Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
I think this guy’s response pretty much sums it up.
Call me Fuzz...
HOLY SHIT! FINAL 300 TRAILER!!

+ Expand All
-
Can't wait to see this film!
-
My neck hurts...
-
it's also in GLORIOUS QUICKTIME!!
-
I actually have avoided almost everything to do with this movie because I"m pretty ignorant of the source material, but wow, I'll be there
-
This looks like such a beautiful movie and I'm stoked about how Zack Snyder stuck to Miller's vision. This movie will definitely set the bar for comic book movies once its released and hopefully put to shame anything that has come before it.
-
I actually liked phantom of the opera, but this looks totally kick ass
-
I just milked myself... Beautiful Beautiful!!!! I wonder if this should be a summer movie?? March 9th? Booo
-
The place is SPARTA right? I'm not sure - perhaps he could say it a little louder......
Oh - and I'll be there opening night for the first time since.....can't remember when.......prob ROTK.... -
just wondering if its historically correct, thats all...
-
Just sayin - that initial stripped-down teaser was AWESOME. This trailer kinda dragged. Still can't f-ing wait to see it though.
Oh - and for you Firefox users out there - I have had no end of trouble viewing QT vids on Firefox the past few weeks - not sure why. Worked fine for me on icky IE7 - go figure.
Boogie -
Get ready to praise Zach Snyder.
-
look at the book - almost every piece of dialogue is in bold and/or with exclamation points. in comicese that means YELL! i give snyder ups for truly sticking to the source (and i don't mean the actual story, because we've already hashed that to bits).
-
you're a puss. Spartans yelled all the time. Ever spent a weekend around some Marines? They never stop fucking shouting. That looks totally kickass. Disagree? Go see a kid's movie.
-
last time i went to the theater to watch a movie was king kong...looks like we got another worth going for...2007 the year of the spartan!
alpha dog out! -
I was ready to diss this one because of all the greenscreen and CG, but damned if that isn't one cool looking movie. One complaint: what's the deal with the fat mutant dude with the swords for arms. A tad out of place maybe?
-
Like sex for the eyes.
-
i didn't see lena headey's tatas in that trailer and you KNOW they're comin'!
-
.."This will be one wild night."
WTF did that have to be in there for??? -
I think it's great that Miller adapted projects can find directors that believe in the sanctity of the original source material. WHY OH WHY can't other graphic novels get the same treatment? Is it a sin to want a GOOD Alan Moore adapted film? Why can't Mike Mignola admit he hated the fact that the studio and Del Toro fucked Hellboy from the get go? And so on and so on and so on...how many other film adapted graphic novels/comics etc. have been complete disapointments because directors (and others) felt the need to dismantle and change already great ideas? I would like to hear your thoughts fellow talkbackers.
-
This looks badass!!!! AHHHHHH!!!! SPARDA!!!! No, wait, that's Devil May Cry... Anyway, here's another cut of that awesome trailer: http://tinyurl.com/vgcvu
-
So, like are all those Spartans gonna die? ;-)
-
Everybody knows that as with "grey-eyed Athena" and the "wine-dark sea," one must always say "Glorious Quicktime"!
-
can't these guys have just put on a shirt? Or just even a pair of pants? Geez.
-
They were intelligent and talked.
-
You guys are so slow these days. WTF? SHH had this up two fucking hours ago.
-
Whatever it was it looked cool. Those pecs are insane. Damnit I have to work out now.

an excellent turn of phrase. i've been waiting for some real hardcore historical imagery to make it to the screen...and the 'wall of corpses' is my favorite. the ottoman emperors used to build walls around their fortresses of severed heads. that's a lot of heads!

Awesome. Too cool. I'm so there.
-
I can't wait to see what Snyder does with Watchmen now. Better yet, I can't wait till march.
-
I'm with you on Hellboy, I thought it was a huge let down. It felt more like and X-Men movie than a Hellboy movie. I think the only way to do a true Hellboy movie is with stop motion.
