Your friendly neighborhood SPIDER-MAN has you doing a double-take with his new posters!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here... They sure are playing up the whole duality aspect of this film, aren't they? I would venture the assumption that the below two posters are perhaps part of a gimmick poster, like that great lenticular poster of Spidey's chest that turns from the red and blue we love to the black and silver of the Black Suit. I could see the below two being in the same style, which would be pretty damn cool. Hell, it'd be cool if they were just regular posters up at different theaters. Sorry, it's early and I'm rambling... Enjoy the posters!!!

    by MMacKK

Never shall I yell First again. Nah, I'm liking the duality, but there can be overkill. I wonder what's up with that green tinge to the second one also.

Why the brown tinge on #2? Anyway, they look pretty good.

    by filmcoyote

but I want to see a purely Venom one. If only Venom could beat Spidey in this, shame they'll never let that happen.

Looks like R. Kelly pissed all over that second poster

    by xXMr_BoJaNgLeSXx

Make it the same color scheme as the first and it'll be sweet. The tint in the second one is so dim as well...

    Action is his reward!

    by Franklin T Marmoset

I like these new Spider-Man posters very much. I'm not one to go all silly and get over-excited for a film, but I really can't wait to see this one. Also, since it turns out there is no Britney sex tape, what else am I going to look forward to?

    The Superhero Cycle

    by CaptDanielRoe

Of films is set in stone now and I don't like that. There is the origin story. There is the stressed-out love entanglement with the renunciation for a time of the hero role but ultimately taking it up again, sacrificing personal libido. There is the battle with the inner demon. There is the descent into farce. Marvel is one movie away from the farce movie with both Spidey and Blade. Maybe declaring trilogies at the outset without even having scripts for the last two really does make some sense.

    by Franklin T Marmoset

As much as I enjoy the Spider-Man films, it's odd how much they've taken from the Superman series. Now that Spidey is going evil for part 3, all we need now is confirmation that Chris Rock has been cast as a computer genius (his very hilarious drunk scene should be in the next trailer, I think).

    Spiderman 2

    by Flex_Gorgeous

Spiderman 2 came out around the same time as 'Halloweentown High'. The IMDB describes it as "Another hit in the Halloweentown trilogy!". It was a triumph in the marrying of storytelling and visual effects. http://us.imdb.co m/title/tt0414078/

    weird

    by The Only Woj

how they did the reflection, because the lighting hits on the right side of spidey's head in both and in the reflection you'd expect to see the palm of his hand and not the outside. not sure why they did this. it's like two sitting back to back than one being in the reflection of a building window.

    Spider-Man Resprayed

    by badboymason

Cool poster but just spraying his suit black is still gay. At least change it up a bit, even if you dont go for the full on white spider wraparound like in the less gay comic version.

    .. whu... ?

    by Freefinger

now, why are we all going apeshit over a poster? Really, I just don't understand. It doesn't really reveal anything else other than the second one being, as one described it, a R. Kelly piss color scheme?... When are they going to give us the good looking trailer back with Venom inside! Where's the good stuff?... Can't wait for the movie but I think they're overkilling it with fu**ing posters.. Look a papermache figurine of Spiderman in the black suit... I mean c'mon guys... Let's see a real poster, One that actually shows Spidey in action against Sandman, Venom and Harry (not the Potter kid, the Osborne one... Good god, no... not the Osborne has in the tv reality show with Ozzy, the Norman Osborne one...)... will wait for the movie before coming back to see another posts with the word "poster" in it...

  • Nov. 22, 2006, 12:26 p.m. CST

    oooh, green tint!

    by werideatdusk

Hey, why didn't they make a poster for each of the sixteen villains in this movie?

  • Nov. 22, 2006, 12:28 p.m. CST

    WOW!

    by tracheattack

I sure hope seeing the dark two-sided inner battles of well known heroes gets interesting again. Maybe when they do it for Indiana Jones. Or Superman. Or Wolverine. Or Harry Potter. Or Bridget Jones. New theme please.

  • Nov. 22, 2006, 12:58 p.m. CST

    The 2nd Poster's photoshopped...

    by RetroActive

That's why it's so dark. The first one's authentic, so I don't understand what's up with the second silly one. What would be the point of just reversing the Spideys?

