A New NINJA TURTLES Movie Trailer Is Online In Mega Cruddy Stamp-O-Vision!!

Published at:  Dec 07, 2006 10:16:59 PM CST

Merrick here...

MTV has posted a new trailer of the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES CGI film -- due next year. It's, like, really small and shit. A most unsatisfactory viewing experience.

This said, you can get a fair sense of the look/style/tone of the film from this material -- although I can't wait to see it larger & clearer.

HERE is the film's teaser trailer...in case you missed it the first time around, or want to refresh your memory. MTV: please note the multiple size options & Glorious QuickTime here.

SEE IT HERE!!!

From the trailer the movie looks like it could have been done in live action with the Jim Henson puppets like the first three movies. (With some CG for the little creatures duh) Why didn't they do that???? (shakes fist) And did they get Cory Feldman back or not?

I agree - for those of us who are taken back to our childhood, this looks like fun. I used to draw ninja turtle comics in colored pencil, and I still remember that ill-fated day when I lost Donatello in the river. This looks like the movies with the added bonus of less-cumbersome man-suits. Killer.

Just when I thought an excellent tmnt movie was on the horizon they shove this crap in our faces. It looks completely goofball... no seriousness in tone at all. I know they're freakin ninja turtles but cant we atleast get a vision of the ninja turtles as more than comical doofuses. Plus they all sound very homosexual. There's no way the mainstream would tolerate dark TMNT.

    by gibsonusa returns

TMNT in terms of TV/movies has ALWAYS been for kids and will always be for kids. The fact that the cartoon launched in 1987 does not change that fact. Believe it or not the franchise, and its new toys, has a whole population of new young viewers. Gotta cater to them too. You can say original TMNT fans are grown up and would want a darker, more adult look/story....but COME ON!! What average 25 year old guy (everyday, NON-geek) is gonna walk up to the theater opening day and pay $10 for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated movie?? YEAH RIGHT!! Very few. If you make this TMNT adult oriented, then it becomes a niche product.

Sorry to crap on your childhoood, but you're wrong. Dead wrong. TMNT was originally a comic/graphic novel. The Turtles swore, drank beer and killed people. You read that right. They actually KILLED people. Not exactly kiddie fare.

But a lucrative cartoon deal made it necessary to tone them down and aim for the kid market. Search your local comic book shops or eBay to find an early comic. The original Turtles were badasses, not the pussified cartoonish buffoons you remember.

As violent and grim as the old B&W TMNT comics were, they were still a thinly veiled parody of Daredevil (Hand/Foot Clan, Stick/Splinter, exact same origin as DD) and had plenty of cheezy one liners, and yeah, Michalangelo was always the buffoon of the group. As cool as an R rated TMNT animated movie could be, the cheezy cartoon from the early nineties had a much larger fan/customer base and was the main impetus behind the movies getting made in the first place. The TMNT cartoon from the last couple of years on FOX seems to be a decent synthesis of the darker comic and campy old cartoon, largely drawing its story arcs directly from the old comic. This movie seems to be in the same vein, and thankfully, they don't expect us to shell (huh-huh) out ten bucks to watch the same fucking origin/shredder falling into a dumpster story we've seen before. Let's all ive it a chance, shall we?

is that, if you were a fan of the cartoon from the early '90s as a kid (as i was), then what they are doing with this new movie should be fine. you weren't originally drawn in by the beer drinking, cursing and killing that's evident in the graphic novel--you were drawn by the blend of action and saturday morning campiness. and besides, since when did having an upbeat tone become a bad thing? seems to work well for pixar.

