A Chrismukkuh Carol!! THE OC Is Sucked Into An Alternate Universe!!

Published at:  Dec 14, 2006 12:17:26 AM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

“Grey’s Anatomy” and “CSI” are in repeats this week, so this might be a good time to revisit “The OC,” which I understand is regaining ratings ground as the fourth season embraces its more comedic roots.

Last week’s episode, which revealed new facets of both the MiniCoop and Summer’s hippie companion, was pretty great.

This week the show apparently takes a sci-fi turn as unlikely couple Ryan Atwood and Taylor Townsend find themselves in a Newport that bears little resemblance to the one they knew.

9 p.m. Thursday. Fox.

It doesn't actually take a sci-fi turn, does it?...

    by danielkurland

I'd be saying jump the shark if the show hadn't already done it in season 3, and if the phrase wasn't so stupid.

    This show is still on???

    by hamtaro_hentai

I tried to watch it a couple of years ago, and I actually made it about 20 minutes before I realized it sucked (which is actually 10 minutes more than I made it with Desperate Housewives)

listen to me! i'm an OC-hater visiting an OC-talkback! isn't this show off the air yet? i've never watched it so i have no idea what i'm talking about! but i nonetheless know that season 4 is the worst OC season ever! it's worse than season 3, which was worse than season 2, which was worse than season 1, which was when it officially jumped the shark on the very first episode, right before the opening titles! seriously, i'm a know-nothing ignorant humourless fuck with a pitchfork up my ass and shit for brains! and that's why i'll always be proud to call myself an OC-hater!

    J.T.S. or New Expression?

    by hagakure

Apparantly the phrase "Jumped The Shark" has become prosaic, so what is the new expression to use to describe the exact moment when a show became extinct by its own accord?

    A SCI-FI Turn?

    by zer0cool2k2

C'mon, it's a Chrismakkuh episode. It's going to be much more "It's a wonderful life"/"A Christmas Carol" than Star Trek/BSG. More fantasy than Sci-fi. Unless of course I'm wrong and Ryan & Taylor end up on the run from pod-infected OC'ers and a reanimated Marissa.

    It's actually improving

    by hell_bender

Series one was great, two was worse, three was terrible. But it's actually picking up again. Last weeks ep was the best it's been in a very long time and I hope that it continues this way.

    I HATE this damn...

    by kid z

..."It's A Wonderful Life" knock-off plot that every damn show in existence drags out at Xmas! The only show to ever do it right was Married, With Children where everyone turned out BETTER if Al Bundy had never existed (Bud was popular, Kellie was a virgin, etc.) And a plus was Sam Kinnison as the angel.

It's a lot better this year.

    by big jim

The last 2 years has been so overly melodramatic to the point that I didn't care if Marissa died. And seeing how this season it's more about the funny and less "oh woe is us" I'm glad she's gone. But Seth is still being a dick. He used to be the champion of all things geek, but now he's the guy who makes 5-year old girls cry because they don't know the X-men movies were based on a comic. Instead of being someone who encourages others to take an interest in the things he likes, he's now someone who feels superior to anyone who doesn't know as much as him. And for those who still want to use the term "Jump the Shark", it doesn't simply mean that a show sucks, or had a bad episode, or isn't as good as it once was. It's more specific. It means the moment when a show becomes a parody of itself. When you go from laughing with it to laughing at it.

Seriously, I sit through this show with the missus, and it's not SO bad this year, and the girl that plays Taylor is SERIOUSLY hot.

    Taylor Townsend is hot

    by nemesisdarkside

Summer is also obviously. When I heard about cage-fighting, I was seriously thinking that this show was on it's way out, but if it's actually returning to it's past glory I may have to tune in via Transatlantic Cable.