-
Prove it! Because I was totally serious.
-
you must be either an old woman or french canadian not to have gotten at least the littlest frisson from that trailer.
-
i must amend, you ARE conceivably right (according to some historical reports, natch) about the gayness!
-
Mirror anyone?
-
it crashed my browser when I tried to exit out of the player. -_-Why don't they just let apple.com host the damn thing? My thoughts on the clip? As far as trailers goes, this flick has beat the crap outta Spidey and the other '07 "blockbusters" hands down.Who knows if it will actually be any good, but I'm getting (and I know this is cliched) a Matrix vibe from this film. And that's a good thing.
-
ridiculous.
-
Everybody knows real Spartans were intelligent and talked.
-
There has to be another phrase other than "Glorious Quicktime" Delicious Quicktime? Infamous Quicktime? Oooze Inducing Quicktime?
-
I bitch about everything! And muscular men in loin cloths make me feel inferior! christ give it a rest people.
-
I bitch about everything! And muscular men in loin cloths make me feel inferior! christ give it a rest people.
-
my bad.
-
Whose bright idea was it to host movies on there of all places? They've always sucked, and tonight they have sucked like no other sucking before. Every last one of these links are screwing up.
-
THIS SHIT IS AWESOME!!! SPARTAAAAAA!!!!!!!
-
Snyder is an up and coming director to be sure but he'll still fuck it up bigtime, maybe even ruin his career doing so.
-
enter, freedom fighter.
-
stupid links.
-
I think he could pull it off as long as he doesn't go Boll (Uwe) on the film.
-
and what's with the automatic spaces in the links?
-
Thank you for this bounty, we are about to receive. Amen.
-
The links from their own page are giving me "URL not found"

usually wears armor. They would not have lasted long against the Persians without bronze breastplates. The Persians only had wicker armor and shields.
-

-
THAT IS A MOTHERFUCKING ACTION EPIC!!! Yes! First Clive Owen, then Daniel Craig and now Gerard Butler! My 3 favorite actors are kicking ass!
-
Yeah, I'm there.
-
I love the look of this film... unlike anything we've seen before but people remember that story is everything. Those that glorify sin city as a killer film are forgetting that the story pretty much sucked balls. If this is just a highly artisitic and retro balls to the walls visually graphic alexander, or troy then count me out.
-
IS IT OKAY TO SAY THIS IS ALREADY MY FAVOURITE MOVIE, FUCKING EVER? FUCKING HOLY FUCK TITS BATMAN!
-
if anyone's ever seen him do an interview you know what I'm talking about. He's an uber dick.
-
Holy shit. Best movie of 2007. There, I called it. There's no point in any other studio releasing a movie next year.
-
I won't be disappointed. I wanna have faith in this movie after seeing this fraking amazing trailer, but we all know that sometimes movies are too good to be true. I'm not going to expect too much until I see some reviews or until I see the movie myself. This trailer is just too damn cool...
-
interesting. but fake a lot of emptiness in the backdrops makes it look like a theatre.
-
They keep giving Paul 'Aggis oscars, so what's the problem? If I could swap 300's release date in March for 24's premiere date in January, Jack Bauer would be in a Chinese prison for 2 more months.
-
Damn you Michael Bay
-
Damn you Michael Bay
-
Damn i have to use IE
-
There is a funny comic strip about 300 on Plotpulse.com. They are going to interview Geoff Johns in a few weeks! Can't wait!!!
-
This has to be, hands down, the best movie obviously shot and acted in front of a green screen we've seen in a LONG time. It harkens back to the glory days of "Attack of the Clones" and "Sin City". I get chills when I see the actors obviously acting in front a green screen with obviously CGI created characters in the background. I almost crap my pants when I see them using elephants and rhinos in the battle...even though there's no historical basis that the Persians used either in the battle of Thermopylae. But it goes to show the dedication the producers have in bringing to the audience the BEST obviously computer generated creatures made in the last 6 months! I can't WAIT to download this as a shaky-cam telesynced movie and watch it in glorious 320x240 resolution in the corner of my computer screen...as it was meant to be!