And his wording showed that he obviously knew this. We're all REALLY impressed by your knowlege of the Turtle's history (I'd say most people on this site are in the 10% that are fully aware of their roots). No we aren't. by misnomer

with this trailer....okay so it is a little more cartoonish than the teaser implied, but then again, maybe thats because this trailer is aimed at a broader young audience. We still dont know the quota between kid humour and action. Some bits looked cool, the sewers, leo on the plane...donatello talking about something or other on a crane. The voices were good too. I'm sure there will be decent action scenes "and a sense of peril" as director kevin munroe stated. It is a PG-13 for a reason after all.Not so sure about the level of expression in the characters, but the backgrounds were more epic than I was expecting. Its a bit final fantasy-esque in places which is a bit crap...but overall I think its got a kind of pixar feel to it...aimed at the kids but with enough for older fans. who knows? this trailer hasnt put me off, or got me mega excited, but is definately got me curious....

A bit darker than it looks. If you ignore that cheesy-ass voice-over guy, it kind of changes the tone. Still not THAT dark, but maybe darker than it seems at first. Also, the fact that they're using monsters instead of foot soldiers tells me that we may see a whole bunch of hacking up of monsters. I mean, kids love it when monsters are dispatched, and their "fragile psyches" won't be damaged by seeing people killed. It's OK to kill monsters. See what I mean?

    HELL'S NO!

From what I've seen thus far this movie has done a pretty damn good job of keeping the characters true to their nature. In the end, that's really all I ask for when it comes to adaptations.

If I want to see the comic books, I'll go read the comic books.

Plus, folks need to bear in mind that this trailer was made to show before KIDS movies. SO yeah they're going to pull out the "belching" and the "Your Mom" joke.

I started watching gruesome horror movies when I was around 10, at the same age i was into ninja turtles and went to see the first movie in theatres and realized what the only thing it needed to be a great movie....WAS SOME FUCKING BLOOD! I WANT MOTHER FUCKING BLOOD.. and i better see some badass ninja turtles deliver on that promise.

    Ninja Turtles... CHEESY???????

    by imjustsaying

You want something badass, go watch some Batman. You want something to transition your kids from cute to badass, show them the Turtles. This is a childhood flashback, and that's all it should be. And don't tell me the original turtles weren't cheesy, because they WERE. I grew up on this crazy stuff, and you can bet your ass mine will be in theatres when this opens. That said, I haven't seen the new trailer, as I'm at work right now.

    Frijole, I stand corrected.

    by v3d

Yes, Frijole, your are correct that he was referring to the films and tv shows. I was pointing out to those whose only reference is the film and tv versions that the comic book origins were anything but child friendly. There are younger readers here that are not always aware of a tv or films literary origins. I'm still suprised at the number of "Starship Troopers" movie fans that have now idea who Robert Heinlein is.

    by ckane123

Eastman and Laird were/are great artists who created a fantastic set of characters with an original premise. They then merchandized the living shit out of it. Good for them, big kudos. I would have done the exact same thing. I understand they spend most of thier time swimming in thier money a la Scrooge McDuck. Oh, Eastman takes occassional breaks to make sweet love to Julie Strain. Sucks to be him. And anyonw who thinks we will see/wants to see blood, come on. You will see more blood if you rent and watch G.I.Joe the movie.

and they rarely killed *in-panel* in the original books. your memories are playing tricks on you- seriously go back. read em' the original "hardcore" graphic novels arent as edgy as you remember them being. it's like thinking "wow gremlins was a cool movie" and then you go back and think "what the fuck is this turd?! it's like just over an hour long..."

that said, the original graphic novels (which btw are still being published and new stories written) have some great character moments...the stories are really well written *or were I dont follow them*

