We have tons of BEOWULF stills for ya'! See dragons, vikings and super hot Jolie!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here to present some snuck images from the upcoming Robert Zemeckis BEOWULF flick, adapted by madmen Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman. I visited the Beowulf offices ages ago (CLICK HERE TO READ THAT REPORT!) and was really impressed with what I saw. Amongst the stuff that was shown to me were a handful of production art and effects test images that appear in the below. Our spy, "The Jabberwocky," got us scans of what looks to be a Making Of type book on the flick. You'll see some place holder captions that are jokey and, I'd assume, won't be in the final product. But the imagery is real and gives you a taste at what to expect next November when BEOWULF is unleashed on us. Catch a glimpse while you can. You'll see glimpses of settings, creatures, weapons and some key scenes in different forms... There are some tests, designs, production art, and some finished animation. You'll also see how some of the actors will look (keep in mind not one of the pics with an actor's face is a photo, it's all computer generated). I anticipate that Angelina Jolie work below will spill some protein tonight. Sadly no Grendel, but I can assure you... from what I saw... he will not disappoint. Enjoy the pics! You can click on some to get bigger versions - just scroll the mouse over the pics and find the ones you can click. There are at least a half-dozen of 'em that can get bigger. (PS, also look really close in this first pic... there's an incredibly geeky cool Where's Waldo.)

bare-ass jolie the entire time?
-
Not... bad...
-
Good thing I didn't say "first"
-
That was amazing.
-
The Polar Express is pure terror. Bet this is as lifeless.
-
OUTSTANDING!
-
hint: it weighs the same as a bag of dirt.
-
Robert Zemeckis makes movie magic, the REAL stuff, when he's on. That looks pretty damn ON to me. Plus, I've actually read Beowulf several times - so I'm excited to "see" the story. Also! Neil Gaiman is my freakin' hero! lol So I'm there.
-
is he like the gangsta version of a caiman?
-
Just beautiful to the eye. I don't know why I doubted Zemeckis but I couldn't get that awful look of The Polar Express out of my head. But THIS is exactly how Beowulf should look. I'm floored and this hust hit my radar in a big way.
-
Or will it be a mix of live action or what?
-
Well this movie totally blindsided me. I thought is was going to be a cartoon like Spirited Away. I never figured it would look like this. Wow.
-
and yet, Michael Bay is not in the picture! Still, it is a sweet ass, and I like the shot of Angelina with her tits on fire!
-
...Though after the nightmare that was The Polar Express, I'll reserve judgement until I see some actual moving footage.
-
I didn't feel like looking. <p> And I suppose I'm the only one who loved Polar Express.
-
LOOK AT THAT ASS!!!
-
Those pics look amazing. I'm looking forward towards this movie alot more now. Is there a for sure NC-17 version of it or did they just say it's being talked about?
-
Aicn you really must stop it with all the great stuff recently. I don't think my heart can take it! This looks outstanding!
-
got this beat
-
A pretty audacious task in adaptation, yet another literary classic to get the Hollywood treatment. This has such great potential, not just for the in-built action quotient, but as the antecedant which inspired the likes of LOTR there a simlar depth and density in Beowulf's characterisations and themes which could add more depth and elevate this beyond a mere CGI adventure yarn. I trust Zemekis on this property, good batting average to date. Word is the CGI is going to raise the bar, so I'd be inclined to forget the smartie tube low poly lameness of Polar Express (environments were nice tho)and hope for more of calibre of Square studios, and with Alan Silvestri on form this could seriously deliver the goods!
-
...you'll have Brad knocking on the door. Still, the design is certainly less 'CGI' looking than I expected.... shit, it looks just like those short animated Shakespeare things we got years ago. A GCI cartoon is gotta be better at acting than the Gerard Butler and Stellan Skarsard thing I saw.
-
I never doubtet this film would be special and have been waiting for this a looong time. Quint and aicn, you rule! Next year gonna rock so mych it´s sick. First 300 then this, then Spiderman 3 then Pirates 3 then... then Batman Begins in 2008. Fuck yeah. That Ursula girl with big ear-ring looks best I think. Most human-like.
