A look at ENTRAPMENT
Here's a look at ENTRAPMENT.... Well, I have to go sleep now...
Long time
reader,
first time ever poster here and hopefully I'll do everything the right way.
Last night, I was told by my dear sainted mother that she had been given
passes to a special test screening of the new Sean Connery movie. I
immediately started dancing cause I knew what movie it was. While I couldn't
remember the title till later I remembered three simple words: Catherine
Zeta Jones.
Oh man, ever since viewing her in The Phantom I've been quite enamored of
her,
and very surprised to see that she seemed all but forgotten until Zorro. But
thankfully she's back now and showing the world what they could had a couple
of years earlier.
Oh yeah wait, Connery's in this movie too.(G) But we don't have to talk
about
him. He's Bond. Nothing left to say. If he doesn't do well, then the world
is
coming to an end.
Then of course we've got Ving Rhames in the movie, Mr. "Whatever part I do
for
a movie ALWAYS raises the level of intensity about twenty notches!" Suffice
it
to say, he got a good role in this one.
Now of course, the movie is called Entrapment for those who are still
wondering and it deals with theives, the lives they lead, and in an attempt
to
be as topical as they can be, they base this stuff around the upcoming new
millenium as we head into the year 2000.
People, people people, when are you going to learn that the actual millenium
doesn't begin until 2001? So in the immortal words of Al Franken, "Everybody
just stay home and relax that night."
Now, the movie itself is a real blast. Connery plays an world class thief
who
loves to steal and leave his own personal type of signature on the items he
stole. Catherine plays an insurance agent enamored with Mr. Connery and
decides to set up a trap to finally arrest him using herself as the bait.
Now I don't wanna get too heavy spoilerish with this stuff and if I do, I'm
sure Harry will make whatever appropriate corrections he needs to. But I
will
say that there are some major plot twists in this movie that I was not
expecting. My jaw actually hit the floor a good once or twice when said
device
showed up on the screen.
The acting on everyone's part is extremely top notch, with everyone
preforming
above and beyond the call of duty. The stunts are extremely realistic,
although I did find myself wondering how someone Connery's age could be
getting into all this trouble?
But he's Bond, let him do what he wants.
The NRG guys had said that the movie probably had some editing still do to
and
the music was a temp score but I'll tell you, the music sounded just right
to
me. This movie didn't even look like it needed a single edit at all. DON'T
CHANGE A THING GUYS!
I did have one major quibble with the movie. Too many times they kept making
close ups of Catherine's behind(will not use that three letter word when
talking about her). Sure, it's wonderful to look at, but I don't think we
need
so many close ups. You guys will get to see how.........athletic Catherine
is
in the movie. And you'll all know what scene I'm talking about with that one
when you see it.
So all in all, GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!! See it for the action, for the plot
twists, for Sean, for Ving, and definitely for Catherine.

The plot for this one sounds an awful lot like "The Thomas Crown Affair," which had Faye Dunaway as the insurance investigator chasing master thief Steve McQueen. There's already a "Thomas Crown" remake in the works -- it seems to me I heard Renee Zellweger is in it, or something -- but this frankly sounds a lot more fun. And I'll take Catherine Z. over Renee Z. any day.
-
There's a Thomas Crown Affair out this summer directed by John McTiernan (Die Hard, Predator, Last Action Hero, etc.). It stars Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo.
Hope it's good, 'cause McTiernan hasn't been firing on all cylinders since The Hunt for Red October! -
why does Hollywood think its believeable that all these old geezers can get 25 year old women?
-
Okay, I'm not one to normally comment on things like this (I mean not at all!). BUT! During
the trailer for Entrapment this weekend (b4 Payback) they had a shot of CZT crawling through an array of IR beams with her back arched...and well...DAMN! My WIFE was moved to distraction.
The movie looked great, and just because of SC and VR we'd go see it no matter who the female lead was...but my GOD is CZJ hot!!! This looks like a can't miss film. -
I didnt think so. Now name a hundred male sex symbols over the age of 40. Its not that hard. I guess in Hollywood, mean age like wine and women age like vinegar.
-
just turned forty. So don't count on her being in anything ever again. How old is Sharon Stone?
-
I mean she posed naked again for playboy not too long ago. Hell, I'd still hit her. But you are right, that's just the way things are those. We men can stay sex symbols for years (because women find the older man attractive for some reason) but women on the other hand don't (because men want a nice, supple 20 something year old, as piggish as that sounds, it's true.
-
I looked forward to seeing ENTRAPMENT prior to reading this guy's comments, but that's not why I write. How could any hetero-sexual man, lesbian woman, or, oh hell, throw in gay men and hetero-sexual women as well, have a problem with seeing too many close ups of Catherine Zeta Jones' behind? It just doesn't make any sense to me. I'm actually more interested in seeing the film now than before!
-
Two words: Sophia Loren. Two more: Pam Grier. Four more: Jaclyn Smith, Cheryl Ladd. And of course, the aforementioned Jamie Lee Curtis and Michele Pfeiffer. And Heather Locklear is closing in...
-
I knew a bunch of people would get me on the technicality of my statement (i was in a rush so i didnt have time to make it very clear). i admit, phiffer (sp?) is very hot, but thats not my point. i shoulda said no female sex symbols over 50, because look up bassinger's carrer when she hits the half-century milestone and youre going to see one out-of-work chick, unless she does the cher or dick clark route. regardless of the cutoff age, there are no female stars of the same caliber, fame, or sex-symbolness of say, connery, nicholson, t.l. jones, eastwood, ford, deniro, pacino, reford, newman, etc etc etc... It's because Hollywood is run by men and men like to fool themselves into thinking that theyre going to be as hot as connery when theyre pusing seventy and that they, like connery or nicholson, will still be able to get chicks like mask of zorro girl or helen hunt. dont bust my balls on the details, cuz i admit there are some hotties in their forties, but you get my point: the age difference between harrison ford and anne heche is even more distracting from the (already ridiclous) love story than heche's homosexuality. i for one would like to see some more female parts for women of age... like the female opposite of connery in the new Playing by Heart (even though the movie looks lame.)

