GHOST RIDER transformation looks very cool!
SPOILER ALERT !!
Hey folks, Harry here - Witty4One dropped me an email pointing me towards Marvel.Com's Ghost Rider Movie Blog where they had the below badass behind the scenes clip. This was one of the films that I almost went after for BUTT-NUMB-A-THON this year, but decided to go after 300 instead. I'm still dying to see this.... I have my fingers crossed hoping it works fantastic! Here ya go...

-
Incredible. His transformation is like the inside of a twink pen. In other words, I can't see anything.
-
That's never gonna heal if you don't stop picking...
-
Nic Cage's acting that is
-
that says it all
-
This one could go either way. Could be pretty good, could be awful. We'll see.
-
but his track record is lookin' paul anderson-esque. And i doubt this will be his "event horizon," exploding eyeballs aside.
-
Wow amazing work... I'm talking of course about nicholas cages hair in any movie over the past 10 years.
BTY daredevil was based on a true story.... my story -
This has been online for MONTHS. Seriously.
-
isnt there a question mark missing after 'aint it cool' these days? To whitch the answer would be no. unless youre reading the stallone Q&A. Bruce campbell next!!
-
Shouldn't that explode after a while?
-
The way he kept screaming "My legs! My legs!" in his last movie...
-
Well spotted my son. You have totally ruined the credibility of the classic ' sold his soul/ skull faced riding mo fo'
Still good work!! -
We keep reading in TB how those who complain should try themselves. MSJ has done so and succeeded with the director cut Daredevil, yet continues to be blasted for the studio release of same. I don't understand this, given the Singer fans of X1,2 and Singer apologists of Singerman Returns.Lookit, gang, X1 was claustrophobic, made for TV fare. X2 improved. And SR waws a major step back. Can we please at least give MSJ his X2 due? Please? I see a way more talented and hungry comic fan director in him than Singer or even Raimi. Please. Check out DD director cut *objectively*, judge it on its merits, contrast to Singer's crap, and THEN challenge me. Thanks.
-
I heard that the actual wicker man from the original has sued on ' shit remake' grounds...
-
oops i mistakenly added a 't' after the 'n'
-
hmmm, yeah that was very pointless. Woopdy doo, a guy explaining how cool it looks. Wonderful. Not going to watch this just like I never watched Daredevil. Just knew right from the start it was pointless to even waste my time. Nic was once exciting in his Raising Arizona, Wild at Heart days. About the only film in the late 90's that was excellent from him was Brining Out the Dead(one of my favorites) but that was due to it being a Martin Scorsese film.
-
Wild At Heart, fine, never had the chance to see it (in fact, never sought it out). And who didn't dig Raising Arizona? Not going to watch this just like you never watched Daredevil? Case in point. You judge this material based upon subjective interpretation of what you *thought* DD was. How does you TB ho0ld any water... except for yourself? And, therefore, ...why write it?
-
... is actually from the extended version of 'world trade center' where we see old cagey getting a jump start on those terrorists
-
Damn everyone from the original Wicker Man should sue for the remake. Better yet make them destroy all prints so the memory of the orginal in not tarnished. Think about how horrible it would be in 5yrs from now if people think that your idiot for proclaming how wonderful Wickerman is when your really talking about the Christopher Lee one. That's is what I am always scared about with these remakes. I hope future generations will know of the orginals of stuff like the wickerman or the omen.
-
two words...Ben Affleck... you cant polish a turd mate!
-
Every remake should have to pay a 'shit movie tax' then they wouldnt get made. Voila!! Name me 3 remakes better than original.. go on dare ya!!
-
I don't dispute this at all. DD, even the director cut, certainly had its flaws. I still don't dig the playground tourney, the "please don't go" rooftop huggy scene, and the bloody palm dripping Bullseye asking for forgiveness from "the devil" in a church.Ben Affleck rose above such material and his acting gave weight to the character, unexpectedly. Yes, he did better than I gave him credit for. Sue me for thinking so.Fans were clamoring for Guy Pearce, yet I was begging for Thomas Jane. You make due with what you have. Ben didn't suck. Didn't prevail, yet didn't suck.
-
Are so new and hip and never been done before....oh wait...nevermind.

Anyone remember Adaptation? I wouldn't exactly say he can't act or hasn't been in a good movie since whatever. I mean, he was basically playing Paul Giamatti, who might've been better in the role, but it was still hella good. When's Kauffman's next movie?
-
but that was hitchcock remaking himself
-
but it was not better then the orginal, about equal.
-
Scarface. Cape Fear. The Fly. What do I win?
-
Most people think the Pacino one is best. I don't but that's my opinion
-
Can only name 2 that my heart totally agrees with: The Fly & The Thing. I can name 2 remakes in the works that are putting the shits up me: The Warriors & Tale Of Two Sisters.
