AICN gets to announce the new trailer for the awesome slasher flick, BEHIND THE MASK!!!

Published at:  Dec 12, 2006 10:09:36 PM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. One of the best surprises this year for me was seeing BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON at its premiere showing during SXSW. Scott Glosserman's flick is an extremely intelligent, but incredibly fun dissection of the slasher genre.

Anchor Bay has picked up the distribution rights to the flick and is actively putting it in theaters, which makes my day. I would hate to see this flick sent to direct to video jail. It's one of the best horror films I've seen... and I'm incredibly tough on non-serious horror. This one is a horror comedy the likes of which we've never seen and the mood turns on a dime. The levity turns to real scares at a moment's notice.

Anyway, the flick is released limitedly February 14th (the day before my Birthday, dontcha know?) and we've got a trailer for you. The production has asked us to announce the trailer on the official website... And the trailer's actually good. Plus our own Annette Kellerman gets a name-check! Enjoy the trailer and be sure to seek this flick out when it's released. I'd love to see this one go all over the country, not just pop up in a dozen theaters and quickly disappear. It's too good for that fate.

    No Hannibal? I'm confused

    by thebige

So it's Hannibal Rising now, and Behind the Music - I mean, Mask is another slasher film? No Jim Carrey or Jamie Kennedy, right?

Hey Quint, it's "levity," not "brevity"

    by snowdogs

"Brevity" means "the use of brief expressions"
"Levity" means "feeling an inappropriate lack of seriousness"

Zelda Rubinstein is still alive? Now THAT'S scary...

    by tonagan

I could have sworn that she passed away years ago - part of that "Poltergeist" curse and all. Maybe it was just her career that died - ha ha ha... oh wait, I toil in anonymity at a job that is slowly sucking the soul out of me (sob).

Until I read the synopsis. I was watching the trailer thinking, "wtf is going on." The post trailer wrap-up cleared the air. Looks decent now that it makes sense.

Saw it at the AFTER DARK festival in Toronto

    by missionman8

I'll admit that I didn't expect much from this film, but I ended up loving it. It begins tongue in cheek and then morphs into a bloody slash fest. This film is mandatory viewing at any horror film school. Director Scott Glosserman delivers "horror 101" like it never has been delivered before (and yes, I did see the Scream trilogy). Go support this film. It's smarter than most horror films out there.

    "Paradise Lost? Found!"

    by vwantsrevenge

Saw this at the Alamo Downtown on Halloween with the director/writer. Awesome, awesome flick. The lead is hilarious. This is not SCREAM, this is much funnier to me, and much more on the money. It doesn't really skewer the genre like that film. It's played straight, and it's something to see. Deserves all the best. If it works, it could be one of the most talked about flicks of the spring.

    Hannibal Rising the book

    by emeraldboy

got ripped apart in the Gaurdian newspaper and butchered in their Read Digest column.

My brother who was once an avid Harris fan gave up reading Harris after Hannibal, of which he said that harris had the bones of decent plot but through it away. Thomas Harris said that he would never reveal any part of Lecters Past arguing that it would cheapen the character. Even Harris's pusblisher and his agent are mystified by this turn around and you do wonder is Harris going to kill off his golden goose and will book five be the last lecter novel we shall. Harris has to clean up the mess he created in Hannibal.

It seems that thomas Harris is just going through the motions these days and has forgotten how to write a decent book.
