    THE LATE SHOW RULES!!!

    by shermdawg

Conesy is great and all, and yes, hell probably CRUSH Dave in the ratings, but Dave is like your uncle, or a uncle you never had, he's part of the family. And his backups beats the shit out of O'brian's.Paul? (Just him sarcastially laughing at Dave's jokes makes my day.)Alan? (Needs a Larry Sanders sitcom, or a sitcom period, NOW!)Rupert? (Needs a Discovery Channel show in the vein of Kevin and Drew from the Amazing Race, Dirty Jobs, or even that Ratzenberger show on the Travel Channel.)The only thing that sucks about the show is Andy fucking Kindler. He's annoying, not funny. Give Chris Elliott his assignments, or a even better idea Jim Gaffigan. (HOTPOCKETS!!!)

    by tallboy66

Man, oh, man, I was only a young-un when the first late night war happened, what the hell's going to happen this time? And, more importantly, who will play who in THE LATE SHFT 2 HBO movie? Seriously, though, Leno still kicking around and ABC wants him? Yeesh. YOU'RE GETTING BOOTED OFF NBC FOR A REASON, BUDDY! Just go back to the comedy clubs and make a shitload for appearances. Strangely, I saw him on a classic car show recently, and he actually seemed pretty well suited for something like that. Maybe a higher-end cable channel where he shows off every one of his billion cars and motorbikes for a half hour. Heck, it'd be a more gracefull exit than still mucking it up on ABC? Speaking of ABC, why haven't I heard about this?!! Why wasn't AICN updating me hourly with the outlook? I need to know! Oh, and Tom Green for "LATE NIGHT" on NBC in 2009. There. Phew. Did I cover it all? I need my pills now, us late night TV show fans are a freaky bunch.

    by the selecter

he'll probably be still doing the cab driver/turban, squirrel/nuts and rat jokes in 2010. Sadly, the only times he's interesting to watch now are when an antagonistic or controverisal guest is on. He may have settled into a routine that suits him and appeals to an audience more like his mentor's, but it's dull.

You know what the real definition of skein is? "A length of yarn or thread wound on a reel or swift preparatory for use in manufacturing." WTF? Proof positive that coke turns your brain into quick-drying cement...

He's too integral to that show, and he's got a good thing going producing Colbert. Who's going to get Late Night though? That's the quetion. I'd like to see Dave Chappelle, Bob Saget, Paul Mooney, Zach Galifianakis, Demetri Martin or Louis C.K.

Spend a day at home and watch all of the chat type shows: Regis, Ellen, The View, Letterman, Leno, all of them. Guaranteed you will see the same celebrity tell the same amusing anecdote at least twice in the same day. There are so many of these lame ass show and the all feature the same thing, bin all of them!

    by mr incredible

Dave was funny twenty or so years ago; now he's not. He's a grumpy old man with too much time and money. I liked it when he didn't give a shit. Kimmel is boring, Leno is a retread, Conan is funny when he needs to be, but this Tonight Show deal will water him down and he'll be just another talk show host.

    Leno comes across as being

    by veritasses

too fake. I'm sure he's a nice guy and all but that fake grin, the fake laugh and that fake back-slap-lean-in "hey let's have a fake conversation while we cut to commercial" schtick is pretty annoying. And stuttering John is worse then Jay when it comes to being fake. He was much better when he was on Stern. Kevin's the only cool guy on that show. Leno probably has the best writing staff by a slim margin though. Dave has a very likable aura but seems to give the least effort and has the most jokes that just fall flat. Conan's ok, some good bits that caters well to the college crowd but might not fit well with the over 40 generation. He has a tendency to interrupt his guests too much too. Kimmel's not great but he's actually not that bad either. John Stewart's better off on Comedy Central where he has freedom to be himself. If ABC's looking for real Late Night talk show talent, they should give Magic Johnson's agent a call. Or maybe Chevy, Sajak or Rosie O'Donnell. And Star Jones is looking for work too.

    by therealratigan

...When did that happen? I do agree with DarkHawke that he has too much self-respect, though. Enough to make up for all the real respect he doesn't have. I think he's satisfied with being his own biggest fan. But I guess somebody up there likes him, since they gave him his own show. Down here, not so much. Comedy is born of insecurity, right? I guess that's why Kimmel can't be funny.

The Late Show - in Australia

    by amy chasing

anyone remember this one? A comedy group called the D-Generation (who went on to do The Panel) had The Late Show on the ABC. Their theme music was James Brown's "Turn Me Loose, I'm Dr Feelgood" - probably the greatest tune used for a theme song I can think of. I remember doing an arrangement of it back in high school, and my teacher was worried that it was the theme music from David Letterman's Late Show. Don't know what his problem was, the CBS orchestra rock!

    by the funketeer

that Letterman, O'Brien, and Colbert will all be going up against each other. Not good at all. I like all three but I don't think O'Brien is going to succeed in the Leno slot. I really can't imagine him in LA and I don't see how he can dumb down his act for the 10:30 crowd. Letterman still manages to maintain some of his bite but he doesn't seem to worry as much about ratings as NBC does.