-
Isn't Ben-Hur a remake? Also, the Bogart Maltese Falcon was the third adaptation of that book.
-
I like the silent one but the Heston one is more exciting
-
beat me to it
-
Good gravy, I don't care about this one bit.
-
Oooh soo close but the fly.. nope not as good a 'heeelp me!!!' Cape Fear nope.. it feels really dated now
Ben Hur.. nope the original far superior... The thing...Yup 100% -
Right thats 2 shit remakes youve done... 'Wickerman' and 'city of angels' one more and you banished to the hasbeens home for shit old actors. Where you can play poing pong with Steve Guttenburg and take a dip on the jacuuzi with Steven Segal...
-
yes the original fly is better. Cape Fear and Ben Hur I feel are almost on equal levels with the orginals. The orginal Ben Hur has many moments of HOLY SHIT!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ACTAULLY FILMED THAT.
-
I'm bored just going through my memory of films
-
That is pretty fucking cool!!!!!!
-
those are the only films you can actually, maybe argue which one is better
-
Casino Royal... The Thing... and
Scarface.. now the 3 worst... a prize for the best worst movies!!!!
-
How long till jokes about cages hair?
-
as in great film really bad remake...Get Carter, Psycho, Rollerball, pissidon just keep em coming
-
look at post 7. there you go!!!
-
Looks like you're the winner! that was a good one lol...
-
All I saw were a bunch of stills and it's not enough to make me want to pay 11 bucks to see "the real transformation". Blah
-
I would not put Casino Royale as a remake. Yes it was a short lived tv show but nothing like the books really(american actor) and the David Niven one was really just a spoof not an adaption of the book.
-
can't keep track of them all
-
I was looking forward to this flick already but this seals it. CAGE IS INSANE!
-
Never Say Never Again(even the master Connery could not save that) Psycho, and The Wicker Man
-
Oh well lets rub casino royale and put in.... The Lake House? JUST KIDDING.. ok I'll go with bollocks...erm... The Blob?
-
whaleblubber. how can anyone find that cool
-
Yup for choosing wickerman and ghostrider and city of angels and National Treasure AND the hair!!!
-
I don't know, even though The Man who knew too much was a hitch remake of a hitch I would still put that on my list of the best
-
damn I like you. Can't understand something like what whaleblubber said.
-
But I thought National Treasure was fun. Not great, by any means, but fun.
-
How about Chris Rock in the rom com 'They call me MR. Tibbs'
-
*Yawn.*
-
that would be funny actually, but no yeah geez could you imagine
-
Would probably make me put a gun in my mouth. I don't even care who's attached to it. I would rather kill myself then see even a trailer for it.
-
http://www.ghostridermovieblog.com/archives/2006/10/
-
Why oh why. The original was made 10 mins ago... Next we have Michael Bay remaking 'the birds' with Scarlett Johansson..(you just wait!!)
-
A little while ago they posted a story about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with Damon and Affleck. That would've gone over REALLY well.
-
a remake of the godfather will happen you know it.
-
Cage couldn't even get famous being related to famous people. If he hadn't eaten that cockroach in Vampire's Kiss, he would have faded off into made-for-tv land . . .
BTW, the trailer for this film sucked sasquatch balls. Ghost. Rider. Will. Suck. Period. -
It will happen and I will die.
-
Check Ghost Rider Transformation. It's been on there for like months.
-
I had to watch the Newman/Redford one just to get the image of Ben and Damon out of my head
-
oh yeah, I can see it now, Michael Rapaport is Don Corleone.
"You used all the toilet paper, Floyd!" -
I don't care how they try to hype this up, it's still a turd. The CG is god awful and they're dumping in the Feb. wasteland.
-
I dont have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of.. Yeah with Mark Whalberg and Justin Timberlake...
-
I'm already reaching for my gun.
-
BANG!
-
Suicide is no joke, kids.
-
Why post a bunch of concept art? Is this old?
-
be remade at some point. Then one day Hollywood will find it's imagination again, someday. I can only dream.
-
Moonstruck. Anybody? And I agree that this is going to be a big fucking movie, whether you want to admit it or not. Every kid in America is gonna go see this and then go buy the toys.
-
...and all you Cage Haters will be reminded why he is still a movie star after all these years. 'Wouldn't be famous if he didn't eat a cockroach in Vampire's Kiss?' Are you fucking kidding me?
-
and I would rather watch a film from the 50's, 60's or 70's then today. All the best directors are fading away. Kubrick is dead, Coppola has dryed up(too busy playing with his grapes) Martin is still going strong at least. Tarintio and Robert are fun but not great.
-
and he is throwing out stuff like daredevil. Cage is in the same boat. I liked him when he was young in the early 80's and early 90's but not now. Maybe if he does another Lynch he might redeam himself
-
Chris Nolan, Wes Anderson, Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, and hell, Clooney's two-for-two.
