Foundation Imaging's "The Universe & Harry Morgann" ((dark comedy pilot))

Glen here...

...with a little news regarding a new project from Foundation Imaging.

For those who might not know, Foundation Imaging are the CGI FX folks responsible for the
first three seasons of Babylon 5. They have also done some work on Star Trek: Deep
Space Nine
, handle many of the FX currently featured in Star Trek: Voyager, some
work on Las Vegas' Star Trek: The Experience, Batman & Mr. Freeze: Subzero,
etc. More information about Foundation can be found HREF="http://www.foundation-i.com">by clicking here.

A pretty cool resume.

Well, Foundation apparently has some aspirations beyond simply contracting out to do FX
work. This certainly does not suggest Foundation is about to get out of the FX biz. Rather
the reverse - they have several immense (and effects intensive) projects on the horizon which will
dazzle science fiction fans and CGI buffs alike.

But Foundation is interested in broadening its horizons a bit. Case and point: The
Universe & Harry Morgann
.

The Universe & Harry Morgann is a black comedy whose pilot is currently being
filmed. And, for the record, the "Harry Morgann" of the title has no relation to the old
M*A*S*H actor.

The Harry Morgann pilot is writen by Paul Bryant, and is being directed by Tom Bull
(who won an Emmy last year for a Chris Rock comedy special). The show is set in the future,
and is about a rogue named HARRY MORGANN (played by Will Kempe (L.A. Doctors,
Hercules, The Last Days of Disco / Metropolitan) - who is something of a futuristic
Robin Hodd. He's not squeaky clean, he's a bit of womanizer, but is described as "totally
charming". His ship is named The Revenge, and he and his crew have all been "screwed"
somehow.

Other characters in the show include:

**JONAS (Jimmy Olson in Superman: The Movie). Jonas is the "father of modern
genetics", and something of a surrogate father to Harry.

**BRITTANY: Harry's security consultant, played by Lisa Akey. Described as "the ultimate
NRA spokesbabe".

**FAITH: who keeps Harry on the level, and in-check. Faith is the "smart and funny" engineer
of The Revenge, and is played by Jennifer Sommerfield (Diagnosis: Murder and The
Burning Zone
).

**INGRID: Harry's confidant and close friend, who owns a sex club on an outpost named New
Rodeo. Part madam, part entrepreneur, Ingrid is played by Pat Tallman (Lyta Alexander on
Babylon 5).

While there's not much I can say about the actual look of this show (which is a pretty
intriguing question given the setting and Foundation's involvement), here's a hint of the show's
grander sensibilities: there will be no people running around in rubber masks and funny looking
foreheads when an "alien" is required to be on-screen.

While Harry Morgann doesn't seem too eager to dive into the unforgiving and perilous
task of incorporating "aliens" into its concept, there are definite indications that whatever aliens
might end up on-screen in the series' hypothetical future will not be conveyed by people
running around in prosthetics . Seems Foundation's plans call for Harry Morgann's aliens to
be something "really alien". Again, this presupposes the show were to incorporate aliens at
all...

So there you have it, folks. More on this project as more info comes along. Hey, any series
which has Pat Tallman as the manager of a sex club ? The male demos will soar...

    Foundation getting busier

    by leew

Hmm, sounds like someone with a good demo reel should get in touch with Foundation. Besides the comedy pilot, they're likely involved with several other new things that may be getting off the ground soon, including Buckaroo Banzai.