-
or whatever the fuck Bootstraps Bills real name is
-
That´s the company providing the tech: http://www.mova.com./gallery.php?g=examples
-
And who are those other viking chicks? Looks like Robin Wright Penn and Alison Lohman. Am I right here?
-
Many (including the most human-looking) are labelled "watercolour", and while some are labelled "digital", I think they're just referring to digital composites, because...this is all concept art, guys. That's why it has the artist's name credited on it. Particularly look at # 18 and 20 - it's just the same pic of Jolie's face pasted on different (possibly CG, possibly painted) bodies. Still, though - the designs look fantastic. Maybe Quint can clear this up...I don't think we're seeing any CG characters in these pics. Except maybe that POV shot of the sword.
-
"they call him Belosh"
-
Yes, I can see it. This film will rock because 'Beowolf' rocks and Angie rocks and Gaiman rocks and Zemeckis rocks. Avary however has some apologising to do for 'Silent Hill'. I thought he could write?
-
Check out the site for mova.com and you´ll see the technology is there today. Yeah those other chicks are Alison Lohman and a Robin Wright Penn who has been aged with some new computer program Quint was talking about.
-
I was more impressed BEFORE i saw these pics. I'm sure it looks good in motion but these still really do look like mid 90's Lands of Lore style renders. "What no hidden lever here?"
-
..looked much nicer than Jolie. I hope she is based on an actual person, or it's a bit weird.
-
That Alison Lohman picture is PSed from an Entertainment Weekly image from a few years ago... http://alisonlohmanfan.com/gallery/albums/magenterweekly/01.jpg Most of these are probably real but I have some doubts about those images of Angelina Jolie and Robin Wright Penn... Hmmm...
-
But then so is my exploding brown asshole......excuse me more of the hershey squirts, god I'm so sick of this...still rather be doing this than watching Eragon or thinking about how Capt. Panaka raped all of those babies........
-
But, um, is there some extended version of Beowulf that I haven't read?
-
This is awesome. My 2 favourite actors, battling to the death, in a beautifully rendered fantasy world, populated by dragons, demons and Angelina Jolie. Think. I've. Cum.
-
I'm assuming this is concept art / mock-ups using existing photos of the actresses. Many of the Jolie images look familiar to me, and I think they're photos I've seen.
-
I don't think I've ever seen the Flying Squirrel-like membrane on a design before...
-
Between this, the Raimi/Shadow/Spiderman 3news, the Del Toro news, and Grindhouse my heart can heal from Superman Returns.
-
If it is fake, then it's the same fake I saw in the Beowulf production offices. I think one of the above talkbackers had it right when they said it was probably built on an existing photograph of Lohman.<BR><BR>I was told at the production offices that what I was looking at had not one bit of real photography to it and was a test to see how well their software could emulate an actor's face.<BR><BR>My guess would be they couldn't get Lohman in the studio to scan her, so they built hers based on a publicity still.<BR><BR>As for the dead eye syndrome, that is my #1 concern as well. I voiced this to the people in the offices and they told me they have devised a process that tracks eye movement, lid blinks, brow movement. They said that of all the criticisms from Polar Express, that's the one Zemeckis took to heart.<BR><BR>I'll believe it when I see it, but having watched the Dead Man's Chest documentaries, I see they did something very similar with Bill Nighy's effects work for Davy Jones. Fingers crossed.
-
...about the Jolie character laying around naked and getting it from guys and other hot chick creatures. We've seen enough trolls and dragons for a couple years, I think. In the hay, getting nailed. In the water, getting nailed. Stretched out supine on the boat deck, getting nailed. Sunning herself on a rock, legs akimbo, getting nailed. In a warm mud bath, getting nailed... That's the movie I want to see.
-
lmfao.<P>that's too funny...and all too true!
-
i concur
-
What's with Angelina covered in banana sauce? Not that I'm complaining.
-
...what a lousy movie that was. Bring on the yummy Angelina-ness.
-
yay for typical fantasy movies. Where are all the orcs and potions?