-
The Fountain was the balls.
-
in a good way!
-
He's the best character in comics. Period. And the trailer looks like the comic come to life. I am so fucking there. Anymovie where Nic Cage lights on fire can't be too bad.
-
Oh yeah I forgot Clooney is kicking ass. Yeah there all amazing directors, but I don't think we will see the likes of a Kubrick or a Martin for a long time to come
-
That would have fucking rocked hard.
-
Aronofsky is probably the closest to Kubrick we're ever going to get. And when I say that, I mean that the only film I can compare The Fountain to is 2001, even though they're so totally different.
-
I wouldn't worry about replacing Scorsese, I don't think he's going anywhere.
-
Yeah I love Aronofsky. I agree with you on that. He has some amazing talent and balls for the films he makes. I kind of take all that director thing back, sort of. I guess I feel we don't have anymore "Gods" of film or at least not too many more left and some will dye soon enough
-
but scorsese is about it and I was going to actualy compare Aronofsky with Kubrick in the stories that they choose and there willingness to break borders.
-
I saw they got the Hellfire Shotgun. And they got a great write up from the footage they showed to the press last week. But if they don't got the Stare they don't got SHITE!!!!
-
Far too much horseshit comes out of studios today. There once was a time when lots of movies were good (or so I'm told, I'm sadly too young to remember it). It's just important to remember that there is still talent out there making films, their films just don't get the exposure that great films used to get. I mean, how many people do you know that saw Adaptation? Confessions of a Dangerous Mind? Memento? Some, for sure, but not nearly enough.
-
hardly have talked about Ghost Rider. A lot about remakes and directors. Oh well, shows my intrestin this film.
-
I think. Should've been young talents are out there. I don't know why I'm correcting such a miniscule mistake on this site of all places.
-
the great films of today get pushed to the side. Luckly Memento did get some good exposure at the time. I'm actually in the middle of watching Following by Nolan
-
Don't worry about it. Look at my post. They are full of errors and it drives me nuts.
-
I'm going to pretend like your shift from "post" to "they" is a clever nod to the mistake I mentioned. Not saying that it isn't.
-
BITCHES!
-
from the top slot.
-
Freedomfighter?
-
and have nothing better to do.
-
up there!
-
same here Quinn not much going on here in my new home state of Oregon
-
there yet?
-
We got it! Woohoo! [Cork pops] Damn I'm a loser.
-
that's great. Damn where is the new Sly Q&A. Of all the people I am interested in hearing about Sly would be the last person I would consider, but hey it been fun
-
...that QuinnTheEskimo and streakerfreaker1983 are the same person! Creepy!!!
-
capitalize this talk back didn't I. Oops.
-
Why didn't anybody tell me that?
-
____
-
hmm, I will have to check that out. Must be a problem in the mailroom.
-
No memo! This slacking has got to stop! I just have to say that I find it very funny to be accused of being someone else. No one has ever before said to me, "Hey, you, you're that guy."
-
but hey all is cool. What's funny is that I have been coming to this site for geez how many years. Since the start of this and I have just started only a month ago actually responding on talkbacks. I was just too lazy the past what almost decade I guess
-
Except I've only been coming here for like a year. A decade ago I was, hmm, let's see, like almost 9 years old.
-
work. I'm sure I'm wrong, though.
-
work. I'm sure I'm wrong, though.
-
work. I'm sure I'm wrong, though.
-
work. I'm sure I'm wrong, though.
-
I pushed it once. Anyway, I like the little character bit about Danny in agony and the demon laughing to get out and walk around.
-
Because they're not taking it too seriously. You can tell Cage had a great time and went apeshit over this one. And Cage going apeshit will be a welcome relief after all of the self-important shit out there. Hollywood needs to be reminded that people want to be ENTERTAINED. So fuck yea, burn his head off, ride up buildings, kill demons and show Eva's hooties! Bring it on!
-
I must say. You can really see the quality of the effects looking at that Youtube video. Love the bone and cartilidge between Nic's fingers!
-
I'm not saying it won't, but all I saw were a series of 4 still shots. At this point the Power Rangers Zord formations look more impressive. To me this is like, non-news.
-
that's it...boring.
-
What is with Hollywood constantly casting actors who only have one performance in them? Cage plays the exact same character in every single movie he has ever been in. He has no other personality inside of him. Look at his past movies and compare his performance to REAL actors like Hopkins, Oldman or Depp. Those people can completely disappear within any character they play. Cage can only portray himself in his movies.
-
have a problem with Cage in this role. Mostly because the human aspect of Ghost Rider has been a non-character for me in the comics. It's all about 'ol flame head. And Cage's stock has gone up because I thought National Treasure was pretty swell and he underplayed in that film and was somewhat likeable.
