Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of the American founding father, the seven-hour miniseries will be directed by Emmy(r) Award-winner Tom Hooper (HBO's "Elizabeth I") and produced by Playtone. Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman (HBO's Emmy(r)-winning miniseries "Band of Brothers") will executive produce. Kirk Ellis (Emmy(r)-nominated for "Anne Frank: The Whole Story") writes and serves as co-executive producer. Frank Doelger (HBO's "The Gathering Storm") and David Coatsworth ("Man of the Year") will produce.
JOHN ADAMS will shoot through July 2007 and will air on HBO in 2008, with much of the production to film in Colonial Williamsburg. The producers have received unprecedented cooperation from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, which for the first time will allow a film production to shoot on its 301-acre historic area of restored, reconstructed and historically furnished buildings.
Filming will also take place in other locations, including Richmond, Va. and various sites in Europe. Kary Antholis, senior vice president, miniseries, HBO Films, is the executive in charge of the production.
As told through the eyes of Adams and his wife Abigail, JOHN ADAMS is the story of the birth of the American republic and its first 50 years. Adams was the leader of the American independence movement, the nation's first ambassador to Holland and England, the first American Vice President, and the second American President.

Surely 13 episodes for an HBO season used to be the norm? Then 12 episodes. Now it's either 11 episodes or a 20(ish)-episode season split into two parts. Which I would usually consider to be, in effect, two short seasons. I preferred the predictably of 12/13-episode seasons, but as long as the quality is maintained I don't suppose it matters too much.

Get the fuck over yoursleves, nothing is black and white. The war is not going correctly and costing Americans billions, the muslim community need to grab their balls and actually do something except wallow in self pity and denial, American policy/governence is becoming a laughing joke, fundamnetalism is dangerous in whatever form, there is a huge co-orelation with the poor and crime anyone who thinks otherwise need to pull the head from their ass. The world is not filled with just villains and heroes...it's far more complex than that, so lets all grow up and debate rather than insult or try and use silly trump cards. The Soprano's has sucked for a while, but hopefully they can finish it off on a huge BANG!!

Season 6 wasn't ALL that bad; but it WAS definitely drawn out a bit too much. Why was it necessary to do 3 or 4 episodes about Vito running around in New Hampshire? If they were just going to whack him anyway... they should've just gotten on with it. Other than that I didn't hate this season as much as some did. However, this show is no where near what it was in its' first three seasons. I guess it's a good thing David Chase is wrapping it up.

OK, I'm just sayin'...he does. See the belly on him in the first half season? Looks like he cooked up Edie Falco and ate her. RE: Deadwood, for the record, Milch didn't abandon Deadwood; HBO wanted him to do more show at a radically reduced cost per episode. He felt that he couldn't represent the world he'd created adequately on the budget HBO proposed. Most of the eps took up to 14 days to shoot, they were all like mini-movies. The 2 Deadwood finale films are supposed to go in front of the cameras this summer. I think the guy's a genius; after all, can you dictate amazing, memorable dialogue in iambic pentameter? No? Didn't think so.

I'm hoping for some big things in these last nine episodes ever. And I'm not talking about Tony, Janice, Bobby Baccala girth-wise, or Vito's fanook corpse. My questions: Will Tony live through the finale? Will Carmela, Meadow & A.J.? How 'bout Uncle June? ...and come to think of it Silvio was acting a little funny there for a while... lots of heads, lots of places to roll 'em, and we haven't mentioned Paulie, Christopher or Johnny Sack. I'm hoping for some classic movin' and shakin'... Sopranos style.

The first season was great and it's been going slowly downhill ever since. It's still decent but I'd pick Heroes over it. And Grey's Anatomy. And ER. And Dexter. And 24.
Entourage, on the other hand, is getting better as it goes along. -
That not only addresses what the US did there, but the shit that went down at the prison under Saddam. What passes for torture in the West hardly compares. Do some research, and rise above the level of the right or left' wing's talking points.

As for Deadwood- just read this from Deadwood Stage-
NEW 1/13/2007 - Yesterday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour session for "John From Cincinnati," David Milch mentioned his plans for the two "Deadwood" movies. Some excerpts:
" ...I spent a significant portion of yesterday in collaboration with Evan Wright, who's a wonderful writer, with whom I'm doing the first of the two 'Deadwood' two-hour films. And we're very optimistic about the outcome of that work."
"We have every intention of going forward," he says. He hopes to start work on the first film this summer, after "John" finishes production on its first season. Wright is a contributing editor at Rolling Stone and author of the book "Generation Kill" about the Iraq war.
" ... We're going to put 'John From Cincinnati' on, and it's my deepest hope that, in the scheme of things, enough forgiveness is available from those viewers to just give it a chance. And if I'm given strength and time, we're definitely going to do more 'Deadwoods.'

All the HBO shows I've come to love have sounded interesting from the get-go. This surfer show sounds like the least interesting show of all time. I could be wrong, but it sure does sound like crap. I wish L.A. would get over themselves and start realizing that most of the country/world can't in any way relate to them or their surfer dudes.
As for Abu Ghraib, enough with the photos. Yeah, the ones we saw were arguably innocent enough, but if you actually read the article that went along with them, you'd realize that there's also video of a soldier raping a 14 year old boy. Safire made some comment about having trouble getting over the screams. And Abu Ghraib is only one of many prisons. Kind of makes you wonder what happens when the video is off. Perhaps not for the apologists who will forever defend it as nostalgic and reminiscent of their (seriously fucked up) fraternity days.