-
not to destroy the fanboy love here, but was that really anything great?!?! It looked good, in places, but the acting was horrendous.....its not necessarily the screming, but the pantomine acting behind it. I will probably check it out, but my expectations are very low.....and anyone looking for historical accuracy in a movie which has a spartan with a strong scottish accent is obviously deluded, the spartans were not gay...they loved each other like brothers.
-
OFF.
-
My balls have been rocked off, still looking for the left one ;-)
-
It's not going for realistic. It's got style and looks fantastic!
-
everything that is wrong with the movies today. Terrible script, bad acting, over-reliance on fake-looking digital effects. Puts all the action in the trailer to get people into the theatre then nothing else to give once you're in there. Pass. Hollywood is doomed. I predict $30 million tops. You heard it here first.
-
Nicely done, although a little bit too much Mikey Bay style slo-mo, but the effect in the final movie could be awesome.
-
ly gay. That's not a slight; at last, something to bring together gay men and headbangers in ecstasy, a la a Judas Priest concert.
-
mola
-
michael bay rules!! haha
-
...sure does scream a lot. The funny thing is that when he screams suddenly everybody else starts screaming. And that line at the end, "this is going to be a wild night". Yeah, I'm sure the Spartans spoke like that. This flick will be good for the youngsters because it has little story substance and lots of cool and nifty "Matrix"-like effects. But if I wanted to see The Matrix, I'd watch The Matrix. And who is that bearded yelling man anyway? Frankly, I think it would be more interesting with Alfred Molina in that role.
-
The extra from Pirates of the Caribbean, who has wandered into the trailer with his crab claws...whats all that about? Elephants? maybe, Rhinos? hmmm..hunchbacks..at a stretch, but fat mutants? err....No.
-
That looks perfect! It really brings the spirit of the book across, delighted to hear they've kept the 'Just Like You Imagined' Nine Inch Nails tune as well! can. not. wait!
-
I can't fucking wait.
-
"Moriarty here with some rumblings from the lab?" Huh?
-
God, I hope he makes a romantic comedy next...
-
Elephants and rhinos and ancient hand grenades... This film is so filled with coolness I want to break into Warner Bros offices just to see 5 more minutes of it. To those who say slow mo looks like matrix effects, check your fucking eyes. This has it´s own style and it´s NOT style over substance. It´s a story about 300 desperate men against the hordes of Asia against them. It´s a last stand story. All who remember "the Alamo" would agree that a story like that doesn´t need anything else than the actual battle preceded by an introduction on what lead the heroes to that battle.
-
why is one of the puppets from the puppetmaster in it? spike i believe his name is, any ideas?
-
John woo created the slow mo action scene. The matrix created "Bullet-time" action-scene. So obiviously different.
-
Buffed out naked men with glistening white teeth! Orcs! Giant Rhinos and elephant monsters! Golem! The Blob with Terminator 2 sword hands! Dr. Doom! OMFG! It's...! It's...! What is it exactly? Oh yeah -- a historical epic!

-
sorry for double post.
-
All kinds of awesome....
-
QT is awesome, but Yahoo! blows!
The trailer was pure greatness, except for the last line. But, it doesn't matter, I've seen enough to be there opening day.
-
...to the town of shit-your-pants. Machete-handed mutants? Hell, even the Virgin Mary will utter the phrase "fuck me" over this...
-
It's got Quake 2 AND Sloth in it... Gonna kick some ACE!
-
This is either going to be the most embarrassing movie ever, or one of the most ass-kicking, visceral adreno-flicks of all time. But do lose that horrendous "wild night" line. Please. I have no problem with certain historical liberties and the stylish choices made, but keep that anachronistic linguistic shit out. Surely you can't be that desperate to get the teen grasstards into the seats.
-
A Henry V with SHOUTING GODS OF WAR!
Seriously, this fucking ROCKS!