-
Link for the video clip. Short but sweet.
-
Just go to You Tube and enter GHOST RIDER TRANSFORMATION.
-
my earlier positive comments back. Too much CGI. Probably will be slightly better than Daredevil. The best they could come up with was VAMPIRES as villains AGAIN? Seriously the best shot in the trailer is when he's going toe toe toe with the cowboy of the damned.
-
Not if it's good and serves the story. And I think these will do both. The Ghost Rider doesn't have a choice -- he HAS to be CGI. The rest I'll have to wait and see. But I wouldn't want to limit Ghost Rider to "real" fights with "real" stunts -- I want him jumping off building and killing demons and that shit can't be done practical.
-
he has to be. The transformation looks very good. I'm against the whole film looking like a CGI painting, which it appears to in large swathes.
-
While I don't hold out much hope for this, I think it would have been a better choice than the 300. 300 looks like a glossed up piece of turd. It reminds me of ultraviolet, it was nice to look at, but sucked so hard it could suck start a honda.
-
What are the problems with it? Pacing?
-
He kind of dropped off suddenly. One thing I will say for this film is that it has a good cast.
-
And Sam is the fucking man. They couldn't have cast a better Caretaker.
-
indie movie set in a rural town. It's the kind of character (as was being discussed over on The Shadow news) that benefits from mystery, not teen angst and girl trouble.

Can you see how they were done? Look closely. -
What is with all of your Bryan Singer digresso-rants? I get that you're beating "fidelity to the source material" drum, but it gets to the point where you're not even talking about 'Ghost Rider' (or fidelity to the source material) anymore. Plus, if the majority of us liked 'X2' but "meh'd" 'Daredevil,' then you're not exactly helping your case.
-
..way to be up to the minute.
-
wanna be film snobs...and you think you have sophisticated taste but the bottom line is you are just repeating the same shit critics have been telling you to like. christ, just relax for once. and dont even try to tell me i have bad taste. i have shit you havnt even heared of yet. theyre just movies guys, fuckn chill out for a DAY
-
for the fucking FAIL.
-
And any movie about a flaming skull guy that rides a motorcycle and punishes criminals with a chain-whip-thing has any artistic integrity to lose by courting a younger audience in the first place. Oh wait, I'm talking to geeks here. I forgot that re-positioning their childhood heroes as "Badass" (read: violent) suddenly makes them more palatable.
-
it's THE ghost rider?? i thought the character was just 'ghost rider'? and did ghost rider laugh maniacally? or is this just another hack making another hacky movie. yes i do have my mind made up. oh and he said "off of" too which annoys me no end.
-
and solaris wins for worst remake
-
looking forward to see the detail they've added to since then.
-
. . . do they completely cut out the ultra retarded blind-guy-fights-woman-in-playground-in-broad-daylight scene? If so, maybe I'll check it out.
-
It took me a long, long time to get over Nick Cage. I finally realized that it was the utter badass coolness of Raising Arizona that made the movie Cage proof. He is the worst guy for action roles since Oliver Platt.
This looks like the worst idea since dog sweaters. -
...and in no way does it make me interested in seeing a flaming skeleton ride a motorcycle up the side of a building. But that's just me.
-
...and was a little less atrocious.
-
Hmm. Can't say I see it, but I did rather enjoy his almost campy take on The Punisher (another comic movie that didn't "wow," but really isn't as horrible as angry fanboys want to believe). I always thought Matt Damon would've made the perfect DD. He's played the frustrated, do-gooder lawyer. He has the build to be believable as a gymnast and he can clearly pull off a fight scene (see the Bourne films). Plus, he wouldn't have had to dye his hair. ALl that said, I was amazed by how much I enjoyed the Director's Cut of DD despite the fact that I was watching the often unwatchable Ben Affleck. He pulled it off and that impresses me to this day. If only the director had spread out the material over three films, I think the pacing and, ultimately, the story would've played much better for more folks.
-
I must say that I agree with every word you said!
-
Look, see, im funny too.
HA AHA
HAh h aA -
And he will own. That is all.
-
Why post this when the real thing is already on the net? It looks great too. Very intense and very extreme. Why is Harry posting old art?
-
.... please God does this no talent hack say "Put the Bunny Down" in a awful southern accent in this flick?
-
Ghost Rider was created long before Spawn, you twit.
As for Harry: good job posting a clip that's been online for months. Hell, you didn't even post the actual live footage of the transformation (seen here: http://www.ghostridermovieblog.com/archives/2006/10/a_day_in_the_life_of_johnny_bl.php ) which has been online since october. You're really on the ball. -
n/m. No, wait, one message. I think it will be slightly better than the depiction of Ghost Rider in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.
-
can't figure out why people want to hate it so much. the DC of Daredevil showed what a talent Johnson is
-
I didn't want to hate it. The trailer made me do it.