    Absolutely Abysmal Advertising

    by dersu

The “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” TV shows and movies have all ranged from terrible to vomit-inducing. When I actually read the original Mirage comic books, I was surprised to find that they were actually good. They weren’t “Watchmen,” but they were enjoyable and I was hoping that this movie would finally correct the mistakes of previous screen adaptations. Instead, this trailer has made me lose almost all hope for this movie. It kind of looks like a montage of everything wrong with modern Hollywood movies, but then again, a lot of trailers look like that. I was ready to gut myself during the gratuitous belching joke (that might’ve almost been funny if I were six years old and retarded) or the part where one of them said, “Duuuude!” The animation looks pretty pathetic too, like something from Nickelodeon. And why do the fucking turtles always have to speak like that? Mickey Mouse sounds more like an actual teenager than these characters. Would it have killed the filmmakers to pay voice actors to sound like people? Then again, I realize that a lot of trailers are cut this way. The people who make them seem to want to pander to the very lowest of lowest common denominators. I’ve often seen good movies with terrible trailers and TV spots, so I hope that’s the case here. That said, my interest has now dropped a great deal, but I guess the filmmakers couldn’t care less. This kind of marketing must work, or I wouldn’t be continually seeing it over and over and over.

I saw glimpses of what could've been a really cool trailer in there. Some clunky parts, but I still have high hopes for the movie...and the last joke is pretty great, vintage Turtles. I forget...I know Shredder's not the main villain, but is he in it? Oh well, I suppose all will be answered soon...let's get a high-def redone trailer on Apple, how 'bout it? Damnit, I can maybe put up with the humor, but after something the greatness of FF7: Advent Children, my expectations for CG comic book/cartoon movies is way WAY up, and I don't expect the same physics defying craziness, but something... like that cool teaser trailer we saw earlier... something edgy, and with some inventive battles and a few touches of typical TMNT humor without theexaggerated cartoon faces and shit... heck for the youtube vid, the animation doesn't look good either... This movie is now a 'looking forward to rental...'

You're all talking about violence and swearing. Guess what, all that money the creators have, it wasn't built on the original comics. How fucking stupid would it be for kids not to be allowed to see this movie when there's a Saturday morning TV show already built on this material? And how much money do you think an R rated movie about TALKING NINJA TURTLES would make? Some of you need to stop trying to come up with a reason why you can see this without looking like a big geek.

do all you guys on here who are complaining about the comic tone of the film even remember what fun is? when u were younger i'm sure you disliked robotic foot soldiers and laser and the fact the the turtles never cut anyone as much as i did but you loved that shit anyways! jesus lighten up! all i hear on this site from the talkbackers is "why cant it be darker!" well you got a darker superman and guess what happened? YOU HATED IT! MAKE UP YOUR FUCKING MINDS! this trailer reminds me of watchn the cartoons at 8 am every saturday morning surounded by my army of TMNT toys and you know what? thats fine because those are fond memories. i love the B&W comics...shit i even have every issue of the ill-fated Image relaunch series (whiched owned btw) but all the blood and guts from the comics and my love for hardcore perverse violence wont stop me from being in the theatre opening day, reflecting on happy memories. ill have my kids with me there (who all love TMNT too) and i garantee you theyll have a blast, and maybe get some good memories too.

    by sugar89

usually these trailers have unfinished audio, including voices, so don't pass judgment too soon! Keep the faith!

...and isn't it obvious by the last 20 years of kids films that there are all made by executive's decisions, specifically to gain the largest audience po$$ible? If you haven't noticed the studios desire to alienate the fans, re-write intelligent dialogue for tripe, and over explainin every plot point, then well, you need to wake up and smell the napalm.

We all realize that the ninja turtles are for kids but for fuck sakes everyone and anyone that was a fan of the ninja turtles is all grown up now and we deserve fucking better. We deserve a hardcore ninja turtles movie. It's not for fucking kids anymore. KIDS DONT WANT NINJA TURTLES... they play yu-gi-oh and pokemon and shit like that. You tell a kid today to name the ninja turtles and he'll tell you to fuck off. So this is a complete slap in the face to the ninja turtle fans that are all grown up now.

for a start im a 12 year old kid...

and i fucking want to watch this movie, like my cousins, my friends, and by brother!

(even my 32 year old nextdoor neighbour!)

and no one likes pokemon or yu gi oh
