Another GRINDHOUSE present - this time 6 Lobby Cards from Robert Rodriguez's PLANET TERROR!!!

Published at:  Dec 21, 2006 1:50:10 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here - this time with 6 of the Robert Rodriguez portion of Grindhouse, called PLANET TERROR. It is amazing that these things are in as good a condition as they are, what with the type of theaters they've frequented. Not nearly enough tape stains and coffee spills. And I wonder if on the back, they're stamped by the various paper distribution houses that held onto these things between engagements - or the collectors that the Weinstein Company probably had to pay through the nose to get these for this big rerelease. Oh well, mine are in better condition, but I'm too lazy to bring them over to my scanner, so these will have to keep you satisfied for now. Here ya go... The only good thing I can see is Rose McGowen.

    by nomihs

She is red hot, whereas the idea is just simmering on the surface. All I have to say is more Q and A. Bring on the whores...As Pops would say. Dirty Work anyone?

    The film!!!!!

    by zakari paolon

I love how scratched up the film is! It looks so fucking oldschool! I heard a rumor there was a reel missing from the movie, on purpose, to recreate the feel of going to see these movies no one took seriously and presented even if five minutes were missing due to the film having burnt while being projected, or scensorship or just bad maintenance. If they had the guts to do that, I praise them! I can honestly say that everything I've seen about this so far has me more and more thrilled.

You guys really know what sucks about Grind House?

    by peterhengl

The fact that internationally it's going to be released as TWO MOVIES. So - no double feature experience for people outside the US. That sucks.

    Lobby Cards

    by therealmoriarty

Says it all. Either you are the type of person that enjoys the fact that there are FUCKING LOBBY CARDS for this film, or you're not. Love it. This is fetish as art, fellas, and done right, it's a beautiful thing. If you've ever been to a QT Fest, you can testify... his love of exploitation and grindhouse is true, not kitsch, and he's not making fun of the films he shows.

Tarantino and Rodriguez doing grindhouse is akin to Warhol doing soup cans. It's culture as comment on culture, and it's the degree to which they carry the fetish that makes it even more fun.

I want the standee in my living room. Now.

You're going to have real problems getting let on a plane with that leg, love. And even if you do get on, you're going to have to ask for an aisle seat.

YouTube took down the trailer that was shown back a month or two for copyright infringement. Does anybody have a mirror?

    Lobby Cards

    by spandau belly

I bought that collector's edition of Beyond The Valley of the Dolls and it came with reprinted lobby cards from the original release and they cracked me up. I'm too young to remember lobby cards actually existing, but I found it a cool thing to include in a DVD package.

I love collecting old lobby cards (my faves are horror/sci fi films of the 50s and 60s) and the spirit of these is just fucking amazing. Damn.

    by uncapie

If they're going rip off the format they might as well do it right. And that's what they're doing; ripping it off. The ironic part is, they're making $20 million dollar A.I.P. movies that Sam and Jack did for $300,000. What their doing is called a ballyhoo. If they were smart, they'd create the whole pressbook format. Send it all out there. Widnow cards, 40x60's, 24 sheets, etc. You may have worked in a video store, and that's cool, but I grew up around all this at a drive-in theater my dad owned.

    extremely cool, but...

    by treadwell

    ...a minor nit:

There would not be film print scratches on publicity photos used to make the lobby cards. ;)