As a Spartan*, I too SHOUT AS MUCH AS I CAN!
*my college dorm -
Pure, over the top escapism!!!
Who cares if its not accurate or looks a little wierd??
Its a damn comic book... sheesh!
I am gonna take my ass to the cinema and get it rocked off when this comes out. -
Gorgeous-looking movie, but I'm totally not excited. The fact that I already know the outcome might have something to do with it, I don't know.
-
just wow, i think i have to have a movement.
-
Needs to get banned... That movie is the worst piece of shit I ever saw... (If you're in it, then I can't wonder why you want to post your dumbass head on the net with that kind of dumb jerkwad idea of a wanna be movie...)
-
Totally agree with you, it's either crash or burn for this movie! I really hope it burns it way up that we want to see more than once! Right now, the trailer is really getting me hyped up!!! DAMN YOU MICHEAL BAY!
-
that just looks better and better.
-
I'll tell you what, I like historical epics as much as the next man... as a matter of fact, the Battle of Thermopylae has always kind of interested me... But I don't know what the hell this "300" is supposed to be about. It looks like absolute shit (fake visual effects, legions of Persians riding elephants and rhinos [LOTR anyone?], and MONSTERS [what the fuck is are MONSTERS doing at the Battle of Thermopylae?!]. History has been bastardized. Shame on you Warner Brothers... Shame on you Zack Snyder (then again, I don't know why anyone has faith in his sketchy directing anyway... his one big film was NOWHERE NEAR as good as George Romero's classic).
-
dear god bring it on
-
that shit was crescent fresh!
-
This is a movie based on the comic book by George Miller, not the historical battle of Thermopylae.
-
Eye candy for fanboys who haven't found their way out of the closet.
-
At least the greatest trailer of the year. By Far. I don't care what anyone says. I'll go up against millions to prove it's right!
-
...on my pants...gotta go clean up.
-
Gotta love the Greeks and their over exaggeration
-
Are you shitting me? I really do like how this looks...but if this...and basically anything else Frank Miller does...is not syle over substance then I'm not even sure what the phrase means.
-
first, n e movie with gerrard butler in it sucks second, tony scott was supposed to direct it and got fired for wanting to have the three hundred troops die at the begginning and tell the whole story in flashback mode third they should have got colin ferrel to play the bearded guy because he was awsome as fuck in ALEXANDER
-
...FIRST, I'm going to create a straw man in order to turn everybody who likes the movie against anybody who doesn't. SECOND, I'm gonna make sure I write like I'm on a Blackberry. THIRD, I'm gonna call Colin Farrell awesome. How subtle!
-
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME, OF COURSE ITS ABOUT THERMOPOLYE YOU TARD' WTF ELSE WOULD IT BE ABOUT?????????????????????????????????????????????????
-
Like many people here I dug the trailer until Butler spoke its last line, but I'm willing to overlook the modern dialogue set in a proto-historical time. Because goddamn did some of the fighting look badass intense. The fact this film is rated R -- not PG-13! -- means there will be blood and carnage and... oh yeah... lots of guys yelling and screaming across the battlefield.
I like the fact it adds giants and monsters to the mix. Aside from looking cool onscreen and probably wielding some big, heavy weapons, it adds a creative fantasy element to the story. Yes, it's not historically accurate, and yes, it's comic book-ish. But I love the look of it, the over-the-top-ness of it. Stylistic violence done well is something that I love and crave. I live for it, in fact. I'm excited for this film.
This is Spartaa! -
300 is gonna blow so hard you heard it hear first
-
You wrote, "300 is gonna blow so hard you heard it hear first." I have no problem with you expressing a contrary opinion. I encourage it, actually, since I'm trying to temper my own reaction to the hype.
I get nervous when everyone feels only love for a film.
And, if I might be so bold, what is "poonnee theatre"? Puntang theater perhaps? Just wondering. -
...I'll think of this trailer. This kick fucking ass. I love the corprus infected man creatures featured in the trailer. Can't wait for this one; might even pick up the graphic novel.