ReStart: Kings of Late Night - Intelligentally Retarded

    by bluemeep

Jimmy Kimmel I used to watch back in 2003. I think it has lost some of it's edge since then. The Quentin Tarantino directed episode was much the entertainment for me, made me happy happy. Around 2004-2005 season Kimmel show changed, felt kinda sucky, haven't watched it lately, go figure some - yes. Kimmel will only last as long as it takes for them to find replacement. ABC is making $$$ off having beet companys sponsor the bands that play on the show - I would think, why you not think...Think. Jimmy can be muches funny when he is given the right setting (I.E. - Man Show, Win Ben Stein's Money). The ABC channel is trying to make muches people like him, people that would not like him in other shows, so why they make him something he is nots? He belong on Comedy Central with Johnny Stewart and the guy that used to voice guy on Harvey Birdman Show that goes 'Ha-Ha' and the green little one that goes 'Ill shrink you'...Haha tis funny for I. Some people just belong on Cable Tv and not on the free kind of Tv that comes over the air for free if your to cheap/poor to pay the cash from the pocket for. Conan was picked for Tonight Show because he appeals to the 'adult swim/young male' crowd. This way they bring in more of the money to put in the pocket to from the people that have the money to buy such products that they sell during the show that make for happy happy economy and bulls and bears and ducks. Dave Letterman is funny for a man that talks comedy for late in the day. I have not watch him much in some time, only when the Kramer one was on to say he sorry for no likey the afro race of people people. Kramer is not shy, he speak mind zealous like and he remind me of a person that would talk like a person that talked a lot. I lovey all people no matter there penis size to mine, I King Kong - I, Robot...Will Smith? Big Willie in Jersey Girl was Best part for what it was, was it good for him only know by a'la Mode Kevin Smith. Carson Daily used to be funny with the jailbait on TRL then he is now on show with non-jaibait but he still make me happy to see he work, work for NBC is must be harder then at radio Station in 1996, only know by a'la Mode Earl/Crab Man? I Will Vote for the one that makes me Laugh hard and releases more Endorfens in my brain then other things. This make for super slap happy cannibal time :D

    hey leno deserves some respect...

    by flux_brown

that guy hasn't missed a show in 14 years, he works more than letterman does (when you're talking about work ethic, he's the man), and the ratings have been strong. The late night wars successfully left him looking like a villain whereas letterman the victim. If you read "the late shift" you would know that letterman, despite being the genius he is, is impossible to work with, and lately, to be honest...has been completely unwatchable. I'm intrigued to see how o'brien will segue into the 10.30 slot, and although i love ferguson. i don't see him as heir apparent, americans aren't ready to embrace a scotsman as their late nite king...and by the way, leno doesn't strike me as the vengeful -i-was-fired-i'll-make-another-show-type. don't get me wrong, i'm not a leno fan...i just respect the guy.

Letterman & Ferguson stay at CBS...Conan does Tonight Show...Jon Stewart brings 30 minute Daily Show to ABC...Kimmel after Stewart at current time...Kevin Smith host Late Night...and over at Comedy Central do a nightly hour guest show with Brian Posehn & Patton Oswalt, aired after Colbert Report. That would smoke my Tivo...if I had a Tivo.

    Stewart Won't Leave Comedy Central

    by cvb784

I don't think Stewart will let the show go to ABC or CBS. There may be more money in it for him, but ABC demonstrated (through the cancellation of Politically Incorrect) that you need to watch what you say when you're on network TV. Whether you agree with what Maher said is inconsequential, but it is undeniable that Stewart's wit would be dulled by the FCC and network heads.

The FCC is a real problem here. I have to agree that Stewart must stay away from the broadcast networks. Even Fox would restrict him unacceptably. I wonder what Dave, Jay, Conan, et al, would have been like on cable. We already know what Kimmel is like, and we liked it. More babes on trampolines!

Leno on ABC? First I've Heard of It...

    by mortguffman

What's your source on this? I haven't heard anything about this. As much as I like Dave, I'm a little disappointed that he doesn't go out on remotes anymore. Him manning the drive-through at McDonald's ("Can you run out and get us a sack of potatoes? We ran out here") and sitting in the van and telling Rupert what to say and do ("Okay, now jam your thumb into the glass of water...just get it down there") are classic. Dave sitting in the studio is just kinda dull. Still, he's more original on Leno's best day.
