This season has been a return to form and a promise of better things to come.

I really hope that both Ben and Adam get some solid roles as they have proved they can actually act.

i really liked this show its first season, but it's gotten steadily worse and is nearly unwatchable now. that sucks for the talented cast, though, most of whom i imagine will move on to bigger and better things, especially rachel bilson, who is supremely hot and has good charisma onscreen.

That's a tough pill to swallow. It's too bad the dolts at Fox stuck a proven show with a re-growing audience in a Thursday night slot where it was destined to suffer. The execs knew before this season started that the OC wouldn't last beyond 2007...it's obvious that they wanted it gone. These Fox suits have some real issues with scheduling shows properly. Do they NOT want their shows to do well? Argh...anyways hopefully the CW WILL pick it up like Lecko says...i didn't see that anywhere but if there is justice in this world then it will happen. I mean, According to Jim is still on the air but the OC is getting cancelled? There are no words...

There are too many soaps on TV nowadays. Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy(read: Melrose Place in a hospital), almost everything on the CW, and the list goes on. Even House is getting a bit bogged down with soapiness this season. There are too many reality shows too (1 is too many) but that's a different rant for a different TB.

HERC, here's the final word on the OC

    by deus vult

Dearest readers--as a married man, who's lived with a woman for five years, I've been subjugated into watching shows I had no interest in, such as the OC to name one.

As such, I can tell you the first three episodes or so were actually really good, and had a brilliant plot--rich, coked-up, hot, young and slutty So Cal girls acting like total hookers. It was awesome. Then I think Fox insisted it become the 2000's version of the lame and predictable 90210, and unfortunately it did. However, it was always a bit darker and had some good cliff-hangers (of sorts).

Perhaps this is why Herc liked it? I know for me such elements made it semi-enjoyable. But guys like Oliver and the rapist and the lesbian stuff just didn't make much sense and made the show more annoying than I thought possible.

This season showed some promise, but I'm not surprised Fox cancelled it. The core of the show just didn't exist any more (Ryan and Marissa), not unlike when Brenda Walsh was written out of 90210. Amazing how Fox got just what they wanted!

In any case boys, I don't think for a second Rachel Bilson can pull off Wonder Woman unless she gains back the weight she had when she wore the costume in Season 1. She didn't have that hollywood heroin look she has today (ie: boobs were bigger, legs were shapelier, etc)...basically back then she was built like a woman and now she's the classic tomboy beanpole.

No way would that work. She has a face like a munchkin. Wonder Woman needs a strong, noble face--not a cute one.

Are there any shows he's touted loudly that have NOT been cancelled? So c'mon Herc, let's see some love for Men in Trees, Big Day, What about Brian, 'Til Death,The View...pretty much ANY POS show we want gone; if Herc sings their praise, they'll vanish from the air!!

Hopefully it taught Schwartz a lesson...

    by danielkurland

The first season of this show was highly watchable, and the show was still new, Schwartz had no ego, and he wrote a lot of the episodes. As the show gained popularity though, Schwartz realized, he didn't need to write as much any more due to the attractiveness and star pwoer of the cast, and as a result, obviously, the stories sufferred, and sloppy writting like that lesbian storyline came up. Season 2 was still watchable, but season 3 is where is really became awful, and at this point, Schwartz was writing even less. Now, I gave up on the show then, and did not watch this latest season, but I heard it was improving, and Schwartz was writing more, but it looks to be a case of too little, too late. I'll watch the last episode, but hopefully Scwartz is now aware that just because a show is popular doesn't mean that popularity will remain, and that he still needs to work hard on the show, instead of staffing out writing job's to others while coming up with paint by numbers scenarios for the cast to go through.

She seems all wrong to me, personally. Forget the physique, she just lacks a certain... gravitas, I guess. I know there's a reason they call it "ac-ting," but there's also a reason that the job "casting director" exists. I've been reluctant to throw my hat in with all the other Whedon fans who want Morena Baccarin for the job, but the more I think about it, the more I think she'd actually be a good choice.

The show is probably too expensive for them. I bet all the leads think they can go do movies now, especially Adam Brody who was going to quit after this year anyway.
I fell the most bad for Melinda Clarke. The OC gave her a legitimacy that Hercules, Xena, and Hellraiser never could.

    About time

This show was bad. I don't hate on teen shows, but the OC was boring as hell....and those adults were fucking dull as hell.

DevilCat, I'll more or less agree with you, but...

It's not like the first three seasons dealt heavily with high school. Also, Veronica Mars is soing a fine job out of high school, and any suffering it is doing is because of the direction of smaller mysteries vs. long ones, not anything to due with the college transition.

    sad

I think Marissa's death had nothing to do with it. Honestly, I think many fans were shocked to see her go, however the show has been much the better off for it. The ratings weren't great last season. It's always been in a terrible timeslot. I never understood how they could move from Wednesdays in the first place considering it was doing so well there. Oh well, I'm going to enjoy the rest of what I consider to be the shows best season yet. Ryan and Taylor are my favorite new couple.

OC haters are the real losers here:

because even at its weakest, the show was always smart, funny and watchable. as for those psuedo-fans who claim that the show went downhill since the first episode, fuck them. fuck them in their stupid asses. sure, the third season meandered a bit but i never found a story arc as irritating as the oliver one in season 1. still, i guess its better that a good show like the OC goes out strong (cf angel season 5), rather than fade out like ER until its but a pale reminder of its former glory.