-
.........in the trailer, which everyone is bitching about ("....one wild night"): how many times in movies, or more specifically trailers, have you seen the studio using lines, or even entire scenes, for the trailer, that eventually don't make it into the final cut in the movie? I'm willing to bet you that by the time this hits theatresin March, they will have edited in another take of that scene with a different line (like "This will be a night for the ages", or something like that) or just left it out, on the cutting rooom floor, altogether. I'm guessing they decided to use it for the trailer primarily for marketing purposes and to reach a younger demographic audience (smells like a silly studio exec's or a suit's dumbass idea). I highly doubt that Miller (who had more consulting input andmore say in general, on this movie than he did on Sin City where he was even a c-director, nor Snyder for that matter, will leave that line in. Calm your silly little selves down. Oh, and for those clueless few still left out there, the movie is based directly (as in heavily inspired by) on the graphic novel of the same name by Frank Miller;; itself, which is, in turn, a loosely based, and highly stylized and sensationalised re-depiction of the historically factual battle of Thermopyle. An account that has been re-told numerous times by various less-accurate scribes through the ages such as Pressfield's Gate's of Fire, most recently. So, if you're looking for historical accuracy here, then you're about 4-5 layers way off the mark.
-
I FEEL LIKE YELLING REPEATEDLY! Oh, and posting this.
-
.....no question about it. And to add to your list Ribbons, FOURTH: I'm going to post so contrarianly and overtly negatively and repeatedly as to draw as much reaction and as many responses as possible attempting to dispute my claims.
-
i want to see this movie more than anything
-
In Sparta! Featuring a cameo from Adam Sandler!
-
DES MOINES!...AND G-BUT BITES ASS!
-
AAARRRGGGHHH! (drop kicking my boss into the break room pit)
-
The last Line "We're In For One Wild Night" is straight out of the book ok? Just in case you were wondering...
-
how you figure if you post racist, sexist and homophobic conservative diatribes no one will notice your microscopic penis, anchorite?
-
Hey jackass, I think they probably didn't speak english in those days either....I swear, the nitpickers on this site are amazing....
-
How is "this will be a night for the ages," actually LESS sucky than "we're in for a wild night"?
-
I've been yelling THIS IS SPARTAAAAAA!!!!!! at my boss
by YackBacker. LOL. -
with anchorite. Took me right out of the world.
-
with this guy directing it.
-
and just going against the grain to act cool and rebel. You know its cool, but agreeing with everyone would be boring.
-
'speech impediment,' i'm still giggling about that.
-
Gee, thanks for telling me what I think. Look pal, I've got no reason to want to not like this movie. I love plenty of popular shit. I gave it a chance, and while I recognize sort of dispassionately that the pictures are pretty, I'm just not excited. Not holding it against you, and judging by the volume of people who liked the trailer on the TalkBack, what I think shouldn't really matter to you anyway.
-
...away with you!
-
It looks like over-stylised shit. Are the masses so easily enamored with "pretty" pictures? (silly question)
-
....so my country can be free"
Seriously, as much as I like Frank Miller, white people kicking minorities ass is a bit tiresome. After the race of men anihilated the EasterLinks in LORT, I don't think I'm down for more Anglos kicking the darkies around. No wonder that whole region is pissy at the infidels. HarHar -
Persians are descendants of one of the Aryan tribes and love the West! (Ignore Iran's government, their full of idiots). Its the Arabs who hate the whities.
Basically, Hollywood screwed up by portraying the Persians as being Arab looking. For some reason Hollywood has this fixation that Persians = Arabs, I guess it boils down to a lack of education on thier part.