-
I keep hopping on Singer because he is heralded as the next coming where comic adaptations are concerned. The cold, hard fact is that he does major disservice to the source material at best. But you're already aware that's my opinion. You admit such in your own TB. If Raimi didn't fall within a respectable proximity of the source material, then I'd be hopping on him instead.Am I not talking about GR? It comes down to needing a strawman for purpose of contrast and comparison. FF, DD, and (looks to be) GR are all way more faithful to the source than were X1/2. Yet those films are incessantly bashed while X1/2 continue to be praised. This is why I brought it up. I don't have to stomach it just about as much as you have to read my TB posts. As far as TB folks liking X2 and "meh-ing" DD doing nothing to make my case, well, to quote Clooney, I'm thankful for being a little out of touch.
-
Frankensteen!
-
Who thinks this movie will RULE? Who thinks it will HURL?... I'm hoping that it will rule, but I'm thinking it will unfortunatly HURL.... Hope I'm wrong... Ps... Clip has been online since forever... Show us something to make us want to go and see it! ps. I heard thru the HellFire News Bulletin that Micheal Bay... has been damned! Great work people great work!
-
Like Carey Elwes, Jane is an unappreciated and underrated actor who also happens to be a favorite of mine. That said, I didn't really care for his Punisher. Not that he was bad in it. The bit with the Russian was very fun to watch. The interplay with his neighbors was heavy handed, but not an eyestrain. The problem I had with the movie is that they didn't get the character right. There was no discernable switch from Castle to Punisher. He didn't become a force without conscience. In fact, at one point during the film he marched up to reporters and made it clear that he was Frank Castle. The Punisher would never do that. He's the Punisher! You could reason that this was an origin tale and he hadn't found his legs yet, but to do that is to admit to the absense of the clear switch from Castle to Punisher. What is a protagonist with no motivation? For these reasons, Lundgren's Punisher was superior. If you look beyond the unnecessary chick cop and rhyming bum, you can see the spot-on characterization taken directly from the source material. I submit to you the scene where he struggles with the decision to free the children. That was pieces of Castle trying to emerge and I found it quite satisfying as a fanboy. Gosset hollering at him when he was under custody was also a great scene.Back to DD, Affleck and Damon, while capable, are too pretty. DD should be dirty and stubbly, not pretty, yet he should be someone that cleans up nicely. I wanted Jane, but had no trouble seeing Pearce in the role. That said, I was amazed when I saw a bruised, sweaty Affleck spitting out teeth and chomping on vicodin. Too bad he didn't have the 5 o'clock shadow.
-
first FACE/OFF, now this.
-
Castle did have motivation. His family was killed before him. Duh! What I mean to write is how the crucial element that explains why he went from family man straight to calculating murderer was missing. And without that, you don't have the Punisher. He believes that Frank Castle died the same day. There are times when he struggles with a conscience, but those are few and far between. Considering he got retribution at the film's end, there was no clear motivation as to why he would continue as the Punisher. Jane's version, while a decent flick, was actually more of a reboot of Death Wish.
-
Of course I loved the Spawn comicbooks back in the day, who doesn't? I'm referring to that abortion of a movie with John Leguizamo. This Ghost Rider flick should be in that ball-park. Freefinger, this is going to bomb, take my word for it.
-
...except for any guy that took a first-year drama course. And most of them probably have better hair than Luke Fury...errrrr, I mean, Nick Cage.
-
But that script was treacle. They need to stop using the same damn formula.
-
but he should've been portrayed as an older grizzled man who loved his family but was emotionally distant. Not a Hollywood hunk with a cool job who got some payback. Also Travolta was the worst.
-
He's got what my dearly departed Irish grandmother would've called "a pugnacious leprechaun's mug" on him. Not unpleasant to the eye, but he looks like a hard-working, hard-hitting everyman (never moreso than in Good Will Hunting, I'd argue) and then he opens his mouth and disarms you with his wit. That's kind of how I see Daredevil. He's a boxer's kid with a brain who decided to split the difference. Anyway, I should probably revisit Lundgren's Punisher. I was so put off by it on my first viewing that I haven't given it a second thought in years. I agree that Jane's fight with the Russian in the recent version was some very enjoyable viewing. I guess I found a little more to like in it as it struck me as closer to the Ennis interpretationof the character, which is my favorite. I had a similar response to The Hulk, since it obviously owed a lot to Peter David's run on that book, another of my favorites. But I know there is plenty of hate for Ang Lee's Hulk out there.
-
Punisher - it's ridiculously bad. The only thing worth noting is that he's like Arnie's Terminator character, which is how the Punisher is supposed to be, not teen angst + girl (and family) troubles.