Shelly Winters! Don't get burned, boys.

According to my Jewish calendar, the millenium was almost 4000 years ago....
-
susan sarandon (sexy); julie christie (she was unbelieveable hot in Afterglow)

Check out the latest isssue of the Brittish film mag Total Film to see what I mean. Or rent White Palace.

The Millenium begins at the year 2000. You want proof, I'll give you proof. When you are born, are you automatically 1 years old, or 0? Answer, you are zero. You are not 1 years old until a year later. The year 1 was at the end of the first year. New year day for the year 10 didn't herald the start of the tenth year, but the start of the 11th. News Years Eve/New Years Day 1999/2000 will herald the end of 2000 years, and the beginning of 2001. So, The Millenium will begin and end on New Years Eve/Day 1999/2000. Also, for those of you who think it is 2001, are you going so sit indoors watching telly 1999/2000 and party like its 1999 a year after everyone else? By the way, Catherine Zeta Jones has been a star in England for many years now. I can't belive that it has taken so long for you Yanks to notice her. And she can act.

When an Actor over 50 ends up with a young actress in her 20's during the course of a film, it is just par for the course. It happens all of the time that we take it for granted. When an Actress over 50 ends up with and actor in his 20's during a film, then that is what the film is about. For example, Any Harrison Ford Film or Al Pacino films or countless others, nothing is made of the age group. The only film I can think of where a 50+ woman ends up with a young man is White Palace, and the whole point of the film is that there is an age difference. How often do the 50+ Actors end up with a 40+ woman? I am strained to think of just one. You Dig?
-
CZJ is freakin hot. Now, about the 40+ hotty thing. I have NEVER thought susan surandon was hot, never! Or a WHOLE bunch of the people ya'll named. I agree with Pheifer, but not Kathleen Turner, she is NOT hot. And I totally agree we need some close ups of her ass.

The point of that movie was a older woman falling for a much younger man and look at the uproar it caused. If women date younger men it is called cradle robbing. But when men date younger women it is no big deal. How fair is that?
-
Hello people. forgive me, but shouldn't you be talking about the movie? there are sexy women over forty and CZJ's behind is nice and yes, the new millenium actually begins (on our calendar) in 2001. BUT, Entrapment looks really cool, as anything with one of "THE MEN" (Connery, Sean Connery) in it. CZJ looks great and Ving is a great actor. I will never understand why some people pick our minute points and drone on about them and totally miss the actual subject. But then, as Mr. Frank Sinatra said "That's Life".
-
I don't see what the big deal is with the differences in age. Sure, Bond and Zorro-girl may not match up exactly with what normally happens in the real world, but it's just a movie. It's a fantasy! Movie's don't always have to fit the description of reality. Why is it that someone always has to make a point about every little thing like that. It's simply a device to put two big stars on the same screen. Take it easy, and just enjoy the movie!
-
I Disagree with the idea that we only pick up on the minor points in these talk back sessions. And anyway, it was Ester Rantzen who hosted This Life, not Frank Sinatra.
-
P.S. My last comment was supposed to be Ironic.
-
don't forget Sigourney Weaver (esp the last 15 minutes of Alien) and Adrienne Barbeau (Escape From NY and Swamp thing)
-
Shaft would be right about the Millennium changing at 2000 instead of 2001 except for one minor detail: They did not have a year zero back in year zero. They did not have the concept of zero back then, therefore, they went from 1 B.C. to 1 A.D., skipping zero. That is why anyone who actually knows what he/she is talking about says the millennium starts in 2001.