Read some history books and you'll find that the Persians were nicknamed the "white race" by their Arab neighbors (probably why they hate Persians so much). -
appear the way it actually would in real life? With, like... the actual colors the way our eyes see them? I'd rather watch Lawrence taking Aquaba for the 900th time since I was 16 than any of this stylized, lifeless, shit. This digital intermediate shit is ruining the color of films. What's the point of shooting on FILM if the thing is going to look like it was shot on video by the time you print it back to film anyway? I've shot on 35mm and there's not much of a trick to making it look fantastic with good framing. You just point it at something and the details and color it gets are astounding with very little extra light. Why would directors digitally fuck around with the palette and skew everything towards one color? Just shoot in black and white then, at least it looks interesting. If you watch some of the LOTR stuff of the color correction, I couldn't believe how much better it looked until they made everything all blue, or all gold, or all green or wahtever color they picked out of a hat that day at the DI lab. It's fine to match tones or contrast from scene to scene, but the way they completely change the colors is unnatural and makes the CGI even more unrealistic.
-
Holy fuck!
-
Let's shoot an epic scale movie entirely against green screen... yeah, that's a great fucking idea. Looks like a perfume commercial.
-
so the book is a ridiculous load of shit too?
-
i aint lying..nor am i trying to go against the grain...the film looks fucking ridiculous with the hammiest acting ever seen. awful looking film. truly awful
-
Greeks kicking ass
-
Admit it or i'll kick you down a hole. This is SPARTA!!!
-
Ai-yee!!!
-
This time with a positive outlook. Stop purposely searching for faults because you're angery and bitter at Hollywood.
-
the film just looks ridiculous to me..why do people find that so hard to understand. I can totally see why people are excited and I normally love this type of shit - I am looking at my dvds right now and amongst my favorites are some the finest of hollywoods rubbish but this trailer makes me laugh. I can't help what how my brain reacts to it. First of all it is impressed by the visuals as yes they look great..then I start to think maybe not so great...i don't think that style appeals to me..then by the hundredth time someone yells or speaks in those ridiculous hammy voices I start to laugh and by the end of it i have decided that I probably won't waste my time or money seeing it as it doesn't appeal to me.I didn't realise we all had to agree about everything on these boards. the film TO ME looks fucking silly. there. sorry if that upsets you but i just think it looks that way.
-
As the guy being kicked down the well is member of "the thousand nations of the Persian Empire" as opposed to the single city-state of Sparta, how exactly does that make him a "minority"? And not all caucasians are "Anglos". Seriously, dude, if anyone is guilty of prejudice, it's you with your insistance at projecting your own particularly narrow amero-centric worldview on not only the United States but the rest of the world at large. Thanks for playing though.
-
Very cool indeed.
-
I bet he only appears in the last frame of the movie!!!
-
A little late to te party, but this looks outstanding. Can't wait.
-
300 warriors fighting for their king and nation, not caring for their lives will always be deep shit to read about or watch on film. That´s why stories about that last stand battle which created legends will always be told. A battle to the death seems uncomplicated at first glance, as does the king who commands his loyal troops, but it´s because that king makes it look easy and uncomplicated. He is the best warrior during that age. Take Alexander at Gaugamela, or Napoleon at Austerlitz, they made each battle seem like a piece of cake, but it´s because they were a lot more skilled in warfare than their enemies. Leonidas lost against the Persians, but he gave them hell first. He made the Persians hate their own king, whom they had thought to be a god on earth, cause he brought them to a place where they had to face those fucking Spartans who refused to die. So Leonidas made Xerxes a mortal in the eyes of his subjects. If that isn´t complicated than I don´t know what is. Leonidas killed a god, he killed the image of a god. Miller has very smartly made Xerxes impossibly tall just to emphasize the image of him being divine to his people. When Leonidas destroyed that image he became a legend. For me such a story has lots of substance, if you know what I mean.
