4 More Days To OctoButt-Numb-A-Thon!!! Guidelines, Rules, Bag Day, Stand-by Line and More!
Hey folks, Harry here... I'm tired. But that's a good thing, for the next 3 days I'm going to kick back and relax. Soak in hot baths, sleep late - and basically get myself set for OCTOBUTT-NUMB-A-THON.
I won't kid anyone by saying this year came off without a hitch, but I'm getting happier and happier with the line-up -- which is having its tweaks, nips and tucks - but hey - that's part of any worthwhile programming event. I've never worked harder on a BNAT. Especially in the final 9 days. You've no idea.
Anyways - it's basically done on my part. After I type this up, I've a bit of seat chart work to do and my work is basically done, short of actually hosting the madness.
OK - So what's up?
First off - What Not To Bring To BNAT!
Security is one of the highest priorities at Butt-Numb-A-Thon. Right from the get go - I have a strict - NO ELECTRONICS ADMISSION POLICY. Nothing that lights up or goes beep. If you're worried about your child - and want someone to be able to get ahold of you if your kid drinks Drano? The Number for the Alamo Downtown is (512) 476-1320. If there's an emergency and a call - a waiter will know what seat you're in and will deliver you the message - written down - in the theater. All without a vibration, a ring tone or a bright light appearing in the theater. This means - no Palms, No PSPs, No Portable DVD players. And especially no cameras, camera phones, camera watches or camera whatever. --- There is a photographer this year that will take photos of Introductions and Q&As - and possibly the Lobby between films - and we may have a site up with those pics for all to download. Especially if you're real cool about this policy.
Don't OVER PREPARE AND PACK for BNAT. You won't have much room - and the more stuff you bring - the longer it'll take to process the line - and it could result in a movie being cut. A bag you can put under your chair - think... carry on. BUT DON'T BE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE that tries to get a checked big bulky bag into the general Cabin area. We're all in this together. We all want to get into the theater, out of the cold and get the party started with the least amount of hassles.
If you happen to be bringing a present for me (Harry) - then place it on the stage at the base of the screen. That'll work best.
I always like to bring a change of clothes, toothbrush, couple pairs of socks, basic things like that. Some want to bring a blanket and pillows - but that just inspires sleep - which basically means humiliation.

BAG DAY
************************
Beginning at 12 (Noon) at the Alamo Drafthouse South at 1120 South Lamar on Friday, December 8th - is BAG STUFFING. This is where you get the joyful opportunity to first meet your fellow BNATTERS and enjoy the Geek Elf Activities of preparing the bags for BNAT. All the goodies.
5 hours later - we'll be Screening PAN'S LABYRINTH at the same location - and we'll announce the Pre-BNAT Party Location at that screening!!! It'll be within walking distance or short commute.

STAND BY LINE
************************
The Line Forms at 11:15am Saturday, December 9th. This will be by LOTTERY - not by who showed up first. So getting there 40 hours early or 2 hours early doesn't help you, it just means you'd lose extra sleep - which if you get in - you'll be kicking yourself for. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to get your ticket stubb that will be being drawn and chosen by YOKO this year. That will begin at 11:45am. These will be the final tickets to get in. Those in STAND BY LINE have a higher degree chance to get in than the initial ticket offers as we usually have a good many seats available. Not tons, but I'd say easily a dozen or more. And depending on the Stand By Turn Out - your odds could be 1 in 3 to 1 in 15 if things get crazy. Either Way - the base odds initially are at least 1 in 80 at least. As soon as your ticket is chosen - pay for your admission and get your ass in a seat. We got a show to get going and dilly dallying will just cause you to miss something AWESOME which kicks this BNAT off.
If there are future updates - I'll be doing them here - and the Subject Line on the Main Page will change. So watch this story for updates. It's getting very very close.