-
Daredevil. That is kind of my take on Murdoch as well. But that's not really reflected in the script at all, it's more of throwaway backstory.
-
Don't you think it would've worked better if he had just made a decision to make a psychological thriller instead of a confused action movie?
-
...Lee's Hulk was definitely conflicted in its ambitions. But part of me digs that element as well, seeing as how it mirrors the two faces of the primary character. I'm not saying it was intentionally structured that way with that aim in mind, but it works for me on that level. It could definitely have been a more solid film if it had picked a genre and ran with it, but Hulk's always been part monster tragedy (a'la Frankenstein) and part monster mayhem (like Godzilla). The things I thought most out of place in Lee's movie were the comic book graphics used to frame and transition between scenes. They work in a Creepshow to help put the material in perspective (i.e. pulp comic horror), so I can see why Lee would've thought they'd work for Hulk. But the movie he made wasn't pulp comic horror. It was a psychodrama with horrific undertones and a very dry sense of humor.
-
If only sorkin could be moved to take a chance on the comic reading demographic. Back on topic, I actually think if ever there was a hero Nick Cage could play, it's Ghost Rider. Or, rather, his alter ego. After all, Cage seems to be stuck in the 70s when it comes to his concept of cool (not unlike Johnny Blaze) and all of the actual super heroics will be handled by a CGI character with a digitized version of Cage's voice. Where's the harm?
-
And the Hulk didn't use his talents very well. I think the whole film was problematic, but I can see while people enjoy the effort. Personally, I wanted more of the campy stuff and less of the psychodrama.
-
Considering Nick took his stage name from the 4-color Luke Cage, I'd say there is no irony at all. Planned is as planned does.
-
Before I get into this -- Far be it from me to find Damon pretty. I'm going on what the chicks tell me. Yet you must know that I'll never be able to look at him again without thinking of a pug leprechaun. Happy now? But you're right. I do see shades of Murdock in his board room performance in Dogma. Ultimately, we each wanted different, but didn't think what we got sucked, so we both won.I find it curious you see Peter David in Lee's presentation of the Hulk. I see equal parts Herb Trimpe and Sal Buscema, only sans-speech (which was sorely needed). I write this considering how David's run, the first one that is, mostly consisted of him reimagining Hulk in his grey form. The Trimpe and Buscema years nailed the misunderstood monster angle perfectly, which the film nobly attempted to convey. It had its problems, such as the angrier he gets, the... larger(?) he gets. But it was damn close. Too close. Nolte was a way waicked rip of the Sterns character that would eventually change back into the Leader. Talk about a missed opportunity.I find it funny how some of the biggest complaints about Hulk is that it was a psychodrama, considering how that's what the comics were all about. The old Tales to Astonish covers were so bold as to refer to itself as a soap opera. And hell, Doc Samson IS a psychologist! Then there was the crap about hulk dogs, which was done in the comics. I'll provide a link to a cover if someone asks. Again.I got the same Creepshow vibe from Hulk. Personally, I got a kick out of seeing different angles of the actors' reactions during dialog. It didn't tear me out of the movie at all. There is a knee-jerk reaction that compels folks to oppose seeing something new and different. I think history will eventually shine favorably on it. This doesn't mean I'd like to see it done all the time; only when it suits the material. Here, it did. And it was used in spare, sufficient amounts.Dude, Connelly as Betty Ross? It had me at hello.

Okay, so it wasn't all campy (which wouldn't have worked anyhow), but did you catch the part when the tank turret swings around can catches ole jade jaws in the crotch? The only thing that was missing were the bug-eyes. Asian humor. Gotta love it.The one thing that I had a big problem with (besides the kinda-Creel daddy) was the Talbot character. Ross's most trusted second in command reduced to a program manager of a government contractor. Blecch. Then again, it did channel my natural hatred of Josh Lucas in a satisfying way. Hulk blasted that bastage through a wall, leaving a human shaped hole behind. Back to that whole Asian humor again.

as a psychodrama at all. As I said, I just think the film would've been more successful in its themes had it veered in that direction and stayed on course. The issue is that what was in the film was fairly dry and blandly acted, with another action movie edited in. Nick Nolte's speech at the end is absolutely hilarious, but his character was pointless. Don't get me started on the growing Hulk and the Hulk Dogs which actually make me want to smash something. Josh Lucas's bully character didn't annoy me too much and I don't despise him - his scene getting blown up by his own devices was quite funny. For me, all of the ham was most entertaining. And you have a point about the Asian tone, Roland. Actually this makes the cold romance between Bruce and Betty more understandable, but not any more interesting and I think does a disservice to the characters.