-
but they missed the uber-line.. "Then we will fight in the shade".. I'm not normally a rabid fanboy, but I want to download that trailer because it's possibly the best traile rever invented by man, (except possibly the TPM trailer where Maul ignites the second blade)... I know it's not historically accurate, I know it's not going to make me a better person, but that is, hands down, the most exciting movie coming out next year.. and if anyone has a download link to a fullscreen I will have your children (for the night).. PLUS YELLING IS COOL
-
What is it with everyone saying it's not historically accurate as though that makes it a worse movie.. Two points - 1. Did anyone see King Arthur? Because whatever you say about historical accuracy, no-one goes to movies because of it - they go to see entertainment and if you think otherwise you're a fucking idiot (before you all bitch, I also understand that yo can have both, but in a vote, I'm taking kicking ass over how many people there were at the battle which seems to be somewhat of a bugbear) 2. This will make people look it up. The faux-historians amongst you who bitch about the bastardization of history need to realise that more people will look up Thermopylae after this movie than probably have in history before it, so if you really want history to be known, you need to be giving this film some love. Oh, and finally, shouting is cool. Arrows are loud you know. Oh, and actually finally, blackwood made the most concisely amazing point in this entire talkback. Blackwood, you are legend!
-
Yup they just sold this to me. Anytime NIN has been used in either a preview or movie I seem to really enjoy the film(granted I love NIN but that's besides the point) I love Se7en and I love Lost Highway. This looks incredible. After Troy, Alexander, generic epic here, I lost faith in this genre of film. King Auther, Kingdom of Heaven, and Gladiator(not a big fan but I can see it's strengths) were enjoyable enough where I could not hate them. Hopefully this will be amazing. The CGI actaully ads a lot of style to the film where normally I hate CGI like that(Lord of the Rings)
-
It's about time there was one. Wasn't someone trying to make it or is. As long as it is not Ridley Scott or any of the other epic guys.
-
Some geeks here need to lighten up. It was pretty funny when I wrote it. I'm sure that Kramer guy loved the shot where the Spartan kicks "that guy" down the well.
-
Thank you for schooling the historically ignorant. The story of Sparta is a timeless lesson more warriors and politicians should know. And the trailer is just visually stunning. Really.
-
but it's been stalled for quite some time.
-
i just looked it up and i guess vin IS making 'hannibal.' and by making i mean starring and directing. potentially disastrous but conceivably intriguing as well.
-
I like my CG to look really really REALLY fake as well. I don't want it to have even a hint of realism...
-
Eww, I forgot Vin was trying to make it. That would just be god awful. No thank you. And slappy jones was that sarcasm? That is not what I meant. I hate CGI. Hate it with a passion. I miss the days of miniatures and actual armies with actual people. CGI ALWAYS looks fake. The people who make CGI have no understanding of photography, graininess, and depth of field. What I meant was that on occasions there are films that provide a new prospective only achievable with CGI such as Sin City and this. They allow a sort of dream world or in this case comic book world where style is more important. I only like CGI in these cases or small stuff like a tear or things like that.
-
then I'm sorry, but at least I made myseld more clear
-
would turn it into Hannibal X and the trek across the Alps would be done with snowboards. No thanks. Hannibal would would make a great film though. He was tough guy for a fact.
-
*pulls out my race card* This wretched film, which I haven't seen, is racist against Muslims because the Persians today are mostly Muslims. Yeah, yeah, yeah so there were no Muslims at the time, but it still shows people who *eventually* became Muslims and is therefore racist towards the Muslim hordes. *puts race card away*
-
Only the Warrior Princess has the power to defeat the Persians! We need Xena with her Chakram, and her lesbian lover Gabrielle with her mighty abs! Xena shall defeat the Persians for she has many skills!
-
Hope it follows through or it'll be a big disappointment...
-
This and Grindhouse are the films infecting my dreams right now.