-
I’ll just stick to what we have. I hate the animated stuff that they’re trying to churn out now. It’s mainly made by directors that hate working with actors and want complete control over their animated counterpart.
-
Grendel better be a wisecracking monster who spouts out pop culture references years before they even exist. Hilarious.
-
I second that idea abominate. Let's make a computer generated Angelina Jolie fuckfest out of this, and then make the real movie too. Best of both worlds I'd say.

I read the poem and am confused about some of this ....
by kinghenryVIII
the skeletal monster looks cool. All the concept art looks cool but is this some sort of extended version? I don't remember some of this beingin the epic (read it 15 years ago). But nonetheless, if it's included the right way then this will kick some big time ass. Looks like the HEAVEY METAL movie we have always wanted! I used to draw titties from that mag when i was 13 to practice my cartooning skills. By the way - Angelina has caused me to not be able to stand up for a while. And I say, with much meaning, THANK YOU!
-
I would guess that the movie is only loosely based on the poem. As for the skeletal dragon, maybe that's for reference. There might be some artists who wanted to start from a skeleton so they could get an idea of how the thing might actually move realistically, kinda building it from the ground up. Maybe. I dunno.
-
Only good part of Beowulf and Grendel was Beowulf trying to understand what the hell Grendel was saying. That was funny.
-
Anyone else have any luck? Anyone? Bueller?
-
For all those people wondering how Beowuld could possibly be NC-17, this explains a lot. And frankly, that looks fucking AMAZING. If there is a theatrical NC-17/Unrated release, I'm not just there once... but every day during it's entire theatrical run.
-
It doesn't look like a family feature to me, hopefully at least a PG-13 (with a R later on DVD). What's the point of rending Jolie's ass if they aren't going to use it? Looks great, but then again, all pre-production art usually does.
-
then you'll know what "Waldo" is, so stop posting about it.
-
It's the "leg" lamp from Christmas Story, just to the right of the tan amphora. <p> In other news, is that what Grendel's mom is going to look like? Give me a break.
-
Now I'm really mixed up.
-
If Alison Lohman rides a horse in this movie, I'm there on opening day: http://tinyurl.com/tha39
-
maybe i'm a killjoy, but that concept art looks suspiciously like something from the latest 'spectrum' wanna-be frazetta fantasy art compendium. i've seen that ass so many times i should put it on my 'friendster.' can't we get some energy and aggression and craziness up in there? angelina is sooo hot for so many weird reasons and all they did was slap her face on some typical shit! that's bush league, zemeckis is paying those artists way too much for them to use their same-old bags o tricks.
-
I want to hide an object in Angie's purty mouf, then her aprhoditic visage shall be annointed with sweet ambrosia nectar, pudding of the gods!! Hey, is mjolnir gonna be in this? Anyone else notice that Angie is clinging to some dude in that painting? The first twenty minutes should just be the Angie mer-creature disrobing, slinking her way down marble steps into a wading pool, sponging her ample bosom like Kelly McGillis in Witness, then ascending from the pool to be annointed with oil by similarly unclad female concubines. The following forty minutes will be the sex stuff I was talkin' about, then a dragon should come, and inside of seven seconds they kill it with a surface to air missile, then back to Angie in the wading pool, roll credits.
-
look to the lower left of the the three swords and imagine switching it with a bag of sand.
-
Glad I already saw them. I can not wait for this movie!
-
Anyone have them saved somewhere?
-
No!!! I can't print them at work! I gotta do it at home!! How am I gonna Buff the Bishop? Polish the pineknob? Chastise the chimp? Tenderize the bologna?
-
No!!! I can't print them at work! I gotta do it at home!! How am I gonna Buff the Bishop? Polish the pineknob? Chastise the chimp? Tenderize the bologna?
-
I hope so. My eyes are gonna start bleeding if I stare at that pic any longer.
-
any new links?
-
Never thought it could happen to me!!! O fortuna!!! That is all. Oh yeah...pants. That's right...I said it.
-
If you remove the pictures, remove the post. Otherwise its completely pointless. Like this comment.
-
Should I share the link or not? Hmmm.