I think they should always try not to go to an established actor for the Superhero genre. We saw way too much of them before that once we see them in these roles... we cringe our teeth... Look at Spidey, at least Tobey was not anchored in the "Actors who can carry a movie" persona before he got the role. He was well known and loved, but nothing where people say "HEY it's the guy from the snowy bushes in winter thing movie!"... It was more of an "hey.. good choice..", and as far as Superman, well I hate the movie with a vengeance, but one thing I did see positive was Routh (well.. if he had a better director, script, not the computer colored fake blue eyes and character development at least...) I think he was able to project the Superman image to some point on screen. If he would've had a story that didn't destroy this icon of over 5 generations the movie would've made him an established actor in action roles. I think Nick Cage will probably not make it past the critics, too much stuff behind him. They should've gone for an unknown and cast him in some part too have that "big actor" in the movie, but not he lead... I'm with Ricky H on this... will bomb...

Yeha.. liked the feel of the movie when the screens got fractionned and we could see different angles of the action that was going on, but again changing the character by making Hulk already part of Bruce, and involving his dad and hulk dogs and all the crap was for me the downer of the movie. Were the effects great for the movie, I give them the thumbs up, but again, like Superman, they changed way too much for us to reconnect with the character. They should've casted a smaller guy than Bana, nerdier, make me see the nerd side of Bruce, he looked like a guy who was dating half the cheerleaders in highschool for crying out loud. I think the Lucas character was crappy, didn't do much exept to be in the way, the Colonel was well casted but yet lacked the military direction, made it feel like just some guy doing his job from 9 to 5, not a man who needs to stop a monster who can destroy half a city in five minutes. I'm happy to hear that Marvel was redoing the whole thing from scratch and coming back to the basics, hopefully the Prison Guy Actor won't be cast to be Banner, and if they stick to what made Hulk work in the comics then they should get our 10$ worth of Giant Screen cinema.. If not.. long live torrents, then we'll bitch about it on this talkback!

Hulk dogs. Not new. Taken from the source material. Behold!http://tinyurl.com/y67rtzWere hulk dogs fair game? Way! Would I have preferred Emil Blonsky? Way! Would I have preferred Nolte as Sterns? Way! Was what we got unfaithful to the source material? Nay! Closer to the source than were Raimi's Spider-Man flicks, that much is certain.Remember that Hulk had to bear the weight of being faithful to both the comic AND the TV show, which itself wasn't very faithful to the comic in the first place. Given that, I think it did a bang up job.
-
I mean, *NERD* nerd? Sorry, never saw it. I always pictured him as a non-confrontational everyman. I hate to draw the comparison, but he's not unlike the garden variety Ben Stiller character. Not the actor himself, just the ad-hoc, sorry sack, 1-out-of-2 characters he's capable of playing. De-age Bill H. Macy and you'd have Bruce. I don't see a weasley Steve Buschemi as Bruce as written in the Ultimates (though it would be fun to watch him try). This is what made the TV David Banner so appealing; that he was an everyman. Push him to the brink and pay the consequences! I have no idea who I'd like to see play him, but I knows a mismatch when I sees it. And the prison break eurotrash Tepes of Blade 3 ain't him.
-
It took a while for the synapse to fire, but here it is -- David Duchovny. The quintessential everyman that was intentionally and wholly accessible to anyone that watched the X-Files. For all the same reasons he was compelling there, he would be equally so for Hulk. If not him, then Noah Wyle -- who, incidentally, would make a great Hal Jordan.
-
Josh Lucas is perfect for Hal Jordan. Anyone who disagrees knows nothing about comics or film. Hal was modeled on Paul Newman, as is Josh Lucas. Noah Wyle? He's a Kyle Rayner, kids.
-
Looks aside, MAYBE Guy Gardner. Maybe. Lucas as an actor is simply way to abrasive. Why else does he land the roles he's awarded? Films that feature him as a softie flop, ala Stealth. But perhaps that's just me.If Wyle is Rayner, then you forget Jordan's roots. He didn't always have everything figured out. But then again, I know absolutely nothing about comics. Or film for that matter.
-
speaking of abrasiveness, I owe Immortal_Fish an apology. I was hyperbolic in my statement, and I regret it. I still believe that Lucas is the heir-apparent to Paul Newman, who I've always wanted to see as Hal Jordan. And I will say that nothing about Noah Wyle makes me think that he could EVER play a character "completely without fear" (one of the two required traits of Hal Jordan).
I don't find Lucas abrasive enough to be Guy Gardner. But, at the same time, I can't think of anyone who I would like as Gardner except maybe Jake Busey (red hair, kind of annoying)
Noah Wyle? Not Hal. George Clooney 10 years ago? Hal.
If you disagree with me, you may know a great deal about comics and film. However, I know a crap-ton about comics and a decent amount about film. Although I'm still an @$$ in talkbacks.
Apologies, Immortal Fish. Thank you for your passive-agressiveness. -
I'm somewhat curious about this film, mainly because I'm hoping that Marvel can finally release another superhero other than Spider-man that isn't total crap.