It seems silly to attack a movie which is obviously not pretending to be a historically accurate retelling of the battle of Thermopylae. The story is heavily stylized. The comic (sorry, but graphic novel sounds so phony) is a stylized, superhero-tinged representation of the battle of the 200 Spartans against the Persian Empire. The use of monsters, elephants, giants and the stark and stunning color palette is (I can only assume from having read the book) meant not to poke fun at or disrespect what happened. Rather, these artistic liberties are meant to do two things. 1) to emphasize the heroism of the 300 Spartans and demonstrate what a massive undertaking it was for them to stand against an Imperial army in defense of their lands when their own country men couldn't be bothered to do so. And 2...to make everything in the story look cool as shit by implementing all kinds of fantasy and comic book-like elements in the story. Really, there's already been a move about the 300 Spartans. And there have already been books. What Frank Miller did was take a group of real examples of 'super humans' and tell a story of their feats in the traditional superhero medium of comics. It's not meant to be pretentious, terribly inciteful or (of all things) historically accurate. It's meant to be big. As big as Superman punching a robot attacking Metropolis or the X-Men facing down Magneto and the Brotherhood of Mutants.
If you are looking for historical accuracy and choose not to watch the movie I understand you. That is anyone's right. But the hating is really a weird thing. I don't understand the level of anger behind it. I am new to this (1st post). But I don't think I expected this.
Finally, on the look of the film: It's obvious that the director of this film if going for the same look as Miller's comic (yes he's not made an arty movie or some looked-over masterpiece that everyone tells me I have to see but I still think even previously bad directors can make good movies...and vice versa). The slow motion, green screens and speech are meant to bring the life of the comic to the screen (writers use screaming captions in comics to emphasize emotion in the face of the limitations of the medium ...for those of you who don't know already). In this sense, this movie is very accurate in protraying the STORY that is '300' as opposed to the story OF the 300 Spartans.
Any way you slice it I think this is my favorite trailer of the year and I am looking forward to this as much as Spider-Man 3 next year. This is SPARTA!!!!!
And for the record, there were 300 Spartans sire fighters (basically soldiers that new ther were gonna die) and 5000 other Greek warriors against an army of possibly as many as 2 million Persians. The figures are not important nor can they be accurately verified in any meaningful way. The point is that the Spartans were way outnumbered and knew they were gonna die but stood and fought an impossible fight against a monstrous enemy. And in the end, as Leonidas takes down the Persian 'god' Xerxes and forces Greece to unite against the Persian invaders, the 300 Spartans become more than men. They become super heroes.

There are going to be more gay guys in line for this movie than for Brokeback Mountain and Moulin Rouge combined.
-
It reminds me a bit of an episode of Samurai Jack, “XXV, Jack and the Spartans”

*cough*Romans*cough*

Modern Persians are far from Muslim.
-
With Hulk Hogan as the lead yelling, "WE'RE GOING TO BE IN FOR ANOTHER CRAZY NIGHT FOR DINING IN HELL, FOR THIS... IS... SPARTA... BROTHER!!!"
-
they used the song "mad world" in the background.

Still hate that bit from the teaser (how Scottish does Butler sound then?!) - hopefully in context it will be a bit better. Other than that, and despite my desire to see a 'based on historical fact' version of Thermopylai - particularly one that credits the poor Thespaians who stayed to fight alongside the Spartans and were also wiped out to a man - I'm wildly excited about this. I hope it's every bit as insane as the trailer makes out. MOLON LABE!
-
That guy with the beard, who seems to be the Spartan leader.... he looks mad stupid yelling all the time. This is a movie i plan on catching on DVD or TV, most likely.
-
...except I'm waiting for that dude without a life to replace Frank Miller's SPARTANS with CGI BUNGIE's SPARTANS (Master Chiefs for the uninformed). ha
-
There may be some cool fight moments, but overall this kind of looks like shit.
-
...it looks interesting. I shall watch with glee as Butler and co clove foes heads. Hail!
-
I'm not a huge fan of hyperbole, but I think it's safe to say this is going to be the coolest fucking movie ever. You'd have to be terminally boring to find no appeal in that trailer.
-
Yes, we're going to be hopelessly outnumbered and we'll all die, so I think I'll set an example to my people by quietly conversing with the enemy and when it's time to psyche the soldiers up for the monstous battle we'll all sit around with cups of tea and I'll ask them nicely to do their best. Spiffing.