    Venom not in this film

    by trombone

My guess is that Sony removed the Venom from the trailer so that we don't have unrealistic expectations. I would guess that this movie will get into the duality theme: Red/Black Spidey Tobey/Topher (who was originally considered for the lead role) Mary Jane/Gwenn. Venom will be born at the end and I think Spider-Man 4 will be the big battle with Venom. I'm guessing 3 will wrap up the whole Goblin2 thread. Maybe MJ will die, who knows. But us Venom-fans should not get our hopes up about a Venom film. I think Sony is just saving us from a big old geek-bitch-fest. And about the "dark side" having to be in every movie--I think with Spidey it came naturally out of the source material. The best bad-guys are 1. GG 2. Doc Oc 3. Venom. What else are you going to do with Venom? I think at the end of this movie we will ALL be eager to see 4.

    elbow room

    by briantag

It's not an exact reflection. The elbow overlaps in both posters, so you get a hint that it's a battle between good Peter Brady and evil twin Peter Brady. Which will win? Which will dominate? Which will elbow the other out of the way, and inherit all the ancillary royalties?

  • Nov. 22, 2006, 2:54 p.m. CST

    elbow room 2

What is everyone talking about? Isn't it the same poste

    by half vader

r? The second image is the alternate angle of the same lenticular poster, right? Maybe that accounts for the weirdo colour. Isn't that exactly what Quint was getting at or did absolutely no-one read the actual post?

Did any of you ask yourselves WHY it wouldn't be a simple reflection, and more like two linked but separate entities? I could very well be talking out my arse here (in which case I'm in good company) but God forbid any of you should recognise a metaphor when you see it. Talk about lowest common denominator!

    by 3 Bag Enema

    Perspective

    by auraboy

I was looking to see if the general angle of light distortion on reflective glass surface could account for the non-direct reflection being slightly awkward looking. But then I realised that I really don't care that much about a handdrawn spidey poster after all. Still - better than a floating heads legal 'everybody's face in shot contract' poster.

  • Nov. 22, 2006, 11:41 p.m. CST

    'forced' perspective

    by half vader

Exactly, Auraboy. Better than floating heads. And don't forget the little running guy with a gun down the bottom. Preferably in duotone. They obviously thought it was more important to engage the viewer by also having the reflection's head looking at us rather than looking somewhere off-poster (which technically would be accurate) and leading the eye back out of the frame, and as I said before God forbid there should be a storytelling aspect to a poster. Sometimes these things are done on purpose. Too bad there are a million so-called photoshop experts who unfortunately don't get subtext unless it slaps them in the face. I'm surprised there wasn't a revolt over the reflection shot in the teaser.

    Towards the end of spiderman

    by emeraldboy

just before he reveals himself to Mary Jane. There is scene where doc ock pummels peter and leaves him under a pile of rubble. Parker Snaps and we see how powerful Peter Can be when he gets very very angry indeed. The black suit allows parker to bring all his anger, rage, bitterness and frustration to the fore and therefore becoming a much more powerful adversary but parker is also reckless. IN the last movie he gave up being Spiderman only to return because lure of power was to great. Power mixed with anger is dangerous combination. Marvel announced it is putting intp production the spiderman issue where his identity is reveled.

  • Nov. 23, 2006, 4:58 p.m. CST

    Spidernerd

    by auraboy

All nerds given the opportunity of superpowers is going to have rage issues. I mean, especially for Spiderman, who has to deal with his awkwardness, money troubles and the fact that so many people hate him even when he's trying to be heroic. Watching a good guy get pissed off and lose it is always fun. Parker behind the mask is quite comical, because it lets him be who he thinks he is away from geekdom. So the idea of a darker mask letting even more subliminal urges fight out is perfect movie fodder. It could be quite a nice juxtaposition to Batman Begins. One has a hero who wants to be feared. One has a hero who wants to be accepted but, with the black suit/symbiote has the ability instill fear too. I guess the central story will be around Parker trying to overcome his own dark side. It's a pretty basic metaphor but then it is a comic book action movie not arthouse.

I guess you're one of those types that confuse being the most powerful nation in the world for being the 'greatest' and jingoism for patriotism. <p> I keed because I love, but getting back on topic I hope there's no hamfisted shit like the 911 bit in the first one that derailed the storytelling and flow of the sequence. I'm just worried because of the blatant chest-thumping shot where he lands in front of the flag. WTF. I'm suprised he didn't salute it as a tear escapes from under his lenses.

  • Nov. 23, 2006, 7:43 p.m. CST

    Uh, unclear

    by half vader

I meant the stupid "You mess with all of us" bit in the first movie, and being worried about the blatant flag bit in the latest trailer for the 3rd movie. Even the end of the first movie with the flagpole was sort of in context, but this, phew! Maybe this is so they don't have to worry about Captain America.

  • Nov. 23, 2006, 8:14 p.m. CST

    Contractual New Yorkism

    by auraboy

Actually I think there was a Hollywood edict that all movies after 9/11 had a 'New Yorkers together' moment. Although it didn't bother me so much in Spiderman because I think, oddly, it makes him more part of the city life, rather than an imaginary imposition. Cheesy - yes, hateful - no. As for the flag shots and that Chad Kroeger song from the first one - that should all be abolished.