But everything inside me says this movie is going to come off as Spawn II: Electric Boogaloo.
-
Opinions are as they do, yet I welcome your dismissal of broad hyperbole.Gosh, I guess we simply harbor opposing views of Paul Newman. Nothing wrong with that. However, I'm alarmed at how you interpret his clam, cool, fatherly approach to mirror anything Lucas has tried to do. Again, the only time he has shined was when he played a baddie. When he was on the straight and narrow (Stealth, Poseidon) those films flopped. Even when he was an unlikeable mentor (Glory Road) he still flopped.I grant you that history has room for him similar to Jack Nicholson as a favored antihero, but he hasn't quite reached that yet. And even then, he certainly isn't deserving of a true blue Americana hero as Hal Jordan. Could be worse. We could have Jack Black!
-
Damn, I suck
-
"the man without fear"? I tended to make mine Marvel, so perhaps I'm unaware of that bit o'Lantern mythology. And now that I think of it, Lucas could very well have portrayed a spot-on Murdock, given the chance. Steely eyed lawyer by day, Star Chamberesque vigilante by night. Or, unlikeable lawyer by day, and abrasive foil by night. Kinda digging that the more I think of it. And beside disposition, he has the look/build down already.
-
You didn't dig Blade 1?
-
You're absolutely right about Daredevil, both the "man without fear" and Lucas playing Daredevil. Would've been much better than Affleck.
When Abin Sur (the alien that gave Hal Jordan his ring) crashed on Earth, he told his ring to seek out a replacement that was: a)totally honest and b)completely without fear. 2 people met that description -- Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner. Hal was closer, so he got the gig.
Whether we agree on Lucas or no, at least we both agree that Jack Black would be worse (although he'd certainly make an INTERESTING Gardner, but interesting doesn't mean good)
Meh. I've been more of a Kyle guy than a Hal guy to start, and I personally would want to see Ryan Reynolds as Kyle Rayner (if they aren't going to use him for Wally West, that is). Or, failing that, Jake Gyllenhall would be great (and a nice swipe at Spider-Man/Tobey Maguire, since Kyle Rayner was supposedly modeled after Peter Parker) -
It was a childish comic book so I doubt that this movie (no matter how painful it is when his skin burns off!) will be much better.
-
i'd have to posit the thin red line's jim caviezel over duchovny or bana. from that movie it’s clear he’d pull off the bixby kindness/hippocratic oath thing while portraying a reluctant, please-don't-mess-with-me hero. rage – when morphing into a 7 foot behemoth – is probably less of an acting stretch for him than some might think. just look at this photo, it IS banner to me: http://tinyurl.com/rprsu
and p.s. that is exactly the point about the hulk dogs. not that they weren’t faithful to the comic but why choose them over other, better hulk/gamma-spawned baddies. missed opportunity indeedy.
-
That was some classic Hulk, getting ever-more frustrated and ever-more dangerous while retaining that touch of the absurd that all the un-jolly green giant's fight scenes should have. I do agree that Bana may not have been the best choice for Banner (despite how easy it must've been for him to respond to the name). I always saw a Steve Buscemi type in that role, but I could see a younger Duchovny as well (if it were an origin story). Hadn't considered Caviziel, but he could conceivably pull it off. As for the concern over Cage as Ghost Rider, come on...it's the one super hero character in all of comics with a more unnatural hairline than Cage himself. I'm telling you, he owns this part.
-
Point taken 'bout the dogs being in the comics, I still think that the whole thing (including the comics) was one bad idea... Hell that pooch also look like the one in the kids movie "The Wild" when they're in the city and jump into the sewers... As far as casting.. Caviziel?... Never thought of him.. could be a good choice, he has the range to do it, and can look into the "nerdy" look Banner has yet get a badass face if provoked. I just thought the movie was not a total waste, but things could have been better done, the Nick Nolte becoming the other monster (which lasted a huge 2 minutes in the movie - wow.. big ass battle finale, seen better battles on the Golden Girls) and the dogs that were just there for show.. Why I ask, why? I haven't been reading comics since the first couple of months Image Co. came out, but did marvel incorporate Banner's DNA with a genetically structured metabolism that was holding back a monster? I don't remember that one. And the fact that they wanted to stay true to the comics and the tv show.. Why would you want to be true to the tv show? It was done that way because they didn't have the budget to make a bomb explode at the start of the series... That's what I was hoping for... The big one! Then the military seemed "Blah" to me in the movie, they're in to capture him but seem not to motivated to kick some Green Giant's ass!... Like I said, some things were done where I wasn't too disappointed with the movie, but they could've gone for the original stories were Banner gets blasted by a bomb... (Minus the grey hulk - don't have enough of an audience or fan base for that one I think) but then that's just me...
