BOND 19 and the Big Breakfast this morning...

Published at:  Feb 18, 1999 12:07:32 PM CST

Twould be cool if somebody had some screen grabs from this show... Anyone? Helloooooooo? A zillion Bond fans are awaiting them..

British TV show "The Big Breakfast" showed some behind-the-scene footage
from
Bond 19. It seems that "The World Is Not Enough" will definitely be the
film's
title because it was properly marked on a clapperboard, and not chalked or
anything.

Nothing too exciting about the footage. A scene being filmed showed Pierce
Brosnan running down a corridor (most likely of the MI5 building), before a
"lamp" shone in his face and he shielded his eyes.

The lamp's light was obviously simulating the illumination of a bomb blast,
since another scene shows what looks to be a file-room suddenly explode. I'm
guessing this is the location of the bomb that destroys the MI5 building in
the opening sequence.

Another scene had Miss Moneypenny and Bond present in M's office. On a wall
behind them there was two large screens showing the face and profile of
Robert
Carlyle's Renard character.

Later in the show, Johnny Vaughn (the Big Breakfast's presenter) revealed
that
he's read the final script of Bond 19 and says it's very, very good. He
especially liked the fact that "Bond comes home" in this film; obviously
meaning lots of location shooting around London and NOT far-flung tropical
islands, etc.

Tommorrow Never Dies was the biggest disappointment of my life (right up there with CONTACT). If TWINE (whoa it spells "twine") doesnt have a cool bond or a good script, i am revoking my Bond FanClub membership. To all those who say, "TND was just fun action and Bond's not supposed to be taken seriously, look at FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE or GOLDFINGER and compare it to TND. Can't you notice how much stupider Bond has gotten. Bond doesn't use a machine gun!! He uses a PPK!! He's about being sly, you know, one shot one kill and all that. Not a million shots and you gotta hit something! Let's just hope that since Bond is back in London, and not in Hong Kong like in TND, he'll get his personality back and drop the Jackie Chan kungfu scenes. Geez, they shouldve just gotten Bruce Willis to play 007 for TND, because a Bruce Willis/Jerry Bruckhiemr flick is all that it resembled. Oh, someone please reserect Fleming and Brocoli!

What is really important to you all?

    by l'auteur

When you say that all the explosions and bullets helped you forget how bad the movie was, I have two responses. 1) i agree, that almost worked when i saw it, but 2) the second the movie is over, you realize how shitty it was and you never want to see it again. So I ask you all, do you want movies that you watch one after the other, clones of each other's stupidity, or do you want movies like GOLDFINGER, that you can watch a thousand times and never get sick of?

THE BOND FILMS ARE GETTING TIRED AS HELL

    by macejedi

Why is this thing even being made? I sorta liked Goldeneye, but Tomorrow wasn't really that good. Is it like some kinda tradition like Thanksgiving or something, where Bond just HAS to be made over and over.? Please give it a rest.

    by prbis

The Bond series is the best ever thats why it has now reached 19! It appeals to both men and women and the premmise is sound thats why it has lasted to number 19.True ,TND was horrible, but then it wasnt the first time they missed, but they came back after Dalton with Goldeneye didnt they. There are many more like me who cant wait for the film to be out than you naysayers.Away with you naysayers!

    by renard

Many people on this 'board' believe Bond is getting awful. I disagree. He's changing with the times. It's not the 60's anymore so get over it. As Bond said in TND, "Give the people what they want." People Want ACTION.
If you don't like Bond anymore don't watch the movies. No one's forcing you to.

    by gamera

No one is going to make you see this movie! Even though you have not seen likidy shit from this film some of you seem totally sure that it will suck. If you are so sure, DON'T GO SEE IT! Instantly the movie is not nearly as annoying, right?

I have high hopes for TWINE

    by punisher

I think the producers are ready to give us one helluva Bond with this one. I know the general reaction to TND was a bad one, but despite its flaws it still had an interesting story and interesting villain.IMO it definitely wasn't the worst (ie most of the later Roger Moore Bond films). This one looks to be awesome. Let's save the negative comments until after the movie is released (or at least until Harry or his spies sees a screening)

    Bond - Tired as Hell?

    by hcearwicker

Some say it's tired; I think this horse has legs still. That doesn't mean it should "change with the times." The Bond series didn't have to change with the times; it preceded the times. Jetskis before they were cool, jetpacks before they were cool.