-
They're not fake, but most of them aren't final designs. They're mostly concepts...
-
SOMEONE...POST....LINK....NOW!
-
Puhleasezzee? I would really love to have em.
-
oh god. let the flaming begin.
-
BTW, one of the pics is still over at joblo.com

in various poses and sultry smiles. Part of me says I'll catch something and part of me says "let the cobb fall off", but, DAMN, DAMN, DAMN, I wish I could ride Brad Pitts shaft as he beats that muff! Beat that muff like it owes you money brotha!
-
Going up now at filmick.blogspot.com Getting them up as quickly as I can...
-
Is that what the "fade to flesh" shot is?
-
Change the fucking title of the article! Glad I saw these this morning while they were up, but at least add a "DON'T see tons of pics..." or something like that.
-
He is amused by AICN because all he has is teeny tiny pics and you managed to post them all huge online...for a littlw while anyway. He did say this to settle the pondering once and for all "Probably worth pointing out that this is "concept art" though. Some of it is simply a "what if we try this?", and not the way something will look in the finished film."
-
...I think the 'held sword' image is a still, of sorts, however. Obviously that the rest is concept art. Didn't really need Neil Gaiman to point that out, did we?
-
Food, Water, Air, Shelter, and Sex. So of COURSE we didn't NEED Neil to point that out. But he did so I did so oh the-holy-titty-fuck well.
-
Those images do nothing for me, but at least I won't have to be curious...thanks for posting them.
-
Didn't get to see em, anyone that saved them want to post them somewhere else? I love the Beowulf story and this sounds intriguing.
-
Seriously? I'm not sure I've ever been so let down in my life as I am now. Those pics suck. They look like shitty generic fantasy paintings. I can find better whack-off mateial just by wandering through the fantasy isle at Barnes and Noble. This shit sucks so far. Polar Express + LOTR = creepiest and most inhuman movie ever. This is going to dominate Final Fantasy in teh human-but-not-human-shit-movie category. Enough drunken ramblins for one night. I hate you all. Love, Me.
-
Already been done. Scroll up... I'm quite in love with the possibilities of this film. Zemeckis is one of my favourite directors, Neil Gaiman is certainly my favourite (living) writer.
-
You sir are a God for mentioning Emperor Gullotine!
-
But the e-mail address that sent the request wouldn't accept replies and couldn't be verified... So I don't exactly want to delete them if there's no need. Maybe somebody here at AICN can confirm who their request to remove the images came from...? If it's the same person, then, well... fair enough.
-
i hate how quikcly pics are being taken down here ... seems like a ploy to create hype ... but hey .. J's ass .. nice
-
She's skinny as fuck nowadays, just like every other actress. Yawn.
-
SOMEONE has to have saved the pic of Jolie's arse! i'm begging you folks...
-
Or a painting supposed to be Jolie's arse. She has never, and will never, unless artificially rendered, had an ass that nice. She's a skinny white chick. She doesn't have a badonk-adonk.
-
...at filmick.blogspot.com - but not for much longer, I fear. But then, anybody with an e-mail subscription to that blog would receive them in their inboxes, to keep forever and ever.
-
for scoops on this site these days it seems. why does it seem like an hour after something is posted on here its gets immediately taken "by request"...know what i say? GROW SOME BALLS HARRY AND TELL THE STUDIOS TO GET FUCKED!!! im fucking tired of having to go through 50 fucking mirror sites that sont fucking work to find these things.
-
Sorry, but NC-17 is still the kiss of death (and I'm not sure where all the sex stuff is coming from - there isn't any in the original poem, just a whole lot of violence), and unless 300 does very well, an R for a fantasy film is still pretty dicey. You're going to have to wait for the DVDs.
-
.when it was quite clearly 'The Future'..? BTW - Anything with Jolie in it sucks dogs eggs so this will be shi-ite... just like the rubbish 'Sky Captain' that Harry constantly wet himself over. And let's not forget - you can't trust Quint after his 'War of the Worlds' set report. The bloke came away with Cruise's shit all over his proboscis and Spielberg's hype machine indelibly stained his typewriter.