The last to were workmanlike in their execution (in both good and bad connotations) because the producers felt the need to stick to tried and true methods of making mone-- I mean film. They needed the "Bond formula" in the first one to bring people back (and bring MGM a profit) and then they needed all-out action in the second (again, to help an ailing MGM).

Now, hopefully with Bond back on firm footing (2 incredibly profitable films under the belt after the hiaitus), EON (the producing organization) can get back to stylish experimentation within the formula.

The film shows every sign of doing just this - 1) classy cast: Marceau, Cleese (BAFTA Best Actor, Emmy, Oscar nominated writer), Dench (BAFTA 3 time winner, 2x Oscar nominated), and Robert Carlyle (BAFTA winner); 2) A solid script that plays with the formula and 3) a really good director known for both good studio work and independent work. There's no reason for this to suck... and every reason for high expectations.

Bond tired? Hardly. To quote someone near and dear to my heart, he has "all the time in the world."

    Bond Bashers

    by shyster

I agree with Renard - leave Bond alone! If you don't like the series, don't watch. I, for one, have not grown tired of good ole reliable Bond, and Brosnan will do for now. There will never be another Connery, so get over it!

    Trival Location Tidbits

    by radly

I was testing some software in Lisbon over the last few weeks, when one afternoon I saw a movie being shot. The cabbie said, in broken English, "James Bond, rat-tat-tat-tat", while making submachine gun motions with his hands, (yes, at the same time we were driving at 90 kph). This was in the Praca do Commercio down near the river in the Baixa neighborhood. I didn't see any faces, just lots of extras milling around, and garden variety APCs.
I told you it was trivial.

New Bond and old Austin Powers

    by vinnieb

Yes, the Bond movies are changing with the times. But interestingly enough, Austin Powers was a killer popular film, and I don't think just because it was a comedy. I think there's a lot of people (myself included) that miss the over the top style spy flicks. Both "Flint" movies are on cable this month, and I still love 'em. Hell, I'd love to see a Flint remake-it has a campy side, but put the right guy in the role (I wanna say Ben Affleck, but I dunno) and you could create a new franchise. I should specifiy there's NO plans to do one that I know of, I'm just blue skying...

    - I also agree with Renard and you. If you don't like what you see then don't watch it. I like Brosnan and the Bond series is still my favorite movie series. I disagree with one thing though, I don't think there will ever be another Connery. In my opinion, Brosnan has come closer than Daulton and Moore, but there will probably be someone down the line that comes even closer. But for right now, Brosnan's the man and I for one hope he stays longer then his originally desired 4 movies. For your info I liked TND, but thought Goldeneye was much better and hope TWINE can surpass Goldeneye as a film. Maybe if TWINE does as good, or better, then the previous 2 movies, it might convince Brosnan to stay on as long as he can.

    Bond comes home

    by robvanfish

OK, I've gotta couple of points to make, but mainly - the last two bond films were SHIT, I'm sorry, but they were. J.B. does not go about with a machine gun, spraying bullets - he's subtle, swuave (however you spell it!) and sophisticated - he pulls the women, and has cool gadgets, but leave that action hero shit to Bruce and co, who do a better job of it. Bring back cheesy baddies with increadable bases full of mindless minions (who no-one ever knows where they came from) helping someone to bring on the end of the world.
Anyway... enough ranting - I read a really cool article in the Sunday Times (UK) yesterday, did no-one else? In it they said how the writers had consulted with Broccolis daughter and stepson and they all decided that it would be cool to try and re-invent bond a bit, more towards his former one-shot-cool-as-hell-Walter-PPK-days. So I think it is this that Johnny was referring to, and not the locations. (The Sunday Times also said that the producers were looking at locations bond had not visited in ages - they couldn't look for new ones as he's been EVERYWHERE!)So expect to see him somewhere a bit more exotic than London - apart from the opening scene. Aparrently the plot concerns the worlds oil supply, and presumably the threat thereof.
All I can say to the re-invented bond idea is Woooo-Fucking-hooo. About time - Brosnan is wicked as James Bond, now lets give him a descent film to play the part in. If you know this sort of sad Shit - the 3rd outing for the actors usually proves prett damn good anyway: Connery - Goldfinger; Roger Moore - The Spy Who Loved Me;Lazenby - Never got there (thank God). Anyway that's enough rabbiting from me.
